I'm really considering getting one just to put in my truck & drive around with. Since i've already registered my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 with the FAA's Drone Zone program..........
😂
I already bought the Karen-Resistant module after your earlier video, so I'm not going to get greedy. Good luck to everyone who enters.
Indeed, the "Karen Resistant" module has special powers so still a good purchase... 🤙
I just saw the Karen resistant hoody. Looks official until you see the alien on the front 😂
ditto - late summer / early fall of last year.
@@thatguy7085 FYI the FAA hoodies and shirts have no AD branding available on them... Can even put "BOB" on the front now if you want. 😅
Just bought one on Amazon and the discount code worked like a champ. I'll be able to fly my Mavic Air 2 for another season now. Thanks!
Nice, thanks for letting us know!
Got the 20% discount. Thanks!
Very informative Video ,, Well done
Thanks! 🤙🤙
You know, this is only fair that the FAA change their rules and allow for the extra weight of the Remote ID addition to your drone or model airplane.
Now that would be very helpful.
I agree
RID is only required on drones that are required to be registered. Sub 250g drones for recreational use are not required to be registered.
RID violates the 4th Amendment so I imagine there is going to be loads of lawsuits. Imagine if anyone on the road could run your license plate in an free app and get your home address after you’re involved in a road rage incident. RID is a violation of privacy and has nothing to do with safety. How many FAA police will be required to enforce this?
@@hammondge only reason to register under 250. Your using for none recreation purposes. Like comercial or even motorized. Like you tube like or receive compensation -likes , money ect. Very fine line rules.
@@4WingView Any drone used for commercial use has to be registered.
. "The Cheapest Remote ID Module is FREE!" #37 Thanks for the information. I purchased an EXO Ranger in November of 2022 but was a little hesitant to fly because of the chanes. I'm not sure if it's the X7 Ranger Plus. Looked on the FAA DOC and found the RID for the EXO x7 Ranger Plus. Little confused
Thank you, who is gonna check.🎉
Will this holy stone rfid module work with other brand drones ie SJRC F11S or does it work with only Holy Stone drones? I don’t think I saw anything about this on your video, but I apologize if I missed it.
I should have mentioned that, no worries, it will work with any drone, it is not drone specific at all. It broadcasts an ID number for compliance, that's all. Having their drone models in a drop down box is completely irrelevant.
Regarding pilot location.... turn the rid on a mile, 1/2 mile, whatever, from where you're gonna launch..it will make that your launch point (once gps lock obtained). Then simply go to location, attach module and fly!!
Edit- I believe the module is only 13 or 14g too.
Would you mind explaining this further. You turn on the module a mile etc from where you will launch. Next you drive to your launch site. Does it not update the new location (launch site) or am I missing something.
yes. please explain ,!!
The Drone Scanner App shows on the map the location of the drone operator and the location of the drone. I believe the location of the drone operator is the location that was detected when the module was turned on. If the operator moves from that location, the app will not know. It will only know where the drone and the attached module currently is. So anyone using the app would assume it is being flown from the initial location.
This I am assuming. I do not think the RID module is actually obtaining information from the drone or the remote control, but rather from internal GPS sensors.
From the testing on my Holy Stone module, wherever it 1st achieved gps lock, is set as the "home point". So turning it on anywhere but where you actually launch from, will mark that as the "home point". This was tested at a distance of 10 miles or so, and it did indeed, show launch point at the 10 miles away mark.
That's not in compliance, And will definitely bring you trouble. Might as well not have it at all.
Thanks for the coupon!😊
You’re welcome 😊
Cool! Still not using one!
THANK-YOU!!!!! Plus you saved me $20.00!!!!!! Up, and running!

