@@yeswe_buy_houses1805 That's because due to YT's monetization rules, only videos that are 5+ minutes long can be monetized. So, something that could take 30 sec or a min to explain and show, we see a 6 min vid on because the channel needs it to be relatively longer to be able to make money from it. Otherwise, YT can't get "ad money" from it.
UA-cam’s purpose initially was to put YOU front and center. Not necessarily tutorials but a gathering place for all things video that focused on an average person.
ever since google's acquisition of youtube the only purpose is to serve ads and collect your data for google (to serve you more ads) anything else is a lie.
Yesterday, for the first time in my 80 year old life, I was faced with this issue in a seldom-used toilet. I didn't tell the internet about it by searching for anything. Today YT sends me this. Spooky. You opened the video by getting right into the problem. That was refreshing!
Exact same thing happened to me.. just yesterday was cleaning the toilet and wondering what to do about that black stuff along the inside, didn't look anything up online and this morning here it is! YT knows! Thank you Papa Joe!
Straight to the point, thank you! No need of a video being ten minutes and one second long explaining the history of toilets and how mold is formed. Thanks!
First time homeowner, I always figured it was some sort of sediment build-up from having hard water. Good to know that 1. It isn't, and 2. It's easily fixed. Great video!
Actually, you’re not wrong… the hard water deposits make it even easier for mold to “root” in. But the vinegar helps break down those deposits as well. 👍🏻
So glad I found this video. I thought the very same thing and therefore was clueless as to how to break it off the bowl. Need to go get me some vinegar now. 👏🙌
@@DarkAraque naw lol I'm well aged ...just never seen it blacken up under the rim like that in all my years. Maybe where I live now the water is different and caused it 🤷🏾♀️
Using funnel, I add vinegar water into my Little Giant Condensate pump after it has just run, not too much because good to let it sit awhile; furnace will soon produce enough condensate for pump to turn on and evacuate the vinegar water.
Another reason is that if there is mold in the water part… more likely than not… a member of the family has “unknown” diabetes!! Mold loves sugar! THIS IS A FACT!! For months I hadn’t been feeling good but thought things weren’t so bad. In the meantime, one of our three bathroom toilets kept getting mold down in the water when peeing.. only in the master bathroom. I even called the city thinking they might know… and time kept going on by! Then I got very sick and went to the hospital knowing something had to be really wrong for as sick as I got. I had diabetes and my sugar/glucose level was 649… normal should be from 70-120. I was still wandering about the toilet problem I couldn’t solve! So I went researching, researching and researching!! And low and behold… I found my connection! Stating that undiagnosed and/or uncontrolled diabetes creates my said toilet problem, exactly! Stating “mold love’s sugar” (verbatim)!! I GOT MY DIABETES UNDER CONTROL AND HAVE NOT HAD MOLD IN MY TOILET SINCE!! It has been five months and still no mold… in my toilet water!! Yes, we all can learn something new everyday!! Pass this on! Blessings-
No kidding! I scrub around the rim a few times a week and it comes back so fast! I’ll be doing this today and I’m excited that it seems like it’s gonna save me a lot of work!
I did the same thing but I soaked paper towel in clr put it under the rim and left it all night....then used vinegar the same way as video.....Once a month I do the vinegar and I have never seen it come back in over 2 years....baking soda and vinegar for most of my cleaning...even jewelry
I got a Toto turbo flush toilet, and realize quickly afterwards that it was the best damn toilet I ever had. It has no tiny, downspout holes and keeps itself relatively clean, has two angled turbo flow holes that point the water sideways to propagate a better swirl. It’s absolutely the perfect , and I rarely have to clean it.
So much for Weatern technology. Finding a workaround for a problem that should have long ago designed out of existence. Bravo. Buy more Toto toilets and other manufacturers may eventually figure it out. Sadly it is a very slow recognition cycle and it may not be cost effective for them to design and build a better mouse trap. If Toto us already the best mouse trap, go directed to that product and let your choice be your money and vote.
@@WilliamMurphy-uv9pm The problem with "Building a better mouse trap" is that once the "Benevolent" government finds out then they tax this "Better Mousetrap" out of existence. I replaced my leaking toilet with a Toto toilet and have never seen mould since! You gotta love Japanese toilets. It’s worth visiting Japan to see what they can do, like turning on a heated seat when you come home on a cold day! And even the public toilets are sparkling clean.
Flush it, clean it, dry it. Tape off the whole area and pour CLEANING VINEGAR in the overflow tube until it’s full. Let it set over night. Cleaning vinegar is 75% and not fit for human consumption. Trust me, it works. It’s also great for weeds in the yard.
Originally from Long Island NY, 22 yrs living in Florida now has been a constant battle with mold. It took me at least 6 months researching, to finally find out that mold grows roots into wood and natural organic things. I kept cleaning and it kept coming back. I washed my walls and everything with bleach. Sprayed my air conditioner with bleach, nothing worked, it just grew back. Finally I learned about the growing roots and finally that vinegar kills mold. I also have a uvc light bulb and a dehumidifier now. I have this exact problem with my toilet also ! I’ve been in this same apartment for 19 years now and had the whole back of the toilet tank black with mold 3 times. I’ve scrubbed it out 3 times , last time with oxiclean. I was thinking about the vinegar but didn’t know how to remedy the rim. Finally I asked a plumber and he said “pour whatever in the overflow pipe.” I haven’t done it yet, but I’m so happy to see confirmation that this is what to do ! Even the comments answered my questions about vinegar won’t rot the toilet parts because vinegar comes in plastic. I did find “Cleaning Vinegar” at Walmart for 2.39 a half gallon so I’ve bought a few to use for this. (It warns don’t breathe the fumes, it’s not edible vinegar). Sheesh ! You need an education about mold, it’s been so difficult to find out this information… Blessings all ! Thank you so much for this video!
Same problem here. This is great to know. I get it in the toilet, kitchen sink, on the fridge door. I'm always scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing. What I painted my tush.
You would think that growing up in Florida we would get an education about mold, and how to deal with it in our humid climate but NOPE! I’m right here researching with you. 😅
Fellow Floridian here. It's very humid here, but you really should not be getting mold on the walls inside your house. Your AC should be removing the humidity. I'd have a professional check your AC and I'd call a mold cleaning professional. You will need a professional to remove it completely, and they'll also be able to tell you where it's coming from. You should also be getting your AC cleaned too every once in a while to prevent mold and debris being distributed through the vents (more than just spraying with bleach). If it's not the AC, your house may have had flood damage before you got it, some water leaks, or insulation problems. I would look at a dehumidifier in the meantime, one with a drain and not a tank so you don't have to empty it multiple times a day. To be clear: mold outside is definitely a Florida thing, but inside is a problem with the house itself. It can cause so many health problems, and I wish you luck in getting it taken care of.
I’m convinced my phones reading my mind now. I was just thinking about this recurring mold in my toilet and wondering how to solve the problem. I haven’t spoken it aloud to anyone and now I get recommended this video!

