NHS, government and police learn lessons when they get it wrong while the rest of us get charged when we make a mistake

Unfortunately, the NHS, government and police are 'not' learning from their mistakes, the public paying the price for their mistakes over and over and over again.
And the media, just as bad.
I noticed that after the Leicester Square stabbings yesterday, I couldn't find any comment about it on UA-cam by the BBC.
They probably didn't know how they could defend their corner, especially coming so soon after helping Starmer label all protesters as rioters and extreme right wing (which they are not).
Every violent incident must be a huge embarrassment for the BBC, because they have to work so hard at dismissing it as quickly as possible with short articles, shallow words, and a meaningless speech by this control freak of a PM.

It’s really evil how the government has stripped our public services down to the bone. Our mental health services are failing, time and time again this happens. Mental illness isn’t a choice. You don’t wake up one day and decide "oh I’m going to choose to become a paranoid schizophrenic today or how about a dose of psychosis for dinner ". Yes some people are just evil and hurt others for pleasure but not every case of murder is that simple. This guy shouldn’t have been allowed to roam the streets when he was a risk to others.
My neighbour (white guy in his 50s) is usually a very quiet and polite man. He is a paranoid schizophrenic and has his rituals he needs to do to feel safe in his home.l( locking the door 3 times or circling the building a few times before entering etc) One time he came into our garden with a knife and threatened the new neighbours because they’re foreigners (lovely Turkish family). He’d never done anything of the sort before. It took the police 2 days to respond to my 999 call. Their reason was because he no longer posed a threat after having retreated inside. It turns out his medication needed tweaking. Social services got involved and he’s never done anything like it since. This was years ago. Our mental health services and adult social care has greatly deteriorated since then.

Give over this can happen to anybody! It happened to my neighbour who is an older white British guy. Fortunately his mental state wasn’t as deteriorated as this guys and nobody was killed but he threatened to stab the foreigners next door when they were simply sitting in their garden with their 2 young children. It took the police 2 days to respond to my emergency call. 2 fkn days. That’s the problem with this country. Appalling public services like social care, NHS, policing and our soft touch judicial system. All due to constant budget cuts in the name of austerity.

@@AramasG agree - the 1980’s / 90’s move away from institutional care to a “care in the community” approach only works if the resources and services actually exist in the community to monitor and care for the extremely mentally unwell. It’s shown time and time again that services are underfunded and overstretched. There could be an argument to be made though that it is exactly because of this that we cannot add more strain by loose illegal immigration policies

You're an idiot if you believe that. My uncle has a young white lady living above him who abuses passers by from her window. One day while he was in his garden she leaned out of her window with a bow and arrow and aimed it at him lucky for him he was able to move out of the way quickly. She has been taken into custody and hospital so many times only to return. There was a high profile case of a white woman some years ago who before she stabbed and attacked one other person on the street entered a doctor's surgery asking for help. She actually told them she was going to kill but they did nothing. I worked on a mental health hospital ward once when I was much younger. The evening my agency sent me to work there one of the patients, a white male, came into the kitchen where I was cleaning and started talking to me then he started punching the air and doing karate kicks. One of the nurses came into the kitchen and ordered him out. Once he'd left she warned me against him as he had convictions for rape. She told me to keep the door locked always. Everyone on that ward was white, there wasn't one black person.

How difficult is it to understand the doctor specifically stating in very simple words THAT THIS MAN IS AT RISK OF KILLING PEOPLE (if released out into the public)????? And their hands were in no way tied, in fact, the exact opposite. Why are you so eager to in some way so sympathetically excuse and reverentially protect those in authority in the system who are to blame and directly responsible for this catastrophic failure and general overall negligence in their basic duty of care in those very positions and offices of authority?

@@geoffduke1763 it’s so interesting that you conveniently forget that they also DIDN’T have to lie about the prescription medication he was actually (supposed to be) taking and conveniently manipulative in using the specific language to describe his “prescription resistance” with regard to the fact that it was really just simply his outright refusal and attempts to hide the fact that he wasn’t actually taking the medication that’s 100% adequately appropriate AND SUCCESSFUL at treating his paranoid schizophrenia, and then going further by intentionally misleading everyone who read the official report that he actually NEEDED to be placed into one of the ONLY three facilities (yes, as you said very underfunded as the entire system is, and with appallingly scarce beds, if not outright already operating at overcapacity which it obviously likely was) that are allowed to store and dispense certain highly controlled medications, one of which they CLAIMED he was *required* to be prescribed to because of the so-called “treatment resistance”, as it is one that is usually required in cases where other first line medications have failed to literally treat the symptoms and overall condition (in this case schizophrenia) which the patient has been diagnosed with and needs appropriate treatment for, especially in cases EXACTLY like this, where the safe release and elimination of immediate lethal threat to the community has to have been effectively eliminated based on the successful effects of that medication (as well as other interventions that the psychiatrist is also mostly responsible for managing and administering) for them to be able to do that. So, the point is: he was at the underfunded, inadequately resourced and over stretched, less secure and obviously inappropriate mental health facility (as opposed to another facility that might be able to provide the adequate security and supervision that a violent offender currently experiencing psychosis due to his refusal to take the appropriate and proven successful medication he is prescribed to treat his paranoid schizophrenia), literally as a direct result of the intentionally misleading and outright lying of the medical professionals (and others in authority involved then subsequently) who APPARENTLY we’re supposed to feel sorry for because “their hands were tied”. Well whose literal exact fault is that??????? If we’re going to believe that their hands were actually tied at that point at all anyway 😵‍💫🤷🏻‍♀️

All politicians since Blair came to power are responsible for this.
Labour, Tories, SNP. Their softly, softly approach, police indifference, failure by the NHS - all leading to this massive increase in incidents throughout this century.
The Government and media collaborate to move on as quickly as possible from incidents, hoping they are buried by other news - and you have to wonder why? Why is public safety so minor a priority for politicians and the majority players in the media.

The family are blaming the NHS but if one of my children had an illness I would be in my car and there for them. I would take them back home and make sure that they got the care they required mentally or physically. He was in Nottingham and they stayed in wales getting phones calls knowing he was hearing voices. I call that someone who is washing their hands of them and leaving them for the state to deal with . As a mother she should have taken full resposibliity from the first day he broke into the neighbours house or the first phone calls received .You cannot sit back and leave it to the NHS they are your child no matter how old they are. Where was the parental responsiblity. Harsh but true

They *LACK MENTAL CAPACITY* and part of their disorder is altered reality, hallucinations, thought disorders, which means they view medications as poisonous. They *CAN'T* help it. Professionals know that. Meanwhile, your beloved nation treats its most vulnerable with disdain.
Tories were in charge for *FOURTEEN YEARS,*and they stripped off the NHS services to be sold off to their cronies. Instead of listening to the demands of the qualified workers who requested the dire need for frontline staff, they chocked the NHS full of useless business managers whose jobs were to make savings for share holders. CQC investigated and found some many mistakes and missed opportunities by the NHS. The NHS did risk assessments EIGHT times and failed to act on how dangerous he could potentially be. And then they discharged him with no care plan or anything even though he had shown violent tendencies. They did get it very wrong and the professionals who decided these things do need to take accountability.