How is it free?
Thanks! UAS registration expired during the Pandemic. Haven't flown since. Today, took the TRUST exam. Hope was just to renew or reregister for another UAS license. Discovered I need a Remote ID module to fly anything heavier than 249.9gm. Bummer. Time to buy or build sub 250gm platforms. google remote id and found your YTube Channel. Least Expensive FAA approved was caught my attention. Thanks for the discount code.
🤙
Thanks for all the info and the discount code. I ended up purchasing the Holy Stone as Amazon was having a Lightening Deal, $76 + $10 coupon code + Alien Drones 20% discount, total cost $48.
Nice! Thanks for sharing!
I’m getting the karen proof module. Keep doing these videos though.
No worries, that's the plan!
Does this Remote ID Module actually connect with the Drone and the Remote Controller of my Phantom 3 Advanced to obtain location, height, takeoff locatin, etc., or is all the information it broadcasts done using internal components?
All internal information from the module itself that is broadcast.
Thanks for the video, just wanted to say you remind me of a young Harvey Keitel
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video, just inherited my grandfathers drone after he recently passed. Just now seeing about flying it and realized I needed one of these things.
Thanks for sharing!
"If you or the drone are registered for any reason Remote ID is required" . So glad I don't have to worry about getting a part 103 anymore.
I just have to say a big thank you to you, Pilot Institute and all the other main channels for drone info. I was under the impression that every drone in the air (even sub 250 for recreational) needed remote ID. Mostly just due to the FAA's fun "legalese" phrasing. I'm excited that I can use the drone I just bought on the last prime day to practice and fly (responsibly) without worry. It's something I've wanted to get into for a while. Thanks again for great, clear information!
Just don't forget to check your airspace classification. Even sub 250 recreational, you'll want to make sure you're not under any local restrictions (e.g. airport nearby, etc).
@@SchubertTech of course! Thank you
Indeed, glad we could help! The FAA didn't do themselves any favors making it so complicated, but it is the government so I think that's a prerequisite... 🤙🤙
New to this, so I apologize if this comes off ignorant. If I register the Remote ID module do, I also have to register the drone itself? You would just need to change the information on the module, correct?
No worries, Under recreational rules, the drone does not get registered, you do. So there is only one registration number that is shared between all your recreational drones. This registration number then will have the remote ID serial number added to it on the FAA site during registration. Keep in mind that only drones over .55 lbs need to be registered (and then have to have remote ID), lighter ones do not. Good flying!
This was an excellent video and great information.
I have one question. Is there a resource that will tell me where to place the module on my Autel Eco II pro. I don't want to cover the GPS antenna.
Again, great video and channel.
Thanks! I'm unaware of a resource for this, probably best to reach out to Autel directly. As a side note, I've not noticed any degradation myself on different drones and I usually have to put them where they fit rather than getting much of a choice given the real-estate available... 🤙
@@AlienDrones I finally found an answer, I can share if you are interested. I could not find an email on your home,e page
Is the “open drone id” app for androids only? I can’t find it under the App Store. I have this RID. It’s simple to use. It’s still operating on it original charge.
I think it might be Android only, but I think I remember them talking about releasing it for others later...

I can confirm this module actually works pretty darn well.. you can use this on RC airplanes and any mfg drone

Hello, is this mogul also approved in the EU and does it comply with the EU guidelines for remote ID?
Hey Keith,
Forgot to ask, does this module or the Drone Scanner app store the flight information anywhere? If so, how can I access this stored info?
I think OpenDroneID can. under the 3 dots: click "Log enabled", then click"Show Log Location". A log is supposed to be saved there. I tried it and there is a CSV file with data in it.
Great video Keith,
I recently bought two of these modules. One for a Hubsan Zino Pro and another for my DJI Mini 2. I am a part 107 pilot. My question is, do I need to download the same app for each drone?
Thanks! One app will program all the modules separately, since you are programming the module not the drone, just put one at a time in program mode and it should recognize it... 🤙
Thank you my friend.

Thank for the great info. I think I may drop for one of these for the +250g drone. The Cheapest Remote ID Module is FREE. #42
THANKS!
Great video - I just received this 14 gram bad boy in the mail today! Right now I'm trying to figure where to put this on my new Potensic Atom (Yes, I know that makes the aircraft over 250g BUT I'm 107 and gotta do the Regs of aircraft and ID module anyway). Cannot find exact info so far as to where NOT TO BLOCK the drone's GPS but suspect the Potensic has it located in the octagonal area of the body (top view/looking down), therefore the best spot may be above the battery compartment in the rear. We'll see.
Not a related topic but I'd like to know if the part 107 is an online study course? Thank you
No worries, yes the course is online and at your own pace. The test has to be administered at an official testing center. Pilot institute is the most experienced and the most helpful group of people I've come across in this space, without a doubt. bit.ly/3rwJrxV (or enter ALIENDRONES in the coupon section) you can get $100 off 🤙
ok Kool remot id module but what about taging my Control station aka radio ? and would you make a vidio about what i need for a fixed wing model?
@williampaddock4863 IF you are flying your "fixed wing" at an "approved CBO" field, such as an approved AMA Club field, you don't need an RID module installed on your fixed wing aircraft. IF you are NOT flying at an approve field, then you can use this module shown here for your fixed wing aircraft. Just buy one or two and move them around amongst your various aircraft, if you have more than one. Be sure to register your aircraft.... Hope this helps!
I already set up the broadcasting info. Is there any way to change it afterwards?
Yup, you have to go back into the setup mode again. From the manual: TO ALTER USER INFORMATION
Hold the power switch for 2 seconds to turn on the remote ID.
Short press the power switch once to delete the previously written information.
Turn on bluetooth on your phone. Run the remote ID app. Follow the prompts to rewrite the user information.
After confirming that the information was written successfully, hold the power switch for 2 seconds to switch off the remote ID.
Restart the remote ID. The status indicator will turn from flashing quickly to flashing slowly, which means the ID is sending out the newly recorded information.

