I got the 2005 furby and at first, I wasn't scared of her. I played with her often. Then one day her batteries died and I threw her on the ground after she made that buzzing sound. Then to make matters worse, the shelf where I kept my furby would always cast a shadow on her that made that toy scary. I eventually gave her up because I was too scared of the toy but now, I kinda regret it. I might get myself a smaller furby if I see one. I'm also trying to find a poo-chi as mine broke. It may look scarier than a furby but, I never was scared of it.
Fun Fact: Furbies actually contained capacitors, which stored some energy from the batteries to save for later, meaning you could take the batteries out of your Furby and it would KEEP TALKING. No wonder people are terrified of those things!
I had over 1000 Sillybandz when they came out. I remember how fun it was to trade them with my friends to get rarer ones. Eventually everyone got bored of them and now they're sitting in a big bag in my closet. Same with all my Webkinz...

I don't own a Chia Pet, but I feel compelled to defend it, just a little. It's basically a decorative house plant with a twist. A lot of people like house plants. Not my thing, but people like them. Almost tempted to get the Sonic one, but I'm afraid I wouldn't find a safe place for the grass to grow.
Oh look the singing fish we got my uncle who annoyed every student in his college film class. My friend had a Furby that his dad bought his half-brother and also to his stepmother. There was a wonderful story, lol 😅
I used to have a friend who was scared of Furbies and the school I went to at the time had some kind of Furby board game that you could play at recess and he hated it lol
When I was a kid, my family had a chia pet Homer Simpson. I have to admit, I was invested in the novelty of letting Homer finally have hair. However, when the grass wilted, it got really gross and we got rid of it. 😅
Oh snap. I once had a Big Mouth Billy Bass. It always made me laugh. It was strange but just way too funny. They just have such a charm honestly. And by the way, I remember when Furbies were popular. I never owned one though. I stopped hearing about them in 2016. I saw so many of them rooting on store shelves
I just have to say you're genuinely my favorite UA-camr. I love the diverse topics, top 10 lists, animation, editing... Just superb all the way around.
17:06 "Fifty Shades of Gravy" 🤣🤣 21:36 Kooshies are one of the best stim toys. 26:00 Interjection: It works by applying pressure. It would work better by applying cold compressing pressure. ... I love Furbies. They don't creep me out.
On boy, Chia Pets. They just aren't the same anymore and usually get made fun of nowadays. I had the opportunity to get the Bob Ross one for free but still didn't want it.
My daughter was given a chia Obama as a gag Xmas gift years ago. It's sitting in her closet gathering dust as she thinks it will make a good buck in thirty years. 😂
I remember the first time I ever saw a singing fish on a board. It was in a Mexican restaurant called Pepe's. I'm not sure if anybody's familiar with the restaurants. It's a small chain restaurant. I don't know if it's national, definitely not international. I was a little kid the first time I saw it. My mother took me straight up and pressed the button so it starts singing to see how I would react & immediately freaked out.😂 At the time I did not like it and for some reason it actively scared me and freaked me out & I started crying. Edit: In case anybody's curious, I don't remember the song it played. It wasn't the songs mentioned in the video though. A completely different song.
The sensory thing you said about Koosh is kind of what I have with the Slinky; moving it up and down is like a fidget toy for me. I like the sound and the air that comes off it, when I'm stressed I'll use one to zone out. The toy called Whee-lo does the same thing to me but made me get into physics.
What a great idea for a video! I have a special interest into the world of products. I used to listen to WatchMojo videos to see these products. I started scouring the internet for more products with interesting stories on other websites. I found this channel through spongebob and enjoyed your lists. What makes this channel such a great channel is its heart, charm, and sencerity. Unlike most top 10 channels, PhantomStrider dosen't just give a short summary of the more famous ones, he goes into it deeper worth his own commentary. Every time I see a PhantomStrider video, I know it's gonna be a great day! Thanks for the quality content Strider!
I honestly love that you collected little pieces of plastic religiously XD I feel like everyone has something from their childhood that they collected and I'm still going strong as an adult 🙆🏻♀️ About the Chia pet, I've never seen one before 🤔 I am tempted to get one now though (or make one myself) because it's just so fascinating to see it grow (I adore plants)
I have one of the spinoff Furby's known as a Shellby & if there is one thing I've learned is to make sure their batteries are removed if you don't want them activating on you! You can see Roger Shiftman holding one at 6:02!
As weird as it sounds, the "Gak" actually do predated the popularity of the "slime" videos that you often see on UA-cam nowadays. I guess Nickelodeon is way ahead of its time with that strange toy.
