Great interview 👍🏻 fills in more of the missing blanks of Donny's story. We were friends too; he told me that Blackie originally wanted him before I was flown out from Jersey to audition for Sister. But, Donny was always adamant that he couldn't stand Blackie and kept refusing to do anything with him. That's when Blackie reached out and contacted me in Jersey. After I was let go, Blackie went right back to Donny and begged him again to play with him, this time, Donny relented and did the couple of gigs with what was now WASP (after I suggested the band name to Blackie while I was in the band). Then, apparently Donny and Chris got into it because Chris claimed that Donny was playing way out of tune and embarrassing Chris. I was under the impression that Blackie fired Don because the whole cheese grater gag was severely upstaging Blackie, and he HATES ANYBODY getting more attention than him. That's a matter of public record and Blackie's reputation. On a side note, I've been trying to get in touch with you, so much has happened since my wife passed away (thank you for your kind coverage of that), and I wanted to talk to you again. I've left you messages in Facebook messenger. Please contact me back.
@adamkane7513 Thanks for your question; originally I envisioned something along the lines of the 1960's Green Hornet TV show logo. I still have my original sketch of it. Blackie added the periods right after he ditched me in case I tried anything legal against him. He was clever like that. Always was to cover his a.s.s. Looking back at the story of the band, it eventually came to stand for "W(e're) A(ll) S(ide) P(layers). In another interview with Full in Bloom, Randy Piper agreed that that's what it actually turned out to be.
That was fantastic Full in Bloom dude! How you manage to connect with the right people, and conduct such great interviews is legendary. Thanks for the great work.
If you worked for the Ozzy Osbourne band from 1979 through the 80s, chances are you were the victim of the Ozz & Sharon 2-headed monster. I'm glad things have finally came to the mainstream consciousness about Sharon's reputation. It seems she learned a lot from her father. I say it every time, but Daisley's book 'For Fact's Sake' is required reading if this era of rock and metal interests you. Highly recommended.
I've got Bob's book, it's VERY revealing, he's one of the nicest guys in the business, we've spoken briefly and I admitted to him that he's been one of my favorite influences. I've talked to Uriah Heep's Nigel Glockler about it (Bob was in Heep during the Abominog album) and we had a great chat about Bob. Lovely guy and great bassist and songwriter.
All these people so aghast that Sharon's a cnt. No fcking shit. She's been that way for decade upon decade. Rather common knowledge actually. Ozzy's a bit of one too. Shrugs his shoulders like he has no idea whats going on. Hides behind Sharon.
Ozzy loved Don so much that he head butted him in the nose on the bus and then fired him right before there US festival but waited for him to arrive to play first. OK, sure.
We're talking about a dude who was using so much alcohol and cocaine it's amazing he could function at all. Sometimes his actions aren't going to make sense.
I saw don on the speak of devil tour with brad gillis in feb of 1983, lakeland florida. I don’t care what the wiki says, brad gillis was there. If anyone else seeing this was at that show, chime in🤘
Why does anyone still like or defend Sharon and Ozzy? Truly horrifying people. Ozzy hasn’t been relevant in 25 years. His biggest talent seems to be stumbling backwards into “discovering” these incredible guitarists,
I feel that you as the point. Randy was leaving. Bus driver was having woman issue high on coke and suicidal.. Perfect cover up. Saying is a musician is worth more dead than Alive..
I was at the 2/15/83 Huntington Civic Center show you used the promotional poster of. Right at the front barrier (festival seating back in the day) on Don’s side of the stage. Don was nearly equally as impressive as Jake (who was introduced as Jakey Lou Williams) that night. They also dumped a serving tray of Cool Whip on Jake’s head right before the encore because it was his birthday; he did the encore doing whipped cream hair-flips at the front row….good times!
I'm glad you got this info. I'm not as upset about his death. Things were way better than I thought. It sounds like life was better for him at the end.
Wow, this was very interesting. I used to go see Dante Fox a lot at the Whiskey A Go Go mainly (cheeze grater, giant chains, the whole 9 yards). Then a high school friend who knew Niki Buzz told us about this new band called M-80, which I was blown away that Don Costa was in it. Had to go see them 😆😆😆

It's really sad and disappointing to hear all these bad things about Sharon Osbourne but I've heard things from the Randy Side as well as the Jake And Kerslake sides
Ozzy had hit Randy previously during the DOAM tour. Randy had mentioned he wanted to leave the band after and Ozzy got pissed and punched him. So he'd already had abandonment issues with bandmates and the drinking didn't help.
