I'm over 50. I have hockey, football and baseball jerseys. Most of the time, I wear jeans and t-shirts. My t-shirts are mainly Star Wars, Marvel and Edmonton Oilers themed. If anyone has a problem with that, it's sad for them. If they have time to worry about that, they have a sad, sad life.

Turning 35 later this year, and I've been wearing jeans and metal t-shirts since I was 13/14. I bought a leather jacket in 2005 which I still use, in fact it's my only jacket of any sort and has been since then. Why? Because I love it. These are the clothes and colors and clothes I feel most comfortable in. I do have some colored things as well which I wear whenever I feel like it, and I have a black shirt for formal wear. I also have a small-ish selection of hockey jerseys of various colors which I also wear when I feel is appropriate. I can't see myself ever wearing more traditional or 'neutral' clothes. I have a burning passion for my hobbies, and I proudly display them. They are, in part, an extension of me and I want to keep it that way. Whenever I'm wearing something more traditional, I feel like I'm playing dress-up, and I don't like that. So, that's my way of saying that I'm 110% with you all the way Shannon, and everyone else who feels the same way.

There's an idea in sociology called informalization - the trend in how people dress and speak in western societies since the 60s. Usually referenced for why men don't wear hats and suits and ladies gloves or whatnot, but applies equally to the sources who are claiming a man of 40+ should dress a certain way - they're just caught in a norm from 3-4 decades back, despite how people actually dress at any age getting more informal all the time.

Old man clothes: bib overalls and a Stormy Cromer hat. That's what I wear and I'm old. Only own 3 hockey jerseys: Joe Mullen Calgary Flames, Walt McKechnie, Golden Seals and Ron Francis, Penguins. Mullen & McKechnie are older than me, and Francis is just a little bit younger. I bought his because it was an authentic, and I found it for 25 dollars in the Boston Garden souvenir shop when Boston Garden was being torn down. The store was just trying to get rid of everything and that jersey looked so good for the price. For a 60 year old guy to be wearing something like a Jack Hughes jersey would be embarrassing. Leave that for 14 year old girls.

I’m 43 and yes i still dress pretty much like i did in middle/high school which is hockey jerseys during the season I have close to 200 l. Also, my band T-shirts. I don’t own really any other kind of T-shirts, I don’t wear dressy shirts like buttons and stuff like that.
I can understand where people are coming from when they believe your wardrobe should change as you get older. I worked with a woman when I was in my 30s and she was in her 50’s and asked me one day, why do dress like you’re still in high school? I told her honestly I’ve never thought about that. I’ve always liked wearing my hockey jerseys & my band T-shirts & I don’t care for any other style. I told her I don’t anticipate changing either whether I’m in my 50s or 60s it’s probably going to pretty much be the same. And there was another guy that worked with us. He was a little younger than me, & he always wore dress shirts tucked in with his blue jeans. He always had sneakers or dress shoes on & I said to her, do you want me to dress like Doug? She says, oh see Doug looks so classy, respectable and mature. I said so that doesn’t mean anything that he looks the part I said i’m those things too but just because I don’t look the part. I said, I think I have a unique look, I don’t see too many other people walking around wearing band T-shirts & hockey jerseys. I think that’s what makes me unique, so I don’t quite fit in & that’s the way I like it.

I'm 41. It's almost impossible to wear a jersey of someone older than me that's still playing the game.
Ryan Whitney is entitled to an opinion, but he's wrong. He's one of those people who has made money in his life so he thinks his opinion matters more. Sorry, Ryan. But while he has had a certain degree of success in entertainment (and let's be clear; sports is just a form of entertainment) he has a limited education and a very narrow world view cultivated among other people who grew up playing hockey and got paid to play hockey. And now he's got some degree of notoriety, so he has a following that will nod vigorously and agree with him.
But he's wrong as it gets. It is the year two thousand and twenty-three. If you are confident in what you want to wear, rock it. And if you want to wear something very much, but aren't confident in it because of people like Ryan, do your best to say "screw that guy" and wear what you want to wear. Be the person you want to be. Life is too short to pretend for the sake of other people.

