    Josh, heads up about Better Help. I remember a while back BH was being promoted everywhere. Then it came out that most of the therapists working for them were not licensed at all. Most UA-camrs dropped them and issued apologies very soon after. They still have a problem with unlicensed therapists, which means that they can do far more harm to mental health than good.

      I decided to try it a couple years ago when I realized I really needed to start therapy and the idea of BH sounded super appealing. It was awful. The assigned specialist took days to respond to our ongoing messages, was completely unprepared for our first session even though we had a month to do the questionnaires she was supposed to send me, and 10 minutes in she revealed that her personal views conflicted with mine about LGBTQ+ topics and she recommended I switch to a different person.
      Thankfully I got a partial refund from them when I cancelled. I definitely don't recommend it unless they've radically changed.

      Strider is one of so many creators that need to be careful because they seem way too trusting of offers. He’s after accidentally accepting sponsorship deals from scam companies and dangerous companies before.
      He took Established Titles at face value too.
      Ever since the controversy that outed Illuminaughty as an abuser, I always considered the sponsorships that someone accepts to be a good indicator of how genuine a creator is. If they’re prone to promoting scammy and dubious companies, then maybe we should consider how much the creator really cares about the well-being of their audience.

      @@AiLoveAidoru I feel like so many, it is the too trusting. I feel also a good rule of thumb is that if you see a sponsorship suddently prop up in millions of channels; that product is probably sketchy. I wonder also if it is personal experiences which more led him to pick up the product, he is someone who has openly talked about depression and wellbeing so a product like this appeals to him a lot at first value then maybe other people. I do hope he changes it but I presume he has signed some contract to have to add it to the next few videos so well.
      I think for the caring about well being, I think it is a case of strider thinking this is a good product and then not looking into it and thus results in effecting users. It is strange as he has decided to not do any research but I think it is probably a case of good intentions but with a bad product. The best case is to send him a well worded message illustrating why it is a bad sponsorship and maybe he would see it and think about it a bit. I do not think we should value how genuine a creator is just by sponsors as I feel that is a small part of the youtube experience and for example if he lied in a video it would be worse to me (though I did do that in the last paragraph tbh). Establish titles is another case of this, but tbh that seemed sketchy from the off. Raybands as well and a few other products. Rule is to me just do not trust if you see all your favourite creators have the same product at once.
      To conclude, I say just do your research, do not trust sponsorships at all. Even for a good product, or good looking one; question why they sponsored this channel and if the product is a good one. Also, comments like this would work if you send them in a respectful mannor in which they allow for him to see and know what points you want him to understand.

    What concerns me in particular is foods that require temperate or arctic conditions, such as the strawberries mentioned in the video, but also other berries like lingonberries, cloudberries, bilberries and cranberries. There may not be much further from the equator to go that still has the optimal temperatures for these berries, and what makes matters worse is that climate change happens more rapidly the further from the equator you go. One meat based food that also fits into this category is caribou or reindeer. The reindeer's diet often consists of various types of lichen, which too are perfectly adapted for the arctic and risk being wiped out in a warmer world.
    There are dozens of peoples in the northern parts of Eurasia who traditionally make a living through reindeer husbandry, such as the Yakut, Nenets, Evenki, Enets, Sámi, Nganasan and many others, and should we lose the reindeer, these peoples will lose an important piece of their cultures. Unfortunately there is also a more insidious reason threatening reindeer, and that is how some governments, such as Sweden and Norway, have a history of creating projects that sound nice and eco-friendly in theory, such as the Fosen windpower park in Norway, but in practice make reindeer herding by Sámi people in the area (who often have used this land for centuries) impossible. In terms of the environmental threat, reindeer herders can supplement lost lichen by providing feed directly to the reindeer in addition to the food they're still able to find on their own, and Sámi people are doing their best to raise awareness of governmental actions detrimental to reindeer herding through protest and sometimes taking legal action for land rights

    GMO also refers to crops that have changed due to selective breeding and artificial selection. The banana is actually a great example, since they were originally small with huge seeds inside. Farmers then had plants that produced larger fruit or smaller seeds cross-pollinate with each other which would then be bred with the members of that generation's large fruit and small seed producers until we got the banana we know today. You can even see this with centuries old paintings that feature watermelon. Back then, they were mostly white and not very sweet. Crossbreed the sweetest, pinkest ones of each plant generation, and you get the modern-day watermelon.

    • @maxpowers9129
      @maxpowers9129 8 місяців тому +2

      GMOs do not include selective breeding or artificial selection. That is, propaganda companies started to combat concerns about GMO products. Selective breeding does not modify the genetics of an existing organism. Therefore, they can not be Genetically Modified Organisms.

