What he says about helping our youth transition from mindlessness to mindfulness absolutely hits the nail on the head. Far too much fear and judgement going around, we need to let our kids know they're capable of being so much better
Thank you for recognizing that. Children are driven by the amygdala, which is the survival portion of the brain rooted in fear. That is why it so important to teach emotional intelligence. Once we teach our youth that they can naturally be kind and empathetic, we will cultivate a new culture rooted in love rather than fear. Violence will naturally begin to decline as an effect.
when he talked about the power of kindness and understanding I felt that so deeply... I remember being bullied in high school, and just one person being nice to me made all the difference.
I think he’s right, we need to start addressing the mental health side of this problem, especially with young kids... there's so much they're exposed to that we never even had to think about when we were growing up and in school. I can't imagine the kind of pressure that puts on them
wow, hearing him talk about his own experience with bullying really gave me perspective. it’s easy to assume someone big and tall has it easy, but kids are just mean regardless
It is easy to assume but yes, being tall didn't matter. it's the primitive nature of the brain that causes kids and adults to behave out of fear no matter what. Once we understand that, we start understanding what it would take to cultivate a culture of empathy. That's what we should be focusing on.
So many people agree with you. When we start teaching emotional intelligence, it will give students much better guidance on how to navigate their inner world.
I’ve been saying for years that we need more mental health support in schools. This talk just reinforced that for me. Bullying and violence are symptoms of a bigger issue, and it starts with how we care for kids emotionally
This is such a positive and hopeful message. I love that he is focusing on what’s going on inside students and not just on external solutions. That’s where real change happens
Mark, this message not only touches me but everyone in various ways. We live in a society where it’s normal to bully and be bullied. Hurt people hurt people. How have we gotten to this place? Being labeled by others in a negative light at a young age leads to a lifetime of struggles, disorders and depression. Personally, the more I was bullied about my weight- the more I wanted to project that hurt onto others. I wanted others to feel the pain I was feeling- maybe by acting like the perpetrators, I would gain the confidence back. Maybe by tearing someone down, I would build back up. It’s a dysfunctional vicious cycle. Now being a mom, it’s so important to instill positive traits of kindness & compassion to my kids. To spread love instead of hate. Laughter instead of tears. Purpose instead of insignificance. I love your message and drive to educate others (especially our leaders) in a nation that is hurting. A nation that is lost and blinded by the real issues at hand. I will continue to stand behind you and support you in this mission ❤
Oh man the bit around the 6:00 mark definitely struck a chord with me. can't imagine how hard it is to be a young person these days, and in an environment as tough as school can be
Its sad to see how it has gotten worse for the schools. Bullying is such a major problem and not alot of people want to talk about it until its too late. What a great way to explain and give out ways to actually make a difference. Start talking more with kids on how to not bully or judge before getting to know someone. You never know what that person might be going through. Being that one nice person can save alot of others without even knowing it. ❤ GREAT JOB !!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark recently at a networking event... his passion and persistence on this topic is infectious. I can't wait to see where you take this project. Great talk my friend! Well done!
Excellent job, Mark! I remembered when you and I first talked about this, I would have never thought someone of your size would be bullied compared to my 5’6 height. Just as there are different levels of mental health struggles, there are different ways bullying can occur. This is such a great message, so thank you for your continued impact to the world.
Hi Mark, You have raised several very difficult topics during your talk ranging from school shootings, to bullying to emotional intelligence to mental health. Thank you for your courage in bringing these topics into the open. I hope we all have the courage to listen and act. As a second comment, I think it would be very useful to hear your thoughts on how social media and violent video games impact school shootings.
This is the kind of talk that schools need to play for students and teachers alike. We focus so much on grades and discipline but rarely touch on mental and emotional health
Part of my major goal is to implement mental and emotional health in the education system. When the children have the support they need and require, they will flourish.
Emotional Intelligence is something that I am so passionate about and would love to see it be taught in our school systems! Thank you for sharing your story!
This approach is so valuable for giving young people a strong foundation to deal with life’s challenges. It’s not just about the immediate issue, it’s about long-term growth
This would be such a valuable and actually helpful approach, not just for preventing sh**tings but for helping young people create a solid and healthy foundation to build upon
Hey Buddy, amazing! Francois here. I had to watch it twice. You left me waiting for more. Keep me updated. We need to make more impactful changes and think hard about who we have running our country, which will affect our children's schools. Let's stop hitting the same brick wall and anticipate a different outcome. Love is all you need. ❤
The consciousness shift he talked about is so important. We can't keep trying to fix this problem with the same mindset that created it in the first place
Such an amazing job and a topic that needs more conversation and action! Thank you for telling us your story and your vulnerability! Can't wait to watch your next talk friend!
THIS MAN HERE!! Is a dear friend of mine.😊 I'm so proud of him in every way. I remember he and I hanging out and chatting on these topics and him doing this TED TALK. You did it Man. My heart is smiling so hard ❤
Mark this is a great Ted talk, I believe it will take a combination of things to solve this. Our kids are being victimized daily by these senseless shootings. Politicians, parents and the kids themselves have to come together to solve this. Bro , I’m proud of you.
Wow, Mark! What an incredible work you did. 🔥 This talk is so powerful and honest! Thank you for showing yourself vulnerable and for sharing your light with the world.
Great, innovative, groundbreaking, content, Mark! Teaching living, sharing, emotional intelligence is key to projecting the solution to this very serious problem. Implementing actions perhaps your team will be instrumental in fostering the teaching of this content on an academic level, hopefully to be embraced by educational systems globally.
Excellent job! Thanks for sharing such an important and timely message. It’s time those in Congress do something and it’s time we elect those that will!! This is a GREAT start!!
It seems like the whole country is caught up in a mental health epidemic. If we can start giving kids the education and support they need to navigate those challenges it would make an impact on such a large scale
Can relate to those feelings of being bullied and also feeling invisible, not a great combo. I never got to SS territory but having the slightest bit of support for my mental health would have gone a long way
Wow! Thank you for being so transparent and brave enough to talk about such a sensitive subject. Awareness + strategic actions = Shift. Tomorrow is better because of people like you. I’m glad to know you bro💪🏽
Hello my friend Gleen !! So happy for you and for Mark ! You are such a wonderful friend ! Thanks for always being there for us ! God bless your family 🙏❤️
Imagine if schools focused more on empathy and less on punishment... even just on conflict resolution at an early age. Would cause such an incredible ripple effect for all this stuff
Very well said. I encourage everyone watching this to share it on their social media page and to their local school Principals. The only way things will improve is by getting the message out there and changing the culture of kids bullying and administrators ignoring the problem.
I felt that part where he talked about wanting to hurt back the people who hurt him. that’s such a real feeling, and it’s heartbreaking that so many kids feel that way today
It's genuinely the worst feeling in the world. All you want to be is understood, to be heard, just to have someone to talk to. But kids don't understand emotional intelligence at all, so they project their fears. But I learned to tap into my inner strength and push forward peacefully. We all can cultivate a culture of kindness. It starts within. You must be kind to yourself. Then together we can heal, instead of hurt each other.
So well spoken yet gently conveyed that there’s no need for a mic. It’s just for show for he had everyone’s attention. Emotional intelligence is absolutely something we as a country need to address. “It’s not the years, it’s the mileage.”
Thank you so much Michael. That's what it comes down to. Once we really focus on emotional intelligence, it will create the foundation for healthier emotional regulation and communication at an early age. Kids will just understand each other better and be more empathetic. Nice Indy reference haha
Fear leads to hate. Hate leads to violence. This is the common theme worldwide of people hurting each other. The solution is so simple, love and kindness. This leads to empathy and understanding.
Amazing talk! Mark is so talented. We need to teach emotional intelligence in schools. Everything is about higher consciousness- all knowledge flows from it
Thank you! Once we start openly having the conversation of higher levels of consciousness, we can make tremendous progress. Bob Proctor spoke about this in many of his seminars. Dr Joe Dispenza talks about the neuroscience behind human behavior and transcendence. We have the knowledge and information, its simply combining everything in a digestible way for kids and adults to understand and implement in their lives. Everyone will be much kinder to each other.
Oh my god the way he talks about his experience with bullying is legitimately heartbreaking. Particularly the stuff about his soul yearning for something other than sorrow and sadness. A 9 year old shouldn't have to feel that kind of sadness.
Trust me when I say Dante, it was extremely depressing. No one cared except for my parents. Being an outcast is the worst thing you can do to a child when human nature is connection. This is why we need to change things in education. To teach emotional intelligence and the importance of the impact of our actions towards one another. It's not just about getting the good grades, its about humanity.
There's a difference between bullying and just ordinary meanness though.... I saw that because most kids are just mean and they don't mean anything by it but some kids are super sensitive and really take it to heart
Luis, there is a major difference between generic teasing, and humiliation. The reason so many kids are mean is because their behavior is driven by their underdeveloped, reptilian brain. Dominated by the amygdala, which is fear driven. Many of these school shooters do not act out because of minor teasing. It's usually major. Physical and psychological, and always behind the backs of the parents and teachers. The super sensitive ones are the ones that become doctors and nurses. The super sensitive ones should be treated with even more kindness.
It will continue to happen until major changes start happening the education system. There must be reform and mental health resources available to all of the students.
This is something that could create genuine, positive, and long lasting change. I hope to see it
That is the ultimate goal. To create positive change, long term for everyone.

