Vanessa says she was attacked after her dog ran into Doucette’s backyard on June 20, 2020. Toronto police have confirmed that Shelley Doucette has been arrested and charged. When I arrived to her house, NO ONE was helping but neighbours were outside just watching.. I found her in her kitchen, all she could do was move her fingers to communicate that she could hear me.
HE BROKE THE BONE UNDER HER EYE AND GAVE HER SEVERAL STITCHES!! HE NEEDS TO BE CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER.
What makes me so angry is once she was unresponsive he still kept beating her, which means she could have DIED right then and there and no neighbours came to help her.
She literally couldn’t see nor could walk for weeks, I really hope the Justice system does their part on putting this man away.
We need to make noise on this. He should have been charged with attempted murder. I'm really tired of offenders like him doing this more than once. My neighbours all looked the other way when my ex would abuse me. Society has nearly thrown away it's responsibility of looking after each other.
Canadians think were exempt from racism we forget how these people treat first nations.

True...but she went home called her friend, the friend came over and then called 911. Hopefully this is a lesson to others because in court the defence is going to use that stuff "If it the injuries were really as serious as you say and you feared for your life, why wasn't your first call to 911? I mean, your neighbours were watching this as it all went down but they didn't call 911. Let's assume that you're neighbours are jerks, okay? Or maybe they didn't want to get involved. Or were paralyzed with shock or fear? When you got home, you could've called 911. Or when you had the wherewithal to call your friend you could have told your friend to call 911. Instead you waited for your friend to arrive, at your house, and then she called 911. My thinking is, if this scenario, this crime your accusing my client of was as bad and as serious as you say, why did it take such a long time to call 911? 'Cause if being beat within an inch of my life, to the point of unconsciousness isn't an emergency, I don't know what is."
All that to say this is a good lesson for people. Don't wait to call 911 'cause you allow guys like this (alleged) dirtbag to have wiggle room with "reasonable doubt" and all that or it gets downgraded to lesser charges.

@@mohavehdesert4181 Sure there are valid reasons for some to distrust the police in certain situations (say a mental health breakdown) but in a life or death situation you have to call 911 and let the chips fall where they may and deal with the aftermath afterwards. Unless you're engaged in criminal activity (e.g. you're a drug dealer who someone just stole drugs off of and so you risk implicating yourself) if it's that dire of an emergency, people should be calling 911 and teaching people otherwise is not helpful. Yes there have been gross cases of misconduct but law enforcement and the public literally have thousands of interactions per day most without incident. It's those rare interactions that go horribly wrong (and yes should be dealt with) that get the publicity.

Absolutely, they could have charged him with attempted murder or something far more serious. He should not be on the streets. Canada pretends like this stuff doesn’t happen here. I feel like she is being re-victimized by the lack of action and support on the legal side of things. There needs to be a systemic overhaul. That individual should have their charges upgraded to attempted murder because that interaction could’ve taken Vanessa’s life. Thank God that she survived. I'm not in the least bit surprised that this occurred in Toronto. Over the years, I have noticed a growing number of racist rhetoric, graffiti and assaults occurring in Toronto. The city is nowhere near as tolerant as it used to be-many prayers out to her for her full recovery.
Is it racist though? I've seen many ridiculous stories involving dogs. This one is shocking because her dog didn't even do anything. Usually altercations are caused by dog attacks. That being said I think it is dangerous to attribute every occasion in which the motive is unknown to racism.

Hopefully this is a lesson to others; always call 911 IMMEDIATELY. If they put you on hold/take their time then they're at fault. In this case, no one called while it was happening, she went home, called her friend, her friend came over, then her friend called 911. If you wait that long and the incident is no longer "active" it becomes an investigation and so they're going to take their time because they don't need to be their in that moment (i.e. the assault has already taken place the guy is in his home, he hasn't fled or is on the run).

People need to know HOW the law works so that they don't have to rely on the system to protect them. All the hoods I know would handle the situation themselves.
