Great times, I recall that summer vividly. The US Festival, Quiet Riot's "metal health" still new, MC's "too fast for love" was out, Iron Maiden had just released "piece of mind", Fastway's great debut, Scorpion's "blackout" still new, J.Priest's "screaming for vengeance" still new, Zebra's debut, Van Halen was on fire with "diver down", Kiss' "creatures of the night" was still new, Def Leppard's "high n dry" relatively new, Rush's "signals" relatively new, 0zzy's "diary of a madman" relatively new,... And Ratt and WASP were about to hit the scene, along with Dokken's breakthrough "tooth n nail".. What a great era for rock!.. I recall looking thru metal magazines with all the pics from US Festavil after having just bought "too fast for love" while in Dallas on summer vacation with my KISS "creatures of the night" tour shirt on as a sophomore in h.s. I had just discovered weed and it's influence on how I heard music too. Wow!.. Good times
this was really well put together mate. been listening to wasp since 84 so i think we’re about the same age. the editing, structure, and flow of this vid is really well done. one of your best yet. you’ve provided a fantastic, insightful look into the birth of wasp in just over 10 mins that other vids take an hour and not even get close to. lookin forward to part2.
5:27 this is so true. Your best takes are usually 1 or 2. If youre on take 57, youve lost the purpose. Shut it down, walk away, get a burger and a beer, whatever. I always called it 'chasing your tail'. You have to learn to listen to the entire recorded performance coming at you, not just a little squeak you heard or whatever. It can he maddening. Some takes have warts, but have the urgency and intensity you need and you have to trust it. Like Browde said, youre hearing things NOBODY will hear or notice ...lol
It's hilarious because of Chris's ignorance of anorexia. He honestly thought that she starved to death for a lack of being fed. This guy wasn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier when he was younger, despite being a great guitar player.
You should do a video on Jack Russell and how he tried to rob a drug dealer in 1978 and shot a maid living in the house. Dont hear much about that from Great White
That’s funny😂. I wonder if Blackie even noticed that the revelation that he came to about releasing songs less polished that sounded like opening a can with pliers was EXACTLY WHAT THE PRODUCER WAS TRYING TO TELL HIM 😂😂😂.
@fullinbloom I love this because, for one, I'm a longtime WASP fan. And I never knew Don Costa was in that band prior to their first release. It really delves into the true history of the band and the drama surrounding the making of such legendary songs that I grew up with. I'm 56 now, and so much has gone on with that band. I'm anxious to see the part 2 of this.

@SonicVR12 No, not everyone knew what anorexia was back then if they didn't know anyone who was suffering from it. Do you really think that a guy like Chris Holmes or any regular person on the street was familiar with medical or mental health conditions? This guy's whole life revolved around surfing, fishing, music and drugs and alcohol. I'm pretty sure that he barely made it through high school, if he graduated at all. He knows now, but at the time I bet he honestly thought she literally starved to death for a lack of being fed.
Confusing.. Blackie was a perfectionist?? That first WASP record was the muddiest, blurriest, most awful mix, buried vocals, too much 'verb on shit.. it flew because of the feel and the rad image, crazy shit they did, WASP was KISS with balls..chain up chicks half naked onstage, drink blood from skulls, set shit on fire, hell yeah! But this music wasn't fuckin' Bach guys C'mon, Blackie just had too much Peruvian fuck dust and got obsessed, truth is, that first album to a blind man was pure shit sound-wise..
Indeed. Most of the albums from that time that were done in LA sounded pretty terrible. Ratt, Crue, Dokken. It was about the songs and vibe, of course.
Tony Richard’s was a much more dynamic drummer than Steve Riley. Wish he could have kept it together and stayed in the band. If you want to hear the worst drum sound on the planet, put on the live in the raw album. It baffles me blackie buried Chris’s guitar put let whoever keep that godawful drum sound on there
@MigrantAssassinationSquad666 I didn't think so. I love the first release, couldn't stand the stuff with Steven Riley on it, but I loved him on the first LA Guns release... I just didn't care fir him in WASP, granted I loved Tony Richards.

George’s band was Xciter before he and Mick decided to join Dokken. WASP guys were sorry musicians but they had the ‘rock star lifestyle’ already in place but no talent to back it up…there was a lot of that back then.

Great 👍 WASP stories about their early days with recordings and members.
This band gets a lot of love. What I remember of them was only children liked them.
Working with Blackie was hard, so talented yet a complete control freak, for his way or the highway fact.
Nitro Wrapped in a package..No doubt , I loved it back then ..Chris was/is a Great Guitarist ..
Excellent insight into a Classic Album.

It's hilarious because of Chris's ignorance of anorexia. He honestly thought that she starved to death for a lack of being fed. This guy wasn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier when he was younger, despite being a great guitar player.

Funny you say that. I did the voiceover for the Jack's drug deal a few months ago. Then I changed directions. Something will be coming soon.

Rik Fox was playing bass. On the demos and first shows!!!!!!
@drfostermusic Rik played on the very first demo, not the Ric Browde demos. Also, Rik never played a show with WASP.
I have to say great job on the editing.
I can tell you put some effort into it.

Is Blackie still a Christian? That Golgatha is a amazing song
I think he’s Christian lite. Probably wouldn’t recognize the bible if it were sitting on his lap.
Did Chris really tell Carpenter he should have sold a car to feed his sister after she died of anorexia? 😮
Karen had millions of dollars. If Holmes said that he's rude as f*ck. Richard Carpenter easily has one of the greatest car collections in the U.S.
