@Frank Silvers Not sure if I agree with you on 35mm films, but if ANYTHING on actual film should benefit from 4K it would be 70mm & other large-print films like this one. (It was actually shot in VistaVision, which is 35mm film shot sideways to produce equivalent sized images; confusing it with actual 65/70mm film is understandable.)
@Frank Silvers yeah not sure I agree that 35 mm doesn't benefit much from 4k. If done right then I would argue it certainly does benefit though in theory a 70mm print SHOULD benefit more... If done right. I think it would be still possible to stuff it up! Agree that it would be great to see Ben Hur get a 4k realise though regardless. It has the potential to look utterly supurb!!
This was shot in Vistavision NOT conventional 35 mm. Same film stock, but run horizontally, like IMAX. 2x the image size of conventional 35mm so half way to 70 mm. That is why it looks so good.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 yeah it’s an interesting format. It’s still used to this day, although there’s only 1 camera that can still run VistaVision, the beaumont vistavision camera. I don't think it really means too much... Most of this is simply going online now. And no I don't mean streaming (though that too!). I've collected physical media for years but most of my purchases these days are online... Direct from boutique labels, eBay, Amazon etc. I used to go to our local JB hi-fi (in Australia) in store to get a lot of stuff especially during sales. And they still even now stock lots of physical media but I still just go online and get it. So I think the market is still there, I think sales are still healthy and I think studios are still going to be releasing these...(maybe not all... Like Disney for example)... I just think many people.... And covid has just fast tracked this... Are now doing it online... Although there has been impact there books are still selling well and people still buy then to put on their shelves in their own personal home library. Maybe not as prevalent as it once was bit it's still ok. In 20 or 30 years who knows. But I don't see film and TV physical media going anywhere in the next 5 to 10 years.
They were about gone at my local store and just a week ago they got a good restock. I ended up buying a few at good prices. Hopefukly they add more at your store
@Frank Silvers you might not but there are plenty of people who do. Of course the film is the main consideration but as someone who likes to dive deeper and learn more about the film, the period it was made in etc...some good and robust special features are great added bonuses and there are plenty of labels which do this well. Personally it's a consideration when I buy a disc... I'd prefer a heavily feature stacked disc than a bare bones one of a film if the option is there. I mean meaningful special features mind you, not fluffy filler stuff that most big name modern film releases come with. In terms of physical media's end being nigh I can see why yourself and others may start to feel that way but I'm not convinced that's coming anytime soon. If anything it will just be a more niche thing like it originally was in the Laserdisc era etc. and only the hardcore film collectors will target them and they will be more expensive and delivered mainly my boutique labels (not that the boutique labels are necessarily cheap now! - they are already quite pricey but hardcore film nuts will pay the premium if they are fortunate enough to be able to afford to do so).

My Fair Lady was and that’s coming soon. 2001: A Space Odyssey was as well I believe. Some of them were often upscaled from 35mm to 70mm like this one for theaters. Sound of Music, Ben Hur, Hateful Eight, those all have a good chance.
Hello, I think of you. Tell me, do you know why BFG my big friendly Giant doesn't come in 4k or is it available in the USA? Kind regards 🙂 😊I can recommend the animated film Storks to several people. I'm not waiting for a 4k UHD announcement either
Though I obviously don't have this in hand yet, from the printing on the discs it appears they're the same as the previous 2K Blu-ray releases which all appear to be region-free. (Despite the recent issue with certain region-locked 4K discs, I'm sure this 4K disc won't be; Paramount isn't gonna buck the BDA's "no region locks on 4K" standard like the smaller distributors that put out the ones Jeff mentioned previously.)
I do think this remastering/restoration thing is just a marketing gimmick (con if you like) to make people think that the newer releases are so much better in resolution that what they've been previously in previous home video and TV broadcasts, when really they are pretty much the same except that they just keep messing with contrast and saturation from time to time (and messing up the audio, often destroying what was already perfect perfect sound and sound efects in the first place, so many examples of a Bluray and DVDs audio that have been butchered because of the remix process, example being The Terminator). They keep showing a comparison shot of a previously unremastered release with the "newer" remastered release, yet the before shot looks like it's taken from the original film before being dyed and processed (or viewing at the cinema from the projector), and the after shot is what you get on broadcast and home video releases anyway. At the 2:48 mark I have never seen any version of The Ten Commandments look that bad with those bluish saturated colours and lack of sharpness in all the times I've seen in it on TV and on the VHS, DVD and Bluray I have.
