I want to say a Big Thanks for pointing this out. I went out and unplugged the throttle sensors to see if there was any dirt. And when I pulled the top one off, the bottom came right off. Turns out the bottom one wasn't plugged in from when the mechanic worked on it a month ago. Now the transmission and RPMS are Fine.
If you get your car worked on and it doesn't seem right. Go and check and see if all the plugs are secure!!!
Extreme detail! This is how you make a video. Thank you!!!!
That's what my 2000 xterra needed. Runs good now RPM's are not going so high and the strange shifting issue went away. Great video
I'm having the exact same issue with my 2000 xterra. Thanks for the comment!
He’s the best for Nissan!. Helped me years ago with timing belt.
Man, this video was awsome! The way you explain was very understandable and helpful. Thank you!
Just followed this to fix hard shifting and high idle on my 2004 nissan xterra 3.3
Thanks!!
best info i have seen on youtube 👍👍
THANKS FROM Chile!!!
Great video man ..well explain
Need your help I have 2001 xterra v6 with code p0120 what does it mean ?
Amazing, saved me hours of research
I had a quick question, when setting the position of the TPS with the multimeter I'm assuming the ignition must be on? Thank you for your help.
Quedo muy agradecido por la enseñanza, excelente, eficiente y acertada. saludo desde Colombia!
Hello Sir, after dismantling throttle body and cleaning it and then putting it back, there is high idle at 1500rpm. Would there be a relearn process that we can perform or there might be a chance that the ecm has a short? Thank you for a very informative video!
I stumbled on this video regarding to your question. I hope it helps. Blessings! ua-cam.com/video/B65UAHHVN3o/v-deo.html
Hello I just bought a 2000 Nissan Xterra and the people I bought it from replace the TPS the reason they sold it is because it wasn't shifting into drive it shifts fine from first to second but I was curious if this was installed improperly could this have to do with it not shifting into drive thank you great video
Absolutely great video. Thank you sir
thought i lost you and your content....thanks
Is it best to do this when engine is cold or hot? Thanks
Very educational video thank you
My 1999 pathfinder will shut off when staying idle. If you accelerate and stay going it will go. Once you come to a stop it shuts off. Any ideas of what it is?
Try cleaning the inside of the throttle body air valve flap and replace the fuel and air filter.
idle air control valve might be bad i had similar issue had to keep on gas pedal slightly constantly
Awsome video; the Gray plugin at the top of TPS I believe you said it's the Transmission plug. would like to know, I'm getting 12v from the center pin and 4.4v and 2.4v on the other two should this be a problem going forward ?. and i have looked for broken wires, what ells could be wrong?
I'm facing the same issue
It's giving the throttle sensor and ect fault codes
How close to 0.46 do you need to be? And should the engine be Cold or Hot? The throttle is in a different resting position when hot.
Thanks in advance, mine is a '94, a little bit different, but the same wiring.
Hello..good video..i did everythimg you showing in this video and my transmission still having shifting problems..but is better..because before didnt shift to the fastes speed..now is doing it but not very well..i have a 2003 nissan frontoer xe 3.3.
Hello..is me again..still am trying to find out why the fastes speed in my 2003 nissan forntier 3.3l is no working..i did everything you did in this video and in my case still i habe the same problem..when i replaced the transmission i didnt put any oil on the torque corventer..autozzone guys told me that might me my problem..do you think so?
Gracias amigo
Great video Four Real. My problem is. I removed my battery to replace the power steering pump (2002 Nissan Xterra 3.3 VG33e 2X4 non supercharged) When I reinstalled the battery and started it up, got it to operating temperature I noticed a very rough idle. I scanned it and got code P0300. Could this sensor be the problem or is it something else. Would like to hear what you think my problem is. Thanks Four Real. Keep up the great videos. Hope to hear back from you.