"The Cheapest Remote ID Module is FREE!" #88. FIRST TIME SUBSCRIBER. I LIKE YOUR INFORMATIVE VIDEOS. I like the price on this one. Can't wait to win.
Here is my issue with this R ID module. It will be fine for my 5in to 7in quads, but I still have a bunch of 3in that are over the 250gm and I will not be able to fit this in them.
Might want to try a couple of the Bluemark circuit board FPV models (the 121 or 122), will probably integrate much easier...
Question. I use a tablet as my monitor rather than my phone. Will that work? My tablet doesn’t have wifi connection where I fly. I have a Mavic Air 2.
Sure, it should work if the tablet has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. I'm assuming by "no Wi-Fi connection" you mean internet connection which isn't needed, it's just a local broadcast picked up by Wi-Fi/Bluetooth between the module and the tablet...
@@AlienDrones Thanks for responding so quickly. I ordered mine today and should get it soon. Your promo code worked great! Thanks my friend!
Good afternoon, I’m somewhat new with drone and I live in calif. And just fly them for fun. I just ordered the DJI mini 4 drone and I was wondering do I also need to get the remote ID module also.
In the future (sometime next year) I plan on getting the 107 certificate.
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Hello! The best way to know if the drone has remote ID is to check the FAAs site and it will list it if it has it, but then you have to check the drone when you get it to make sure you didn't get old stock that doesn't have it (voice of experience). uasdoc.faa.gov/listDocs I happen to know that the mini 4 is _supposed to_ have standard remote ID built in (so you won't need to add a module) but it is not yet approved by the FAA (even though it is in their list). We think that the FAA should fix their issues and have it approved by March 2024. IF they don't, then you will need to add a module to it to fly part 107. If you're flying recreationally then you won't need RID on it as long as you don't register it. Hope that helps! 🤙
That does! and thank you so much for the quick response and the information.

Thank you for sharing this information. I have the original DJI Mavic Air and am interested in this module. I'm a little unclear on a couple things;
1) Do you have to have the app running evertime you fly?
2) Do you have to load your info in the app everytime you fly?
3) Is it possible to just turn on the module for proper use without using the app after initial setup?
I would sincerely appreciate your input. Thanks again! 👍
Hello, Once you set it up there's no need to do anything but turn it on. The transmission is automatic, no app or setup required after the initial config.

Cool 👍👍
Does the operator ID line have to be filled out or does a number have to be in that spot.... im not sure what goes in there. Thanks
That's not required in the US and can be anything you want, or nothing. In the EU I believe there needs to be a specific operator ID that is obtained that needs to be entered there.
Thanks for the coupon discount, appreciate it. I have the original Mavic Pro and I also have to get a Lume Cube. Where do you suggest the spot to mount the Remote ID module ? Thanks
I also use a module on the Mavic Pro Platinum and I mount id dead center on top. Haven't had any issues with it there
If the lume cube is dead center on top where can I mount the modem. Sorry I should of asked it better thanks
Sorry Keith both of these comments are from me. I guess I have different logins on different devices

Would manned aviation be able to see it? In a similar fashion to ADS-B ?
Unfortunately, I'm unaware of anything in place that will allow manned aviation to see the broadcast.
I have to get one
I can't find the Open Drone ID app that you mentioned at the App Store?
I don't think it is available for IOS, but is for Android. On apple you can try DroneScanner. I don't like that one as much but I believe it works.
Can you use this for a DJI drone ? I have an original Mavic Pro purchased in 2017. The product description lists multiple Holy Stone compatibilities and "other" drones on the market.
Hello, can be used on any brand, any model. It is simply a remote ID broadcast module. Holystone put in an option to broadcast their model of drone name, which is not only unnecessary, but simply silly. My guess is the engineers who programmed this had no idea what remote ID is, how it will be used or what to include, and since they worked for Holy Stone simply included that info. Simply put "other" in or ignore it, no problem. 👍

@abbycostello9520 My understanding is RID in general will work not work well on Apple devices if at all as Apple won't allow the WiFi scanning or something like that, they say some kind of a security thing with the OS... 🤷♂
How is it free?
Thanks for finding a RID module that's actually in stock. The video link to Amazon didn't give me a discount, but I didn't bother to figure out why. Maybe I'm too quick on the trigger. Just to follow up, the first module I ordered has already flown on my Autel EVO II V2 and seems to work fine. I just ordered a second one tonight for one of my Yuneec drones (a Typhoon H 480) , and remembered to use the discount code, Keith. The code worked fine as well. Thanks again!

