Keith plays JJF in July at Hyde Park in open G so it wasn’t long after it’s conception he changed the song from D to G tuning, someone presumably smarter than me suggested it may have been because it’s easier to have one open tuning, that would be G, rather than G and D possibly causing confusion on a live stage.

Well done. I learnt the song this way some time ago from a Michael Casswell DVD. So many miss the 2 droning E flat strings in the middle of the chord which are important to get the sound. Michael was such a great teacher sadly no longer with us.

I learnt it from Michael too, I didn’t know he was no longer with us, that is really sad. I always thought he was the best teacher on the old Lick Library tutorials where I learnt a lot of songs many years ago. ❤️

Excellent lesson and tone ! Ill have to try that tuning out on my tele.. Thank you !

Thanks and enjoy! Tone is straight from amp, no effects, bit of gain on Fender Hot Rod Deluxe - the tuning makes it sing!

Keef's main riff was played on an acoustic. It's key to sounding like the song.

I play a lot of slide guitar and your lesson here sounds correct in Open E or Open E Flat.
It’s important to play the song though as it feels right or sounds right to the player.
I use very low action guitars for my slide guitar and don’t get fret rattle, it’s all about consistent practice and really enjoying what songs you learn.
    Thanks very much!
This is a great lesson and I just subscribed.
You’ve given me a great amount of guidance here to make it my own.
I’ll learn learn your version with my slide and add it to my other Open E songs: Just Got Paid “ZZ Top” and Slow Ride “Foghat”
I have another guitar set up in a modified Open F for When The Levee Breaks “Led Zeppelin” and a slide version of Iron Man “Black Sabbath”

Open D with a capo at the first works well.

Was Keith playing a telecaster on the song?

    • @GuitarGary.
      @GuitarGary.  3 місяці тому

I don’t know Andrew I’m sure it’s online somewhere if you want to research what he used to record it. When you see Keith he’s normally playing a telecaster so that’s what I did. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for getting in touch 👍🤓🎸🙏

Hi Michael and thanks for this - I’m not a Stones expert but have heard he plays in different open tunings so may even have changed over the years. To me the open chord in the lesson sounds truer to the recording.

Not this one. Keith uses open G primarily but the original Jumping Jack Flash is open E give or take a little, they were not exactly at pitch. Live, the Stones have played Jumping Jack Flash all different ways and none of them sound exactly like the original recording.
