Hey Mr Sheff here's a great plant dust hack for you. I use a fluffy duster with a long pole, that way the tallest plant tops can be dusted too. The leaves shine an the plants absolutely love it, I do it several times a week. They perk up everytime. Happy Planting.

The wizard has helped me so much in the last couple of weeks it's almost comical. I searched around and decided on Sheffield Made Plants as my mentor. I was worried that I did not pick someone closer as I'm from Canada but man am I pleased with my choice. Rich's advice and his responses are always daily and around the same time. It's awesome. As I decided to start fresh, my plant hobby, it is building fast. With around 34 varieties in a few weeks in moving. Most are babies or I transferred to growing in water. There are only about 5 to 6 fussy ones. It's all Rich's fault. lol DON'T MIST PEOPLE! Love and Peace.

I've seen videos of so-called "prop lifting" and have been doing it for decades! The videographers only admit to taking plants that have fallen on the ground, but I'm with you, nothing wrong with carrying a small pair of scissors at all times. After all, our host here sings the praises of pruning, so we're actually "helping" the plants.

Aquarium water conditioner, if it’s a good brand, does two things to water: It removes chorine, and it breaks down chloramine and ammonia into available nitrogen. Both these things are good for plants.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. I was afraid of sun burning my snake plants. All that did was make my plants leggy and slow growing. I put them in a south facing window and they are growing at a steady pace.
Fish tank water has been a game changer. I'll never need to buy fertilizer again. Even for cactus and succulents it's great.

    • @lindaschad9734

I live there, too, after living in Southern California for decades. Our house, near Seattle, has very wide eaves and is surrounded by Douglas firs, so virtually no natural light is available, especially in winter. Mr. Sheffield's lament about dark and rainy days fits the climate here perfectly, and I've found that his advice is the most applicable to my situation of anyone I've watched. Best tip: grow lights! I have them everywhere and I, too, wonder what the neighbors think we have going on.

We got a Zebra Calathea and have no real issues. Use rain water and got it in a spot about 3/4 meters from a south facing window with a little more shade provided by our Monstera. It gets a little crispy on a leaf or two if it drys out quicker than I expected but otherwise it's doing grand and got a bunch of new growth coming through this year 🤙

  • @censusgary

I agree that misting plants doesn’t affect the humidity much, unless you do it all day. But that takes all day, and also, everything in the house will get soaked. There are ways to boost indoor humidity, but you probably don’t want to do any of them, if you also have to live in the same room.

    • @lindaschad9734

I tried it and the plants dried off immediately afterward. I bought a humidifier for winter, along with a temperature/humidity gauge and found that since my plants are grouped together, the humidity stayed the same whether it was on or off (60%). The only time it increased was when I set the humidifier at "high", which made my table all wet and didn't seem to make my plants grow any better. Baby's tears are definitely a closed terrarium plant.

I have a "surviving" calathea. She would grow a leaf and as that leaf starts to die, a new leaf grows alongside. So on average, I have a leaf and a half. Lol... I do use stress coat as I have lots of aquariums. I also tried giving it milk as I saw that in another video. It did quite help. You are so true, these challenging clatheas are very high maintenance.

I did order 2 separate Sansi grow lights but I am not really a fan. They are EXTREMELY Hot! I burned myself trying to set them up! I am afraid to leave these on in my bedroom with no one around all day. I tried to return them but the shipping was cost prohibitive. I might try and sell them on FB marketplace. I found Barrina's to do the trick for me. I can touch and move them even when they have been on all day. With a new grandbaby on the way I need them to be safe. Thanks for all your amazing videos! they are so much fun.

If I may Mr. Sheffield, I bought a baby monstera last late summer & it’s happily growing. But, it’s really growing (6 leaves, I think, & appendages) I feel it’s time to replant. Two ?? When I repot, should I bury the appendages? I also bought a pot roughly 2.5 times bigger than its current one, I’ve watched you & it looks like they enjoy being root bound. I plan on buying a moss pole before I transplant, but I need your advice first. BTW, I ❤❤❤ your show, you are hilarious! Educational without being boring. Thank you.

    • @SheffieldMadePlants

What’s appendages? Try not to bury the stems or petioles in soil cos that can cause rot issues. Keep the crown at the same level it is now. You’ll be fine though. Forgiving plants

not a criticism. Of course if you uncurl your hose and leave it spread out in the sun, the water in it will heat up a bit. I recently sprayed the tops of a dirty plant with the kitchen sink sprayer.

Just wondering how many plastic cases you can fill with a 3 liter bag of Sphagnum moss. Really want to make my own moss poles but I am unsure how much moss to buy. Thank you in advance!

Does the moisture meter that you show in the video really work well? i read so many bad reviews on that meter and had some bad experiences with that specific meter myself.
After doing some research i found out that there is also a meter from the brand Skyard, this one has many good reviews and i ordered 2! i also believe that the Skyard meter is the original one and the other ones are knock-offs.

It works for me. Depends on the soil maybe

I’ve tried moss poles and they are difficult to keep moist in my dry climate. Does the soil in the pole work better?

My two fiddle leaf figs are on both sides of my bed like centries. Six feet tall in all their glory. Talk to you soon Best to you and your kids.

Mr S, what are your thoughts on one small black spider hanging around my plants, I think he eats any bugs or gnats.

Did you find out if your begonias are one of the iridescent species? Someone’s selling a green/red one like yours for cheap near me, I’m thinking of buying one, if it is 🤔
The way to check is basically take them into a pitch black room, like at night with all the lights off. Take some pics with flash from various angles. If you see shimmery color changes in the leaves(usually turquoise or navy blue) it’s an iridescent species you can make more shiny with proper light/conditions. I swear it’s the best kept secret in the plant world. If people knew you could call them “iridescent shimmer colour changing plants” they’d be charging £££££ for little foliage begonias!
…ahhh who am I kidding, I’m gonna buy it anyway😅

I find the awareness on plant shock from shop to home has always purposely been lacking, (clever marketing, just like indoor coconut palms in pots that no house in England has ever had luck with😂) it's such a shame watching and dealing with shock damage on a new plant once it starts to show at home and becomes a Florence nightingale 24 hour care job 😮

I appreciate your humor and all the shared knowledge. 🫶
Nice to see someone in a similar climate with a thriving indoor jungle. As opposed to people living in perfect weather conditions where everything grows effortlessly 😅
I always had houseplants but just recently fell into the rabbit hole and now am unhinged 😂 but learning alot from previous mistakes now that I know what I did wrong 😜😅😂
