- Alocasias in Lechuza Pon in terracotta is our magic. And watering with API stress coat, and API LEAF ZONE. We start the corms in pearlite, then transfer to Pon with a plastic grid screen in the bottom after they start leafing. We also have a cupid pepperomia in Pon and it's doing great. We tell everyone to get used to terracotta and it's good for everything from pothos, philodendron, spiders, and cactus.
I fear I accidentally flexed my plant-knowledge at our local shop this morning, and now they've asked me to come work for them a couple hours a week to keep their plant-corner in top condition. 😂 I am really excited and mortified at the same time. Anyway, I wanted to give you a big thanks cause really they've hired you, I'm just repeating the stuff I've learned from this channel.
Thank you for creating this opportunity in my life, its going to bring me tons of joy (mostly, hopefully, if I manage to keep the plants alive)
Probably my favourite comment ever received!
Congrats! That’s really cool! You’ll probably get discounts on plants that you buy, plus you’ll gain even more knowledge as you go along. Have fun!!
“A check up a week keeps your plants at their peak!” ❤
That’s it! 😁
Bravo Ceri, that's the clever rhyme he was looking for! 💚🍃
💚💚💚 I invested in a moisture meter on your recommendation....never looked back. My plants are extremely grateful. Thank you, I love your content and sense of humour 😊💚💚💚
Wonderful!
I did the same. No regrets 👍
I’ve been buying them as presents for my plant friends
I love you and your videos. My home is starting to look like yours. 🪴
I bought a meter and didn’t trust it! Set it aside for months… 😊Ha! So, back at it and only water when the meter tells me it’s dry. Hoping for healthier plants…
I like your evil twin popping up every now and again with the sass. "You again!"
😂
Do not forget to talk with them 😅Its making them happier 😂
I love your wit lol.
Thanks!
A check up a week will keep ur plants looking sleek! LOL great video as always, my plant friends thank you
That's the one! 😁
I prefer Seachem Prime to API Stress Coat. The Seachem Prime only takes TWO DROPS from the small bottle per gallon. It is so much easier to use than the Stress Coat measurements.
You so funny yet so informative
I’ve been watching you for years now, so happy your subscribers are increasing so much, see you are nailing it
Looking forward to seeing spring videos
Thank you so much!!
I got a water, ph, and light meter. 😃
I finally got myself a moisture meter and have my kid check the moisture.
FYI while my plants were soaking (bottom watering) that same kid dropped the moisture meter in the water and didn’t tell me. I found it hours later completely flooded.
I couldn’t open it or dry it and obviously it wouldn’t work. But I let it drain vertically and dry for a few days and after the water that had penetrated the meter had dried, the meter worked again!
A phenomenal product and durable as well
I ❤ my moisture meter and stress therapy liquid.
I’m a cat sitter and I show pictures of interest to my clients, at the end of my book is a picture of a moisture meter and I say… “not cat related but if you’ve got plants then these are really really handy, you only need one!” 😆😀
Love it 😂
Yes you only need one BUT as much as he harps on it I feel as if I need two more, I keep up with mine as if it cost more than my house 😂
Blessings 💚💜
I picked a moisture meter after watching your plant care essentials video and I can now confidently water my plants. Thank you! Thank you for the wonderful knowledge, tips and effort you put in making these videos which makes learning so much fun with all the dose of amazing wit and humour.😊
Great stuff 👍
You know it’s a good day when there’s a new video from Sheffield Made Plants. I have your moisture meter. It’s a godsend. It’s probably saved me from overwatering my succulents many times. I’m not very good at feeding and cleaning my plant friends regularly. Thanks for the reminder to add that to my routine. I know I need new soil in some of them. Clearly what you do works. Your plants are beautiful.
Great stuff 👍 thanks
I acually rlly enjoy cleaning my leaves, they look so shiny when im done and I love it! Put on a movie, sit on the floor and take all my plants one by one!
Very good
I love plants and your humor!😂
Thanks!
I love that you addressed your own contradictions! They always confused me
Thank you! I use stress coat every time and it has made a big difference in my plants! They need to sponsor you!!