I've often used peroxide alternating with vinegar. As the peroxide foams in contact with the mold. And vinegar was cheaper and reduces lime deposits. I do appreciate that you didn't ramble as many vloggers tend to.
Never knew it was mold. Had given up on the problem, Inspite the fact that the toilet is pretty new. Always thought is was hard water deposit. Thank you!!!!
Heads up. My landladies son moved in and I began to see little stalactites of mold under the rim. It turned out he had undiagnosed diabetes and the high level of sugar in his urine was causing it. The jerk never cleaned the bathroom either.
Brand new 5 bed, 3 bath with this issue in all 3 toilets since purchase in 21. You've done a great service to myself and countless others. Truly appreciated.
I can't imagine having my sacred private parts that close to mold multiple times a day like that! This is disturbing because I've seen people's toilets like this & they do not even know what it is. If I ever see it again, I'll be sure to let them know. So, glad that his hack worked for others!!
This worked for me perfectly! Poured vinegar down three different times - first time I did it, I just poured maybe a pint in, let it sit for an hour, cleaned the bowl. It came back again, but to a much lesser degree. Next day poured some more down, let it sit for the hour again, nothing came back. Did it a 3rd time for good measure - all mold gone and the bowl has remained streakless. Thanks very much for this!
This video mysteriously popped up in my feed. I have been battling this in one toilet in my townhouse for years. Thanks for your straight to the point, no bs video.
I put a small chlorine swimming pool tablet in my tank and it stays clean, no scrubbing. When it dissolves, which in the toilet tank takes months I put a new one in there. Constantly clean toilet.