The thing I hated about Gak was that it would inevitably get grime, dirt, and debris permanently stuck to it. It'd look more and more like an odd colored booger that fell in the dirt.
There's actually an episode of Big City Greens about the big mouth billy bass called "Barry Cuda", where Cricket won't stop pressing the button constantly to make the fish sing, and everyone else gets annoyed by it and tries to destroy it.
My grandpa was given a singing billy bass for his lake house when I was a kid. My cousin’s and I adored singing and dancing along with the fish when we went to visit when we were little kids. Grandpa still has that fish because of fond the memories, though at this point billy has long since retired singing.
I don’t know if you know about this Strider, but, like Chuck E. Cheese animatronics with Five Nights at Freddy’s, Furbies also had a horror game based around them called Tattletail. You know society was scared by something meant for kids when they make a whole video game based on how scary they are. 😂
@Cubeytheawesome I dunno if it'd be a good idea, but I always had this stupid fear when I was a kid. Being a real life person and being transformed into a cartoon character. How did this fear appear? The movie Rock-A-Doodle, where the main character gets turned into a cartoon kitten by the movie's villain. It also stems to other situations, such as Tiana's transformation in Princess and the Frog, a FNAF novel where a teenage girl is slowly turned into sentient, unfeeling, immobile trash, and if a transformation is permanent, it really makes me super creeped out
@@phantomstrider I was mostly joking... You didn't have to change the fish to Colonel Sanders 😂 Also why did you change "most moronic" to "stupidest"? Did "moronic" offend someone else?
@@kjw21411 I didn't change moronic because it offended anyone 🙂 A personal decision because it better matches the category of previous videos such as stupidest fast food or stupidest items ever made.
To play Devils advocate the Indiana Jones chia pet was clever. Made indy look like he was in the forest and not make just his head the pet. A common sense idea that someone actually did and it worked
Your POG obsession is pretty awesome. Everyone collects stuff that we look as kinda silly, but remember that’s what made us who we are now and what we like. Finally learned the history on these things, so thank you.😊 Pray for the POGS.
furbies were not stupid. and just because people claim they turned on in the middle of the night by themselves, doesn't mean it's true. I have one in my room and it has never turned on by itself at night before.
I remember a McDonalds commercial with one of those bass that kept saying, "GIMME BACK THAT FILET O FISH, GIMME THAT FISH!" Heard it every Minnesota Wild NHL game broadcast...
There’s quite a few different variants of the thing. One that I remember was a Rainbow Trout that sings Rock The Boat and Do Wah Diddy Diddy. There was also a catfish, a shark, a lobster and even a life size deer head. Heck my cousin had a skeleton fish one for Halloween back in the day!
My grandfather used to have the singing bass. I don’t know what is more creepy that thing or Furbies. Cool list Josh. Thanks for another informative video.❤
interesting,i didn't know that Australia also called pogs "Tazos",here in Mexico those where also called that, and they exploded in popularity when they started making Pokemon themed
the pogs discs things reminds me of something similar that my country serbia has to this day. There called Chipicao and there a croissant with chocolate inside it, but also includes a little disc based on the theming. i remember collecting a bit of How to train your dragons chipicao discs when they were the main theme and i still have those few discs to this day. They're cute innocent fun while had a decent croissant that is still pretty popular to this day
I actually had a Big mouth billy bass, and one day, my brother's cat Davey decided he was going to slap it as soon as it started making noise. It started singing, Take me to the river, and as soon as the head popped out, he slapped it and broke every mechanism in it
We have a furby Baby in the shed, I remember carrying it by the hair on its head, one small bump and it would wake up, so then you have to put it back to sleep and then you get so annoyed that we just kept taking the batteries out. 6:43
Great video like the usual, Strider. And by the way, can you do a list of interesting toys that was made from your country Australia? I'm kinda curious what's your opinion about Moose Toys Company, the toy company from Australia who was behind of Shopkins, Trash Pack, Grossery Gang and Treasure X. I like to know how you thinking about it, Strider
Im very surprised that there wasn't a Big Mouth Billy Bass joke in Spongebob, (Or I dont remember anytime they joke about the BMBB) It just sounds like one to me.
21:55 there's an old Dan & Phil Games video where they talk about Koosh balls, and for some reason that lives in my mind rent-free. "What the hell is a koosh what are you on about?!" "You need to get a koosh in your life"
4:08 Animatronic Toy Collector here!!! I love furby!!! I think they’re adorable little creatures. I have a few different furby from different releases!!! The current community who collects them is also pretty interesting, many people in the community like to create their own designs for the furballs! The reason they can turn on on their own is because they have an internal memory. This memory is used to store data on how long the owner of the furby has played with it. The more the furby is played with, the more it’ll “learn”. Without the extra battery, the furby will “forget what it learnt”.