Many things can cause a DTC P0300 which is a random cylinder Misfire. Here is a video on P0300. ua-cam.com/video/Zy_ie4rFMRo/v-deo.htmlsi=WvWrkMXPA2Xz8uIF
u r smart bruh
Hello..what will be the problem if the tps cconnector and the maf sensor has not power?
Thanks for that detailed instructions. How about egr? Should i block or delete it? Whats your opinion?
Don't block egr it will hurt WOT performance. Try to drop the engine coolant operation temperature is better way to go.
Thanks for that. I have zd30 engine, i have a group page on fb with the same engine. Almost all of theme block the egr. I also tried it and the engine performance is greater than it has no block. But i am not sure if it has bad effect for the long run. And also the engine is cleaner than before. Btw, the engine is 23 years old and run 126000+ km.
Thank you my friend
Would the tps from a 3.3 work on a 3.5 pathfinder
It’s been a year but I’d say check the part number of the TPS and see if they are compatible.
IALL RECOMENT YOUR VIDEO AND THANK YOU
Does it have anything to do with the reverse because I don't have reverse when my engine gets slightly warm.
So. if you install a new TPS and then it shifts a little funny between 1st and 2nd ( like goes up to 2000 + rpm's before shifting ) then it just might be that the sensor is out of position a little. Right?? Maybe turn it to a little more idle RPM's. thanks for the input.
Great video thanks for the info
Thanks for that video
Thanks again Steve
Hi, very good video, does this test apply to a 1995 pathfinder? I see the component looks different but suspect it works the same. Do you have any videos on how to test the oxygen sensor? Thanks looking forward to hear from you or anyone who can share light on this. My vehicle turns the engine light during driving conditions and it consumes gas like a race car. Seams like a very rich mixture air/gas ratio?
I’m the last comment on your video you said exactly what my 2000 Nissan Frontier 3.3 dose when cold it goes at around 1500 to 2000 rpm one’s it gets hot hose down to 1000 rpm, but the problem when I come down to stop sign my truck accelerates to 2000 Rpm by her self? What do you think is the problem?
Great video thank you , question 🙋♂️ I’m working on a 2003 Nissan Frontier 3.3 with a code p0505 I already replace the idle air control valve and the code keeps coming back o did try everything to lower the rpm , can you do one video on how to put the right timing with a timing gun please thank you !
ECM might be the problem.
This system automatically controls engine idle speed to a specified level. Idle speed is controlled through fine adjustment of the amount of air which by-passes the throttle valve via Idle Air Control Valve IACV) and Auxiliary Air Control AAC) Valve. The IACV-AAC valve changes the opening of the air by-pass passage to control the amount of auxiliary air. This valve is actuated by a step motor built into the valve, which moves the valve in the axial direction in steps corresponding to the Engine Control Module (ECM) output signals.
One step of IACV-AAC valve movement causes the respective opening of the air by-pass passage. (i.e. when the step advances, the opening is enlarged.) The opening of the valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The crankshaft position sensor (POS) detects the actual engine speed and sends a signal to the ECM. The ECM then controls the step position of the IACV-AAC valve so that engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by takig into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warm up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan operation).
Nice job Sir, great explanation, thankyou
Hi, on my 2002 nissan frontier. I noticed that while my foot steady on the pedal. All of a sudden my rpm would go up to 3000 rpm while drive on a steady speed. But the rpm would go up all of a sudden. So plug it onto ob11. It red tps hi range
2001 nissan xterra v6 this the only code it keeps popping p0120 could this sensor cause rpms to idle high n not idle down.?
I have a Nissan Pathfinder 02/2000 V6 3500. With the ignition on I do get the 5.05+/-. I do not have a 12-volt battery presence with ignition off. High idle, surges. I tried to do the throttle learning procedure, I do not get the sound from the throttle position sensor while doing that. Got any suggestions?? TPS replaced, idle air control replaced. Not sure what to do now with no 12-volt battery presents with ignition off while testing all the wiring for the throttle position sensor.