when he talked about the power of kindness and understanding I felt that so deeply... I remember being bullied in high school, and just one person being nice to me made all the difference.
Often times all it takes is an act of kindness from someone else to turn everything around. To know that someone cares, even just one person.
I think he’s right, we need to start addressing the mental health side of this problem, especially with young kids... there's so much they're exposed to that we never even had to think about when we were growing up and in school. I can't imagine the kind of pressure that puts on them

I’ve seen firsthand how bullying can push people to their limits, and I agree we need to stop it at the root
The idea of teaching emotional intelligence in schools is so crucial. I struggled with it growing up
So many people agree with you.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, only once we focus on what we can help them change on the inside, will it reflect on the outside.

Fantastic message! Couldn’t agree more!
such a great reminder that sometimes the answer isn't in policy but in how we treat each other! 💜💜

Keep sharing it, and it will.
I can't imagine getting a call like that and having to navigate that situation. A sad reality for far too many parents.
Far too many. Only when we all come together will all of this change.
To be bullied is a sad enough situation let alone to not be believed or shown any compassion for it. I'm sorry you had that experience
Thank you for your understanding. It was miserable but it made me a stronger person. Now I just want to help others be kinder to one another.
Great talk!!!

This is a very complex issue with lots of factors. I believe this could help prevent a lot of them though.
