I think it's less that and more, if you spend a lot you'll get higher cost offers. but if you stop spending, you start getting cheaper offers to get you to spend again. Marvel Snap has personalized offers like that too. but it's at least not a pay to win game and those offers can be skipped entirely.

There are many good fame in Mobile like Mini metro and other game and Hades Dead Cell but this game do so much marketing that those game just didn’t get noticed enough

They do this to another one of their games Star Trek Fleet Command. Such a great Franchise (Star Trek) and the game has so much promise but is poorly ran, completely predatory and the prices of the packs are beyond ridiculous vs the content within them. Even worse they let those who pay a lot to be the strongest run rampant without any moderation. They eventually merge two dying servers due to this issue, wait till they get enough spenders and rinse and repeat. I found it very interesting they use a tactic in monopoly go that they use in Star Trek Fleet Command, they use conflict between players to boost sales, to get you to buy in to become stronger, only that it's a non stop loop that will never end. It's very sad.
Charging or paying for star trek microtransactions is so contrary to the philosophy of Trek that I don't know how anyone could sleep at night doing it

On one hand I count myself as quite lucky. I was playing FIFA when ultimate team first came in and experience first hand how dangerous this kind of consumer manipulation is.
I was going through depression, love football and ultimate team got its hooks in. Sunk probably about £500 into it, which isn’t as insane as some other numbers but I was a student at Uni so it was still a lot and this was like 15 years ago.
I eventually had the wtf moment why am I wasting this money that a lot of people get and although it’s money wasted, the silver lining is I now have no tolerance for anything like this. No mobile games, no loot boxes, basically no micro-transactions.
This stuff is a cancer that needs removed immediately. It’s fair enough saying people should have a right to choose how they spend their money, but when the choices presented are fundamentally designed to do you harm then that’s not a fair choice which has no place in any market, let alone gaming.
I think these people that need to burn time should be introduced to emulators. When I "want to burn time" I'll just boot up one of my many hundreds of ROMS and play a game.
Or I felt an anime character, aka arts and crafts heh.
I never clicked with touchscreen controls on games that weren’t designed for them.
I saw this exact video and decided to play monoply Go. Been about a month and i havent spent a dime. Ive completed multiple boards and developed a system to collect dice. I realized that the game was trying to feed off two things, My impatince and FOMO. The limited time events, the multipliers to make you waste dice, getting just close enough to completing an event to make you want to keep rolling. Its all a trick. I knew it was. And while i could've done like so many before me and just uninstalled the game i refused to. Because i didnt want to let the game beat me. I wanted to progress without spending a dime and so i keep playing. And i will continue to play until the gameplay loop stops being enjoyable. But i will never spend a dime.

I haven't had an ad on UA-cam in over 11yrs, seeing all these comments about a Monopoly GO ad reminded me that they existed.
Yeah this game is an example of why I don't play mobile games anymore. Started when I was trying to get into Clash of Clans cause I had some friends playing that. As soon as I got to where buildings took 24+ hrs to build and constantly getting ads to buy gems to make building go faster, I said "**** that" and uninstalled.
The sticker album is what hooks you in. You need dice to complete or get anywhere in the events. Without completing those events, you will never get the stickers. I play APM which is a way to glitch out the game and always win. But it seems today MOGO has figured out how to dead stop players like me.

I think there's a pretty big distinction between collectibles (and other hobbies you spend money on) where you are buying a product and gambling which is inherently designed to go against your best interests.

It’s weird as I have seen no marketing for the game. Clearly targeted ads are working as I don’t play any mobile games so not the target audience.
It’s also true that comparing the mobile market with the rest of the gaming market is pointless. It’s not the same market, it’s all just potential consumers. To be even considered to be within the gaming market you need a console or pc, not just a phone.

There’s a real big difference between mobile games and games on your phone. Mobile games always suck, if real time cooldowns are involved. Take a hike. “Games on your phone” like runescape, civilization, XCOM, deadcells, obviously work since they are ports but that’s what gaming on your phone should strive to be. Theres definitly room for mobile games that were designed based around the limitations of a phone I.e temple run, cut the rope, angry birds. Mobile gaming is complex I guess lol
Exactly! I have Titan Quest on my phone and it's perfect for me. It's completely offline, 100s of hours of Diablo-like fun with a decent story and insane lore, no ads whatsoever.
always have found it confusing who in-app purchases on mobile games are for. no one 18+ who works and knows the value of money is going to spend $5 on a mobile game package, and children don’t have access to money and most parents would probably refuse to buy an expansion pack on a mobile game for the aforementioned reason. i know if i asked for an in app purchase for a mobile game as a child my parents would have probably laughed in my face. i forgot gambling addictions were a thing though.

It’s not just Monopoly Go or a handful of other games. It’s damn near every single mobile game out there. It’s not just “daily login” bonuses but also “daily PURCHASE” bonuses that persuade you to make a purchase every single day to earn a reward at the end and then it repeats from day one with a new reward.
Then there are the games that have all of these micros and then also advertise and promote sex and eroticism, scooping up even more addicts. There is literally nothing more scummy in the entire gaming industry, than mobile games.

I have a very unpopular opinion in that I like these games. Most games usually have a balance that is fair toward the player with difficulty only scaled in a few directions. Mobile games on the other hand are outright hostile toward the player in every direction possible. Playing these games F2P is genuinely hard and as long as you absolutely refuse to pay anything for any reason, can be quite engaging. You can't just play the game in one session, you are often time gated and have to plan your resources weeks ahead. No other genre can spread its gameplay loop across months.
This is assuming the game is even good. Vast majority are not. The monopoly gos, the city builders, the diablo immortals, and most of the idle games are pretty bad and there are just outright better games that do the same thing without mobile bs.

I stopped playing mobile games a decade ago during the iPad era when they were big
Spending hundreds of dollars does not even make you a whale. Thats just a dolphin. I used to play this game called Rise of Kingdoms and my clan had 2 whales on it. They said how much they spent. About $10-$15k to become a top player and then they have to keep spending to keep up. It is absolutely crazy. And you get addicted to it and there is a social element. It is really not good. I never touch mobile games anymore.
God I fucking hate the board game enough as it is. I have thankfully never finished a full game of monopoly and instead decided each and every time to do something more productive like smashing my face into a wall.

I quit the game very early because of my addictive personality. After going through the whole struggle with the stickers & trading stickers I looked up and realized I was probably around 4-500 dollars in & it wasn’t gonna get any better @ all!😅 I ended up losing the first sticker event after only needing 3 5star stickers that I could have traded with anyone but that was almost impossible to do because the trading community is so 🦆ed with scammers🤷🏾♂️
I own a copy of Monopoly Socialism. I got it after a bunch of people complained about it being parading of socialism and I had a chance before it was not published anymore. However, this phone game is literally just like any other phone game. Straight predetorial to addictive personalities that is similar to gambling addicts.
