@@yeswe_buy_houses1805 That's because due to YT's monetization rules, only videos that are 5+ minutes long can be monetized. I am yet another person who needed this but didn’t say anything out loud and somehow still got this in my feed. Thank you again for sharing! Saved me a bunch of money not having to call a plumber

Yesterday, for the first time in my 80 year old life, I was faced with this issue in a seldom-used toilet. I didn't tell the internet about it by searching for anything. Today YT sends me this. Spooky. You opened the video by getting right into the problem. That was refreshing!
Exact same thing happened to me.. just yesterday was cleaning the toilet and wondering what to do about that black stuff along the inside, didn't look anything up online and this morning here it is! YT knows! Thank you Papa Joe!
This worked for me perfectly! Poured vinegar down three different times - first time I did it, I just poured maybe a pint in, let it sit for an hour, cleaned the bowl. It came back again, but to a much lesser degree. Next day poured some more down, let it sit for the hour again, nothing came back. Did it a 3rd time for good measure - all mold gone and the bowl has remained streakless. Thanks very much for this!
Straight to the point, thank you! No need of a video being ten minutes and one second long explaining the history of toilets and how mold is formed. Thanks!
I’m convinced my phones reading my mind now. I was just thinking about this recurring mold in my toilet and wondering how to solve the problem. I haven’t spoken it aloud to anyone and now I get recommended this video!
Same here. Have not spoken a word to anyone or searched anything remotely associated and this pops up in my recommended watch list out of the blue. I’m about to throw all internet related items out of my house forever.
@@-in-the-meantime... I quit all social media except UA-cam about 4 years ago as well. I also have Pinterest but I don’t really count that as socia media. Sometimes I think I should just rip off the bandaid and start using a flip phone.

First time homeowner, I always figured it was some sort of sediment build-up from having hard water. Good to know that 1. It isn't, and 2. It's easily fixed. Great video!
Actually, you’re not wrong… the hard water deposits make it even easier for mold to “root” in. But the vinegar helps break down those deposits as well. 👍🏻
So glad I found this video. I thought the very same thing and therefore was clueless as to how to break it off the bowl. Need to go get me some vinegar now. 👏🙌
@@DarkAraque naw lol I'm well aged ...just never seen it blacken up under the rim like that in all my years. Maybe where I live now the water is different and caused it 🤷🏾♀️
I've often used peroxide alternating with vinegar. As the peroxide foams in contact with the mold. And vinegar was cheaper and reduces lime deposits. I do appreciate that you didn't ramble as many vloggers tend to.
I did this, it works great for maintenance but getting all that black mold off needed a little more work, so I used a baking soda paste, which is just adding water to baking soda to the right consistency, and applied it all around the under side of the lip of the toilet, by hand using a rubber glove. Let that sit for a while then soaked an old scrubber sponge (I save all my old grungy kitchen scrubber sponges just for this type of job) with distilled vinegar and it came right off much quicker.
Using funnel, I add vinegar water into my Little Giant Condensate pump after it has just run, not too much because good to let it sit awhile; furnace will soon produce enough condensate for pump to turn on and evacuate the vinegar water.
Another reason is that if there is mold in the water part… more likely than not… a member of the family has “unknown” diabetes!! Mold loves sugar! THIS IS A FACT!! For months I hadn’t been feeling good but thought things weren’t so bad. In the meantime, one of our three bathroom toilets kept getting mold down in the water when peeing.. only in the master bathroom. I even called the city thinking they might know… and time kept going on by! Then I got very sick and went to the hospital knowing something had to be really wrong for as sick as I got. I had diabetes and my sugar/glucose level was 649… normal should be from 70-120. I was still wandering about the toilet problem I couldn’t solve! So I went researching, researching and researching!! And low and behold… I found my connection! Stating that undiagnosed and/or uncontrolled diabetes creates my said toilet problem, exactly! Stating “mold love’s sugar” (verbatim)!! I GOT MY DIABETES UNDER CONTROL AND HAVE NOT HAD MOLD IN MY TOILET SINCE!! It has been five months and still no mold… in my toilet water!! Yes, we all can learn something new everyday!! Pass this on! Blessings-
Thanks for this information. I started noticing this under the toilt rim not after my toilet was replaced with a new. Despite cleaning and cleaners I couldn't get rid of it. Unsightly mess. I going to give this a try next week. 😊 If youtube would put more useful info on instead of garbage shorts and ridiculous nonsense it would be like it used to be. 2:02
No kidding! I scrub around the rim a few times a week and it comes back so fast! I’ll be doing this today and I’m excited that it seems like it’s gonna save me a lot of work!