I was at the absolute perfect age for Pogs. I had so many of those cardboard discs, and several AWESOME slammers including a super thick rubber one that smelled like "strawberry".
A note on the POGs, they're still sold and available as promotional material. I have a few back in Latinamerica, and I remember a lot of promotions that Frito-Lay would do. They had done stuff with Dragonball, Fairly Odd Parents, Angry Birds, even Ben 10.
I loved my Furrbie 😂 it was red with black tips on its ears and black polkadots all over. I strangely didn't see it as creepy. Even though I do feel like my family's house back then was haunted. Although I also loved dumbo as a kid and watching it as an adult made me wonder wtf was wrong with me as a child 😂😂 I think the reason why the slinky is so popular is because it's soooo satisfying to watch it "do the thing"😮😮😮 I FORGOT ABOUT KOOSH BALLS! I loved those! They were basically the first fidget toy before fidget toys were really a thing.
There is actually an episode of Peppa Pig that features a parody big mouth bill bass sold by Mr. Fox which sings a blues style rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! Though the Pig family end up getting it for free with the purchase of another item!
The Gak looks like it would be a nice stim toy for some neurodivergent people. I actually do like the idea of a mess-free slime that you can play with.
It's very easy to make one, we were taught how to by our teacher when I was in 6th grade, you just need glue, water, and borax, they don't last very long but it's quite fun and again, very easy to make
I remember so many of these…and have the commercials stuck in my head. Some of them I actually still like, such as Gak and Koosh balls, and I still have my original Furby, albeit in a box in the basement somewhere. As for stupid inventions you missed, do you remember the Hillbilly Teeth? Those hideous, misshapen plastic teeth that fit over the wearer’s own teeth and were usually found in novelty stores and capsule machines? The guy who invented them made millions, just off those insulting, ugly, stupid teeth. It’s good to see Boo again! I’ve missed his cute lil’ hamster voice! And Robyn’s back too! I love it!
I think the most moronic item not mentioned here (idk if it really made millions) is the Fushigi ball. I hate the fact that i fell for a goddamn heavy metal ball that's supposedly "magic" 😤 it was literally just a heavy ball that included a DVD that would teach you how to make it magic. There were parts in the DVD where the guy teaching you would tell the viewer to buy more balls in order to make other "tricks". I just wanted to get it off my chest. I hate this product so much because I really felt tricked. P.S. Love your videos Strider your content is very entertaining
My dad has a Billy Big Mouth Bass and a different singing fish called Tommy the Talking Trout or something like that. Also, my childhood Koosh ball is a few inches away from me right now. My cats love playing with it as much as I do. 😂
One Honorable Mention would be the Pet Rock. It's...a rock. An ordinary pebble in a little box with actual "care instructions" for your pet rock. I'm guessing the appeal was similar to the Chia Pet, except this one doesn't even do anything, it's just a rock!
Ah yes, excellent idea! Cover your entire car with grass so any bugs can go in there. Doesn't sound annoying to be invaded by ants or flies when your driving 😂
Ok, so did the KFC novel come first and then the game makers decided to take inspiration from that or...did the romance novel creators and game developers just share brain cells long enough to come up with the same joke concept, while being completely unaware of each other's existence?! 🤔 We may never know...
I can't get over how great this channel is. Really interesting topics, particularly the food content which is very pro-health and calls junk food out for what it is. If a child came across this channel it sends an extremely positive message to them, better than most of the other trash content kids end up watching on UA-cam. Great job Strider!
Nobody really cares about Gak anymore, at least, no one my age does anymore. But at least from what I've heard, its initial revival in the early 2010s led to it becoming a minor meme when it popped up during airings of My Little Pony.

This channel literally calms my anxiety, thank you Strider♥️
17:06 "Fifty Shades of Gravy" 🤣🤣
21:36 Kooshies are one of the best stim toys.
I think I had at least one as a kid
My daughter was given a chia Obama as a gag Xmas gift years ago. It's sitting in her closet gathering dust as she thinks it will make a good buck in thirty years. 😂
I remember the first time I ever saw a singing fish on a board. It was in a Mexican restaurant called Pepe's. I'm not sure if anybody's familiar with the restaurants. It's a small chain restaurant. I don't know if it's national, definitely not international.
I was a little kid the first time I saw it. My mother took me straight up and pressed the button so it starts singing to see how I would react & immediately freaked out.😂
At the time I did not like it and for some reason it actively scared me and freaked me out & I started crying.