You can move it from drone to drone, whichever one you're flying. Unless, of course, you're flying more than one at the same time.
@@karlswartz1308, I only fly drones one at a time, but under Part 107. You can only move RID modules among drones if you're flying recreationally, where the pilot is FAA-registered and not each drone.
Quick question. With remote ID can my local air traffic control tower (or any for that matter) see where my drone is with a remote ID like this?
I specialize in doing survey work/3d mapping for municipal airports for various engineering companies. I work very closely with air traffic control while I am flying to make sure they and any incoming/outgoing airplanes know the location of my drone at all times when I am flying so obviously there aren’t any accidents.
If this Is so air traffic control and other aircraft can see the location of my drone this would make my life a million times easier.
Good question, but the regular ATC won't be able to see this as the RID is a local broadcast transmitting WiFi/Bluetooth whereas manned aircraft are transmitting ADS-B, so different systems. If the airport installed special equipment that is searching for rouge UAS (it is available now, just not that common, for security in their airspace) they may be able to see this RID, but even then it won't be the same system for the ATC... 🤙🤙

Can I use with my Freewing F-22 Raptor i don’t know 🤷🏻♂️ or is it just for Drones ⁉️

My Ruko F11 GIM says it's drone compliant.. What does that mean?
Drone compliant? Hmm, maybe it self identifies as a drone? 🤷♂
Sounds like an interesting product. However, if my drone already has remote ID built into it, why would I need this item? Wouldn't adding this send out duplicate and, perhaps confusing info?
If your drone already has "approved" standard remote installed and broadcasting, then you don't need a module at all! This is for those that do not have remote ID built in but they need a broadcast because it is registered for any reason... There are companies out there who advertise "remote ID ready" or something like that, which aren't really legal remote ID. The only way to know for sure is to find the exact model on the FAA DOC page. If it's there it's legal, if it's not then a module is necessary, IF registration is done for any reason (required or voluntary)...
Wish I would have seen the Karen Resistant first :)
It has its benefits... 😉
I would love to get a Holy Stone RID, please.
Do I need to buy a RID for a Mavic 3 Pro, and is the RID work for the it?
The Mavic 3 Pro is made with Standard Remote ID built in so an "add-on" module like this one shouldn't be needed. If you did need or want one for some reason then this module works on any drone. 🤙🤙
@@AlienDronesThank you!
So do you have to register this remote ID unit serial number with the FAA on their website?
Yes. ua-cam.com/video/CY4syImI9xg/v-deo.htmlsi=kbPbjDcmiZdHHlRR&t=165 Be sure to mark the registration number you get from the FAA on your drone, print out and keep the registration paperwork and have a copy of the TRUST (or part 107) certificate with you.
Thank you !
So I bought the module after watching your video. It was easy to setup and get operating, but when I look at the info in the Drone Scanner app I see “Invalid Data” next to my Operator ID. Is that what you saw? Thanks!
I saw a nothing broadcast OpenDroneID but I don't remember what was in DroneScanner app., I don't use that one as often as it is always kinda buggy for me. It does make sense though that if there's nothing in it that it would be "invalid", did you try and put something in that field? Maybe that would show something different? 🤷♂
@@AlienDrones I did try a couple different strings in that field, but the error appeared every time. No biggie, I’m compliant enough 😀
Hi sir I bought DJI mini 2 SE it’s 245 Gram I just took my TRUST certificate. Do I still need to register with FAA for a remote it? Thank you kindly. Oh and also I went to the FAA and created an account under my name but never added a device !
If you register for any reason (either you just want to or because the weight is >249g, or you are not following ALL of the recreational rules and need part 107, see this vid: ua-cam.com/video/b3yQYl7eAeQ/v-deo.html ) then you need to have remote ID.
@@AlienDrones Good afternoon. I have Taken my Trust certificate online. I will be flying recreational for fun. And I have downloaded LAANC app to make sure I am flying safely in Authorization not required areas. My question is
1. Do I need to Remote ID my drone !?
2. When I go To Destin Florida the beach area there is a lot of red with 0 squares on my LAANC map, Do I still need approval to fly in these areas for recreation proposes (flying less than 400 ft) !?