    Interesting fact: There are many varieties of bees, but the most frequently shown are honey bees, the bees I am mentioning are solitary bees, unfortunately due to human interference they have problems, but you can help them, e.g. by building hives (Not the same as honey bees) or giving special bricks with holes in which they can live
    An interesting thing is that many solitary bees have specific colors (There are bees that have no stripes and are completely black) + They are often hostile to other bees, but contrary to appearances, aggression is quite rare, and the solitary bees themselves are much calmer than the honey bees themselves, unfortunately, are less known than honey bees (Like bumblebees, i.e. one of the sweetest insects that pollinate flowers like bees, unfortunately, I have the impression that these little fluffy insects are terribly underestimated, mainly in the media, and if bees became extinct, they would be one of the more pollinating insects, because like bees, they carry pollen, but as I mentioned, these are terribly underrated insects and that makes me sad)
    Although when it comes to honey, bumblebees would rather not produce it (Because they are not bees and do not produce honey), but solitary bees can, so we should take care of them in the same way as honey bees.

    • @gryficowa
      @gryficowa Рік тому +4

      And interesting fact, many solitary bees can look much different than honey bees (As I mentioned, black bees without stripes also exist, and they are round like bumblebees, which is quite a funny fact), I have the impression that many films about bees often forget about this variety of bees and it's really sad,
      because if we cannot protect honey bees from extinction, we should at least take care of solitary bees, because without them it may not be very interesting if honey bees become extinct (The only hero will be the bumblebee, a creature that has been hidden in the shadow by honey bees for years and really deserves more attention, but I don't know will it pollinate every flower that exists, because the bumblebee itself can be slightly picky about some nectars)
      I know I've written on this topic way too much, I just wish more people knew about these hidden heroes

      Solitary bees don't produce honey. All bee species that produce honey are social, and many of them are stingless bees (tribe Meliponini).
      The reason why solitary bees are important is that they pollinate many native plants around the world. Honey bees are better at pollinating crops.
      Honey bees aren't the endangered ones, many solitary bees are. Honey bees even spread diseases to solitary bees. This is why focusing too much on saving honey bees is detrimental.

    Hi Josh! This was a great video, and I especially enjoyed the time traveling aspect! I love it when you and Boo go on adventures. I don't want any of these foods to vanish, but ESPECIALLY not chocolate, peanuts, and potatos. But wine? I could care less about wine. Give me raisins [especially chocolate covered], jelly, and jam any day. Speaking of Raisins, did you know the 1980s California Raisins mascots had a football game named after them? It was called "The California Raisins Bowl". They also appeared in some old Macy's Thanksgiving Parades, with their last appearance in it being 1992. Speaking of the California Raisins, I highly recommend watching the Claydream documentary. It's about the story of Will Vinton and how he lost his studio. Be warned, it's a very sad story, and you'll never be able to look at Laika the same way again.

A creator takes a sponsorship with more than a few skeletons in their closet, then they’re risking setting their trusting audience up to be scammed or have their personal data stolen and/or sold.

    It's interesting how all of the foods on this list being destroyed are due to very similar situations (climate change, bad farming practices, and environmental destruction) and, from my research, the central underlying problem beneath all of that is all due to economics and appeasing markets. The thing is, it will take more than science to solve these problems; not only do you need science, but you also need a complete change in how production is handled... away from appeasing markets and more of a focus on supporting the people, which will require that these crops be saved for the benefit of the people (and, of course, the PLANET to be saved). This is because, even if you apply these scientific solutions to save these crops, the current and destructive mode of production will only keep these crops on the same path to extinction, just MAYBE delayed if you're lucky.
    Because the only thing markets (i.e. supply and demand) and corporations care about is increasing profit share, nothing else, and production will reflect that. What I mean by that is because we actually produce WAY WAY MORE than what people need and want, because corporations need to remain competitive and keep supplies under control and stuff like that, which is actually the central factor in why our forests and other ecosystems are being torn apart for giant plantations (that apply bad farming practices, leading to diseases and funguses spreading, like with the banana). However, even with this gigantic overproduction, the people don't get most of what gets produced; a lot of that food gets wasted (via destroyed or just junked) for the sake of appeasing the market, in order to prevent the prices of those foods from going down and becoming unprofitable for the companies who sell these foods (it's actually a big scandal with the food industry). This junking of food is also bad for the environment and we even see this junking of overproduced products in other industries, which contributes to the destruction of our environment.
    Yes, all of this is an absolute illogical mess that is just harming us and the planet more than helping us... and yes, this is a huge summary of the situation, it's a lot more complicated than that... but this is why we need to change the mode of production, to eliminate this destruction, better serve the people, and protect the planet and our life forms... food is one of the things that is in DIRE NEED of being fixed