I'm 68. I am sometimes self-aware when I am among my peers in their polo shirts, loafers and chinos and I am wearing jeans, running shoes, and a t-shirt that may have a band's name on it or a sports team or something political, artsy or touristy. It doesn't bother me. If the occasion calls for spiffing up, I will dress better. I only own two jerseys (Dahlin and Ristolainen), and one Sabres Buffaslug t-shirt with Drury's name and number on the back. I'd apologize to no one for wearing Dahlin (Risto's long gone). If I had money, I'd try to get a vintage Michael Peca goathead jersey or a Mogilny jersey. My phone has a clock, so why do I need a wrist watch? I own chinos but not a dress suit. My ulitmate sin may be wearing ballcaps (Bills, Yankees, Blue Jays, Army vet). I have jeans in two waist sizes to handle the seasonal fluctuations in my waist line.

I do have to say that when I hit my 40s I stopped wearing some clothes that I use to wear in my 20s and 30s. Mostly my hard rock and heavy metal shirts. I still love hard rock and heavy metal and always will but I just felt like that was something young people do, band t-shirts, and I felt sELF conscious about it. It seems though hockey stuff appeals to a much larger demographic. There is alot of people here in Edmonton that are over 40 that wear Oilers stuff it's not uncommon to see. I think you can wear what you like I scaled back on some clothes because it bothered me but, everyone is different and I can never see myself wearing suits and dress clothes because that is what middle age people wear because I hate that shit.

Jersey Foul, so I can't wear a Seider jersey because I'm in my 30's? Who came up with that dumb rule? Jaguars legend Blake Bortles.

I never got the watch thing, until...
Late 90s and for some reason I'm in a jewelry store burning time waiting on something. I'm looking at the watches and an eco light charging dial watch jumped out at me. I had a job where I had to wear a watch but never wanted to wear one otherwise. This was before everyone carried a phone. Ironically enough it was about $300. I can't tell you why I bought it. I didn't leave the house without it on my wrist for two decades until the battery finally gave up the ghost. I loved that watch. In different circumstances I'd want to pass it on. Maybe it's about being Gen X. Maybe because I'm only a few years off Boomer. Whatever the reason I always had three things leaving the house, that watch, wallet, and keys. Sure we've all got phones but it's easier just to turn your wrist. Why not just leave your phone in the car, or better yet, at home? Don't worry, they'll leave a message or a text.

@RRaquello I misplaced a number of 5 and 10 dollar watches. More than a handful. I still have this one three decades later. It's a decent watch, not pretentious, nothing special, just special to me. Plus, it doesn't look like I borrowed it from my kid or I'm about to go for a jog. As I discovered, there's something about the click of a heavy steel watch band on a table that's somewhat satisfying. I'll never poke a hole in my ear or nose, and I don't like rings or tattoos. A watch I can work with.

Something. The correct answer is something. I see too many content creators on UA-cam, mostly male, who seem allergic to shirts. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. Obviously, if you're doing the THG channel, a hockey jersey or a hockey t shirt makes sense. On this channel, anything goes, really.

I feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If he (Whit) feels that he needs to upgrade his wardrobes to feel accepted within his own age group, I respect that. It doesn't affect my life in any way. However, I side with the younger population, and maybe the overall consensus in society. I feel that you should wear whatever you want, whatever makes you feel comfortable. Like most of us, I was not born into "the lifestyle" nor would I ever feel comfortable being accepted into that group in society. I love wearing my hockey jerseys everywhere. Whether I'm at a game, skating, grocery store, gas station, etc. I never feel any shame when I'm wearing a jersey or any bold and bright outfits. Always be comfortable with WHO YOU ARE

i wonder what young people would think about being told how to dress...lmao. i'm hardly going to be told what should be wearing by people who still don't know they are wearing their shirt inside out. i never cared what older people thought, and i don't care what my peers think, so anyone younger telling me i'm too old for anything is going to immediately land in the ineffectual loser catagory. they should concentrate more on their own fashion failures.

my dad (late 40s) dressed like that. guess what, his mid-life crisis caused him to lose three houses. lost his career. and he turned into a drug addict.
just because you dress clean doesn’t mean anything.
im the opposite. im 21 almost always hoodies, sweatpants and some backwards baseball cap. if it’s too warm, oversized t-shirt and gym shorts. it’s not like i really go out to impress anyone