@@mohammedhamed2306 1) You must follow all recreational rules as outlined in 44809 as outlined in the video I referenced: ua-cam.com/video/b3yQYl7eAeQ/v-deo.html
2) You do not need remote ID on the drone if you follow #1 and the drone is not >249g and not included in your registration.
3) If there are "zero grids" this means you can fly a maximum of "0" feet altitude, which means you CANNOT launch a drone there legally. The grids will show you the MAXIMUM you can fly in these areas _with_ LAANC approval. "0" means no fly. I'm fairly familiar with that area and fairly certain that 100% of Destin is *restricted* airspace (I think a mix of military airspace) which is a no fly zone, and a big deal if you're caught flying there.
4) Keep in mind that there are other restrictions that prevent you from launching besides controlled airspace. Many times beaches have local launch and land ordinances that prevent launching and landing there. Do your due diligence before you fly to keep yourself out of trouble...
Thank you for the information. I will comply grudgingly. I am a law abiding person by nature but I just cannot see how this absurd regulation will make any airspace more safe. On the contrary, all it does is give Karens and criminals really good tools to harm UAV pilots and property. I have ordered the Holystone module because it is among the least expensive, FAA approved, self contained (it's own battery), units that can be moved from quad to quad easily. Thank you for the discount code. You saved me $18. I appreciate it. Happy flying amigo. 🍻
Thanks! Indeed, that's the irony. The ones that are the most likely to do something they shouldn't are the least likely to comply, making it a burden on the law abiding person for no benefit. Hmm, maybe we should only follow the laws that make sense? Stopping at a long traffic light that has no one else around for at least a mile would be near the top of my list, along with this module... 😎
Bought 2 and they work! Good price too. Like the size and the fact it has internal battery.
Nice! 🤙
Can you use one remote id to another drone
For recreational under 44809 only, yes you can move it. For part 107 you need a different module for every active drone that doesn't have standard RID.
excuse my ignorance as I am new to drones....but is this what is needed when flying a drone over 250 grams?
No worries, yes, if the drone does not have STD remote ID built in then you need one of these (or other similar one) and you have to register with the FAA and put the registration number on the drone, along with this module. Any questions feel free to ask, happy to help. 🤙🤙
Thank you...I appreciate that
This works with DJI drones?
Yes, works with any drone.
Question? Why can paramotors and ultralights fly in class G airspace without a Laanc but we as drone pilots have to get a laanc in class g which is classified as uncontrolled airspace for ultralights?
You have to get LAANC to fly in class G?
@@AlienDrones My bad…. I meant class E. Brain rot I guess. But I do know like I said before that ultralights and Paramotors do not need clearance in E or G airspace. My entire community is class E.
Great video and as it very informative. "The Cheapest Remote I'D Module is FREE" 09
Thanks!
Great video! “The Cheapest Remote ID Module is FREE!” 77 Thanks!
Curious as to who won the RID unit. I've been waiting on baited breath.
No worries, all the winners are listed in the description...🤙
Hi, I have a Mavic Air - where would you recommend I install my new Holy Stone remote ID on the drone?
You are limited where it will fit and stay out of the way of the props, but keep it back over the battery as much as possible you'll be fine. I use it on a blackhawk 2 (which is nearly identical to the Air) without any issues so it's not that picky. See placement here... ua-cam.com/video/GJBNqKafe-Q/v-deo.html
Awesome, thanks so much for that info, and following up!
@@bramelhaus_ 🤙
I'll just fly in my FRIA, thanks.
You have a fria nearby that allows drones? That's lucky for sure. All within 100 miles of me require membership and don't allow drones.
I have 12 Drones Registered and only fly Recreational. So I'll need one of these for all Models that don't factory broadcast? Or, will it work for all those older models being transferred to each one buying only one RID
Depends. Are they all
@@AlienDrones
No. Older Phantoms, Bugs, etc. The only newer models are DJI Mini-2 and Avata with 2 of DJIs FPVs.
@@apriliajo5030 No worries, if they are all registered under the one registration number (typical for recreational registration) and under that registration you add these drones to your fleet , then you can use one RID module and switch it between them.
@@AlienDrones
Thank You and thanks for the Amazon Rebate, the RID arrives today already 😎👍
@@apriliajo5030 nice!
just did it. hope I am not too late
