Do you think you'll use auto-switching in its current state?

I agree with the recommendations you're giving to Rode. I'd love for it to literally do the job you'd expect. Thank you for testing and showing the results! Inspired by your setup and studio!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I’ve been looking for auto-switching tests! at the Videocaster and was very excited. But seeing this has definitely made me rethink purchasing this for the time being. I will say it’s definitely impressive to see, but for me it was strange to see it linger on someone that wasn’t speaking than responding “yeah”. Even though you had the wide angle on a lower priority I was surprised to see how much it used that angle… I might have maybe personally made a different choice if I were editing it personally.
Again definitely impressive, but it almost feels to me like it would be difficult to rely on this version of the algorithm as it is currently.
If they do update the algorithm please share an update!
Thanks again! This was super helpful to see.

Thanks for sharing this video. I was very bullish about adding this to the live stream/podcast kit for this exact feature, but it is early in implementation.
Great video again! Makes sense why none of the "major" tech influencers covered this feature.

Rode is pretty good about making firmware updates and I hope improving on this tech is high on their priority list. Thanks for tuning in!

Glad you found it helpful. Really enjoying the device so far and based on other devices, Rode is active with their firmware updates. Looking forward to seeing where they take this.

Good review. I think auto switching looked pretty good in your clip. I come from a Mevo camera background when auto switch’s was super chaotic and this looked so smooth in comparison.

Oh you aren't kidding when you say this is smooth in comparison! There are portions where one person is speaking for quite some time and the camera is pointing to the other person. Rode is on the right path.

@@kriedholm oh yeah. I see what you mean. I guess you’re right it’s close, but it needs another 10% of updates to get it in the perfect switching algorithm. That 10% though is almost at the perfectionist level. :-)

The auto-switching was adequate, especially if you're a one-person operation like many content creators are. There were places where a human would have switched it differently, but I wouldn't have any problem using this clip, especially on a quick turn where you'll be doing little if any post-production. I would prefer if the switcher were "smarter," where 'Sound on Mic 1=Take Camera 1' and then throw in the two-shot on occasion, rather than using some opaque algorithm to decide.

I've been using this device for a few weeks and am not happy with the auto-switching. It just lags too much on someone who isn't even talking to the point where the file is unusable. I even had a viewer comment on one of my podcast videos saying they didn't like the camera switching. I'll keep tweaking and hopefully they release an update. Thanks.

Great Job. How does this compare to the ATEM mini Pro with Auto Switcher using the MixEffect app? I am looking at setting up a Video Podcast and I want to do as little editing as possible. Thx

I wonder if there is a way to set it up to have a lower thirds graphic come up like every 10 times the camera switches to one or the other?

      @kriedholm  3 місяці тому

Good question. Don't believe there's a way to change an overlay based on # of times the camera switches, but could be wrong.

I appreciate your videos. I really would like to get an interlocking acoustic wall like you have. What is it called?

I think it’s supposed to be a room divider. A fun FB marketplace find.