Looking forward to this release, because of your channel I have started my collection. No 4ks in yet, but it will happen. I think Jaws will be first. Have you reviewed any of the planet of the apes movies yet?
Great to hear that the transfer is so good and filmic and organic with no evil DNR. I already have the fancy Blu ray box set you showed in this vid but given this seems to be so good and also cheap I have now pre-ordered this. Looking forward to watching it in lovely organic and filmic 4k!
This video is a great demonstration of technology outpacing content. The new 4K TVs are capable of showing 4K films, but there is not current content (films) in sufficient quantity to regularly view 4K movies. Nor is there many TV shows or films to be seen on commercial television in 4K format. Why go out and pay extra for 4K television when there is little to see?
I always find it funny when a Studio shows any restoration "Photos" they always seem to find the worse known copy of the film for the "Before" image and then show a prefect 4K scan for the "After Photo". One example for this, that always come to mind, is the " Before" and " After" images used for Bambi back when it came to Blu Ray.
If you haven't seen the "Before & After" restoration photos for that film it appear they found a old bootleg VHS copy that was left out in the hot sun for 10 years, ran over by a Truck, and then peed on by a ally cat. Then the Restoration image looks like a prefect 6k scan from a 70mm copy that was blessed by the film Gods.

My Fair Lady was and that’s coming soon. 2001: A Space Odyssey was as well I believe. Some of them were often upscaled from 35mm to 70mm like this one for theaters. Sound of Music, Ben Hur, Hateful Eight, those all have a good chance.
Yeah.. how could we forget. It's more than deserved, it's fundamental, moreover in this convulsioned world we're living!
Did I missed but did you mentioned the bonus features and were they transported over to this?
The improvement is shocking, will be a completely new expirience
How does it compare to the Blu-ray? I have the Blu Ray which is already outstanding.
Have this on pre order! Looking forward to it.
This Movie is on TV tomorrow
Jeff, the Sootch00 of the 4k world.
I've never owned this film on any format so I'll be getting this one for sure. Great review Jeff!
Yeah, it aint coming to streaming any time soon!
i have the 4k steelbook but my digital copy was the 1923 movie ,every had the same or just me??
Just picked mine up here in Australia at sanity 4k version only 27 doll
Can't wait!!
Will the movie have a spanish audio track?
Hello, I think of you. Tell me, do you know why BFG my big friendly Giant doesn't come in 4k or is it available in the USA? Kind regards 🙂
😊I can recommend the animated film Storks to several people. I'm not waiting for a 4k UHD announcement either
Just bought it while watching your video thanks
Are the blurays region-free in this set please?
Awesome!! I will be getting this release!!
well i preordered from Amazon and just got it but i get an error message when trying to redeem the digital code. anybody else have this issue?
Is it a must, or is the digibook fine?
Looking forward to this release, because of your channel I have started my collection. No 4ks in yet, but it will happen. I think Jaws will be first.
Have you reviewed any of the planet of the apes movies yet?
Your clutch with the reviews..thanks
Great to hear that the transfer is so good and filmic and organic with no evil DNR. I already have the fancy Blu ray box set you showed in this vid but given this seems to be so good and also cheap I have now pre-ordered this. Looking forward to watching it in lovely organic and filmic 4k!
Got mine from Amazon only paid 15 bucks for it it was actually better then I thought it would be ive got the wizard of oz too 4k
Thank you for the video, do you think you will do some live video samples as well? I think it would enhance your videos on your Channel.
Just picked this up yesterday for an Easter Sunday movie watching. Glad to hear it’s amazing UHD.
Can I have the digital code if you're not using it?
@@Thedestroyer99955 Sorry, I’ve already redeemed it.
@@greeneye5977 do you any other digital code that you can give me?
@@Thedestroyer99955 I have 2. Wonder Woman 4k (the first one) and Aquaman 4k.
@@greeneye5977 can I have both codes?
