Old men stories are priceless 👍
The best!
The stories are something you treasure to hear more often . You always learn something from a great story teller. I think that separates this from other food channels you get a nice history lesson thrown in there . Good stuff
@@josephcurran231 thank you. Sam will be joining me Friday and the video will be posted Saturday.
Oldtimers are absolutely. priceless. Great episode my friend. Keep up the great work!!
I could sit and listen to Sam tell stories all day long.
He’s definitely been around.
We are headed to Lexington today for a video.
You are a good and patient soul.
I’ve lived in this area since I was 10. I’m 73 now. Haven’t checked out this place even once. I guess it’s time. Love the history lesson. I totally remember going to the Bard theater and getting milkshakes at Creamtop Dairy.
Luv the history!!! Sam is a rockstar!!! "On the floor from the night before" (may have to get a Tshirt with that on it!!!)
Your channel is not only informative, but its also entertaining...Love It!!!
Thank you so much!!
Sam is a great story teller!!!
Kern's still an awesome place and the guest was fantastic. Great vlog 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you!
@@goodallscountrykitchen You're welcome good sir👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks for the beverage sound effects. It's a good review if it has sound effects or singing.
If you like sound effects you’re gonna love the one coming out later today at the 150 QUICK-STOP in Bardstown. Stay tuned!
Great episode Barry! Sam’s a legend and Clay is carrying on the legacy of Kern’s. Lots of neighborhood memories in this episode.
Thank you!
Fun stories Barry and Sam. Thank you. 😍

OMG! Took me 17 years to finish my degree to teach. First job was teaching in a juvenile correction facility. Hame some Louisville stories in the 70’s that aren’t for sharing on utube. Irony is the capitol of life.
Same here. I’ve got stories that would make your blood run cold.
this is my favorite episode God Bless the National Treasure
@@flyinsaucer138 that’s why he’s the national treasure
love Sam what a character and storyteller
For sure. Stay tuned.
His memory is sharp!
Love the vids and the stories. Love the history. That man is a treasure. Thank you both
Oh yeah. The guy in the back with the cowboy hat is Doc. He is the man.
Love the history on this place, really puts in perspective it's place in the neighborhood. Looks like a place someone not from the area would overlook, so a review like this is really helpful.
Definitely is a true neighborhood icon.
The National Treasure knows his history. Looks like a top notch burger, thanks gents!
Yes, and big time yes!
Barry, thanks for the great stories. Nice spot too, loved the bar in the background as you ate. Loved Sam. Karla in Cali.
Glad you enjoyed it
Sam is a great story teller. Excellent video as always.
Thank you!
That burger had quality meat, fresh toppings, and a good toasted bun. They keep it simple and smart. That's why they've been in business for all those decades.
Exactly!!
I hear they only got them “Ice Atlantic Cod” in Louisville. We like Icelandic cod down here in Tennessee😂. You crack me up!!
Drive by there all the time. I’m going to stop and try it now. Love your reviews.
When you stop in.....be sure to tell the cook to clean off the spatula (10:33). I was a short order cook for many years and I would never
use a spatula with that amount of grime on it. One time, another worker complained that I "washed my hands too much" - - HELLO, we
were cooking food for people.....how can you wash your hands too much ?? Any way - that spatula is disgusting !
Thank you!!
One more thing Goodall. Try the Kboy sometime. Kind of a cross between a big mac and a big boy. Then get onions on the bean soup. They shave the onions and its divine. Thanks again.
I will. Thanks!
Detailed story, that was great you documented that story for that community they can all refer back to this video in their community for accurate historical verbal account reference. Nice!
That’s exactly why I had him join me. He has a thousand stories and his recall is amazing.
@@goodallscountrykitchen You doing a great job my brother.
@@dexm8846 thank you!
Great stories. That's what I like. I knew something about Hunter Thompson. I did pay attention.
Glad you enjoyed it
You had me at Brunswagger ..........can`t even find it here in Ca. .......mamby pamby land !
Great history about Kern's and Sam probably can tell stories for days. The food looked delicious and you just can't beat fresh hamburgers. Great review!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the history ❤❤❤❤
That braunschweiger sandwich looked so good I had to fix one for myself.
I've had it all of my life and still love it.
Sometimes you just have to have it!
Love the history of the locations you visit! ooh, I love braunsweiger, their chili, and cheeseburgers, just about anything they have on their menu. My dad went to Kern's for lunch very often from '80's thru 90's and I met him there many a time! He passed in 2001, and every time I drive past there, would bring back fond memories. Great video, thanks!
If you can have a loved one here there are nothing better than good memories.
Your channel is red hot!!! Well deserved attention due to quality local content. Congratulations.
Thank you!
That Chili looks absolutely delicious & the burger oh my goodness! Definitely another great spot to dine!
Thank you!
Great stories and looking forward to O'Bryan's on Flintlock off Dixie!!! Great place for fried fish!
Friday.
Sam’s brother Bob was a great man and I miss talking to him at the track when I was younger.
I grew up eating liver cheese/braunschweiger. Love that stuff!
What a great history story! You know the deal about braunschweiger! mustard and onions! OH BOY!
I absolutely love today’s review and all the history. I could listen to this all night. Your videos are getting better and better. ❤❤❤

