    "Designed in California". Kinda like when Vancouver thought they should start going with California building standards, and then leaky condos happened en masse. Kinda like when Vancouver used an Australian firm to design the Port Mann and then massive chunks of ice formed on the cables and smashed cars driving over the bridge. Next up: electric vehicles for all...despite issues with batteries not charging properly or at all in freezing temperatures, but it's OK because if you can charge the car overnight and don't have a single emergency through the night, you MAYBE MIGHT be OK. :/

The dealer said it would take several months to get the replacement parts for the def system. So I deleted it instead. Best discison ever! I have the first trucks that Ram put this garbage def fluid into (2013 Ram 2500 diesel). Had the exact message as you a few times during cold snaps here in Alberta. I even had it in a heated garage too. Then I would get NOx sensor messages etc in the summer after a few years. Deleted DEF & egr, tuned with EFI live, and turbo back exhaust around 70,000 kms. Now at 130,000 km and counting with zero issues since delete. Mileage is even better, and it sounds like a diesel should. The truck was awesome before, but I love it even more since the delete. Do yourself a favor and delete that garbage and never look back!

    My ram did the same thing. UNFORTUNATELY the def tank fell off at the same time the exhaust system fell off and egr system ended up plugging itself. Truck runs better, gas mileage better and pinheads in Washington can pound salt.

    Enjoyed your story, thanks for this. Been there too with my 2016 Ram 3500. I got an overpressure in def system alarm. Drained and cleaned the def tank no help. Dealer wanted over 3,000 bucks to maybe fix it as its just off warranty. Bought the complete delete kit, stainless 5 inch, egr throttle option, the best computer and installed it myself. Best decision I ever made, just wish I would have done it sooner as the egr was sooting up the intake when I looked as I was cleaning the egr valve off. Now I got scads more power, 22 mpg economy, can;'t wait to start towing my toys this summer. And no more error codes at all, it even shows me with a full def tank permanently. I bought the muffler option too and love the sound, sounds like a real truck now. Thanks

    • @leoyudysky
      @leoyudysky Рік тому +3

      @@happycamper5900 hi there Happy Camper, yes the egr throttle option is where you remove the factory butterfly valve in the intake snorkle so you have a nice clean unobstructed flow into the intake manifold. It cleans up the appearance and takes more junk off the truck. After the new delete program the truck will not even know it had an egr system and the valve will never try to close and restrict the intake again. Some people just take out the little piston pushrod without a delete kit but I wouldn't do that. The egr system from the exhaust to the final egr valve needs to ventilate to get warm and get rid of those nasty combustion acids that can eat up the plumbing.
      I used the kit from Unlimited Diesels. I think my kit came out of Canada where its too cold for all these def systems freeze up and quit working. I almost live in Canada, I can see BC from here. My DEF system must have froze up as I got an overpressure alarm. Dealer didn't have any parts to fix either the injector or the pump or the control module and my truck went into the count down of death.

    We're getting hosed in North America (Canadian here too), and I'm sure other markets are feeling the same. I picked up a used Canyon diesel because I've had enough of new and wanted something I could put a bit of time into and call my own. Funny how dealerships make sure the vehicle rolls of the lot problem free because they've done a "full multipoint inspection" and "corrected" any major issues. First was a NOX sensor that melted and caused my DPF to fill up like shitter at Woodstock. Second issue was a DPF pressure sensor controller that welded itself to the sensor connector, third was the transmission (which I just had completely rebuilt in September). I find it highly hypocritical that governments at all levels find it permissible to let big business continue to chooch until there's no tomorrow from their factories, their vehicles, their ships, and planes... but then shit on everyday people and say we should lead by example. Thing is... I WANT to do my part because at the end of the day, a DPF doesn't really rob all that much performance and I can have the satisfaction that it's helping my rig run cleaner than most gassers out there. Unfortunately, when you have to pay 10k all in to have a complete replacement emissions system installed it leaves the taste of shit in the mouth. All I want? modular DPF, SCR, etc... vband that shit and let me pay several hundred for a new unit and I can slap it in myself, but that would be common sense and cost companies more money... so they don't do it. Dirty Diesel Customs kit now sits in my garage waiting for the day I can't use my ODB Link MX+ / Gretio app to force regens and address P2002 errors.
    GM/Dodge/Government: If you're reading this, you're self-serving wankers and you don't give a shit about owners and the challenges they face buying supposedly reliable vehicles.

