Really great review. Glad Tom Buck recommended we watch. I was more disappointed that the RCV didn’t have 4 XLR inputs than I was about the 4K. I covered the label and showed a few people your 1080 and 4K side by side and asked them to pick the best image and everyone said the 1080 image. I don’t think most people would notice a big enough difference. Especially watching from a phone
Amazing review. Regarding the 4K I’m a videographer who preaches that good audio quality is even more important than your image. Also I suspect a grater share of your audience will consume your livestream on mobile devices than large TV screens
My first reaction was "hell no for $1200". The features are solid and im really impressed with the pip flexibility! Once you get that setup for your show its probably a one and done kind of thing for most. Very cool, thanks for sharing.
I felt the exact same way when I found out the price! I was like, "Rode has lost their damn mind!" 🤣 Then I got more acquainted with it, and now I totally understand the price!
Thanks for the review! Here’s a question. I don’t think I’ve seen addressed really anywhere. How would you do things like Zoom interviews in a podcast with this unit. Obviously you’d have to connect it to a computer but beyond that I’m a little confused on how that would work.
Hey! It just shows up as a video device, and an audio device, on your computer. You’d select “rodecaster video” as the camera (or “video”) option within zoom and under the “audio” tab you’d select “rodecaster video Stereo”
@@JimHarold you don’t have to. You can run scenes whenever you want, it doesn’t have to be connected to zoom. You just select the video and audio in zoom, then you can run whatever scenes, overlays, and media you want. The best way to think of it is that they are separate things, you don’t need the RCV to make Zoom work and you don’t need Zoom to make the RCV to work. The RCV is just simply a complimentary piece that you would set up on its own and then pair with Zoom.
This is all very nice. But no one shows the final result. There are shots of the device from all sides and views of the management program... but the result? Is it really that shocking? It would be nice to have 10 minutes of production of an event with on one side the management and on the other side the result. Thanks!
@@MuevetePro I am a little confused. Are you talking about the default/program angle? Mine is shown in my demo/setup area. I did show some ISO recording during the first part, then I did some “default”, angle which is the program file. You can literally see me switching through angles at times during the demonstration and that’s the “default”/program angle. Additionally, Tom Buck and a bunch of other people have went live with this device. Essentially, we are showing what you’re asking, but since we were under embargo it’s not like we can take it out in public and do an event. Which I will be using this for events that I do in the near future. I’ll probably shoot a video for it at that time too. Just to be clear, the only footage that was from my camera, and not from the rodecaster video is just simply the side by side that I showed, everything else is from the RCV.
@@AudioHotline True thanks for your reply. What I would like is to see a live performance of the device with 3/4 cameras and understand how disruptive it can be to use Rodecaster Video instead of other brands. I'm talking about Picture in Picture or super source functions. My feeling is that it remains a product suitable for small situations but that in a big event it might not cope it.
RCV - Roadcaster Pro integration. The only issue I see with the RCV is only having 2 headphones. With a 4 person podcast, more headphone mixes would be great. When you plug the two devices can the "share" resources? Could you push one of the HDMI audio feeds from the RCV to headphones on the Roadcaster Pro?
Do you have an SSD, or some sort of memory storage in the USB-C 3 slot? If you do, I would format the drive. It may not accept whatever format it is in. I haven’t had a drive not be recognized but it’s definitely possible.
In all these review videos where Røde is supplying the device. I am noticing those colored HDMI cables. Is Røde supplying those cables with purchase or they're only giving them out with review kits?
You can find them here! bhpho.to/4gNsRTT It says they will be available "soon." Sadly, I am not exactly sure when that is. I would assume they sent the HDMI cables with the review units to prevent the headache of a random HDMI cable not working and a creator blaming it on rode 🤣. Then again, I have tried A LOT of cables with this and they all work, but you never know! For those HDMI cables being 4k 60p compatible, they are actually very reasonably priced!
If you use Rode Central to optimize your audio/mic settings, do they save to the RCV in hardware? Or will you always need Rode Central to be open as you use the device?
I know who this is for: me. I just wish it was full-featured on Linux. The restricted featureset without the software might not be a total deal-killer but it's giving me something to think about.
As of right now, it does not. I looked through all of the different "types" of inputs you can have (Condenser, Dynamic, Instrument, and Line) and the processing that comes with each of them, and it did not have it. I also looked to see if there was some sort of master reverb option, but there wasn't... yet.
Hey, the "monitor delay" you mention can be configured to either be applied on the monitor or not. In this video it is explained. :) ua-cam.com/video/1-PtBYY4Is8/v-deo.htmlsi=soPppk_UoySPAZl5
I might be misunderstanding you… are you talking about the audio delay? I also talk about that in this video. When I was referring to the delay that the monitors outputs have, it’s of the actual physical monitor outputs vs the headphone outputs. It’s something I have talked with Rode about and they are aware of it. In fact, their most recent update ALMOST gets rid of the delay problem completely!
Well, some good news! It seems like they have already resolved the headphone and monitor delay issue... so just ignore that part 🤣
Is this the start of Audio/Video Hotline? 👀
maaaaayyyybe 😏

Does this need a computer to work? can it work with just a monitor?
How do I get the roadcastervideo to record video when I click the record button? For some reason it won't turn on.
