Hi, yes, in the beginning of my plant journey many years ago! And even now, in my excitement getting a new plant, I want to take care of it so badly, I've ended up setting it back or completely losing it. Thank you for the tips and they are a great reminder for me. Happy Growing.
Thank you for providing such valuable information. I recently purchased several plants and was curious as to how soon I would need to repot them. Well, now that I’ve watched your video I have a better understanding. I will leave them for as long as necessary. As long as they are thriving, they will be just fine.
For me, depends where u get ur plants and even if u knew but it depends on the plants needs and conditions. One example I've been buying from a reliable nursery but when I got my zz raven and Hoya krimson queen they came in pure peat soil and the raven was just watered as it was heavy. I transferred them to fast draining soil and if I didn't do it for raven, it would probably die now coz the roots/potato rhizomes were mushy, I cleaned them right away, dried and covered with cinnamon then after few days drying potted them. That plant looks healthy & normal when it was delivered but inside had started to root rot
I’m not at all a good gardener …. And it is wonderful to find someone with your knowledge…. I’ve just repotted my rubber plant three days ago …. I really hope I haven’t killed it! Having listened to you at least I won’t make the mistake of overwatering, but I now have a horrible feeling that I have picked too large of a pot! I had never properly understood why a lot of water was bad for a plant ….but now I do! Thank you! Living in Australia I will need to follow your advice with a 6 month delay!!😊
So glad you found us helpful! As long as we are mindful of how much we water and try to water near the root ball the plant should be fine - I hope your plant does well going forward!
Growing up, my mom said imagine being a root living in the dark and then being yanked out in broad daylight. It'd be a shock. So I always repot in a dark environment. Good advise in video though.
This is very helpful thank you, i have this plant for 2 years now and just bought a bigger pot. It stinks when i lift up the pot means it has root rot, your points are noted.
Very well explained so interesting and intelligent this topic you choose to cover is so good. You did a great job teaching me and others plant care it's very positive thank you so much.
Thank you very much for the tips on repotting and watering. I always thought repotting into a larger pot would give the plants more space to grow. But unfortunately quite often the plant dies and on checking the roots I fond that the roots have not spread out and have remained confined to the original pot size and the roots have rotted. Also now I realized that I have been over watering because of the size of the pot. Your video has been very helpful and going forward I think I will not be killing any of my plants 😅
I have ADHD and get distracted easily but I think the music was soothing, but I can see how it can be distracting. Regardless of that, thank you for the informative video, now I know why my poor store-bought plant wasn't able to recover for months (I committed the first 3 mistakes)
Thank you... That was very helpful... I was having success but the last few plants are now showing death .. I did take a few months before repotting and thought I did the right size up .. but the spider plants just started dying... Thanks for the tips
Great video! But please please please, get rid of the music in the background. Not only it's distracting, but worse, it makes it really hard to hear what you say (and anyway, we don't need music, it's totally useless, we need to hear you).
I agree loved the video! However I am going to take this tip as well with my Channel. I almost always have music in the background but I will be more cautious of this.
Very good video. Lots of positive information. I do wish you had stressed using a moisture meter. It takes the guess work out of when to water your plant. A meter saved my plant’s life when I first got it. We tend to over water them thinking we are caring for them. I agree the back ground music is too loud and distracting. You really don’t need music at all. Your voice is soft and soothing and gets over run by the music. Next video try not using music at all.

Root rot is NOT caused by having a pot that is too big. It's cause by not having your soil mixture correct and the roots not getting enough oxygen. All in door plants need a well draining soil and to be in a pot with many holes in the bottom and sides of the pot SO water can't stand at the roots. Only 30% of my mixture is actual soil. When my soil dries out I fully water the entire pot through, let it drain out, and then also bottom water in the clay saucer for about 20 minutes and then drain out the saucer. IF you don't fully water the pot until it drains through atleast every other month salt build up from your fertilizer is going to damage your roots. Plants rely on water more the fertilizer as fertilizer doesn't make your plants thrive is the nutrients in the fertilizer that enables better uptake of water so that the entire plant from root, stem, all the way up to the leaves receive excellent transport of water...