I know right!
The central heating gives me nosebleeds in the winter so i purchased an inexpensive cold mist ultrasonic humidifier for my bedroom. I set it up on the plant shelf I built in the window next to the bed hoping the plants would also benefit from it and they do!
Your videos are a great teacher my friend. Thanks
Glad you like them!
you are so entertaining...my kind of humor!!!
Thanks!
I love his move throwing plants in the bin.
😂
Love the moisture meter! I also have a pack of bamboo skewers that are basically just thin little sticks and if I poke the thing all the way down and no dirt sticks to it when I pull it out then the soil is too dry and needs watering, this can possibly be cheaper than the moisture meter but tbh the meter is awesome and a good purchase if you can do it! I just also use the little sticks to help get dirt out of roots and hold plants up when I dont have a lattice handy so they're great to have around.
Dude you're hilarious! Subbed!!
Appreciate it!
Thank you Mister Sheff' : )
Such clever jokes! Just what I need. It’s been a hard week. 😄
Great stuff 👍
I never watch any other plant videos!
Great tips, Sir Richard!!🪴👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I am so happy spring is almost here and I can tell my plants are as well! I’m starting to see new leaves and flowers popping up here and there.
Tell me about it!
I went and bought a metter last week and it's helping me do my chores to adjust my watering with my plant
That's great!
Thank's! That's what I'll do today since it's cold and rainy today!❤😊
great video again :) I took your advice and got a water meter same as yours. was cheap enough and worth it's weight in gold. My terrariums are so hard to get right - that thing has made a world of difference
Excellent!
@@SheffieldMadePlants Love your videos. Informative and funny too.
ugh, alocasias.....cant live with them.....cant live without them
😂 you are so funny Mr Sheffield. I love my moisture meter. Wouldn’t be without it!
Cheers!
Thank you so much for your knowledge, your humor & especially for your abundant tutelage. (Too many “providers” dragggggg out even meager tips.) You are a committed & excellent teacher!!! I continue recommending you to others all the time ~ even for a joyous respite! And keep your Evil Twin Skippy in his place (the lil’ bugger)!
Haha thank you!
Om just waiting every week for it to be warm so I can move most of my plants outside but it went from 70°F to a couple of inches of snow in a week... the groundhog lied...
You must be in Michigan, I was just thinking about my poor crocuses that were so pretty and yellow outside the other day along with other tender plants that were above ground 😢 oh well
@@gailtalley8037 ah nah Im over the lake, thankfully i only moved my juniper outside but i brought it back in. My neighbor put out their huge aloe and never brought it back in 🫤
Hehehe, your videos are so much fun!
Thanks!
mate show us your backyard and outdoor plant set up one day, would be great to see!
I've heard that spider plants also like to be a bit root-bound.
MMy plant game changed drastically once I got a water meter. before that, I used to kill them all!
nah, they absolutely thrive in more soil space, and have them in as much light as you can manage. Mine are LOVING the full sun in a south facing window.
My biggest “window” is my apartment balcony door. Unfortunately, it’s facing North which is so sad since I love plants. I guess I’d be smarter finding plants which can stand the lower Canadian winter light.
Moisture meters only work in regular potting soil. Not accurate with coco coir or soil mixes with perlite/vermiculite/orchid bark
I’ve also found they don’t work at all well with my chunkier peat free mixes. I use bamboo skewers instead .
Mr Sheffield, Treleaf has brought back their wooden plant tags that are updated
Blessings 💚
Indeed! Something coming up with them
@@SheffieldMadePlants 👍🏾
Thank you so much Richard, I really really enjoyed your talking to us all about these tips and tricks for caring for our plants. It’s so helpful and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Hahahaha yes! There’s the bin! Yup, humidity helps all pothos and philodendrons unfearl. Thanks for sharing Mr schieffield!
Thanks for watching 😁
I been using my moisture meter and watering from the bottom, will wait for maybe April or May here in south Florida to give them a bath im my sink. They do live inside by my glass door.