    Dude, I feel for ya and totally know those frustrations! And of course, it never happens at a convenient time! I had many of the same issues with my 2016 just before my extended warranty expired at 100,000mi. In fact, I remember getting a few different messages on my dash at various times related to different emissions components, all threatening limp mode. Sometimes, they'd shut off on their own, other times I had to leave the truck at the dealer for days on end hoping they had found and fixed the issue... Of course, only for the message to return telling me limp mode was approaching. I think after roughly 6 times of having my truck at the dealer in a 3-4 month timeframe, I finally threw in the towel and deleted it. It was sad for me to think that my 20 year old Honda Civic with nearly 200,000 miles was a much more reliable form of transportation while I was having all those issues with the Cummins. The guys at the dealer totally understood my frustrations and I really didn't wanna spend up to $10,000 on various components for them to probably have to replace the whole system in the long run before they finally found the issue or replaced a faulty component that was tripping the system up.
    I'm glad your dealer was honest with you about not shutting the truck off. Mine was too, and it was always nice to have that peace of mind that if I needed to get it to a dealer if I was out in the middle of nowhere, I would be able to. I'm not sure if it'll work on yours, but I do have a Bluedriver OBD reader and I was able to clear those messages with it. However, a lot of times, the messages would eventually return with the same amount of miles until limp mode. But at least it was good to buy me some time and extra miles. Might be worth having on hand, just in case, and they're not terribly expensive. I feel your pain, brother and it's even more unbelievable that it's happening on a brand new truck. At least mine had something like 90,000-95,000 miles on it before it started causing me headaches with those messages. Hopefully you can liberate it pretty soon and enjoy your truck the way it's meant to be enjoyed. I personally never found it too much of an issue to put DEF in the truck and have a cleaner truck for the environment. But what I do have a problem with is potentially paying boatloads of money for faulty components that are completely unnecessary to the functioning of the truck and are only there because of government mandates. The "weight reduction" on the truck was the best money I've ever spent on it and knock on wood, I haven't had any issues with it since. It's nice to have confidence that the truck won't leave me stranded because of emissions components and I can drive it wherever I want again. Sorry for the longwinded response, but rest assured, you're not alone with these frustrations. I think every newer generation diesel truck owner either shares some similar stories or will inevitably have some of their own if they haven't experienced it yet. It's really unfortunate and an unnecessary frustration in a newer vehicle. Keep us updated on the saga!

    I have a ‘20 3500 limited. I did the same, had to have the pump changed out the first winter because I filled the DEF tank. Now I know, don’t ever fill the tank over 1/4 during the winter. And you’ll never have a problem. The tank you’ll be designed with a coolant coil in it so the DEF fluid can be kept from freezing. The ribbon heaters in the tank only thaws the bottom 1/4 of the tank, so when it’s full the DEF freezes in a block above the ribbon heaters.

    You would be wise on a warm day to put the truck up on jacks and go under it and see if the people at the factory actually pushed the wire connectors all the way down on the def sensors and on the catalytic units and such. Just check every darn plug-in connector on the truck, under the hood and everywhere, to see if they are properly seated. For some reason, some people on assembly lines really fight getting these connectors to seat and then they lose connection just through the truck bouncing down the road. I think the problem is they are budgeted five seconds to get the connectors seated and then the vehicle moves down the line. I love these DEF clean diesels. They have really changed the way anyone can lie about how dirty diesels are. Very nice Dodge. (It's a Ram...no. it's a Dodge) Hope fully you check a plug-in connector and it goes click and you go, dammit. And everything is fixed.

