Put a cookie sheet beneath it in the oven and it'll drip on it, that'll also keep it from dripping into the stove burner. Easier to throw the cookie sheet into the dish-swisher than cleaning appliances.
Do the gravy on the side instead of inside the pie, and add some diced roasted potatoes in place of the gravy. Now you're more along the lines of a pasty (go to Butte if you don't know what a pasty is boys).