Sheffield, you may want to try your alocasias in pon if they’re giving you trouble. Mine were mighty feisty and knocking of their leaves until I did, and now I have my own personal record of five (5) leaves on an alocasia!
If you cant get a moisture meter, just get a skewer. Not as fancy but much cheaper!
The thing that I struggle with is I focus mainly on my bedroom plants, I end up forgetting the rest of the houses plants. Don’t worry they’re fine
Honestly, best advice of all! Regular check ups are important.❤
This is really good of you to offer this.😊
The moisture meter does not work at all in my epiphyte soil mixes. I also have a couple orchids in bark. The meter does work in the heavier mixes but I don't have any plants in that. I have to use my own deductive reasoning skills which is scary.
Very true unfortunatly. Very chunky mixes are a no go for meters.
@@1faithchick7 Yeah. I use the chunky mixes to avoid over watering. Now my fear is under watering.
The image of dead skin & toenails on the leaves of my Monstera had me 😂😂😂
🤣
Love your video
Thanks!
Great advice! I also use a bamboo skewer to check moisture.
Thank u for sharing
"Dead skin and toe nails"😂
I really like your videos, great knowledge with a lot of laught. I have bought the moister meter , 4 in all for family, and I love it. Thanks❤
That is awesome!
I have an Adansonii and yes Adansonii’s can have different sub species. I believe yours is the same as Sydney plant guys, and mine is something else. I also have an esqueleto
Oh, the mental image of 'a cheeky little rotate' 😁
I love your cheeky humor lol...
Thanks!
@@SheffieldMadePlants ❤️
I got an idea for a video, nurturing almost dead plants back to live.
the weight op the pot is my indicator for moist
i find the moisture meter isn't always very reliable (i think depending on soil mix).. even though I probe different spots of the pot.
After some time I also go after pot weight and I also keep track of when I watered every plant in a spreadsheet :D
Snake plants also like to be rootbound.
Recently purchased some leaf cleaning tongs, they cost £20 but worth it!
Very amusing👍😁
Nice video, very educational. I know plants drink ever so slightly less water in the winter, but I decided to decrease the watering of my main avocado tree by nearly 10 TIMES! It usually gets watered about 5-6 days, depending on the air in my room ,temperature, etc. Sometimes every 7 days. But this time I didn't water my tree for 46 DAYS. Yeah, I counted the days. The pot has never been so light, the soil was bone dry, until I went deep, where it was somewhat damp, in some areas, but not moist, let alone waterlogged. You may ask why did I torture my tree like this? Well, first, I didn't torture. And second, it was all part of my plant, to try and eliminate that root rot, despite the huge pot, despite the tiny holes, despite the poor draining soil, despite the you name it. I tested the new soil on my new avocado tree, it immediately got root rot. So, my tree is still staying in that pot. This tree used to bounce back from MILD root rot after being underwatered, but this time, the root rot is severe. I hope my plan worked.
By the way, I trimmed off the entire stem of my new potted avocado tree. :D
Some planty friends warned me that the moisture meters are renowned to give wrong readings, I’d love to hear from other users!
You can also use a little bamboo skewer and if it pulls up out of the dirt and doesn't feel wet or doesn't have dirt sticking to it then the soils dry and they need water. I haven't had too much trouble with the meter but some plants do want to get more dry than others and the meter sometimes reads a tiny bit wetter than I think it actually is? If it is wrong though it's probably only by a small amount unless you have a super broken meter in my experience anyway!
My meter reads dry dry dry until I push it down to the bottom half of the pot then it’s in the moist zone sometimes wet if it hasn’t been to long between watering, BUT most of my plants are in smaller containers no monsterea’s live here. Soil and perlite here.
Blessings 💚💜
It depends on soil type. If you have a super chunky aroid mix it gives weird readings sometimes because of the moisture pockets. I wouldn't use it for that. But normal soil types should be pretty accurate. I've never had issues with non chunky mixes with the specific meter he recommends. I can't speak for any others.
"Check every seventh day to keep the plant doctor away!"
