Downtown is not worth visiting unless you really need to. You could spend your entire life in Saskatoon without really needing to go downtown.
Dan C This is a very grey day right at the end of winter.... worst times to film would be late fall and very early spring. In the summer there is greenery everywhere, people out on the streets, pots of flowers in the medians and on the street corners. There are almost weekly festivals going on downtown... the riverbank around the Bessborough hotel and River Landing is filled with people running/ cycling/ walking. This video does not do the city justice at all. As for your comment about low buildings... I suppose if you are keen on a big city with skyscrapers that shut out the sun and the beautiful sky ( Saskatchewan is known for this), then you are right - Saskatoon is not the city for you.
This was awesome! I lived in Saskatoon my entire life and moved to the Island three years ago. It brought back so many memories as you drove past familiar landmarks. Thank you for this trip down memory lane!😊
I stayed in Saskatoon while taking ESL program of U of S. in 1996-1997. And I visited Saskatoon in 2016 with my family to remember those days. From Korea..
I grew up in this city thank you for posting this video. I noticed a lot of changes. But there were still buildings I recognized. I like the new facade on Midtown Plaza. This what the old train station looked until 1968 when it was torn down to make way for this new plaza wondering what was going to take Sears place since that closed down. The School Board office use to be in the old tech building at the bottom of the 19 th street now the offices have moved to the old Eaton/Army and Navy store.
Although out my life, this was my gateway of my appointments. I treasured the moment when I rode with Saskatchewan Transportation Company before. It was a great experience.

I moved to Saskatoon in 1982 lived there until 2006 the year I got married and moved to the Uk I notice a big change in the city,what a difference I think I would be lost if I ever came back for a visit.
From an outsider prospective who's want to live in Saskatoon, this video actually help to make up my mind, it looks great to be honest with you, and it's nice to get better idea of the city vibes though its good and bad days.

Saskatoon is known as the Paris of the Prairies. As a Nova Scotian I had the joy of visiting this beautiful city in July 2011. Would be a delightful contrast to see this same route videoed again on a sunny day in a warmer season.

I live here and they are brutally unclear. In the winter, the ice and snow gets packed so hard on the road, that it's like an ice rink. To stop people from sliding into each other, they cover the roads with gravel to add traction. As the ice melts, the ground up gravel acts like sandpaper and removes all the lines off the road... not that people here ever pay attention to the lines, signs, pedestrians, or other drivers on the road anyway.
i'm in Virginia Was this a Sunday, morning or does Saskatoon not have traffic? There is more traffic than THAT in cities less than half the size. Don't they have single family houses in Saskatoon? Saskatoon DOES have roundabouts. We don't really have those here!
Weekend traffic is much lighter in Downtown Saskatoon, also this was filmed in late March which can still be fairly cold here hence fewer people out and about.

There were actually a decent number of trees but because it was early spring when the leaves haven’t grown and everything is brown they didn’t really stand out.

Driving in any direction away from downtown would show that every neighbourhood has countless trees. There's jack rabbits that hop around at night when everyone's asleep. I can't tell you how many trees are in this city. It's just the person filming only drove around the sad and depressing downtown area.