"Number 2: Head On-"
My last remaining brain cells, all in unison: _APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD_
APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD
I don't think I've seen a single Chia pet outside of it's box letalone with grass on it, I'm surprised it still sells well
A lot of people get them as gag gifts or Dirty Santa presents.
Yea I don't think I've seen them much either but I did have one when I was younger
I have seen a few but with peppergrass instead of chia.
I honestly love that you collected little pieces of plastic religiously XD
I feel like everyone has something from their childhood that they collected and I'm still going strong as an adult 🙆🏻♀️
About the Chia pet, I've never seen one before 🤔
I am tempted to get one now though (or make one myself) because it's just so fascinating to see it grow (I adore plants)
I have one of the spinoff Furby's known as a Shellby & if there is one thing I've learned is to make sure their batteries are removed if you don't want them activating on you! You can see Roger Shiftman holding one at 6:02!
Another interesting and unique video. Really love your work and channel.
As weird as it sounds, the "Gak" actually do predated the popularity of the "slime" videos that you often see on UA-cam nowadays. I guess Nickelodeon is way ahead of its time with that strange toy.
It was the 90s, gross out was a trend during that time period. Nickelodeon had been using slime in the 90s as well.
The thing I hated about Gak was that it would inevitably get grime, dirt, and debris permanently stuck to it. It'd look more and more like an odd colored booger that fell in the dirt.
I remember Gak being poplar when I was younger but I'm a 2000s guy
All my life i wanted the singing bass i know i would get annoyed by it but it looks so silly and fun
There's actually an episode of Big City Greens about the big mouth billy bass called "Barry Cuda", where Cricket won't stop pressing the button constantly to make the fish sing, and everyone else gets annoyed by it and tries to destroy it.
Off topic, but thank you for never having any scammy sponsors or bad messages. You put your morals first, and I appreciate that.
I actually learned about the slinkies used be a spring mechanic, because it showed it in Toys That Built America on the history channel.
I’m making ideas for scary games. Anything else that was meant for kids but was terrifying that you haven’t seen made into a game?
Yeah, and it ended up being one of the best games in its category despite not being remembered.
@Cubeytheawesome
I dunno if it'd be a good idea, but I always had this stupid fear when I was a kid. Being a real life person and being transformed into a cartoon character.
How did this fear appear? The movie Rock-A-Doodle, where the main character gets turned into a cartoon kitten by the movie's villain.
It also stems to other situations, such as Tiana's transformation in Princess and the Frog, a FNAF novel where a teenage girl is slowly turned into sentient, unfeeling, immobile trash, and if a transformation is permanent, it really makes me super creeped out
As a collector of both singing fish and Furbys, I feel personally attacked by the thumbnail
Perfectly fair 😄 No offense intended
@@phantomstrider I was mostly joking... You didn't have to change the fish to Colonel Sanders 😂
Also why did you change "most moronic" to "stupidest"? Did "moronic" offend someone else?
@@kjw21411 I didn't change moronic because it offended anyone 🙂 A personal decision because it better matches the category of previous videos such as stupidest fast food or stupidest items ever made.
@@phantomstrider oh okay, that makes sense
Oh gosh! I remember being terrified of the Koosh balls when I was little. I have no idea why I was so scared of them. I don't mind them much now.
I used to love them lol
@@bigjalapeno7061 I just don't know why I didn't like them as a kid. Lol. I don't really mind them now a days. I will actually pick one up now. Lol.
"Mitchells vs the Machines" was the natural evolution of the Furby
To play Devils advocate the Indiana Jones chia pet was clever. Made indy look like he was in the forest and not make just his head the pet. A common sense idea that someone actually did and it worked
Your POG obsession is pretty awesome. Everyone collects stuff that we look as kinda silly, but remember that’s what made us who we are now and what we like. Finally learned the history on these things, so thank you.😊 Pray for the POGS.
I’m honestly surprised Furbies don’t look creepy anymore because I always thought they looked a bit off hack there in Mitchell’s vs the machines
furbies were not stupid. and just because people claim they turned on in the middle of the night by themselves, doesn't mean it's true.
The USB enabled pet rock is one. There's also sea monkeys.
Are we just not going to acknowledge the irony in this video being sponsored by Magic Spoon?
interesting,i didn't know that Australia also called pogs "Tazos",here in Mexico those where also called that, and they exploded in popularity when they started making Pokemon themed
They became mad popular in Brazil too, I still have some of them from back in the day in a box somewhere XD
Pogs & Tazos were different, Pogs were a perfect circle whereas Tazos had little notches so you could slot them together… I think.