I did the same thing but I soaked paper towel in clr put it under the rim and left it all night....then used vinegar the same way as video.....Once a month I do the vinegar and I have never seen it come back in over 2 years....baking soda and vinegar for most of my cleaning...even jewelry
Never knew it was mold. Had given up on the problem, Inspite the fact that the toilet is pretty new. Always thought is was hard water deposit. Thank you!!!!
Heads up. My landladies son moved in and I began to see little stalactites of mold under the rim. It turned out he had undiagnosed diabetes and the high level of sugar in his urine was causing it. The jerk never cleaned the bathroom either.
Originally from Long Island NY, 22 yrs living in Florida now has been a constant battle with mold. It took me at least 6 months researching, to finally find out that mold grows roots into wood and natural organic things. I kept cleaning and it kept coming back. I washed my walls and everything with bleach. Sprayed my air conditioner with bleach, nothing worked, it just grew back. Finally I learned about the growing roots and finally that vinegar kills mold. I also have a uvc light bulb and a dehumidifier now. I have this exact problem with my toilet also ! I’ve been in this same apartment for 19 years now and had the whole back of the toilet tank black with mold 3 times. I’ve scrubbed it out 3 times , last time with oxiclean. I was thinking about the vinegar but didn’t know how to remedy the rim. Finally I asked a plumber and he said “pour whatever in the overflow pipe.” I haven’t done it yet, but I’m so happy to see confirmation that this is what to do ! Even the comments answered my questions about vinegar won’t rot the toilet parts because vinegar comes in plastic. I did find “Cleaning Vinegar” at Walmart for 2.39 a half gallon so I’ve bought a few to use for this. (It warns don’t breathe the fumes, it’s not edible vinegar). Sheesh ! You need an education about mold, it’s been so difficult to find out this information… Blessings all ! Thank you so much for this video!
Same problem here. This is great to know. I get it in the toilet, kitchen sink, on the fridge door. I'm always scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing. What I painted my tush.
You would think that growing up in Florida we would get an education about mold, and how to deal with it in our humid climate but NOPE! I’m right here researching with you. 😅
Fellow Floridian here. It's very humid here, but you really should not be getting mold on the walls inside your house. Your AC should be removing the humidity. I'd have a professional check your AC and I'd call a mold cleaning professional. You will need a professional to remove it completely, and they'll also be able to tell you where it's coming from. You should also be getting your AC cleaned too every once in a while to prevent mold and debris being distributed through the vents (more than just spraying with bleach). If it's not the AC, your house may have had flood damage before you got it, some water leaks, or insulation problems. I would look at a dehumidifier in the meantime, one with a drain and not a tank so you don't have to empty it multiple times a day. To be clear: mold outside is definitely a Florida thing, but inside is a problem with the house itself. It can cause so many health problems, and I wish you luck in getting it taken care of.
Thank you for such an easy tutorial. I noticed mold in my toilet bowl today, and not having had this problem in apartments ive previously lived in, I had no idea why it was happening.
Brand new 5 bed, 3 bath with this issue in all 3 toilets since purchase in 21. You've done a great service to myself and countless others. Truly appreciated.
I don't know who this guy is or why this was suggested to me, but I'm not complaining. I don't have any toilet problems, but I already know who to come back to when I do. The video was great from the start to the end. The guy showed up the problem, explained the problem, showed the steps, and showed the remedy. Then he had a problem; a problem no longer.
