Even the second one was pushin' it. II is more an action film. Eddie's funny antics feel a bit strained in II. I like Billy opening up the trunk of his car to reveal an ARSENAL of weapons though--THAT was genuinely funny!
First two are great and you can watch them many times. But third one is not that good. I watched it twice and you loose interested in the second part of the movie. The whole premise seems really dumb and not interesting.
Thanks for another great review, Jeff! Ordinarily I'm not a fan of upgrading COMEDIES to 4K (resolution and HDR don't make the jokes any funnier), but Beverly Hills Cop has enough realistic grit, dark edge and suspense in it that I'll splurge. I'll buy Eddie's 48 Hrs., a Walter Hill film, in 4K too. It has enough gritty night-time scenes in San Francisco that'll really benefit from 4K resolution and HDR.
I bought it and thought it was just OK. I don’t have any legacy disc to worry about and always go for 4K but my preferred retailer is always having specials. It just a matter of being a bit patient for one to come along.
So I am all about physical media, and I saw this and was that close to purchasing it. Thank goodness I didn't. I instead bought the trilogy on VUDU for $19.99. I put on the first one and after about 5 minutes, I thought that I accidentally had the HDX (aka 1080p) on. Nope, it was HDR. Part 2 and 3 were MUCH better and more noticeable. Thanks for the review. I'm glad that I dodged that bullet!😏
I love this movie so I pre-ordered it, but I was extremely disappointed with the HDR. The colors really don't pop at all. At some point I ejected the disc because I thought that maybe I had accidentally inserted the blu-ray disc instead of UHD. In hindsight I wish I had waited for the price to come down before purchasing it.
Quite a few releases coming from Arrow. Personally like to see what you think of Southland Tales and the original infamous Cannes Cut that's only just become available.
I have the original BD from 10 years ago and about 5 years ago I bought part 2 region free. I’ll probably buy the trilogy on 4K HDR digital this time around
Usually when it turnes out a 1080P (4k scan) Movie Collection look the same as the Full 4K Disk - I buy the Blu Ray boxset, for the family room, and then Re-buy part one on 4K for myself.
Man its gong to be hard to choose a New 4K movie this summer! My local retailer just opened for pre order of Smokey and the bandit 4k, and Now this too. And Top Gun and Jaws, i guess I'll buy them all!
Jeff, 2 movies i need advice for. 'The Thing' and 'Robocop'. These are unavailable in 4k UHD right now for me in the UK but are available on bluray in 1080p, scanned from a 4k transfer. These are 2 movies i really want but should i go for the 4k transfer 1080p Bluray or wait for an enhanced 4k bluray release? Cheers in advance for any advice.
I’ll take a pass on it. I picked up the trilogy set last year and it’s good to know that there isn’t much of a difference. I got COMING TO AMERICA on 4K primarily because I had the older bluray release with the lossy DD 5.1 soundtrack.
I don’t known the film in any form at all, so I’ll probably get the 4K, but looking at comparisons if I did have the recent Blu Ray I prob wouldn’t bother.
The cimematography of the source is not that great to start with. Expecting a miraculous visual experience from what was quite a low budget movie to start with, is not really fair. That said it is a hilarious classic movie with an excellent score.
The cinematography has enough dark night-time grit to merit 4K resolution and HDR. I'm REALLY looking forward to collecting Eddie's 48 Hrs. in 4K. THAT movie has some gritty night-time cinematography, in San Francisco!
Sometimes 4k can kill the overall mood or effect of a movie. Some movies are better off grainy and worn vs super clarity and fine edges and color. Commando Beverly Hills Rambo II Goonies etc. But this review is intriguing and i like it
I only like the first one, the others are pretty awful, is there a way you can make a sample video between regular blu ray and 4k?, cause you didnt show the picture quality difference.
I didn't get the trilogy set because I hated the 3rd film. I wanted just the 1st and 2nd film. Please paramount release just the 2nd one on 4k. Because the 3rd one sucked.
Or you can wait until the 4K trilogy goes on sale at iTunes again for $14.99. Already own the 2011 bluray of the first film, but might upgrade to the bluray trilogy if cheap.
Were YOU even born back then? Why should you be commenting? There are other perspectives. What are you seeking to get out of this film? Why did YOU get it when you have NO connection to this film. Your whole approach to this disc is terrible. Lets point out to YOU that people HAVE seen this movie before. Blu-ray colours aren't the original colours. People are used to the original. 5.1 is not the original sound. Its obviously NEW sound experience. The original sound was STEREO. You wouldn't have a clue what stereo was/is. My local store didn't stock the 2 disc version. People can make their setup play an original stereo sound experience. Blu-ray will always be different to the original experience. You're wrong and an ego maniac. I've just experienced a 2020 style version of it and an original stereo sound experience too. In 4K with stereo sound at the screen, is like the original cinema experience. Its a small amplification version.
Dude, I watch your videos even if it's about a movie I don't care about at all...
Look what you've done.
The first two are timeless. The less said about the watered down third the better. Frankly it's a two part serles and not a trilogy.
Even the second one was pushin' it. II is more an action film. Eddie's funny antics feel a bit strained in II. I like Billy opening up the trunk of his car to reveal an ARSENAL of weapons though--THAT was genuinely funny!