@@mgthestrange9098 oh yeah some of them indeed had that little thing right in the middle!,but those where like very early ones
the pogs discs things reminds me of something similar that my country serbia has to this day.
It started singing, Take me to the river, and as soon as the head popped out, he slapped it and broke every mechanism in it
That darn cat! lol
Wow, that kitty had some power in those paws! Nice one Davie.
Can't forget Rule 1156 category 34: If it exists, there's a chia pet of it
We have a furby Baby in the shed, I remember carrying it by the hair on its head, one small bump and it would wake up, so then you have to put it back to sleep and then you get so annoyed that we just kept taking the batteries out.
6:43
When I see that bass, I just remember Thelma from Arthur singing row row row your boat! Lol.
I mostly heard of the Chia Pet from Scott The Woz.
But Chia seeds are a popular health food here in the Philippines.
I eat them with my breakfast so I was thinking the same thing.
24:34 HEAD ON: It took me awhile to remember this ridiculous product. I remember laughing at the commercials on TV for this =)
I have a Big Mouth Billy Bass version from McDonald's named Frankie. He plays the Filet-o-Fish jingle.
I'm surprised Pet Rocks and the 'pets that are asleep' but breathed toys weren't up there.
Can You Do Top 5 Worst/Best Spanish Cartoons?
I don't think Furbies are the ones we should be worried about being spies...
Ever heard of Iz?
Im very surprised that there wasn't a Big Mouth Billy Bass joke in Spongebob, (Or I dont remember anytime they joke about the BMBB) It just sounds like one to me.
Same, I don’t recall there being one. I thought the Realistic Fish Head was a parody of it, but it’s not.
21:55 there's an old Dan & Phil Games video where they talk about Koosh balls, and for some reason that lives in my mind rent-free. "What the hell is a koosh what are you on about?!" "You need to get a koosh in your life"
Ah yes, furby
The demon that overtook the 2010s
4:08 Animatronic Toy Collector here!!!
I love furby!!! I think they’re adorable little creatures. I have a few different furby from different releases!!! The current community who collects them is also pretty interesting, many people in the community like to create their own designs for the furballs!
The reason they can turn on on their own is because they have an internal memory. This memory is used to store data on how long the owner of the furby has played with it. The more the furby is played with, the more it’ll “learn”. Without the extra battery, the furby will “forget what it learnt”.
I collect animatronic toys too!
Hey Srider, I'm autistic too, so you're not alone
But I also have ADHD
Same!
I was at the absolute perfect age for Pogs. I had so many of those cardboard discs, and several AWESOME slammers including a super thick rubber one that smelled like "strawberry".
TOP 10 Strangest Character Designs
That's an interesting idea.
A note on the POGs, they're still sold and available as promotional material. I have a few back in Latinamerica, and I remember a lot of promotions that Frito-Lay would do. They had done stuff with Dragonball, Fairly Odd Parents, Angry Birds, even Ben 10.
Oh, man! I remembered that fish! 😂 My relatives used to have it when I was a kid.
9:04 I even hear Mattel wants to do a horror comedy movie based on this thing.
Good morning. I hope everyone is having a great day today.
Imagine if they made Skibidi Toilet Furbies.
It also screwed over anyone doing that kind of performance, since people who had only seen the ad believed the prop was doing the work.
My dad has a Billy Big Mouth Bass and a different singing fish called Tommy the Talking Trout or something like that.
Also, my childhood Koosh ball is a few inches away from me right now. My cats love playing with it as much as I do. 😂
I remember furbies they were creepy
I was never interested.
The older Furbbys was cuter and better then the crap versions we have now
Ok, so did the KFC novel come first and then the game makers decided to take inspiration from that or...did the romance novel creators and game developers just share brain cells long enough to come up with the same joke concept, while being completely unaware of each other's existence?! 🤔 We may never know...
Even McDonald's had their own singing fish to promote the Filet O Fish!
I like listening to your videos when I'm at home or at work or while sleeping I always learn something
In high school in our Autism awareness class, we used Pogs as a currency for the in-class storeroom. Good times.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Fidget Spinner or The Pet Rock. I thought those would make the list.
12:45 We should publicly shame that teacher for banning gak in class. THAT TEACHER HAD NO RIGHTS TO BAN GAK IN CLASS.
What’s even funnier is someone took that billy bass and turned it into an Amazon Alexa 😂
Two words: dying furbies.
If someone tries to bring a Furby into a government building, it's not the Furby you should be worried about.
Strider’s Colonel Sanders impression is unbelievably funny
Lol we should all but strider a chia pet and send it to a po box 😂