I started an avocado plant from the pit by the tooth pick in a jar of water trick. It grew real well and put out a nice set of leaves and decided to try to pot it in soil because the pit began looking like it was trying to rot. I still planted it only to the point where the water reached on the pit, leaving the top of the seed about 1/3 above the soil line. It had nice roots but ever since I planted it I’ve been losing 1 leaf at a time starting from the lower leaves. I only have 2 leaves left. Help!
Hi Mike, sometimes moving the roots from water to soil could cause plants to struggle. If you notice that the plants are losing leaves, I recommend taking it out of the current soil and check the roots. If the root has rotted (black and mushy) I would remove the rotted part, clean the and spray the rest with hydrogen peroxide before potting it in the new soil. Make sure your planter has drainage holes and water only when the soil is dry! Hope that helps!
So I switched mine to a new pot.. and I think some roots got damaged when I was untangling.. I did not let the roots dry off before repotting again now her leaves are all brown on the tips. What do I do now?
When you say sanitize the roots before repotting, should we spray them with a hydrogen peroxide water mix? Is it okay to just spray that on all the roots?
Thank you for the question! Yes! If the roots have rotted (mushy, black parts) then I would cut the rotted roots and spray them with a mixture of 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 4 parts water. Let it dry and then repot
I mean this as constructive criticism but the audio seems off here, the vocals are way too quiet in relation to the background music. Great info though!

You know all the videos I have seen make this gardening thing seem so easy. But after spending so much money over the years just to have plants die I am slowly losing interest. The marigold and lavender I just repotted last week I think drown from the va rain. Last spring/summer too much heat. Now you saying I could be putting the plants in too big of a pot. 😢 too stressful I did not inherit my mom's green thumb.
Aww I’m sorry to hear this! One thing I know for sure is, like everything, having a green thumb is something you acquire overtime ☺️ I’ve killed more plants than I can count, and each time I did, I learn different ways on how not to kill them. I hope this helps!
Please don't give up, many of us have also lost a lot of plants. I would suggest that that you start with easy plants. Like Pothos, ZZ, certain Philodendrons and certain Hoyas.
Thank you for taking the time to leave the comment! What is root rot and how do you remedy that? Do you have a video on that topic?
Hi! We have a video on how to prevent root rot! 7 ways to prevent root rot
ua-cam.com/video/MDwh6SEW-oc/v-deo.html
Root rot is NOT caused by having a pot that is too big. It's cause by not having your soil mixture correct and the roots not getting enough oxygen. All in door plants need a well draining soil and to be in a pot with many holes in the bottom and sides of the pot SO water can't stand at the roots. Only 30% of my mixture is actual soil. The rest is orchid bark cut into different size pieces, charcoal, perlite, and in some cases Leca or Lechuza Pon.
I've had even gritty cactus soil hold too much water for too long when the plant is overpotted.
As a college student I have to take my plants back and forth when there’s no one to tend to them for a long time. The climate back home is too different being it’s the valley. However, it’s a 3 hour car ride and it’s 10 degrees cooler with a breeze.
Fantastic advice

Hi Mike, sometimes moving the roots from water to soil could cause plants to struggle. If you notice that the plants are losing leaves, I recommend taking it out of the current soil and check the roots. If the root has rotted (black and mushy) I would remove the rotted part, clean the and spray the rest with hydrogen peroxide before potting it in the new soil. Make sure your planter has drainage holes and water only when the soil is dry! Hope that helps!

I need your love. 😅
You can do it! 😀
Yes it does help thank you very much.
Please don't give up, many of us have also lost a lot of plants. I would suggest that that you start with easy plants. Like Pothos, ZZ, certain Philodendrons and certain Hoyas.
💚
I will not watch videos with background music..so annoying. What is the reason for it????
Thank you for taking the time to leave the comment! The reason for it is that I didn't know any better 😅 It's awkward for me to just listen to myself so I added the background music hoping it would be better. Lesson learned tho, I have been removing the background music in my newer videos. I hope you'd give them a chance.
The music is nice but it's drowning you out.
Thank you for the feedback! We have listened to the comment and have been lowering the music levels in our other videos. Give us another chance when you can!
@@PlantCornerNYC Oh, I will. The content is interesting!

Get rid of the unnecessary music

Can you make a video without music?
Truly Helpful info but very loud, irritating music made listening stressful. Couldn’t finish. Sorry.

Hi Kandi, totally understand! We have improved since so I hope you'd give us another chance!
I would like your video better if it didn't have the music. I can't hear you well.