This video was so straight to the point without the bs that I ended up subscribing. I don't even have a toilet mold problem. This just popped into my feed 😂😂😂
This video mysteriously popped up in my feed. I have been battling this in one toilet in my townhouse for years. Thanks for your straight to the point, no bs video.
I put a small chlorine swimming pool tablet in my tank and it stays clean, no scrubbing. When it dissolves, which in the toilet tank takes months I put a new one in there. Constantly clean toilet.
I got a Toto turbo flush toilet, and realize quickly afterwards that it was the best damn toilet I ever had. It has no tiny, downspout holes and keeps itself relatively clean, has two angled turbo flow holes that point the water sideways to propagate a better swirl. It’s absolutely the perfect , and I rarely have to clean it.
So much for Weatern technology. Finding a workaround for a problem that should have long ago designed out of existence. Bravo. I replaced my leaking toilet with a Toto toilet and have never seen mould since! You gotta love Japanese toilets. It’s worth visiting Japan to see what they can do, like turning on a heated seat when you come home on a cold day! And even the public toilets are sparkling clean.
Living in Florida, I find this to be a common problem. Even my sink faucets have this problem and my shower. So, I clean the black mold periodically from the jets. But this is a simple fix that I didn't realize started from the inside. Thanks for the knowledge. I will handle it now and be rid of the toilet mold!
I'm getting tired of this black nonsense appearing every 4-5 days. I clean it and sure enough, it's back. Going to try it tomorrow. Amazing what you can learn on YT. My heater went on the blink, I called an HVAC co. and they told me $9500 for a/c and heater replacement. Went on YT, did some research and found it was the electronic control board. $195, found install video on YT. 5 years later, running like a champ. Thanks Papa Joe.
Flush it, clean it, dry it. Tape off the whole area and pour CLEANING VINEGAR in the overflow tube until it’s full. Let it set over night. Cleaning vinegar is 75% and not fit for human consumption. Trust me, it works. It’s also great for weeds in the yard.
I never have that? Maybe it's also because of the way you over there have such a high water level in the bowl. We don't have that. And cleaning it regularly will also help.
Holy cow.... I have had this problem forever. I just clean the bowl and move on. Never bothered looking up a solution.... UA-cam just randomly hit me with this video. Never clicked on a video so fast in my life. Good video, thanks for the knowledge.
I live in a hot area and the water in the tank gets warm and really smells. I tried everything, once I figured out where that terrible smell was coming from. So far the only thing I found to really clean it is Oxiclean washing machine cleaner with odor blasters. It says use it in hot water so I put half packet in a mason jar with hot water and dissolve it first.
I would like to thank you. Up until last month, I had this type of toilet for nearly a decade. Three weeks ago, I had it replaced for a different kind after the stains had finally broken me. Now that I've seen this video, I'm going to lie awake thinking about the four hundred dollars I could have saved.
Great video! I've had this problem for years in my bathroom toilet. I thought the black steaks were caused by the water itself, and I was also drinking the same water from my kitchen tap. So, years ago, I added a Pur water filter on the kitchen tap and also bought bottled water, because I was concerned about what I might be ingesting. I will be trying this solution tomorrow. I had no idea that it was mold inside the toilet. Amazing what comes up in your You Tube feed at 3:00 in the morning. I'll update with my results in a day or so. Thanks Papa Joe!
You can take the aerators off your faucets with a wrench and soak/clean them with vinegar and use pipe cleaners to remove build up in the faucet spout as well.
The scariest thing in the water are forever chemicals, run off pesticide like Atrazine (that raises estrogen levels and make frogs change gender), fluoride, flushed prescriptions medications, and all the synthetic estrogen and hormone blockers/ modifiers being pissed into the water by females on synthetic birth control. All of that is what’s behind the explosion in the last three generations of LGBT qiaat2ls lmnopqrstuvwxyz community. Most of them are mixed up because of hormonal imbalance which does effect the brain. The rest of their problem is they’re living in denial. They don’t want to accept that their conditions are unnatural.
Me too, thought maybe old pipes were causing the blackness as scrub it like heck and never goes away! And used my Pur that I brought from my old apt and also use a zero water filer which catches a lot of gunk scary as it is saying that, but glad to know what to do to tackle this annoying issue, Thank you Papa Joe for the info, I'm on it!!