I would like to thank you. Up until last month, I had this type of toilet for nearly a decade. Three weeks ago, I had it replaced for a different kind after the stains had finally broken me. Now that I've seen this video, I'm going to lie awake thinking about the four hundred dollars I could have saved.
Thank you for such an easy tutorial. I noticed mold in my toilet bowl today, and not having had this problem in apartments ive previously lived in, I had no idea why it was happening.
I live in a hot area and the water in the tank gets warm and really smells. I tried everything, once I figured out where that terrible smell was coming from. So far the only thing I found to really clean it is Oxiclean washing machine cleaner with odor blasters. It says use it in hot water so I put half packet in a mason jar with hot water and dissolve it first.
I literally just got done scrubbing the mildew from my toilet bowl yesterday. I had never noticed it before, because you can’t see it from within the bathroom, only from a distance when walking by. It’s so high up under the rim, that you have to be at a distance and crouching down slightly to notice it. I left the bathroom door open (I usually don’t), and I noticed it while walking to the kitchen. I was horrified. What a coincidence that this video should show up in my recommendations when I didn’t even google anything about it. Sometimes I think my google home listens to my conversations. 😏
It’s amazing how many people have said the same thing about the phones listening. And also quite a few that said the phones must be reading their minds, because they never spoke to anyone about it or looked anything up.
Yeah it’s creepy as hell. I constantly get recommendations for things I was THINKING about but didn’t say a word about and I certainly didn’t search for it or anything like that.
Living in Florida, I find this to be a common problem. Even my sink faucets have this problem and my shower. So, I clean the black mold periodically from the jets. But this is a simple fix that I didn't realize started from the inside. Thanks for the knowledge. I will handle it now and be rid of the toilet mold!
Try out the high concentrated vinegar. Lowe's, Home Depot and likely other hardware stores will have it. It's about 30% compared to regular vinegar which is less than 5%.
People seeing this should be aware it's *really* strong. Wear gloves and even a respirator with a filter. Don't expect to use the room for a couple days if it doesn't have a window. But indeed, it's 100x as effective as eating vinegar.
The concentration of vinegar available in stores: 3% food grade, 5% household cleaning. The maximum concentration is approximately 30% and it's called acetic acid and it is not available for sale to the general public. It can do a lot of harm when inhaling fumes or to the skin when in contact. Somebody mentioned using 30% strength and I think that person received it from somebody who is supplying a business with chemicals on a regular basis.
Thanks Joe! I've seen a similar approach where users first empty the bowl, dry the under-rim real well, and then tape off the holes. They fill the center pipe as you did but this time the vinegar sits in the rim channel for a while. They complete the process as you described. Thanks again!
I agree with the other comments expressing appreciation for your direct and CONCISE approach to this problem. Will go do this with both my bathrooms. Thanks!
My toilet recently started doing this. It was driving me crazy because I did not understand why it was happening. I clean the toilet often. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this information. I started noticing this under the toilt rim not after my toilet was replaced with a new. Despite cleaning and cleaners I couldn't get rid of it. Unsightly mess. I going to give this a try next week. 😊 If youtube would put more useful info on instead of garbage shorts and ridiculous nonsense it would be like it used to be. 2:02
Oh wow, you just made my day. I live in a 20-year-old apartment building and this has been happening since we moved in. Know why there are rust stains coming out, too? I bet you do. I think it's the pipes, but I thought the mold was the pipes, too.
Some water is “harder” (has more minerals) than others. Of the various minerals commonly found in water, iron is one of them… your water has a relatively high iron content, that’s why you’re the rust stains. It’s perfectly normal, and vinegar can help you to get rid of them as well.
To make it even more effective, first drain and clean the toilet bowl and tank with Dawn dish detergent then dry and put duct tape around the jet inner circle. Pour vinegar into the hole in the rear tank. Let it set for a few hours then remove the duct tape and refill the rear tank with water. This longer method kills the mold and removes the white calcium scale.