I have found my moisture meter less reliable than my fingers. In chunky soil it reads dry when my fingers, and the weight of the pot tell me there's still plenty of moisture in the soil.
Fair enough 👍

My friend, have a good relationship 😊
Thanks for visiting
I use liqui-dirt every time I water. My babies have been doing FANTASTIC!!! Have you tried that one?
I’ve not yet
I have three meters. I'm prepared.
4:03 Did this plant have a stunt double or was Mrs Sheffield lying on the floor, ready to catch? 😅
Haha i wish!
I was thinking about the same 😂
Sounds like you need an air cleaner in your home. I use one from honeywell that has a true HEPA filter and a foam pre filter. It really works well to clean the air around my plants so they don't get dusty nearly as fast. Great on my lungs too 🙂
Thanks for the tip!
Hi! Can you please make a video about Dieffenbachia’s (Dumb Cane’s) health guide and ways to propagate it? 🤩
5:09 Let rain wash your plants 🌧️🌧️🌧️
Bad news the cat knocked the moisture meter on the floor. Booo! Now it's broken.
Good news is, I've sent off for another one.... its the way to perfect plants...❤❤❤❤
Bahaaa love yur videos lol 😅😊
Thanks!
I love your videos and your humor 😂
Do you have experience with leaf fertilizer? I would love a video about that.
Thanks! Never tried it
Absolutely loving these videos, so informative! Understand that plants don't like sitting on windowsills where radiators are placed, but what to do if all your windows that get sun have radiators under them? Is there something I can do to protect my plants?
Not sure. In summer it’s no problem but maybe you need to keep them away in winter
Yeah, fingers aren't long enough to check where the roots are. The soil could be dry at the top and wet where the roots are. Just wondered if you have baby sun roses in your country.
Not sure to be honest
fantastic indoor plant
Alacahias are a problem for me as well. I put my plants outdoors in the summer and they love it, do very well. Bringing them back in is tricky. I recently split a couple, and they are dying out. It is so disappointing! Think I might be over-watering too. Any ideas? Your plants all look so healthy.
Not sure. Might be the change they don't like. Is the soil wet?
BUY THE MOISTURE METER IT WILL CHANGE THE GAME ❤❤❤
Watering. I had 24 different prayer plants. Had. Calatheas, Ctenanthes, Stromanthes and Marantas. After top watering forever I thought I should try bottom watering for them. BIG MISTAKE. After 2 weeks of this . 6 of my Calatheas came down with fungul issues. Been battling trying to fix them since. My white fusion which was perfect got smashed badly ! Fungul then thrips because it was sick. It now has 1 leaf left . I don't think it will survive. So back to top watering for me. Only time I will bottom water now is my african violets. It really doesn't work for me or my Calatheas. 😢
❤❤❤
Do you have a video regarding Grow-lights? I have very good light in my apartment but my monstera almost died this winter - and the Cactus that I brought in from my terrace in October have all died. Even though I am in a South-West exposure, it was not enough for the beautiful cactus that I ruined. Do - perhaps a grow light or two? Are there wattages, I should look for? Grow lights are for 24 hours, correct? Do you recommend any particular brand? Are they expensive to operate 24/7? I also use humidifiers. My landlard sent up so much heat that I cannot control, that me and all my plants got 'dry eye' from this awful heat. ! Thank you for having all this advice come across as fun and in your good nature. Any help is appreciated. I live ion NJ - Thank you. Nancy Marano .
I’ve got a link to Sansi in the description. They’re the ones I use and are great. They’ve got a 36w bulb that is powerful or those clip on lights that are versatile. Only have it on max 16 hours. Plants need a period of dark for best health
Hello, I just have this new plant and there’s no video on the channel about it. It’s like this bonsai tree and I really want you to make a video about it please please please and thank you if you say yes.
Sorry I don’t have any bonsai so can’t make a video about them
lmao, straight to the bin :,D
I have heard soil meters are a joke
How do I know what grow light wattage to grab?
A 10w bulb will be good for a couple of plants under it. A 36w will be better if you need to cover a larger area