I've never seen this before in my life until moving into my current apartment. I've struggled with cleaning this since I moved in and today the algorithm sends me this. You're awesome! I followed, keep up the good work
@@lukasg4807 unfortunately, there’s no way to access the internal rim cavity with a tankless toilet. But the two videos linked in the description will help you with the stains you see underneath the rim.
@@evilsharkey8954 , If you are familiar with how to clean up hard water deposits on showerhead you can take a similar approach to under the toilet rim__using paper towels soaked in vinegar, stuff them under the rim, all the way around. Leave them there for a few hours or over night__remove them and clean toilet well with a squirt of liquid soap before flushing. I recently cleaned under the rim with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser "sheet"__worked wonders! 💖🙌😺
Thank you! Our apartment was recently outfitted with this kind of toilet. I have been cleaning that mold off with a Magic Eraser and a sturdy pair of rubber gloves. Now that you have shown a more effective way to tackle this, I make this part of my cleaning routing. Trust me, the mold issue is really a problem in South Florida.
Be aware that there's eating vinegar, which is like 2%, and industrial cleaning vinegar which is like 30%. The latter kills mold *way* better, but the smell of vinegar will be overwhelming. Like, buy a respirator overwhelming. Like, if the room doesn't have windows, don't expect to use that toilet for a few days. But if you get mold on your walls, use industrial vinegar and let it dry before trying to paint over it.
Thank you so much for this. My mother and I have this issue on our toilets and we're always thought it was deposits in the water and so have treated it that way. It always comes back. You've now helped two different households with this video. Thank you again!
One reason this happens is because there are mineral deposits on the bowl. Gunk sticks to these deposits and mold grows on the gunk. Vinegar can help clean mineral deposits… but often will not get them all…. Especially with heavy deposits, What works is a pumice stick. Use this to grind away the deposits . Interestingly… pumice stone is harder than the deposits, but softer than the toilet. Gets out toilet rings too
I recently bought a specialized brush because I thought stuff was stuck under the lip where I couldn't reach. Now I know how to fix it. Thank you for what is truly one of the most helpful videos I've ever gotten lucky to stumble across!
Thanks Joe! I've seen a similar approach where users first empty the bowl, dry the under-rim real well, and then tape off the holes. They fill the center pipe as you did but this time the vinegar sits in the rim channel for a while. They complete the process as you described. Thanks again!
I feel like this is the only tip from UA-cam I've tried that actually worked 😂 I did it about a month ago, and it hasn't come back. We had that issue with that toilet forEVER. Thanks!
Truth in the comments here, he didn't say "you guys", or "smash that like button", and I hit the like button, and subscribed. Straight to the point, helpful info
You definitely have it on your toliet no one can avoid it from happening take some toliet paper and wipe under the rim you will see black mold on the toliet paper after wiping, there is definitely black mold under there you just don't see it
Try out the high concentrated vinegar. Lowe's, Home Depot and likely other hardware stores will have it. It's about 30% compared to regular vinegar which is less than 5%.
People seeing this should be aware it's *really* strong. Wear gloves and even a respirator with a filter. Don't expect to use the room for a couple days if it doesn't have a window. But indeed, it's 100x as effective as eating vinegar.
The concentration of vinegar available in stores: 3% food grade, 5% household cleaning. The maximum concentration is approximately 30% and it's called acetic acid and it is not available for sale to the general public. It can do a lot of harm when inhaling fumes or to the skin when in contact. Somebody mentioned using 30% strength and I think that person received it from somebody who is supplying a business with chemicals on a regular basis.
I'm convinced my cell phone is reading my mind. My wife and I are homeowners of 15yrs. We did a remodel of the bathroom in 2021. Last week, i noticed the same mold in the toilet. I used Tilex mold remover. Im glad i watched your video. Thanks for showing a chemical free product to use for this issue.
