    after practicing his method with plastic balls for a couple weeks, i decided to try it live with just a set of irons from the front tees where i play. i hit the ball more solidly than any time in my previous 20plus yrs of golf and was lucky to have a career putting round at the same time. shot a 66 and became a terminal ballard fan. very simple swing.

    I tried this exact thing today on my own. I noticed on the backswing my left elbow pointed out away from my body so I tried what he said about keeping my left arm tucked tight. (VJ used to practice this so that is what I was thinking of) I hit one of the best drives of my life and my approach shot I was pin high but just off the green I think due mostly to my alignment. Anyway this video is what I was looking for as a reference! Thanks.

    Well I was one shanked ball away from quitting golf until I saw this video. I had somehow managed to forget how to hit my irons and tried every possible to get the ball off the ground but nothing worked. Now I'm hitting straight as hell and very consistent. Only thing is I'm not hitting as far as I did before I lost my swing, but I'm sure with time and practice ill get the distance down. I highly recommend trying this if you're struggling with your irons.

    My first golf lessons, were in college, where Fred Warren the golf coach, emphasized the left arm! It controls posture, impact, speed, and accuracy! To many people 99.9 percent of golfers, think right side, and 99.5 percent of them flip their right hand! This video is not a coach, but if you can understand the role of the left arm, you are on the way to being a ball striker!

  • @amfohr

    Not sure, think there is some rotation of the arm to the top of the swing.

  • @MrLuigiFercotti
    @MrLuigiFercotti 14 років тому +1

    This is the hole pont of connection. To inhibit rotation of the humerus (upper arm bone), especially in the backswing. If you rotate the humerus going back, you're going to have to rotate going back down, and that is a real mother to do with any consistancy. Plus if you don't re-rotate, you will have to get over-active with the hands to square up the face. If there is one thing you can take from Ballard, it's this concept.

    • @darylwilliams5770
      @darylwilliams5770 5 місяців тому

      Sounds very ...humerous 😂...
      Looks like he doesn't turn his shoulders and that keeps the club going straight back.
      Seems like when you turn or twist the humerus get activated and you are dead ...using the small muscles..and the club gets stuck behing, under, blocked and flipped

  • @JohnSchwartzMarketing
    @JohnSchwartzMarketing 13 років тому +1

    Your elbows are at the end of the bone that connects to your shoulder. There are no moving pieces in the elbow to allow for any pronation or supination, but there are in your shoulder joints (rotator cuffs). So the idea of keeping your elbow pointing at the ground is not necessarily bad advice, but it is not controlled by the elbow. It's 100% controlled by the shoulder. If you're going to try to do what he's suggesting, focus on what your shoulder joint is doing, not the elbow.

  • @kennyg63
    @kennyg63 14 років тому

    You are 100 percent correct ! The reason I think he sometimes gets a bad rap is he is a method teacher. He believes in one method of swinging a golf club. We know that Sam Snead and Lee Trevino swung the club diffrently. He does not accept any other method than connection.

    this stops that chicken wing on the follow through as well, many have their elbow pointed toward the target on the follow through, you lose lots of power and have very inconsistent flight paths. When I learned to do this I also found that concentrating on the left elbow down allowed for an easier follow through with my hips/shoulders, as soon as you chicken wing your arms and body slow down and don't allow a follow through.

    "Golfers," who disagree with Mr. Ballard's method, are what the sports community refers to as "Weekend Warriors!!" Look at the professional golfers, Mr. Ballard has worked with...Thank you! People who disagree with this concept, disagree with the greatest ball strikers of All-time! "Flippers" and "Scoopers," who make up 98% of "golfers?" These people need a course in Physiology! Hands make up 1/4 of the human body's bones (27 in each hand!) Just in the palms alone there are over 17,000 nerves! The golf grip is in the fingers, and the can: Bend, make a fist, grip, grasp, and fold fingers! Ben Hogan as well as Mr. Ballard, do not want, "THE TAIL WAGGING THE DOG!" "Flipping" and "Scooping," used by 98% of "Hackers" Is erratic, and produces many results, none consistent! The "golfer," who uses their hands to manipulate the golf club, has a hard time breaking 90! Flipping and scooping is not referred to anywhere in Mr. Hogan's book! It was written regarding fundamentals in the golf swing! Simple and direct! Advice to "Flippy," and "Scoopy," the forearms rotate through the golf swing! NOT THE FOREARMS! great VIDEO Mr. Ballard!