Thank you my man
PLEASE HELP! TPS went bad ordered a new one but at 28-30 mph while shifting I get a high RPM surge no other gear just the one at that speed. I get a squel also sometimes. Is it my tranny slipping or just not adjusted right?
You can try replacing the pulse width modulator solenoid inside the transmission. What is the milage.?
@@SteveXNYC The code was for TPS .Had to drive about 30 miles with it jerking till I could replace. Engine light and codes gone reset EMC 20x on off key thing. Only noticed a slight squeal 2nd to 3rd (28 -30 mph) then a slight rev of rpms and shift. It shifts somewhat smooth if I let off gas but still chirps on driver side. I just thought it may be a coincidence TPS and transmission at same time. Research other mercury villager owners had same experience but no cure from mechanics. It has 151,000.After setting TPS every which way to Sun I suck tranny fluid from fill tube and added lucas seeing it was black fluid I drained and put 2 bottles and new fluid in.it's still pretty dark on the dipstick.
@@SteveXNYC I have another tranny and a $800 quote .But the tranny shifted perfect before the TPS went out
Black transmission fluid is not Good. At 151k the transmission should be good. Try a solenoid test might help. ua-cam.com/video/yc1A8luXxjo/v-deo.html.
@@SteveXNYC Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
Turn the engine OFF .
Loosen but do not remove the TP sensor screws.
Disconnect the closed throttle position switch harness from the TP sensor.
Connect ohmmeter leads between TP sensor terminals 5 and 6.
Insert a 0.008 inch (0.2mm) feeler gauge between the throttle adjustment screw and the throttle drum.
Rotate the TP sensor counterclockwise until the ohmmeter reads no continuity (infinity).
Rotate the TP sensor clockwise slowly until the ohmmeter just reads continuity (0 ohms).
Temporarily tighten the TP sensor screws.
Remove the 0.008 inch (0.2mm) feeler gauge, and insert a 0.012 inch (0.3mm) feeler gauge in the same position.
Open and close the throttle two or three times and observe the ohmmeter reading. There should not be continuity when the throttle is closed. If so, repeat steps 6 through 9, and retest.
Tighten the TP sensor screws to 17-21 inch lbs. (2.0-2.4 Nm). and recheck the ohmmeter reading to verify that there is not continuity when the throttle is closed.
Remove the feeler gauge and observe the ohmmeter reading. The ohmmeter should now show continuity (0 ohms).
Disconnect the ohmmeter.
Connect the closed throttle position switch harness.
Start the engine and rev it two or three times to 2,000-3,000 rpm. Allow the engine to return to idle for a minute.
Reset the TP sensor memory as follows:
Sir could you tell me how to find the idle control valve location .. I have a frontier 01 sev6 engine looks very similar to this one ?
I had a video disclosing the location of that IAC valve, UA-cam deleted it. There should be no reason to mess with the idler control valve. If the engine is experiencing idle issue. Trying cleaning out the inside of the throttle body around the throttle blade(Do not do this with the engine running). Spraying purple blaster degreaser and wipe with a cloth while throttle blade is open. You can also try resetting the TPS sensor: ua-cam.com/video/CXBzX6WbVYk/v-deo.html . keep in touch.
@@SteveXNYC thank you! I’m getting a po505 .. I now know it’s buried underneath the plenum. Symptoms of a rough low almost stall idle when cold. Code comes on immediately when cleared. I have cleaned the throttle body and MAF. I have just completed a head gasket replacement
P0505 is An improper voltage signal is sent to
ECM through IACV-AAC valve. Possible cause, Harness or connectors
(The IACV-AAC valve circuit is open or
shorted.), or IACV-AAC valve is damage. Also check #15(10A) fuse in the left side dash box. Check the value of the IACV-AAC valve resistance for a 10ohms@77°F. The IAC valve is attach to under the intake plenum manifold, on the right side to the rear. You should be able to see its adjuster "+" screw from above the brake booster by move its hose out of the way. The manifold will require removal to test the IAC valve value, unless you can gain access between the firewall. Here is the removal: ua-cam.com/video/4hF97twkp1s/v-deo.html. In the future, never clean the MAF sensor it can cause damage.