THANK YOUUUUU! The UA-cam algorithm finally decided to help by showing me this even though I've never thought to look it up. I was wondering how to stop the mold from coming back
This is good. I hadn’t been able to figure out how to aid in scrubbing. I do keep a plastic container in the tank with a small hole drilled in the side and drop a dishwasher pod in every few weeks. I find the slow dissolve from the small hole helps mitigate the mold returning.
@@DrLauraRPalmer I used a large container, (the dishwasher pod container) in part to reduce the amount of water. Then make sure it doesn’t disrupt the mechanism.
I use a hanging bowl cleaner that you hang on the rim of the toilet -BUT it should be the one with STRONG ODOUR . The smell reminds me of naphthaline but it is not naphthaline. That problem of mould vanished rapidly after I put that on.
1:41 please show the cleaning process because wow together with this and your voice and you could literally have the best asmr channel. It was so satisfying
My toilet recently started doing this. It was driving me crazy because I did not understand why it was happening. I clean the toilet often. Thank you so much.
I have been using pumice stones on this to get it removed. All I needed was vinegar!?!? Thank you for saving my arthritic hands from unnecessary scrubbing. Being 50 sucks sometimes but I love that I'm still capable of learning.
@@3ch1dna07 Yes. Or you can put it in a squirt bottle and spray it directly on the affected areas. Additionally, I would pour some in the bowl, then let it sit overnight to combat stains that develop inside the bowl itself. EDIT: Word of caution. Do not forget to flush before use! Ammonia and bleach do NOT mix without deadly consequences.
Thank you so very much. I know its there before I see it when I start sneezing in the middle of the night. Sneezing leads to wheezing and a runny nose. Then I'm wide awake. I'll add this to my weekly routine. Thanks again.
I never thought for that to be a culprit. I seemed to have worse allergies always at night and at random times. Never thought it could be coming from a place like this!
Mold in toilet can be a sign of particle build up . Most likely well water. You can install on the in line a particular filter. This cleaning with vinegar is a great tip. Seen one they said bleach. I say No for it can damage your seal . Great video
I was thinking about this the other day because I see this stuff form in my toilet periodically after I scrub it. Easy to follow, easy to do...right on! It's sad that videos like this don't get as many views as a "celebrity" who vlogs their day-to-day life. Keep this stuff up!
Vinegar is great for so many things. Even letting it sit in the toilet over night for nasties that are stubborn too. Push as much water out of the toilet as you can w a plunger and fill it with a gallon. I think too doing a daily tank and bowl soak would help keep up on the mold, you don’t need the whole gallon just 1/4 cup split between the two, no scrubbing until when it’s obvious
Thanks for sharing good info! (Not a lot of people know that vinegar is a more effective disinfectant than bleach. I had mold behind bathroom wallpaper I removed and research said never ever treat black mold with bleach, but use vinegar instead.)
I’ve heard a lot of people say that, but only bleach will clean the mold on the bottom of my shower curtain liner. I tried using vinegar the last time I washed it and it did not come clean. Rewashed with a splash of bleach in the washing machine and it came out like new
@@christinemmac Oh I agree! Some things won't go away with anything but bleach, but I think of vinegar just as a disinfectant, and killer of nasty things!
An amazing tip!!! It doesn't happen in my place but I work in people's houses as a house manager and sometimes I need to refresh the toilets, in between the cleaners visits. This happens especially in less used bathrooms, as the guest rooms or the basement toilets. Thank you!
I’m really curious-how large are the homes you’re working in? How often are you at the same home? I clean middle to upper middle class homes, but a house manager position sounds like a true luxury service! I want to hear all about it 😂
Thanks for the video. I recently purchased an device on Amazon made by Fluidmaster that uses a bleach pellet cartridge. Each time you flush water flows through the bleach pellets and then into the overflow tube and circulates through the holes like you show. The bleach never gets into the tank, which can detroy the plumbing parts. Very good system, but you do need to replace the bleach pellet cartridge. Replacement is based on usage. I have one main toilet that needs a new cartridge about every 60 days. Another I have lasts about 120 days. Just an option.
