My musical roots lie with Lee Konitz, Lennie Tristano, Warne Marsh, Hindemith, Bach, Schoenberg. Bird too. But I first heard Kenny Wheeler with Azimuth. That floored me. Only Norma’s left. But I bought up all the KW recordings I could lay my hands on. Last saw him on the Angel Song tour with Lee. A dream come true for me, to see them together.
Anytime you see Peter Erskine behind the drums in an ensemble such as this, you know you're in for the kind of flawless and exciting jazz drumming from which so many legends, particularly ECM legends, are made!
Peter is a great drummer indeed - he wouldn't have worked for Stan Kenton or Weather Report otherwise! That said, he came to ECM later than his fellow bandmates here, and their legends were already made, by themselves!
Nobody ever mentions it because to the vast majority of folks it's invisible but Kenny always colors his melodies with the most advanced unconventional chord changes so to solo on this tune you must be on top of these beyond standard harmonies.
Kenny Wheeler your missed love your talent and love that tone man he,s one of the greats a vision of you jamming in the spirit with all the jazz great that have gone from this earth .
Your listening to Hotel Le Hot by the great Kenny Wheeler. My brother Kevin got me into fantastic ECM and Kenny wheeler 30 plus years ago. Amazing changes in this song. You can still get this cd on ECM records called The widow in the window. ............ Rob Tullius..........
Watching these fantastic musicians live makes me realise how much ecm's production values actually mutes a lot of the excitement - the albums are really good but if you see the concerts first, they can be a little bit ... disappointing? It's terrific when musicians of this calibre are let off the leash!
Complete garbage, I love Kenny But that's it thios is rock jazz at its best skating solos and tacky all the way. Can't wait to put on some Bill Evans and end this nightmare !!

This is such great stuff... it's such open ended music and could just go on forever.

I've learned so much from KW compositions. This is one of my favorite tunes of all time. KW's great as usual, but J. Taylor's comping is just amazing!
These people are all too amazing. God.
Hotel Le Hot One of my all time favorite blasting out of this galaxy Kenny Wheeler tunes.......Rob Tullius
Amazing music and playing.
Abercrombie and Wheeler are such amazing improvisers and composers, I really enjoyed this video :)
More? This is so excellent, KW, what an incredibly beautiful and individual player, not to mention strong and fluent, very inspirational.

Palle Danielsson is a great bass player. i will see kenny Wheeler with Dave Holland at the Jazz Standard in New york on October 26.
Correct me if I'm wrong: "Hotel Le Hot" from "Window In The Window"
Unreal. Thanks for posting! More?
it's actually from much earlier - check out the BBC special on Kenny where a big band is playing it in the 1970s
@@scottr.looney1774 Isn't that an incredible broadcast! :)
Giants so in my wheel house well Kenny and Wayne designed that Wheel House.

This is great. The album version is good but this live version has so much energy.
Palle Danielsson filling in for Dave Holland who played on the original track in 1990.

High Art.
are they playing 2:3 in that samba section?
Samba has no clave
correct!
at 1:28...his trademark
@blackball2006 If you really meant what I understood from your comment, I must say I'm quite disturbed
qualcuno ha capito la struttura di questo brano?????? Io ci ho provato. Ditemi la vostra.....
Mean comparison. Listen to Gateway - Abercrombie. Different guitarists.
Sasha king crimson ₪₪₪₪
Kenny Wheeler is playing Flugelhorn, not Trumpet...
This is the shit. But where's John Taylor's solo?1
mahhn..
This is the shit.
En mi opinión es una falta de respeto cortar el tema.
Something really bothers me about the piano player
that you can't play like him?
Autodidactus Plays JRPGs Interesting. Can you elaborate? He has also passed now.
Pak Ombak how do you know how she plays? I don't. I don't know how you play either.
mere guess work my friend

I think you are very wrong. You have some limitation to understand jazz.
Abercrombie=weak. Never kills it. It's bad when Pat Metheny out-mans you.
RiP Kenny Wheeler...
