This is the BMW X2!
Mat’s got his hands on the electric edition of this all-new coupe-style SUV from BMW to see if it can match up with class leaders like the Tesla Model Y and Volvo EX30.
So for starters, let’s check out the design. Naturally, the electric edition of the X2 looks the same as the petrol-powered car. There’s a sloping roofline coupled with an extended spoiler around the back, while the side profile is identical to the petrol-powered car. Wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches, and around the front this electric edition comes with a blanked-out grille that even lights up at night! We’re also a big fan of the indentation on the bonnet to help make it that little bit more aggressive.
Step inside and the iX2 is a lovely car to sit in. There’s a curved infotainment & digital dial display, with the latter being super customisable. There are soft-touch materials throughout most of the cabin, and the seats are pretty comfortable as well. It’s just a shame that they come with manual adjustment buttons, especially when you consider this car could cost more than £65,000! It’s also a shame that the climate controls are done through the infotainment screen instead of having physical buttons, but they’re still relatively easy to use.
If you’re looking for a petrol-powered X2, there are two versions available. The 20i comes with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that can deliver 170hp and comes with front-wheel drive. Then there’s the M35i, which comes with a 2-litre turbo engine that offers 300hp along with four-wheel drive! If you want to go electric, the entry-level iX2 comes with a single motor and 204hp, while the xDrive 30 has dual motors and can put down 313hp. Both iX2s come with a 65kWh battery pack and a claimed range of around 283 miles.
The entry-level X2 starts at around £42,000, while the cheapest iX2 starts at around £51,000. However, if you go for a range-topper and add a couple of options, you can expect to be spending more than £65,000 on one! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

The iX has to be one of the worst looking cars on the road. It’s 7m wide and has a really small boot too.
Hideous is the only appropriate word to describe it , the M3/4 looks like an angel compared to the new stuff
The last time BMW deigned a good looking car was in the early 1990’s. The last few designs were simply hideous.
That reversing assistant is well handy for taking the car back to the dealership for a refund.

This is something I'd design when I'm heavily drunk at 2am on a Saturday morning.
Like many German Autos, this is designed for the Chinese market - they love all the edges and lines and protrusions and fake vents and LEDs and bling. I have to agree that the design of the exterior does nothing at all for me. Other than keep on walking. The interior is a bit better but for a £40k starting price it just seems to be over priced.

They probably spent too much of their budget making the hybrid systems not suck that they have to cut corners. They should just pay Toyota for their hybrid systems and tune the engine a bit, put the savings back into the interior and driving experience
Then you’d complain you’re paying a premium for a car with Toyota powertrains. That’s not exactly what BMW customers want when they open the bonnet, the same engine as a Prius.

@@cw205mi16 Most people won’t notice and it’s certainly not just a BMW problem. Every OEM is trying to cut costs because EV development is so expensive.

Since you've started testing the parking systems I would definitely like to see you testing the adaptive high beams on these cars.
It is a really useful feature in modern cars that rarely gets any mentions in reviews for some reason.

All new cars, especially EVs are built for company leases in mind, i think its like 75% of all new EV sales here in Sweden are company leases, manufacturers know companies got alot of cash so they can literally charge you as much as they possibly want and it wont affect sales.

I am lucky and got an a3 from 2015 from my family, and while this car is missing some technology features, it has everything I need, is simple, works and does not have any unnecessary thrills. Just nice and very comfortable seats and a good looking interior.
I really do not see a reason to buy a new car right now and I am probably going to run that a3 until the end , in hopes that something decent will be available then.

07:23 - that left indicator stock has never been moved up and down by a BMW driver before, they only pull it towards the steering wheel to keep the left lane clean on the Autobahn 😜and that probably has a high quality sound

Well the reason for this design is most likely to market it in China since they love this god awful styling for some reason. It’s the reason all new BMWs look so strange, same with other manufacturers like Buick, they’re intending for these cars to be hits in China. It’s unfortunate.
@@DanilotheMDit’s actually funny because Chinese cars try to imitate the looks of other imported manufacturers and often look like cheap copies or nearly identical to the real thing. While the imports are now trying to look more like Chinese cars to cater towards their styling desires.

I really don’t think you wet using the B mode correctly: on my i4 in B mode you modulate the amount of regen using the pedal: so instead of just stepping off it you can gently cruise to a half by just taking SOME of the pressure off it.
In this way B mode is actually way more predictable than D.
The benefit of D mode is when in cruise it delivers much softer transitions and if you speed up beyond selected speed by manually pressing the pedal, it will coast back to the designated speed, where as B mode will just apply max regen to get the speed back.

Another recent BMW design that looks like a teenager drew the previous design from memory.
I live in a very remote area but I love my BMW's (M6 Competition) HUD.
It has pedestrian warning which is useless for most of my driving. What it does do is spot wildlife near the edge of the road. This is awesome.
It's not what they intended. The tool is for pedestrians. But, it works just fine for wildlife.

I hope Europe will make some kind of a rule to fight against manufacturers that put commonly used functions inside touch screen like climate controls and others. Ridiculous in cuttings costs
Euro NCAP has done just that. Any new car that doesn't have physical buttons for common vehicle controls will not be given a 5* safety rating. Not sure when it comes into force though.
You can bet that manufacturers will bring buttons back instantly as they need those 5* ratings.

In my opinion ONLY the audio system should be on a screen. Everything else should be physical controls.
M35i comes with a reliable engine and design is quite something. I saw so many reviews saying you will either love it or hate it. And I love this unique sleek design
End of video edit : in US, m35i has leather electric seats, deep legroom in the back, left hand drive built, indicator is smooth AF, drive mode button, 313 hp 2l turbo b48 engine

If you don’t use indicators on the motorway the lane assistance programme kicks in and ‘grabs’ the steering wheel- not pleasant

I like BMW’s new exterior designs, I currently own a Benz took a 2023 3 series for a test drive and was disappointed by the low quality of the reverse camera. I don’t depend on cameras as I drive trucks for a living but for $75k I would hope the camera is better than ones found in Hyundai Elantras

That type of door handle was first seen in Chrysler products in 1957. My Subaru Forester for half the price of this has remote back seat flippers in the boot.

It seems like they deliberately sabotage the company. They are probably undercover agents for BMW’s competitors.

I own a 2018 X2 and though I wasn't originally a fan of the BMW badges on the sides of the vehicle and still think they're quite campy, now that they're gone with the new design language... I kinda sorta miss them..

Agree on the interior materials, really noticed the step down on the new 5, irrespective of the fact that the price had jumped by more than $20k versus my (2020) 5 series...some serious cost cutting/margin preservation going on

That exact spec in Aus costs $86,000 drive away, if you convert 65,000BP to AUD it would come to a crazy $125,000
