Silence is definitely a 9c, because the amount of time Adam spent on it first, and Ghisolfi after, proves the route is harder than 9b+. But B.I.G. will eventually get downgraded, because it can't take two trips to climb a 9c. Time will tell!
@@kiefmanning7394Adam said that this climb was only first possible because it suited him very well and still gave it a 9c. I don’t think he’ll downgrade it
I was there with my wife in September last year and we saw Sthephano personely on this route. At his first day we remain the only 2 more people in the cave. Just Stephano with Sara and us. It was quite great to see one of the world's best climber in the probably hardest route in the world. Of course later on it was even greater to see Jakob on 1 side and Stephano just right from him on the 2 side..:-) I talked to Stephano and Sara very shortly, just few words basically, but I have to say they are both very nice and kind people. Wish you a lot of luck Stephano on this route. Hopefully, we will meet there again..:-) Even 7a - 8a climber like me can enjoy Flatanger extremely, there is so many great routes in these grades..:-)
Yeah but he really means 2 more seasons. Depending on how long Stefano is in Norway each season will usually determine how long it takes someone to do something like this. If he only went 2 weeks/season, I could see that. Obviously this is monumental progress though, and it didn't seem like Stefano was this close before!
I feel like the whole of the climbing community is behind you on this one Stefano. Everybody wants to see you succeed and send this. Do it. You can. We all know it. We're behind you.
I don't think I ever fully appreciated how horizontal the main crux is. It always looked like 30* overhanging, but in this video it looked nearly entirely horizontal.
When the text appeared that the static rope is after an 8b route i just thought if i would skip the first 8a part of my climbing projects i would be just rappeling down from the anchor 🤣So if silence drains you just drop by and we can rappel together maybe less satisfying but also less straining ;). Nice video as always cool vibes.
8:24 Coincidence running into the "local punter" trying silence😂. Also, this is what Jimmy Webb was talking when he shared his perspective on what sets great climbers apart from good climbers. Silence is going to get repeated!
This thing is so hard even though you know it’s possible. Adam’s ability to keep trying for days and weeks on end with nothing but his belief in the possibility of this section going is remarkable.
You guys are the best! Seeing professional athletes not only competing against but also having fun with each other is amazing - together we can achieve more in this sport, keep at it! See you in Innsbruck! Cheers!
The mental fortitude required to dedicate years of your prime as a climber to one project, not knowing if you will ever be able to succeed is unbelivable. Aim for the stars Stefano, we wish you the best!
Incredible vid, so much stoke and drive to send. Stefano and Jakob are outrageously strong so their effort required speaks volumes to Adam Ondra's strength, drive and vision for the send. Silence will stand the test of time as one of the greatest achievements of our sport. Hoping for the repeat!
You got this stefano,, dont forget to enjoy the moment, sometimes in climbing when you too focus with idea to do the climb make you forget to enjoy the moment and proggres
❤ At final attempt starting further down and connect to crux when you got to the crux trying hard I felt my muscles tense like hell and fingers began to sweat 😅. I wanted to chalk up 😂👍 To see the progress is really exciting! Love it!
Man he just unintentionally showed me the massive difference in talent between him and me (8a climber) when he said he just discovered that changing slightly the angle of his hand had a massive impact like that microbeta was what made my 7c-8a routes possible. Its so amazing to hear him say it unironically

Adam Ondra makes it a no-hands knee bar just before the crux, calms down a fair bit in that few seconds, then makes the intro intro the crux quick and with ease. I hope Stefano can improve his rest there as well.
If I remember right, he actually rest there for a few minutes. He had to do some training specifically to stay for longer than a few seconds in that kneebar,
@@j.gonzalez2543 There are a few kneebars in that route. This specific one is not very good, as Stefano has told us in the video. Adam rested there no-hands, body full down just a few seconds. The other knee bars are better.
@@tristanmurphy7337 Sorry, I found it an interesting thing, and wanted to share it with other people being interested. Stefano and anybody else who knows just a bit about climbing hard would agree it's a huge difference being able to rest like this just before that hard of a crux sequence or not. There is no doubt Stefano is thinking every day about whether and how he could improve that rest position. It's the decisive question now.

Stefano! Thank you for these incredible insights. If you ever find yourself in a spot, where you don't know what to post anymore, I would highly appreciate to get some personal experiences regarding rest and the mental aspect, which has to be enormous while challenging yourself at Silence. Like how do you rest, how do you distance yourself from a project like this to not think about before going to sleep lol or how do you deal with the downs? Would be super interesting and helpful to know. Wishing you all the best!
The rock in Flatanger just looks incredible! The different camera angles of the climb really show how cool it is. Obviously very, very hard, too, of course!
@Stefano have you tried handjamming between your shin and the rock for the kneebar rest to releive the crunching muscles? or wrapping your arm around you shin? whatever the solution, If you unlock the secrets to that rest you're gonna send it!!! Adam's way is certainly effective, but must be tricky to get in and out from
Super inspiring to see you so determined and making progress. This was one of the coolest climbing videos that I've watched in a minute. Really appreciate your work.
What an amazing video!! Love to see the awesome friendship between all of you world class climbers. Joking around that they better start on another project 😊And huge congratulations on your progress on this insanely hard route! I hope that on your next trip, you will all run into each other again 💪
I saw Stefano and Sara a few days ago bouldering in DAV Monaco di Baviera. It surprised me that they spoke fluently Norwegian with each other. When I left and saw Stefano selling Laxbröd outside (very tasty), I knew something had happened in Norway.
Awesome video, I hope you eventually get the send! I wonder if one day when there are more 9c's getting climbed Silence will end up getting upgraded! It looks absolutely ridiculous.
Great progress but special thank you for showing how it is going and documenting this so well. No matter fail or success, this is awesome to watch. Best of luck with the next olympic quali and with Silence later on.

Stefano.

Not a spoiler: the shots taken from under around and after 18:00 are incredible! Massive props to the film crew. Congrats on 100k also :)
Right?! Really highlights the “wtf is he holding onto!?”
Agreed, it's the first time I've seen the crux from that angle and it really shows how overhanging, complex and sustained that sequence is. Bravo!
That cave is unreasonably large.