    • @davidfocusedinwithprecisio6270
      @davidfocusedinwithprecisio6270 Рік тому

      No, the golf grip is in the palms so the club can't waver(open or close) like Ballard said, "square to square". You see all the flipping comes from the wavering of the clubface or the opening and closing of the clubface which is from the gripping in the fingers. You never grip in the fingers, always in the palms. Moe Norman the best ball striker the world will ever see.

    Do what works for you, trying to copy someone's swing is stupid. I didn't start playing great golf until I just experimented and found what works for me. I'm 52 years old and bend my right arm severely on my back swing and hit the ball longer and straighter than when I try to keep it straight. To he honest I think today's teachers really hurt people from playing good/great golf. Imagine Arnold Palmer getting a lesson today.

    Jimmy Ballad once said he was never going to write a golf book because he could put all the necessary information on one page. Well here it is:
    Think initially 'zipping up' upper arms by your sides as Jimmy shown. Then think left elbow 'down' at the end of the backswing and then the right elbow 'pointing' at your target at the completion of your swing. And allow your body to be responsive to your intentions of your your left and right elbows during your golf swing. And there you have what I call. "L/R Elbows Body Responsive Theory of Everything in A Golf Swing." Now isn't that simple? Thank you very much.

  • @A-FrameWedge
    @A-FrameWedge 4 роки тому

    But Hogan pronted his left forearm especially from about halfway in backswing to the end of his backswing and continued this pronation which made the shaft more shallow the club until just before the club was parallel to the ground on the downswing where he supinated his left forearm to impact.

    This guy is a genius. The left elbow controls the golf club as long as you grip the golf club with your left hand only. That is some good insight. If old Kenny Rogers here really wants to rock the world of golf then he must make a video in which he holds the golf club with his right hand only and then demonstrate how the right elbow controls the golf club. That would be a big moment in golf instruction.....

    • @whetedge
      @whetedge 9 років тому

      It doesn't matter if the right hand is on the club or not. The left, or leading arm, defines the radius of the swing, and Ballard is correct in wanting to keep the radius the same throughout. The leading elbow down is what keeps the club face square to it's arc, which, once learned, makes for a very powerful and accurate strike.

    • @bobbiebobbejaan9519
      @bobbiebobbejaan9519 9 років тому

      whetedge Then how to you explain that some of the best ball strikers had what is called a "short left arm"?
      Ps: as long as people like you believe the secret lies in the left hand then RIGHT hand hitters like me will always outdrive you by at least 50-70 yards because lag lies in the angle of the right hand when in the hitting zone

    • @whetedge
      @whetedge 9 років тому

      bobbie bobbejaan You are assuming the right is passive? I, and Ballard, state the left "defines the radius". Explaining the function of the left in no way suggests what the role of the right is. In my world, and Ballard's, both arms function as one unit, and in my swing (or the one I aspire to), the arms are not doing the swinging, but are being swung by the large core muscles. Maintaining the structure of the arms *allows* the right to unload at precisely the right time, and it does so with astounding power.
      Your question seems contradictory when you ask about the "short left arm". "Defining the radius" implies a short left arm, because if you try to extend it from the shoulder, you lost your pure radius, and indeed then have to pull the left arm in order to make a return motion. No where did I or Ballard suggest you swing with just the left. In fact, I often have to remind myself to initiate the swing by moving the right shoulder up and back. Keeping the left connection (I prefer to express it as keeping the left humerus leveraged against the rib cage), automatically keys the left shoulder in the direction of the return swing.

    • @bobbiebobbejaan9519
      @bobbiebobbejaan9519 9 років тому

      whetedge
      Lemme guess...Ballard also recogns the head must stay in one place and not dip like Rorry and Tiger is doing?

    • @whetedge
      @whetedge 9 років тому

      bobbie bobbejaan What is it you have against Ballard? He allows for the head to follow the spine, back away from the target on the up swing (rather than setting up with a "tilt"), but keeping it level to the ground. Athletes like Tiger and Rory dip into the return swing in order to accelerate the unwind, but it can lead to trouble and injury, and it is a product of a not consistent radius.

      To supinate, the left arm must externally rotate, meaning the elbow must also rotate. Lead wrist flexion alone does not equal a square clubface. Try a drive hold with only left wrist flexion (dead in the water). Learn how to supinate before anything, then add left wrist flexion to deloft face. This guy is trying to give us a simplified feel, and it totally works.