Just use a spray bottle of vinegar on the black stuff under the rim in the bowl. No scrubbing needed. Vinegar is good in the garden too. Watch those videos.
An amazing tip!!! It doesn't happen in my place but I work in people's houses as a house manager and sometimes I need to refresh the toilets, in between the cleaners visits. This happens especially in less used bathrooms, as the guest rooms or the basement toilets. Thank you!
I’m really curious-how large are the homes you’re working in? How often are you at the same home? I clean middle to upper middle class homes, but a house manager position sounds like a true luxury service! I want to hear all about it 😂
I have been using pumice stones on this to get it removed. All I needed was vinegar!?!? Thank you for saving my arthritic hands from unnecessary scrubbing. Being 50 sucks sometimes but I love that I'm still capable of learning.
@@3ch1dna07 Yes. Or you can put it in a squirt bottle and spray it directly on the affected areas. Additionally, I would pour some in the bowl, then let it sit overnight to combat stains that develop inside the bowl itself. EDIT: Word of caution. Do not forget to flush before use! Ammonia and bleach do NOT mix without deadly consequences.
I agree vinegar is needed but there's a good chance the toilet seal is leaking... or it was leaking. Most toilets have a flapper but this design is different. There's an flat seal at the bottom of the black plastic which might need to be replaced. Also it appears the water level level is too high... not sure. If it was too high it would be spilling over into the bowl, causing constant wetness and mold. After the maintenance issues are fixed, vinegar can be used.
2 minutes of NOT wasting my time. lol Thank you. I saw this on the toilet the other day and was thinking damnit, I got to get that cleaned. Thankfully I have some vinegar.
THANK YOUUUUU! The UA-cam algorithm finally decided to help by showing me this even though I've never thought to look it up. I was wondering how to stop the mold from coming back
Thanks for sharing good info! (Not a lot of people know that vinegar is a more effective disinfectant than bleach. I had mold behind bathroom wallpaper I removed and research said never ever treat black mold with bleach, but use vinegar instead.)
I’ve heard a lot of people say that, but only bleach will clean the mold on the bottom of my shower curtain liner. I tried using vinegar the last time I washed it and it did not come clean. Rewashed with a splash of bleach in the washing machine and it came out like new
@@christinemmac Oh I agree! Some things won't go away with anything but bleach, but I think of vinegar just as a disinfectant, and killer of nasty things!
Oh man, when I bought my house the toilet had this issue. I tried vinegar, bleach, everything. I think it had been sitting like that for months. I finally got a new one. I offered the moldy one to anyone that may need it and i felt bad that i didnt think they'd be able to fix it but they were just thrilled to get a toilet. I hope they got it fixed!
I am surprised to discover that someone is so broke that they can't afford a CLEAN toilet, but somehow they have everything they need to bring an old moldy toilet into their lives. My guess is they regret ever meeting you.
I feel like this is the only tip from UA-cam I've tried that actually worked 😂 I did it about a month ago, and it hasn't come back. We had that issue with that toilet forEVER. Thanks!
Thank you so very much. I know its there before I see it when I start sneezing in the middle of the night. Sneezing leads to wheezing and a runny nose. Then I'm wide awake. I'll add this to my weekly routine. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video. I recently purchased an device on Amazon made by Fluidmaster that uses a bleach pellet cartridge. Each time you flush water flows through the bleach pellets and then into the overflow tube and circulates through the holes like you show. The bleach never gets into the tank, which can detroy the plumbing parts. Very good system, but you do need to replace the bleach pellet cartridge. Replacement is based on usage. I have one main toilet that needs a new cartridge about every 60 days. Another I have lasts about 120 days. Just an option.
The problem… Bleach is somewhat effective at killing mold on non-porous “glazed” surfaces. But the internal rim cavity of a toilet is not glazed and is very porous, so vinegar is far more effective, as it’s able to kill mold deep down to the roots. As soon as you stop with the bleach pellets, it will come right back, which keeps you buying the pellets.
@@papajoeknows8355 Hi, I have used bleach pucks somewhat works, however they deteriorate rubber flapper over time. What would you recommend for pink mold around Tub Drain?

