The best boulderer in Japan and works full time. Give the man a bigger sponsor so we can see him crushing 9a's. Also the first time I see anyone repeating one of his hardest climbs to spice up an interview.
I'm seriously beginning to wonder if suppressing your ego is the special sauce to climbing hard. Ryuichi Murai and Shawn Rabatou are shining examples of this. You can tell from their attitude before, during, and after the climb that sending or not sending won't make or break their world. Just an observation.
I don't think it's a secret it's moreso just more commonly found in the climbing world than other places. I think 95% of pro climbers are all genuinely kind and humble people. One of the things i love about the people ive met climbing
I'd imagine if not sending would break your world, you'd simply stop trying. "Failure" is an essential part of progress, so you just have to accept that. If you don't, you're just holding yourself back.
This was such a good episode, thank you! The v16 was so crazy! Awesome job folks! A general observation: hearing climbers talk about the shoes they're helping to improve all sound exactly the same & every brand has a "softer" shoe for "modern indoor climbing."
Well the Regulus is a generally "stiff" shoe having thicker rubber which is meant to seize on smaller edges and a full length outsole plus a hard midsole. Unparallel seem to have only recently truly entered into the more flexible and less structured shoe market with the Souped Up and Flagship.
I love the humbleness. Jiu Jitsu has been a weekly humbling experience for me for so many years now. With finding climbing recently it has been hard to find partners that are humble and just ok with pushing hard when needed but accepting where I am as a climber. I started outside and there was no competitive nature to it. My friend left and it left me going to the gym finding partners to climb with. Chasing grades is something that doesn’t interest me but training hard has been my whole life. Finally found a great group of people to climb with on the regular and we push one another but safety and staying healthy is priority. Such a great short Doc to watch and remind myself once again why i fell in love with this and many other disciplines in life. Thank you
Very nice video expose! Great work Teresa and all involved. Please offer details and credits for the silent filmmakers that did such a terrific job capturing this 48HRS, if nowhere else in the description area, since they are as much superstars as Murai!
Japan climbers are amazing and Murai-san especially so! I went there recently and will be posting a video of some outdoor (and indoor) climbs I did while there!
One of my fav videos, the time lapses and editing is on point. Also big love to the Asian climbing community, they're so humble and nice natured. I learn so much from being around them - not so much as climbing but in general just bettering myself as person.
This cat really climbs just twice per week?! That is exactly what I need to hear! Sometimes seems like everyone into climbing has no work/family commitments and just climbs/trains every day. I am lucky if I have the spare time and money to climb once per week. Had been previously looking on the bright side by saying that as a middle age newbie my infrequent climbing might at least help protect me from over-use injuries… now I can also tell myself that there’s a ton of potential for improvement even if your time on the wall is very limited.
8:07 This is BY FAR the single craziest move I have seen in outdoors bouldering! I had to rewind this many times just to confirm if I saw correctly. What the hell man?!
Epic video-thank you. He is beastly strong with stronger humility: epitome of a true climbing icon. Seeing Floatin live was crazy rad. Hello Kitty merch 😂
I got my hands on some Souped Ups back around Xmas before they released. I find them to be pretty great outdoor shoes as I mainly climb outside. They are the spiritual successor of the 5.10 Team Blacks and the climbing shoe market has had a massive void in that "extremely soft aggressive shoe" market ever since they stopped making the Team Blacks. If its a climb where I don't strictly need stiff shoes, I'm wearing the Souped Ups outside.
@dailyclimbing Even he said ”こわ” I have been caught many times at the top cleaning the top thinking "man, what a rookie move" 😀 Glad to see him doing it on a V16 😂
Daniel Woods was doing laps on sleepwalker when trying to FA return of the sleepwalker. Can't remember the exact amount but he said he sent it something like 7 times in a single session or something ridiculous.
@@ComputerManDanMiller Oh duh. I had the same thought of if this was a world first V16 repeat and then I remember ROTSW lol. Also Nate Williams has been projecting ROTSW for 2 years now and he repeats Sleepwalker most times he goes out as far as I know. I'd imagine a few others have also repeated it working on ROTSW. Probably first non Sleepwalker 16 to get repeated though.
I remember back in the day, like 2015 I saw documentary regarding Japanese climbers and they were often outcasts of society that chose to smoke weed even though it's illegal and highly punishable. Climbings gotten more established as a sport and mainstream in a short period of time.
No questions about his current projects, future 9A ideas or anything.. Guess the shoes were more important. Gotcha. 48 hours with Unparalled Shoes - Presented by Mr. Murai should have been the title.

Totally would watch more videos with Ryuichi. Seems so chill and humble.
👍🏻
@@pepprdgefarm I was on a Japan trip and I met him at a bouldering gym and asked him for a selfie during one of his breaks, super chill dude.
@@lle9058 I think a Saturday
Did he just sent Floatin' again after the FA? Man's a beast
😃
Might be the first person to downgrade their own FA
@@sweatfootm floatin is v17 for sure. That boulder is beyond impressive
I laughed so hard “hey i m gonna show you this crazy FA I did and send it again”
heck yea bro! got to. if you can’t climb it again can you even really climb it?
Floatin' has got to have some of the most beautiful moves out there.. Also the perfect name!
👆its incredible 🙏
Dude's working full time and stronger than any pro climber
Ikr, like how
Any pro climber is a bit much, lets say stronger than 99%, maybe less. Still very impressive.
Asian work ethic is second to none.

I get this feeling about Aiden Roberts and Will Bosi as well, they seem super happy to be out there climbing.

My ego is so out of control that i felt bad and worthless seeing him fail ... imagine that
Sharma is the king of that! Sending the hardest boulders and route at the time and never did hangboarding just "having fun on the rock". Love it
V16 out of the back pocket is nuts
floatin' does its name justice. Definitely my favorite outdoor boulder to see completed, more people need to do it.
One of the coolest videos I’ve seen…great job Teresa. And Hugo if he was filming.
These 48h videoes might be the best climbing videos on youtube! I love it!
Just re-do v16 for the interview - sick.

dude, how anyone can do the moves on floating without their fingers exploding is beyond me.
What unparallels are those?
The white ones with a red tag - the new Qubit the ones he's climbing Floatin' with are the Unparallel Souped UP
Can I get the ROKDO T-shirt?? Please help.
does anyone know what northface pants ryuichi are wearing?
What are those shoes he’s wearing? They look like hiangles but unparalleled?
Ah they say in the video 😄 looks cool I’m excited

Where does he work?
At a climbing gym in Tokyo
Urban Base Camp in Shinjuku I believe
Teresa rocks the rock
Who’s doing the filming? Hugo?
👌
Does anyone know 30 seconds how many reps, asking for a friend?
Bro grinds on the weekends only. Guess you don't need fancy workout programs. Ofc he have talent of his own
English is not easy for most Japanese. So if you go there, remember that. Google translate app is useful.
I got scammed, I thoughts I came for 48hours, and see only 20min
Casual day send of a v16, no biggie
typical japanese boulder. v16 with another v16 top out stacked on top.
Wait what, only climb twice a week :o
How tall is Ryu?
Is she smiling a lil more with Ryuichi lol
Bro is the climber
This is so sick.
or his name?
Why doesn't the presenter bend her ankles when climbing? just pointing the toes directly into the rock lol