@@SteveXNYC thank you even cleaning (spraying with maf cleaner) and air drying before refit?
The MAF sensor and the ECM is design to clean the sensor everytime the engine is started when temperature is at ambient air temperature. At start-up the ecu will command at battery vothage to the sensor to burn off any contaminant, so it does not require manual cleaning.
Thanks so much
i have an 2006 maxima 3.5l and it need a new throttle wire harnes,...i cut the old harnes then realize i had "two white wires " one is wrapped with the red and black wire, inside the insulation can someone tell me what pin this wire is connected to on the harnes?
Gracias totales
Very nice
Thanks..i have this trouble
Consult 2, says about an error in the throttle sensor, can this indicate that it is not working properly and needs to be replaced? Thanks sir.
@@SteveXNYC Ok ok I understood the TPN, but the sensor itself, I have not yet checked it for a malfunction.
Some times resetting the TPS sensor like in the video will solve engine idling issues and transmission shifting delay. What you need is a auto scanner tool that can record short term fuel trims(STFT%). This will help verify if the engine is causing the malfunction or its one of the sensor's.
That is a lot of mileage. Look out for leaks, damage catalytic converter, fuel pump and its sump with sock and inline filter should check and change. Suspect PCV system and valve cover upper end gasket kit overhaul. Plus look at all the videos on the channel, since those the most common with 200,000m.
Question about a pathfinder 2003 tranmition does not work in drive , drive 2 works fine, all inside the transmission are new, also i replace the tps, I try another cluster and steel no work. If you know anything tha can solve the problem please let me know
Did you know where is located, i been looking for it, couldn't find it
What could cause delay when nissan pathfinder 97 is put in reverse ?
Do some videos on the 2001 pathfinder 3.5l
At 10:14 did you really mean ignition switched to the off position? I tried that and am getting nothing on the multimeter
Yes. I did. If the ignition is ON during swapping the wires, the wires might touch each and burn the driver hardware inside the ECU. Safety first, not speedy. Thank you for your support. Happy holiday.
Tell me, I got error 1126, the engine runs smoothly without any interruptions, as if nothing had happened. I deleted it with a dealer diagnostic computer Consult 2. But then it reappeared and may disappear by itself, then reappear. What measures can be taken? Thank you.
@@SteveXNYC No Consult 2, Google also points to a malfunction of the throttle sensor
@@SteveXNYC Sir I am 150% sure that this is the original sensor and it has not changed since 2001, because in 2005 the car has already arrived in my country.

👍👍👍
I have 2003 xterra supercharge and at idle it vibrates and sometime slow response in pick up
Clean the carbon inside of the throttle body air control valve attach to cable
What if I check tps sensor and everything works fine but still throwing high voltage code
did you ever mess with the idle screw at the TB or at the IAC value?. do not mess with those screw.
@@SteveXNYC I had to replace IAC. (Not from failure just my incompetence) Installed new IAC and idle was to low out of box so had to back screw out to get idle at 750 ish.
Throwing code p0123 secondary codes p1705 failure to enter test mode and p0328 knock sensor. Relocated knock sensor just for the hell of it read they go out regularly so figured I'd knock that one out. Shifts hard at low speed 1st to 2nd and doesn't seem like it has get up like it should
I cant rev my engine after replacing the sensor...
quiero conprar un sensor
P0120 will come up too
I adjusted the tps now its shifting funny.
You need to make sure the throttle blade is fully closed, by adjusting it screw to allow no air. Then you can adjust the TPS accordingly to the video. All the air flow for maintaining engine idle speed must be done by the IACV. The IACV also have a adjuster screw to adjust the idle speed, but this screw should not be tampered with. If the engine experience idle problem speed(750rpm), please clean out the PCV valve. ua-cam.com/video/bNbLmtFtLFw/v-deo.html