I recently started having this in my toilet bowl. I put 1 cup of citric acid in the tank. Waited 1-2 hours and refilled bowl. Then, I used Lysol liquid toilet bowl cleaner that you squirt under the rim. The mold was loose and came off without having to scrub. Now it’s clean and I will put vinegar in the middle section to kill any residual mold. Thanks for the information. I really appreciate good cleaning tips.
Mold in toilet can be a sign of particle build up . Most likely well water. You can install on the in line a particular filter. This cleaning with vinegar is a great tip. Seen one they said bleach. I say No for it can damage your seal . Great video
That dishwasher pod ideas interesting. I use a mesh bag from fruit and place a bar of soap inside tank suspended with knotted bag. Knot holds bar near waterline. The resulting soapy water keeps the tank and bowl fairly clean. You still need to wash/ scrub regularly but it's clean, fragrant.
The real cause is that some of the unethical toilet manufacturers did not coat the whole toilet in porcelain. Fungus, bacteria, and mold can grow in those uncoated areas.
Honestly there’s no way for them to glaze the inside of the rim cavity. Here’s a vid on how toilets are made… ua-cam.com/video/vmnHMv4Zc8Y/v-deo.htmlsi=n4sZaU-gOEtb5h9l
Thank you so much for this. My mother and I have this issue on our toilets and we're always thought it was deposits in the water and so have treated it that way. It always comes back. You've now helped two different households with this video. Thank you again!
I love cleaning with vinegar. It works well to mop the floor, diluted with a little warm water, and works fantastically to clean the tub/shower floor, when poured over baking soda. It's fairy healthy/non-toxic for the environment and our home, works, is readily available, and pretty cheap.
@@lamspam I don't mind the smell of vinegar. When I was in school I took photo classes. Developer chemical smells like vinegar so it just reminds me of a darkroom.
Because of health issues i have used vinegar for cleaning dir many years. I find it works really well and certainly less expensive. For less number of items to buy also.
When I bought my 1970’s house in 1984, it still had the original toilets and there was never a problem. In 1989 we remodeled the bathroom and out in the Kohler $400 throne sized toilet. Ten years later the mold problem began under the rim like you show. Hey vinegar is cheap. I will get back here and let you know how it turned out. One gallon should take care of up stairs and down stairs toilets. Wish me luck with the muck.
Improve on this, by Spraying it around the jet ring inner lip. You can improve on that by blocking the Jets with anything to use plugs. This way the vinegar fills the entire feed tube of the jets.
Same problem, and I spent a couple years experimenting (was driving me crazy). What the gentleman doesn’t say is the vinegar will get rid of harness build up that is food for the mold. Some molds will not be killed by vinegar alone, like the orange mold I had. In that case I used a bottle (500ml) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide ( the first aid stuff) pouring it the same place and it killed the mold.
@@kaybeetoyz Yes it is gross! And was a mystery until I found out it was mold and can be different colours. In my ensuite the mold is an orange colour. I keep a clean house so I had to figure it out how/ why it kept coming back( replaced all my toilets too). Apparently the mold spores are very tiny and can stay air borne, yikes. That bugged me so I sourced a hospital grade product that would kill mold. Purchased a hospital grade food safe disinfectant/ cleaner called “Vital Oxide” and a fine atomizer. Now ( every few months) I spray it in the air of the bathroom and on hard surfaces when cleaning the bathroom . No more gross mold! Good luck 🙂
Thank you for going straight to the problem no beating around the bush with the fix just simple educational video no bull crap ! I'll be sure to pick up a gallon of distilled vinegar and try this at home ! 👍👍
Spray some lime scale remover too. That mold clings to the rough surface of lime buildup from hard water minerals. Both lime remover and vinegar or bleach need to be sprayed there directly too. Vinegar will do both functions. Costco has cheap vinegar.
Good idea scale remover, but vinegar does actually break down mineral deposits as well. A way to quickly remove it is with a pumice stone… I should do a video on that. 👍🏻
@@papajoeknows8355 Yes, that is what I said too. Vinegar does both. The problem sometimes is that vinegar rolls down too fast on vertical surfaces whereas the lime scale remover can be foam and cling longer. Tricky business on vertical surfaces. I'm sure the Marine world has good products for that. Your audio is very muffled and low so not easy to hear what you are saying. Try getting a shirt microphone or separate one from the camera.
@@mjremy2605 that’s interesting regarding vertical surfaces… I mix a little Dawn dishwashing liquid with vinegar on shower glass mineral deposits. The dawn helps to suspend the vinegar so it has a chance to loosen the deposits before you lightly scrub. I bet the same would work with the toilet.

