Magnus outdoor bouldering videos are rare, but such a treat. I understand, that filming these exclusively would not be a hit with your subscriber base and would get dull. But sprinkling in one or two or even a miniseries where you try your hardest on a sick project will always be welcomed by a good chunk of the audience.
And I guess in terms of filmmaking it would be a very interesting challenge for you as well to make it visually appealing and engaging with all the uncontrollable factors of the outdoors

Magnus, it is interesting that you speak about your tendonitis (tennis elbow by the looks of it), since you seem so indestructible to us as your viewers. It would be very cool, and insightful, to have your thoughts and/or method on recovering from it, or at the least finding a solution for it. So many of us climbers deal with tendonitis, and there are so many different ways of resolving it so it would be interesting to see how you would go around recovering from it. Keep up the awesome work, love the second channel!

Would actually love to hear how you deal with with tendinitis aside from just a long break. Have been dealing with it for quite some time and all I’ve ever hears is just to give it a 4-6 week break.

@@Gatoredwards Maybe I can help you a little bit. I overdid my training once and had severe tendonitis in my left triceps that would not go away with just rest. My opinion regarding any inflammation of tendons is that rest is one of the worse things you can do.
The solution to my tendonitis was basically stretching the muscle with very light exercise. To be exact i did reverse pushups while standing, leaning on a wall. To apply that to other muscle groups just do the reverse of that muscles job. for the bicep that would be a reverse pull-up, but in such a fashion that it is very light and you progressively increase the exercise's difficulty. I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT overexert during recovery. If you use to much weight you will aggravate your injury.
I have read that most tendonitis stems from overused muscles that tense up and cause overstretching of tendons. This in turn causes irritation in the tendon which leads to inflammation and tendonitis. It is quite common in tennis.
If you are prone to tendon inflammation I strongly recommend to stretch after every session.

Was thinking the same! I have been dealing with tendonitis for at least 20 years on and off, and it prevented me from bouldering for at least the last 10 years. Only recently I started bouldering anyway, as I am adamant to learn how to cope with it. Just love it too much.
And as Dylan said, you seem so indestructible, it actually gave me hope I can keep on bouldering as well! Thanks for sharing! ❤

@@MCbobo132much appreciated. I workout quite a bit and climb 2-3 times a week. I know slowing down to recover is the best way to go with some targeted stretching and recovery for it. I think the mindset of taking time off is the hard part. But will definitely try this.

Cool to see more of the stuff you did in Japan. The mellow tone of these super chill outdoor videos are my favorite. Please keep them coming.
On another note, you describing filming schedules on trips like this puts things into perspective a lot more. It can be hard for the audience to see just how jam-packed the trip is when the videos are released on a more spread out schedule. It totally makes sense though that you’d want to get the most you can out of the days you have there. I will say that some of the more recent videos have left me wondering if you’re a bit tired or stressed or something as they feel almost rushed in a way, but you mentioning how much sleep you’ve had in addition to days and days straight of filming kind clears up that concern (😅). I think that’s why I enjoyed this video the most out of the ones you’ve posted from Japan so far-the vibe was just so chill. 👍🏼

Not only that, but it's just a local train from Tokyo! Extremely easy to get to from anywhere in Tokyo. The guidebook is in Japanese and English which makes it easy to speak with locals also doing the same problems.

I have dealt with tendonitis before and the best solution I have found are eccentric exercises with an assist in the contraction motion of the muscle. It depends how severely degraded your tendon has become because if it is really severe the best exercise is isometric exercises till the tendon can start to take some load. Then move to slow eccentrics, I use like 5-10 pound weights (use whatever weight is considered light for you) with negative wrist curls only and a self assist on the way up. You can either do either lights weight sets of 15 for like 3 sets in a day coming to 75 reps or do heavier weight and less reps. It can differ from person to person. I would also recommend stretching the muscles all around the area. I had lateral and medial epicondylitis (golfers and tennis elbow) so I would stretch my finger, wrist, shoulder, and neck. It is all one big long chain that works together. I promise if you are consistent with stretching and exercising and PROPERLY RESTING it will heal. A proper rest for a tendon is around i believe 36-48 hours for net positive healing. Leaning on the side of 48-72 hours is better but too much rest will let the muscle degrade. It is important to make a schedule and be consistent. It is finally also very important to start slower rather than faster. If you go too fast you will just end up aggravating the nerve and make things worse. Feel out your body and trying to understand it. It is okay sometimes to work through a little pain if you find that it is getting better and the pain is dissipating. Make sure NOT to do your exercises to failure because then your tired muscles is going to leave all the work for your tendon which is already full of micro tears. You can also do soft tissue work around the different muscles and look for trigger points. I did a lot of fascial release work because I felt like I had a lot of fascial adhesions throughout my muscles. I use either my own hands, balls, and blades to strip muscles. If you want the best source on tendinopathy I would recommend the book Overcoming Tendonitis by Steven Low. It is really educational guide to understanding the science behind tendons and how they work. I know what it feels like to have that burning hot wire running through my whole arm. It really sucks. Best of luck to all of you dealing with those squeaky tendons. I would honestly love to hear the opinion of a world class climber who has definitely dealt with this issue before.

I really appreciated you mentioning your tendinitis - I’ve been getting it badly recently and been wondering how the pros avoid it. Would love for you to talk about it and provide any suggestions on how to handle it!

Magnus you have been an enormous inspiration for me. I have booked my first bouldering session for this Saturday and I'm so excited but a bit nervous. Thank you for all your wonderful videos
Update: I did my session and it was so much fun! I climbed my first boulder and I have an enormous respect for all climbers (even more than before because I’ve tried it myself now) because damn they’re strong! I can’t wait to go back to get better and stronger! 🙂