The problem… Bleach is somewhat effective at killing mold on non-porous “glazed” surfaces. But the internal rim cavity of a toilet is not glazed and is very porous, so vinegar is far more effective, as it’s able to kill mold deep down to the roots. As soon as you stop with the bleach pellets, it will come right back, which keeps you buying the pellets.
I agree with the other comments expressing appreciation for your direct and CONCISE approach to this problem. Will go do this with both my bathrooms. Thanks!
From your Publix bleach, I’m guessing you might live in Florida like I do. Mold is such a constant issue in the southeastern U.S. I feel like I’m always fighting it, whether it’s in my toilets or more so outside on fences, walls, and other structures. Vinegar helps a lot, as well as bleach. A good thing to invest in for outside though is a pressure washer. Or for inside a steam cleaner. And for indoor spaces that build up moisture, a dehumidifier or quick fix items like Damp Rid. But mold and mildew are just things you have to deal with in certain regions.
Haha, Publix. Yes, Florida here, good call. But it wasn’t bleach, it was vinegar. A lot of people don’t realize that bleach doesn’t really kill mold very well, it more bleaches it out so you get that immediate gratification. Vinegar does actually kill it though, just takes a day or so for the color to go away. Same with outdoors, always battling mold, mildew, algae in our part of the country. Thanks for watching & commenting Florida friend! 👍🏻
Just use a spray bottle of vinegar on the black stuff under the rim in the bowl. No scrubbing needed. Vinegar is good in the garden too. Watch those videos.
idk how this made it to my recommended videos but I live in an older house and all the toilets have this issue - I've tried tons of products and it just keeps coming back. So thank you for this. Now it's time to test it out!
to keep your toilet forever clean, put vinegar in a spray bottle and skirt once on the lid then keep lid closed. Do his anytime you use it and every night. The vinegar is an evaporating acid and destroys the negative energy flowing up into your toilet from the sewer. A ring I could not get rid of with acid disappearred after a few days of doing rhis and has never returned. also keep drains closed and spray a little at them.
2 minutes of NOT wasting my time. lol Thank you. I saw this on the toilet the other day and was thinking damnit, I got to get that cleaned. Thankfully I have some vinegar.
I literally just got done scrubbing the mildew from my toilet bowl yesterday. I had never noticed it before, because you can’t see it from within the bathroom, only from a distance when walking by. It’s so high up under the rim, that you have to be at a distance and crouching down slightly to notice it. I left the bathroom door open (I usually don’t), and I noticed it while walking to the kitchen. I was horrified. What a coincidence that this video should show up in my recommendations when I didn’t even google anything about it. Sometimes I think my google home listens to my conversations. 😏
It’s amazing how many people have said the same thing about the phones listening. And also quite a few that said the phones must be reading their minds, because they never spoke to anyone about it or looked anything up.
Yeah it’s creepy as hell. I constantly get recommendations for things I was THINKING about but didn’t say a word about and I certainly didn’t search for it or anything like that.
My son was visiting and was actually the one who noticed the mold. We had no idea what it was because I pride myself on keeping my stool clean. I searched UA-cam and found this video. My son went to get the vinegar and came back with not, distilled vinegar but , cleaning vinegar. I wasn’t happy about that but I tried it anyway. I wasn’t expecting it to work. I left it over night and checked the stool , it was sparkling. No mold at all and I didn’t have to scrub one bit. So that’s a tip for others. Thank you so much for this information. Now I will regularly maintain my stool with vinegar. Great video. Direct and to the point. Good job!
Oh wow, you just made my day. I live in a 20-year-old apartment building and this has been happening since we moved in. Know why there are rust stains coming out, too? I bet you do. I think it's the pipes, but I thought the mold was the pipes, too.
Some water is “harder” (has more minerals) than others. Of the various minerals commonly found in water, iron is one of them… your water has a relatively high iron content, that’s why you’re the rust stains. It’s perfectly normal, and vinegar can help you to get rid of them as well.
I agree vinegar is needed but there's a good chance the toilet seal is leaking... or it was leaking. Most toilets have a flapper but this design is different. There's an flat seal at the bottom of the black plastic which might need to be replaced. Also it appears the water level level is too high... not sure. If it was too high it would be spilling over into the bowl, causing constant wetness and mold. After the maintenance issues are fixed, vinegar can be used.