What were you doing in ISAP?
Your best review yet ! Love the history from one of our great Louisville seniors! I could listen to Sam's stories all day remember a lot of what he was talking about plus the food looks awesome
Thank you. Sam has a recall like nobody else.
I'm going to need Cliff's Notes on that history lesson! 😅
Was at a Highlands X-mas party this past year and I brought uo the topic of burgers. It was all old white dudes over 60 and they all said Kerns burger was better than Bambi but they all still went to bambi for the onion rings!
Never ate at Kern's, but was a regular at the Bambi in the early to mid 80s. If that burger is as good as a Bambi burger, mott fries and fried mushrooms..it's worth a trip back to Louisville. Keep on eatin.
Do both!
Chili just like I like it, and the fresh meat burger...got to try this place...great review
So good
Love all your videos, planning to visit many of these places. Wondering if you remember a place in J-town called Cash's deli and butcher shop. I worked in J- town a number of years ago and would get lunch there a couple times a week. Great food and big portions for the money. They used to be in the old Long John Silvers building on Taylorsville Rd.
No, sorry, I don’t remember Cash’s.
Great history and burgers at this stop! I like how they cook the burgers right behind the bar upstate New York Style!
Thank you. Louisville is calling your name!
You tell "em Sam!!!
Love Kern’s! You should absolutely try Highlands Bar & Grill on Bardstown. Their food is amazing!
I was born and raised in Harrodsburg many yrs ago then moved away approx 1985. Used to love my mom's chili. Mom put spaghetti in her chili too
. Ive never seen anyone else in 35 yrs of travel ever heard of another area that uses spaghetti in chili since. This vid brought it all back. I would travel home through the yrs and it was nearly impossible to ever eat mom's chili again after eating non-KY chili. Also never heard or seen a banana croquet outside of KY
Nothin like Mom’s cookin!
great review ,that double buger that you had looked real good , and then that other sandwich you had was my father in laws favorite ,i just could not pronounce it Brahm Sweiger , thank you for this review
Great history lesson 😊 them double cheese burgers look killer ! I vote you start you own line of HOT Sauce 😅
Thank you!
They said it was quite the performance when Hunter Thompson was preparing his meal--as only a Hunter Thompson could. He'd work those pepper & salt shakers, very meticulous performance art.
Absolutely loved the history stories and Sams conviction about this burger being the best! Great storytelling today and I think the haters will be quiet now that you've said you relish their enthusiasm.
Glad you enjoyed it!
When my dad was on chemo, he'd go through half a tube of braunschweiger with cheese and crackers in one sitting. It's about the only thing he liked after the chemo had changed his tastebuds. I like braunschweiger myself, but not so heavily. I'm still working up the courage to get a fried braunschweiger sandwich at Check's. I think that'll be what I get next time I go to Check's, but I need to try this at Kern's with that beer mustard. Love some good mustard. When I first had Kern's burger, I don't think I've ever had a juicier burger. The plate was drenched with drippings from the burger. The place isn't anything fancy. Just a good old fashioned neighborhood tavern. We're losing some of our neighborhood pubs, it seems. I definitely want to keep these places around, because they're important to maintaining the character of the different neighborhoods and communities of this city.
Very well written story. Thank you for sharing.
Hey FRIEND is this song I like it's called 2 steps for my HATERS !!! Keep doing yo thang my friend !!!
Oh, you can count on it. Thanks!
Thanks guys we are heading this way in September can’t wait to try some of these spots. We like Local spots not Chains💪🏻💪🏻
Our pleasure!
Sam was born to be behind the camera. He’s a natural, without hesitation, clear announcer, at ease, and extremely detailed, windy but great.
Barry, I never saw you standing that long keeping your mouth quiet but the smirk, biting your lip, laughing silently, was priceless!
Oh, I forgot the cheese burger, liver pudding sandwich, & soups looked delicious.
Never had spaghetti in chili.
The End…. 🤣😂😊😊
Sometime try Skyline Chili if you are anywhere near one. It's a Cincinnati chili with spaghetti noodles.
Yeah, I’m not use to keeping quiet that long. Sam’s coming back again with me tomorrow. It’ll be aired on Saturday morning.

I like to see a triple snapping turtle bite one day LOL.
Good history lesson Sam! Secrets? 😂😂
You know it!
Nice!
I look at all of the Older folk's that are Still living today as being history book's that have a Whole-lot of remembered American history in their memory Banks ! And this here Younger generation today needs to really take'out Some necessary time to tap'off into their treasured history Stories before they are long Gone, and Also before those Older folk's have actually transitioned Over to that after life Platform there as Well. 👍👌💯% 💙'd It.
Amen to that!