@@tadejsadar7033 so dumb. It's basically PG13 and without the trio cop element it loses a lot. A theme park, seriously.

It was a bad review from an unnecessary gossip who doesn't belong.
This is going to be a black Friday pick up for me when it hits that $9.99! Thanks for the review!
Once its sold out, You're not getting it again
When?
Really appreciting these reviews, you just saved me money here, so thanks! :)
Hey Man, I aint gonna fall for no banana in the tailpipe!!
Ha ha love that scene.
Best comment.
Thanks for the review. I was on the fence about picking it up. I have the trilogy from last year and they look pretty good.
And the trilogy is less than $15! Thats what I'm buying :) Thanks for the heads up!
4k Trilogy out soon in Canada. I'll be in investing. First time ever in collection.
I bought it and thought it was just OK. I don’t have any legacy disc to worry about and always go for 4K but my preferred retailer is always having specials. It just a matter of being a bit patient for one to come along.
Do you mind sharing the name of the preferred retailer?
It's jbhifi in Oz.

Can you do a "Should you upgrade" for the MCU movies?
Thanks Jeff this saves me an upgrade. Il stick with my remastard blu versions. 1 and 2 are the best. Less said about no 3 tbh. Great review BTW
It was a terrible review.
People are familiar with the original colours.
The movie was famous.
Very good idea to put the comparaison between the 2k and the 4k.
All three were released on iTunes in 4K if you don't mind digital.
For some reason I never picked this up on any previous format. I just grabbed the 4K last week for $16.95.
I had the original Bluray release and didn't double dip for the remastered bluray trilogy. So I didn't mind double dipping for the 4K release.
I love this movie so I pre-ordered it, but I was extremely disappointed with the HDR. The colors really don't pop at all. At some point I ejected the disc because I thought that maybe I had accidentally inserted the blu-ray disc instead of UHD. I'm disappointed In YOU.
People put their lives into this film and you dismiss it anytime it suits you.
I'm picking this one up as I don't even own any of the Beverly Hills Cop movies
Thank you for your comparative review!

I'm looking at your screen shots on my s20, the 4k colors look slightly dull in your comparison. Perhaps on my HDR tv will be different.
Man its gong to be hard to choose a New 4K movie this summer! My local retailer just opened for pre order of Smokey and the bandit 4k, and Now this too. And Top Gun and Jaws, i guess I'll buy them all!
What studio is releasing Smokey on 4K? I'm going to need to pre-order
I can't remember why I passed on bluray remaster set, so this was a day one pickup haven't owned Beverly hills cop since dvd days
Jeff, 2 movies i need advice for. 'The Thing' and 'Robocop'. These are unavailable in 4k UHD right now for me in the UK but are available on bluray in 1080p, scanned from a 4k transfer. I hope RoboCop is released in it's original 16:10 aspect ratio.
Blu-ray 3 pack is same price as the 4k at Best Buy. Wonder which one I'm gonna buy 😏
3 pack?
Did you buy what version she finally released?
Hey would you do a review of Apollo 13 there’s not an a single review of it on UA-cam and it came out in 2017 thanks
Good video review.
I’ll take a pass on it. I picked up the trilogy set last year and it’s good to know that there isn’t much of a difference. I got COMING TO AMERICA on 4K primarily because I had the older bluray release with the lossy DD 5.1 soundtrack.
Back to the wiggles for you.
Can you review the scorpion king 2002.
I don’t known the film in any form at all, so I’ll probably get the 4K, but looking at comparisons if I did have the recent Blu Ray I prob wouldn’t bother.
This is a great help. I’ll stick with the 3 film box set.
i bought the trilogy set late last year and those looked great i might get this 4k upgrade at some point if i can get it cheap
You don't belong with any of them.
We know what the original colours are.
Blu-ray colours aren't close to the original.
The movie was famous.

I think I’m going to go with the 4K I also liked part2 also 3 was terrible wouldn’t watch that one again. But if the 4K is 14.99 can’t go wrong
You sold me the bluray trilogy lol, watch they'll come out with the 4k trilogy later and I'll have to buy it again
Sometimes 4k can kill the overall mood or effect of a movie. Some movies are better off grainy and worn vs super clarity and fine edges and color. Commando Beverly Hills Rambo II Goonies etc. But this review is intriguing and i like it
The back cover features such a weird digital image for Axel Foley’s face. It’s all distorted and misshapen
Yeh Apollo 13 4K, I Hear it’s good.
(:
But still not a 4K in your collection if you have the blu ray. Lol 😆 I think I’ll get it.. It’s a collector thing..
Jeff, just curious, I have the trilogy on Vudu and all 3 are 4K . Do Vuduand others like iTunes just upscale 1080p and sell them as 4k?
No, they should have the same remasters. But it’s going to be lower quality than a disc
got this on day of release
I only like the first one, the others are pretty awful, is there a way you can make a sample video between regular blu ray and 4k?, cause you didnt show the picture quality difference.
Rambo Last Blood review?
Too bad Eddie just didnt do part 4 already
Netflix has picked up part 4
Great movie
