The 2” x 1/2” flat bar is a badly sill step from the corner of a railcar. The square steel item is a journal box lid that covered the old friction bearing/waste packing/oil on the end of a railcar axle from the days before roller bearings. Retired railway car repairman here
I and another RR person tell me the same thing, thanks for watching.
hell big guy you tell a good story i love old history very well done man keep up the good work theres a lot history on the old clinchfield rail road i worked on back 70s 80s
Thanks my friend.....I'm working on more historical videos to post soon.
Very interesting history. That piece of mangled flat stock may have been part of a hand rail. Awesome finds though. Thank you for sharing with us.
I believe you're right. It may have been from that wrecked car. Either way...its interesting going to these sites of tragedies. I'm working on more videos like this. Thanks for watching.
@@maysvillekentuckysimpleliving yep. Oh yeah that would definitely be cool.
Awesome those will be interesting to watch also. Thank you Mark for taking us with you on these adventures of history.
Stay safe and God Bless brother
The flat thing looks like a bearing journal box cover!
I've had someone else say there same thing...so...I believe you. Thanks for watching.
They asked the old engineer how many derailments he'd had.
He said he couldn't remember. It was too hard to keep track.
Yeah...I thought that was very interesting too.
That was another great video! You have a truly natural gift for many things and presentation is definitely one of them. If you like historic metal detecting Aquachigger is a neat UA-cam channel. Thanks again and keep up the great work. I really dug that video.
I love watching Aguachigger's channel. That fellow finds more GoPro cameras and cell phones than anyone I've ever seen...!! I LOVE it..thanks for those kind words my friend.
Interesting - there's a similar video on youtube examining the Ashtabula disaster site, which comes up with all manner of railroad car parts left from the wreck. But, please be careful on the railroad - technically you're trespassing walking on the track, and it is shockingly amazing how quiet an engine can be coming up behind you......
Thanks my friend....I grew up along the C & O tracks as a boy. I have total respect for those large metal monsters!

Looks like a grate for the air intake of a stove.
I'm thinking the same......wonder if it was left from the wreck..?? I guess one will never know. Thanks for watching.,
That is a journal box lid from a friction bearing.
Someone else said the same thing....Thanks for watching.,
The other thing looks like a air vent
Makes sense to me.....because I really have no idea. Thanks for watching. .
