For public transport I suggest to buy 24/48 h ticket, to prevent the hassle. Gulyas still a soup traditionally, as stew is called 'pörkölt" but westerners don't know soups, because the kitchen is different - thats why usually it is sold by the same name. The bird is called Turul, our historical totem animal - but under Habsburg rule, they were turned into vultures, instead of the original griffs, or eagles.
From the Fishermen's bastion you should have just walked over to the castle, you do not need to come down the hil and go back again. The whole thing is called castle district up on the hill.
We left the bastion because all the groups of tours and school trips where heading to there next! So we thought we would let it get a little quieter and come back! Thank you for the advice tho my friend

If the weather stays like that you totally don’t need any jeans! Never pack till the day before only take essential’s and buy anything you need there H&M markets or 2nd hand shops
If you knew the hotel history where you were staying! A few years ago, it was in ruins, as if it had been bombed. There were hardly any big houses in Budapest when a famous count built a bath. Two hundred year old buildings that were renovated a few years ago and turned into a hotel.
Its a great city to visit and quite easy to get around once you understand the public transport. I loved it, so much history. We went into the suburbs to Momento Park, and stopped half way to a shopping mall. New winter coats bought at half the price in the UK 😁
But i think it is not a safe country , human rights are fight and u get to jail if u are gays . So it is a little dangareous to visit, i would love to see budapest but what gurantee i have not to finish in a jail?

Hi Dan, the metro line which you used is NOT the 2nd oldest line in Europe. That was the Line No. 2. (Red), which was built in the seventies. It is the Line No. 1 (Yellow), which you think of. It runs from Vörömarty Square to Mexican Street, crossing the 2nd Line at Deák Square. It was opened in 1896, really second after London. The details vary, but the reason is greed and the stupid fulfillment of it combined with sending a message of regression and return to a "conservative" society where they are the ruling nobles. Like, really there are at least 50 sites like this, (or a lot more depending what we define as damage and privatisation). You might have to use some site-translator, but I can list them for you if you want to cover it.