This was useful. However, the source of the problem, as you mentioned, is because of how the toilet operates, which I translate into “design flaw”. That is, the toilet’s design allows for leftover water to set in that cavity around the rim, which then allows for easy mold growth. If this is true, then one could only hope that newer or more modern toilets address this issue at the root: by impeding water to collect where it shouldn’t.
The reason water sits in the rim is not only because of it's design, but also because the inside of a porcelain (vitreous china) toilet rim) there is no protective ceramic coating, like there is on the outside. So it is porous and absorbs standing water on the interior. Even if they shaped it differently, they would still need to seal the interior channels somehow.
Thank you so much! My toilet embarrasses me so much and i have depression which has me going through periods of just not cleaning. This is going to help make things easier as I'm trying to fight against the depression. Thank you so much!
Me too. Our outhouse is on logs over the creek. Now that's an automatic flush system provided free by nature. We miss the Sears and Roebucks catalog, it was a free wiping system. Now we're having to buy toilet paper which is costly. RIP Sears and Roebucks, we really miss you!!! Hope this helps someone who has a creek or branch nearby.
thank you papa joe knows. I wasn't taught much about this kind of stuff growing up. here I am as a 35 year old adult figuring this out for the first time ever. appreciate your video!
There is a reason the cleaning products have a nozzle & a slanted shape.. You're supposed to push at least half a bottle into the crevasse up top all around, let it fall down covering everything, close the lid & 30 min later just press the flush button. Still, good to know that the main issue might be present in the water tank. Great video.
The mold isn't in the water tank, it's in the internal rim/reservoir where the water goes before exiting through the jets. The jet holes are small, there is a 0% chance toilet bowl cleaner will enter the jets from the outside and clean the reservoir, regardless of the nozzle and slant on a toilet bowl cleaner bottle. This video was pretty simple but you might wanna watch it again.
yep. used the angled shape toilet cleaner many times for the past 30 days. Even the bleach tablets did not help. Mold still coming back. Finally put white vinegar in the tank today. Before bed time I'll put some in the tube. It's been affecting my health for about a month now.@@emergencyrendevous5472
I use ZEP vinegar. I get it at Lowes. It's in a yellow jug. Two or Three doses with about an hour dwell time and shazam. The toilet even flushes with greater vigor!
Yes, Zep and other cleaning vinegars are slightly more acidic, about 6% relative to about 5% with distilled white vinegar. But I’m not sure that difference warrants it being twice the price. And yes, the reason it improves the flush is that it breaks down the mineral deposits that collect over time and block the jets. 👍🏻
Got a brand new toilet and cleaned it weekly. Then I noticed that if I stood and looked at it at a certain angle I saw this black mold and was horrified. Thanks Papa Joe for showing me how to fix this!!! I have gladly subscribed😊😊
I live in a motel and I see it as a recurring issue I always used bleach and a bit of scrubbing but I didn’t use vinegar. I know vinegar can clean practically anything so thank you for that I appreciate it.
Bleach is mostly effective at killing mold on non-porous “glazed” surfaces. But the internal rim cavity of a toilet, where the mold is flourishing, is not glazed and is very porous, so vinegar is far more effective, as it’s able to kill mold deep down to the roots.
FYI - if it keeps coming back it might be a sign of someone in the house having diabetes. The sugar in their urine feeds the mold. Test everyone's A1C to find out if that's the cause.
I will tell you a secret… mixing baking soda with vinegar neutralizes the acidity of the vinegar, rendering it far less effective. You’re better off using them independently.
I've been using bleach in the water to clean this up...I love the idea of the distilled vinegar, though. It's not toxic (as far as I know) and a far safer product to use. Thank you so much for a much needed "no nonsense" video. You ROCK!