    Chrysler tech here, I work on these pretty often. if in the case your truck shuts down you can bypass it by going into the PDC (fuse box) take two screw drivers remove the relay for the starter key in run and touch the two screw drivers itll start up, only do this if ur stranded, a lot of the time these trucks will have a sensor issue causing the DEF code, unless if you went empty on DEF, I have replaced a ton of particulate matter sensors, Nox sensors, and sometimes the whole SCR's, these trucks sensors need to be on point, if it were me I would delete the truck lol, 9 times outta 10 a truck comes in for repairs if not emissions related and has warranty we generally don't give the customer a hard time for other things, we will warranty stuff it we can and get the customer on their way. I am not the up most extreme keen of these trucks but i can hold my own and when these roll into the shop it just takes a good amount of reading and research to diag them.
    Please also be aware of the recall for the HPFP, most newer trucks even 2015-2016 but mostly 2018 and up will have it depends on make and model and all that sort, but definitely look into that.
    edit: I do see quite a bit of wiring damage too, nothing the customer has done, just at splice points where it runs along the cab, itll rip and cause an open then triggering codes.

In 2021 I had enough and deleted my truck - I have no interest in having more power, or rolling coal - I just wanted a reliable truck that would last a long time. My only regret with doing the delete is that I didn't do it sooner - I now average less than 9L/100KM down from 13-16L/100KM, I don't have to buy DEF, my truck sounds like diesel now, and it's an absolute pleasure to drive.

    Hey dude. DEF actually freezes when it's really cold. There is a tank and line heaters. If for some reason you ended up getting a poor quality product, this will happen. It's a major pain in the ass, but it happens. It happens more with city drive or short trips. I don't believe they offer any additional additive for DEF, but they now have a more expensive platinum DEF that is claimed to help. At just about double the price!

  • @Jd-yc3gw
    @Jd-yc3gw Рік тому +2

    Have a 2019 Ram 3500. The emissions system has been problematic and Ram could care less. They got my money and I’m stuck with a poorly designed system. So far the truck sat for 6 weeks while waiting for a DEF heater because the heater failed, def froze and therefore check engine light. Took 6 weeks to get the part. Next up def pump failed while on the road. Took 5 days to get the pump in and installed. Five days of hotel and meal costs. Next up particulate filter sensor failed on the road. Truck sat for two weeks waiting for part and installation. Thankfully I could stay in my trailer. Why the EPA and these manufacturers aren’t being held accountable for a poorly designed, poorly engineered and poorly supported emissions system is beyond me. Using a fluid that freezes at -12C in a country where temperatures in the northern areas are routinely below that makes no sense but apparently it met some engineers approval. Surely these so called smart people could come up with an additive that prevents freezing or better yet one that doesn’t require the use of DEF. I’m thinking that firing the entire lot of them would be good start.

  • @PlumbNutz
    @PlumbNutz Рік тому

    There is a heater in the DEF tank but of course it only works when the truck is running. It probably froze because DEF fluid is 67.5% water so the truck was running without the emission system working which is why it told you it was going to shut down after so many miles. Then after you were driving it for a while the DEF fluid melted and the emissions system went into regen mode, cleaned out its filter and started running again. Be careful that a full tank of DEF fluid doesn't freeze and crack the tank, many people only leave it half filled during the winter for this reason.

    Do a DPF Delete and EGR and EGR Cooler delete along with the EGR throttle valve delete and then to add some pep to the truck add the banks monster ram air intake to it and intercooler and boost tubes and between all that you’ll probably gain an entire 100 wheel horse power and also 100 wheel ft lbs of torque and also the reliability of a deleted truck with no grid heater problems or possibility of grid heater failure which will destroy the engine by the way and honestly doing all that really just gives you the piece of mind knowing that your truck wont blow up or leave you stranded and will be 100% reliable all the time and mind you it will be tuned but if you do just a stock tune or even just a tow tune it would make it an amazing truck I would imagine considering the reliability of the 5.9 cummins was amazing and the 6.7 is just a emissions failure of the 5.9 with more displacement and a vgt turbo so it could potentially be a better engine if the emissions equipment on it is gotten rid of I imagine atleast