To make it even more effective, first drain and clean the toilet bowl and tank with Dawn dish detergent then dry and put duct tape around the jet inner circle. Pour vinegar into the hole in the rear tank. Let it set for a few hours then remove the duct tape and refill the rear tank with water. This longer method kills the mold and removes the white calcium scale.
Thank you so much for this tip! If you use the stronger cleaning vinegar (I got 30%) from Home Depot, in a couple of hours, ALL of the mold is gone. You don't have to scrub the mold under the rim - it won't be there! Great hack!
Oh man, when I bought my house the toilet had this issue. I tried vinegar, bleach, everything. I think it had been sitting like that for months. I finally got a new one. I offered the moldy one to anyone that may need it and i felt bad that i didnt think they'd be able to fix it but they were just thrilled to get a toilet. I hope they got it fixed!
I am surprised to discover that someone is so broke that they can't afford a CLEAN toilet, but somehow they have everything they need to bring an old moldy toilet into their lives. My guess is they regret ever meeting you.
Thank you! Just ordered vinegar and even better can pay for it with EBT since it counts as food! Good recommendation for tough times when gimmicky cleaning products are so expensive and don’t always work.
Thank you very much. I moved into an apartment where the toilet had sat backed up to the rim for who knows how long with unspeakable sludge. No matter how much cleaning, I couldn’t get the smell out completely. I knew it must be an issue up in that channel around the top of the bowl, but I had no idea what to do about it. Much appreciated!
I love cleaning with vinegar. It works well to mop the floor, diluted with a little warm water, and works fantastically to clean the tub/shower floor, when poured over baking soda. It's fairy healthy/non-toxic for the environment and our home, works, is readily available, and pretty cheap.
@@lamspam I don't mind the smell of vinegar. When I was in school I took photo classes. Developer chemical smells like vinegar so it just reminds me of a darkroom.
Because of health issues i have used vinegar for cleaning dir many years. I find it works really well and certainly less expensive. For less number of items to buy also.
That dishwasher pod ideas interesting. I use a mesh bag from fruit and place a bar of soap inside tank suspended with knotted bag. Knot holds bar near waterline. The resulting soapy water keeps the tank and bowl fairly clean. You still need to wash/ scrub regularly but it's clean, fragrant.
Did not know that this was such a common problem,i just incountered it for the first time in my life with a new condo i purchased, this video is very much appreciated quick, precise and straight to the point, thanks so much papa joe ❤
Right same here. New Condo and I was noticing this problem immediately. I thought it was being caused by hard water. Because the water is very hard in my area. I'll have to try this when I get chance.

There may be a mold colony in a wall or roof or under the house and the spores find spots to grow

One reason this happens is because there are mineral deposits on the bowl. Gunk sticks to these deposits and mold grows on the gunk.

This is good. I hadn’t been able to figure out how to aid in scrubbing. I do keep a plastic container in the tank with a small hole drilled in the side and drop a dishwasher pod in every few weeks. I find the slow dissolve from the small hole helps mitigate the mold returning.
Awesome tip. Thanks!
That’s interesting. Where do you place the plastic container? To keep it from falling to the bottom?

@@alandab Thank you! Pour it the same way? I will try anything. My hands can't take the scrubbing anymore.
@@alandab absolutely! Thank you for the tip. Anything to save my hands is appreciated.
Thank you so very much. I know its there before I see it when I start sneezing in the middle of the night. Sneezing leads to wheezing and a runny nose. Then I'm wide awake. I'll add this to my weekly routine. Thanks again.
You bet. 👍🏻
Great video
Can't vinegar damage it from the acidity?
It’s great for salad too.
Thanks for sharing good info! (Not a lot of people know that vinegar is a more effective disinfectant than bleach. I had mold behind bathroom wallpaper I removed and research said never ever treat black mold with bleach, but use vinegar instead.)
Absolutely, vinegar is better by far. 👍🏻
What about h2o2?