I wonder if the 30% acid vinegar would work any better / faster. I always have that around the house for killing weeds and removing rust. You have to be a little careful with it because it's rather caustic, but it's amazingly effective for those tasks. You can get it at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. So you won't pass out from sticker shock, I'll warn you right up front that it's expensive - about 20 bucks a gallon. But a little goes a long way.
Interesting, I’ve never even heard of it, but I bet it would work faster, as it’s the acidity that makes the vinegar effective. Does sound pretty pricey thought. Thanks for commenting. 👍🏻
@@queenbunnyfoofoo6112 - I thought of that too, and dismissed it. There is plenty of water in the tank to dilute the acid, so it won't attack any of the rubber, plastic, or metal parts. And once it gets into the porcelain bowl, it can't really hurt anything.

Also, wear vinyl or nitrile gloves and eye protection. And try not to breathe it - it burns. That last comment seems to be more important while spraying the vinegar because the sprayer atomizes it.

There may be a mold colony in a wall or roof or under the house and the spores find spots to grow

I thought the dishwasher pod idea was interesting too.
The real cause is that some of the unethical toilet manufacturers did not coat the whole toilet in porcelain. Fungus, bacteria, and mold can grow in those uncoated areas.
Honestly there’s no way for them to glaze the inside of the rim cavity. Here’s a vid on how toilets are made…

It's fairy healthy/non-toxic for the environment and our home, works, is readily available, and pretty cheap.
yeah, vinegar is super effective, yet ppl still buy fancy cleaners lol (it's not the best smelling stuff, I guess)
Wish me luck with the muck.
vinegar is not all that good for ur rubber parts in the tank. i used it in my washer & bout rusted it out.
Improve on this, by Spraying it around the jet ring inner lip. You can improve on that by blocking the Jets with anything to use plugs. This way the vinegar fills the entire feed tube of the jets.
If you block the Jets, then the Eagles will win!

Y’all made me laugh, I needed that.
Not sure how this showed up in my recommendations but so glad it did. Thanks for the tip!
Wow this is a random video that i actually needed 😂
Me too👍🏽👍🏽🥰
Thanks so much. Moved into a new place and couldn’t figure out why this continues to happen so often.
@@papajoeknows8355 Aha! That sounds great. I will try it. Those pesky shower doors are always stained. Dawn is good stuff.

You bet. And also, see the two videos link in the description. 👍🏻
same with me
I have this problem but couldnt even begin to think what was the cause. This video randomly got recommended to me out of nowhere. You're the best
Great explanation and presentation. Love the fact you get right to the point. Continue to post!!
That's why I like using use the ole standard and very dependable outhouse. You don't worry about cleaning the rim.
@@crabtreeshep4969 LMAO, I love it and you are right about the ole Sears catalog.

thank you papa joe knows. I wasn't taught much about this kind of stuff growing up. here I am as a 35 year old adult figuring this out for the first time ever. appreciate your video!
You bet, and don’t feel bad… trust me there are a lot of people way older than you that are just now learning this too.
Wow that I would of never ever even though of 👍
Really dude. Damn. Give me a break
Thank you for the information. This happens in the summer to my toilet. We have so much humidity. Now I know how to solve the problem easily.

Vinegar and Baking Soda once a week. I/2 Gallon of Vinegar and Half of a small box of baking soda. Flush and let sit for an hour and repeat.
No offence but I’ll be danged if I’d spend that much money over a year for vinegar and baking soda to clean a toilet!
You ROCK!

Man's been doing this so long, his arms started growing mold.
The scary thing is how tf does UA-cam know I needed this.
Would the higher acidity damage the toilet parts?
@@queenbunnyfoofoo6112 - I thought of that too, and dismissed it. There is plenty of water in the tank to dilute the acid, so it won't attack any of the rubber, plastic, or metal parts. And once it gets into the porcelain bowl, it can't really hurt anything.
@@David_K_pi I figured it could sit in the tube without problems....I was just concerned about the over flow, because stuff is made so cheap these days. Thanks for the info.
@@queenbunnyfoofoo6112 - Oh definitely! One would certainly want to make sure there is water in the tank to dilute the vinegar. Your concern is valid. But I think it's okay if done properly.
Also, wear vinyl or nitrile gloves and eye protection. And try not to breathe it - it burns. That last comment seems to be more important while spraying the vinegar because the sprayer atomizes it.
But I love this stuff as an environmentally safe weed killer. No carcinogens in the water table. It's especially useful in the gaps between the slabs on the sidewalk and driveway, but not near the lawn.
Thanks for commenting and keeping me on track. 👍😁