Paper Moon Just moved from there less than two weeks ago. Downtown has absolutely nothing to offer. It’s such an empty city. Maybe it’s someone’s cup of tea, and it’s really not my place to judge, but to me it was VERY bare-boned (fiancé even had the same opinion despite him enjoying more of a country lifestyle). I prefer a much more lively and “dense” city than Saskatoon. It really felt empty and sad the entire two years I was there. It just seemed as if the only people who thought of Saskatoon as the “big city” were the ones who never stepped foot outside the province.
Suggest Living At Alberta but idek about the jobs cause u get 15$ per hour wage Saskatoon has 11.35 but increased I think cause of Covid-19. There are some nice house but some costs ALOT like ALOT. U an get an apartment for 800 - 1,000 or rent a House Which is decent but 1,000 - 1,500 a month but idk Security and privacy is what I like. You wouldn’t really know if There’s hidden tiny Cameras projected everywhere
This video just does not do downtown Saskatoon justice at all and should have been done in the Summer during a busier hour when downtown is alive. This makes Saskatoon look like a bleak, cold, uninviting and unprosperous place to be to people who don’t know the city. Disappointing to say the least. I hope you will redo and delete this.
I am not sure what exactly you were expecting to see? Its a pretty normal place, not fancy no, but also this is just a video of a guy driving around in the worst weather. I live in Saskatoon, have been living here since 1999. Its not for everyone, but for such a large city its got that small town feel you can feel when talking to a majority of the people here. All of Saskatchewan looks grey and colourless in winter. Spring is short and summer comes quickly and then it’s way more attractive. Saskatoon has very nice university buildings. And the river. And a paddle boat that offers trips.

We put a lot of sand on our roads so when there’s a drought like there was last year the sand stays all spring. Very sparse, poorly cultured, lots of crime, winters that are too long, roads that suck, a lack of interesting natural features, all in the middle of one of the worst ecological disasters, the Canadian prairie. When you compare Saskatoon to even towns half its size in BC yet have more to do, it shows just how boring this place is.
I lived there for about a year in the early 80's, and the only month it didn't snow was July. Honest to God, it snowed the first week of June and the last week of August. In between it was hot, windy, and dusty, and there were trucks pumping out clouds of mosquito poison at night, though I never saw or felt a mosquito the whole time. Maybe it worked. Good area for driving, though. I could make the 425 miles to Calgary in about five hours, and speeding tickets were $50 no matter how fast you were going.

@@ThePrizmbot - I'm not lying - it really happened. We also had a flood with water six feet deep up the side of my house. I think one person drowned when her car got stuck in an overpass and ended up fifteen feet underwater. (I just looked that up - it was June 24, 1983) There were also quite a few incredibly windy days, including once when the wind broke a window beside the toilet while I was sitting on it. Didn't see any plagues of locusts, but it wouldn't have surprised me. I don't mean to insult your town, but the weather just wasn't cooperative that year.

The city spreads dirt all winter long to cover the snow and ice. Every spring is mud season.
It's actually a mixture of mostly sand and a bit of salt. It melts the snow and ice and improves traction for vehicles' tires.

Yes there are all types of housing there. Just the cameraman didn’t drive in the residential areas this is more of the downtown core and old area.

I lived at the building on the right hand side at 20:25 and it was $1250 a month for a, fairly spacious 2 bedroom.

I know it may not look like a nice populated city in Canada, but still a nice city to live in
Very sparse, poorly cultured, lots of crime, winters that are too long, roads that suck, a lack of interesting natural features, all in the middle of one of the worst ecological disasters, the Canadian prairie. When you compare Saskatoon to even towns half its size in BC yet have more to do, it shows just how boring this place is.

Why record this in winter/early spring when the city looks like death?
I lived there for about a year in the early 80's, and the only month it didn't snow was July. Honest to God, it snowed the first week of June and the last week of August. In between it was hot, windy, and dusty, and there were trucks pumping out clouds of mosquito poison at night, though I never saw or felt a mosquito the whole time. Maybe it worked. Good area for driving, though. I could make the 425 miles to Calgary in about five hours, and speeding tickets were $50 no matter how fast you were going.
@@bobjames6284 Lived in Sask my whole life, not once did i see it snow in summer, so i have a hard time believing that. Granted i wasn't alive in the 80s.
@@ThePrizmbot - I'm not lying - it really happened. We also had a flood with water six feet deep up the side of my house. I think one person drowned when her car got stuck in an overpass and ended up fifteen feet underwater. (I just looked that up - it was June 24, 1983) There were also quite a few incredibly windy days, including once when the wind broke a window beside the toilet while I was sitting on it. Didn't see any plagues of locusts, but it wouldn't have surprised me. I don't mean to insult your town, but the weather just wasn't cooperative that year.