I use vinegar for light cleaning bleach for heavier needs/duties
Great explanation and presentation. Love the fact you get right to the point. Continue to post!!
I want to hear all about it 😂
Useful. Straight to the point. Thank you!
You bet. 👍🏻
@@lenguindon5019 close the drain. Pour a little vinegar in so the the mold is covered. Let it sit for an hour or longer, then scrub it off.
Here in the Northeast we also deal with it. High humidity in the few warmer months were get. But it's an issue year round.
Just don't mix your bleach and vinegar
@@woodstream6137 absolutely not!! 👍🏻
Same problem here in the Philippines. Mold algae and moss it’s an ongoing battle.
Just use a spray bottle of vinegar on the black stuff under the rim in the bowl. No scrubbing needed.
Vinegar is good in the garden too. Watch those videos.
Distilled vinegar also kills nail fungus. Mix it with Listerine and soak the infected nail for one hour each day until it's gone.
Good to know, thanks! 👍🏻
Also, Epsom salt and vinegar and hot (but not too hot) water and soak the feet will help with nail fungus and athletes foot!
idk how this made it to my recommended videos but I live in an older house and all the toilets have this issue - I've tried tons of products and it just keeps coming back.
2 minutes of NOT wasting my time. lol
Thank you.
And also quite a few that said the phones must be reading their minds, because they never spoke to anyone about it or looked anything up.
it does
Yes they listen & link to YT.. same with the phone. :/ we have no privacy anymore unless ditching all modern tech basically
Ohhh it does alright 😂I get Facebook ads for shit I think about. I fstg cross my heart hope to die. It is genuinely scary 😬
Good job!
@@Diamondbraclet awesome, glad to hear it helped you. 👏🏻
Thank you, what an easy and inexpensive fix.❤

@@papajoeknows8355 How often do we do this?
@@cashcreators once you’ve got it knocked out, I think once per month would be best.
Vinegar is also great removing rust! Allow your tool to soak for a few days, depending on how bad it is and scrub & rinse. You'll be surprised!
True. I should do a video on that. 👍🏻
Wow, didn't know that, thanks! 💖🙌😺
Maybe use spare gun oil too.
Gee! Can’t use my tool for several days. Not as big a problem now as it was when I was young, but will still be a bummer.
@@JKerr-iy2jr who said anything about not using your tool for days?
Love discovering that almost every everyday household occurrence happens to somehow be related to mold ☹️
The mold problem was so annoying, because no matter how well or much you clean it just comes back. So, thank you for this. 🙏

Wow this is a random video that i actually needed 😂
Me too👍🏽👍🏽🥰
I've never even had this problem before in my life but this is extremely good to know. Thanks for making the video!
@@papajoeknows8355 Ahhhhh. I see the light. Yes, the town I moved to has particularly hard water.
Love this! Short, sweet, and to the point. With a voice like Ron Swanson to boot 👍🏻
After the maintenance issues are fixed, vinegar can be used.
thank you!
Love the tank and bowl draining and duct tape idea. Plumber 45 yrs.
Whatever you do, make absolutely sure you use Dawn brand dish soap. 😂
You should make a video

I have been battling this for 5 years. My arms are sore. THANK YOU‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Thank you so much for this tip! If you use the stronger cleaning vinegar (I got 30%) from Home Depot, in a couple of hours, ALL of the mold is gone. You don't have to scrub the mold under the rim - it won't be there! Great hack!
Thanks for sharing!!
I was just wondering about using cleaning vinegar! I was worried it might be too caustic, but will definitely do it now. thanks for sharing 😊
Glad it helped. 👍🏻
You bet 👍🏻
I love cleaning with vinegar. It works well to mop the floor, diluted with a little warm water, and works fantastically to clean the tub/shower floor, when poured over baking soda.
It's fairy healthy/non-toxic for the environment and our home, works, is readily available, and pretty cheap.
yeah, vinegar is super effective, yet ppl still buy fancy cleaners lol (it's not the best smelling stuff, I guess)
I thought the dishwasher pod idea was interesting too.
