  • Train Stops Over Busy Highway Railroad Crossing Waiting For 2nd Train To Pass. Fire Department Right Next To CSX Railroad Crossing In Oxford, Ohio. SpongeBob Square Pants Locomotive Leading Fast Mixed Freight. 1899 Rail Still In Use & Norfolk Southern Train Passes Abandoned Mills.
    My first visit to Oxford, Ohio due to a Railfan request. This is the CSX Indy Sub that passes right in front of the Oxford City Fire Department. I got a westbound train passing in front of the station. This train is the Connersville Local based out of Indiana. I heard it approaching on 160.230 and got it at the fire station. I am told by a viewer that the Oxford Amtrak platform will start construction in 2026. I will be there.
    Next, I went to Camden, Ohio. First we see 1899 rail that is still in use on a maintenance of way siding in town. While I was there a westbound train came into town and stopped on the main to wait for an eastbound train to pass. The train was too long and had cars stretched out past the siding and across the busy highway. Dozens of cars were turning around. The crossing was blocked for over half an hour. The next train to pass is a heavy eastbound grain train.
    After that we see a train in Hamilton, Ohio. This is an eastbound Norfolk Southern intermodal train running southbound on the CSX tracks. Don't miss a special guest appearance at 27:57, this is really awesome!
    I also got some trains at the ex bouncy bridge and did some radar checks there so that will be in Part 2 posted soon.
    Filmed Tuesday, June 18, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

    . 4:24 A community like this that has trains running through the city or town , better have another fire department (maybe just one firetruck) on the other side of the tracks , every second counts in an emergency. 🚨🚒🚨

  • @beeble2003

    27:25 "I'm not really sure what these are"
    Fairly sure they're AEI (Automatic Equipment Identification) tag readers. Each car has an AEI tag on the side, which a little grey box with bevelled edges -- you can see one on the last covered hopper at 26:56, on the car frame above the discharge gate at the front end of the car. They're RFID tags so, when they're pinged with radio waves at a specific frequency, they retransmit information including the car ID, "do not hump" status and so on. Lets the railroads track that everything's in the right place.

    The devices at 27:35 are Automatic Equipment Identifiers. They read the RFID panels on the cars much the same as the Pikepass on your car. If they are co-located with a defect detector the defect detector can tell exactly where the defect is without the conductor or others walking the entire train to find it.

    Going by the squeaking of the rails as they go down and up when the wheels go over, it seems like there is a bit of a subsidence under the tracks, just screaming for a bit of track maintenance. That bouncing is pulling the track spikes loose.

      You can physically see that track moving a good three inches every time a truck rolled over it

    I remember my hometown of Lebanon Ky. Built another Fire and Rescue on the other side of the track's back in the late 70's because the trains ran right through the middle of town and would sometimes block the crossings. Then CSX abandoned the line in 86 about 8 years after they built the new fire and rescue!

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth  10 днів тому +1

      Now I see where the name Lebanon Jct came from. I just followed that line on Google Maps. Why was the railroad only there for 8 years? What happened

      @@JawTooth the railroad was there since the 1800's the new fire and rescue was only there for 8 years before the railroad got abandoned. 👍 fixed my post, looked like the railroad instead of the fire and rescue the way I wrote it. 😊👍

    Perhaps on another visit you could show us where that curved track goes with the old rail. Mr Carnegie would be extremely proud as he was still alive when that rail was rolled at the mill. Then the train that passes has a whole group of brand new UTLX tank cars. Who knows maybe the rail will outlive those cars. If in doubt on one of those lengthy meets go to the Dairy Depot and you'll feel better but that is one of the problems with PSR. Another niche of the Buckeye state has now been explored

    > Any idea what the blue paint on the rail joints are about?
    > It looks like the rail is 'pumping' so I hope they do some roadbed work before too long.
    > That would have been super if you'd have been able to catch the switch points aligning for the (eastbound) passing track.
    > I seem to always find myself wondering, "how fast are those trains moving?" Wonder how we could ever calculate that? Guess I need to wait for 'Part 2'. ;^)
    > Those vertical oblong boxes just east of the switch - I'm thinking they are those car tag scanners

    Do you remember that just a few weeks ago I asked if you ever had seen a 5-unit IM car?

    That was a fairly long intermodal/rack train. The axle count was deceiving at 328. If you counted what you I would call car beds there were 110. 😊😊😊❤❤❤

    • @RailRide
      @RailRide 10 днів тому +1

      I usually count the articulated cars by the number of platforms in each set even though each set is technically one car. The reasoning being that you can also have varying numbers of single unit cars in an intermodal consist, and so counting articulated cars the technical way can give wildly inconsistent impressions of train length (like say, twenty cars sounds pretty short, but if it were twenty of the _five unit_ cars, that would be nearly a mile long :D ). Then you have intermodal trains with regular freight cars in the consist like the one with autoracks tacked on the end in this video.
      Although, I will admit to an inconsistency in the above. Articulated auto carriers and two-unit "coaltainer" cars I'll usually count as one since they rarely comprise a significant portion of the consist.

    30:33 The five-section cars carry 20' and 40' containers, which are international boxes built to a standard that allows their use on container ships headed overseas. Halfway through that train, the consist changes to three-section cars for 53' containers, which are strictly domestic and don't leave North America. International containers can travel in these cars as well, as 45' and 48' ones. Why the longer cars were never built as five-section units is unknown to me as of this writing.
