When you're 10, every day is a larger percentage of your life, when you're 40 every day is 1/4 that length by comparison. Every day blurs into the next faster and faster. :(

Also once you are out of school, you don't really get that same sense of time, because you have summer breaks etc, so when you are out of school and working time kinda just blurs as you said.

I'm 71. I was lousy at school, but I have been told that I have an unusual large number of personal memories. I have read that if something is traumatic, either good or bad, adrenaline can be released, and it can act to imprint a memory. I must have had a lot of trauma. Anyway, when older people pass away from natural causes, what the person experienced in his or her last years seems to have the most significance to the loved ones left behind. I look at my life as if it were a long mural painted on a wall with my childhood on one end, and my last years on the other end. All of the sections of the mural have approximately the same significance. It has gone by too fast.

Ive seen a lot of hockey youtubers over the past 5-6 years but the less than 10k sub THG stood out the most and was the only one I never stopped watching over time. And that is because of you behind THG. You’re genuine, I love the insight of your life along with hockey (your 2011 cup final video) and you’ve always stayed true to what THG is about. Its amazing to see the numbers you have, sometimes I cant believe how many people you’ve reached.
P.S. I was loving this video, and then I got a 30 min iphone 14 pro ad based around Indian culture and it was AMAZING. Watched the entire ad, so hope that helps with the revenue 😂

This definitely stirs me up a bit. I'm about to be 27 and yet I feel like I've been grappling with a lot of this lately. Summer of 2008 feels like just yesterday, my first summer with an Xbox 360, playing Halo 3, going on bike rides with my grandfather, watching the entirety of The X-Files with my parents, buying my first rock album. It was all so distinct and new and different. I sometimes think how things were simpler when I was growing up during the mid-2000s, where you had just enough technology to have fun, but before social media made everything toxic. But what you can't appreciate is that everyone older than you feels the same way about the decade they grew up, why it was better and for their own reasons. Sometimes it scares me to think that time just keeps accelerating because then I know there'll be a day when I stop and realize I'm suddenly 60 or 70 or maybe even 80, and my time here will be finished, and while I don't think I fear actually passing, what I fear might be just not getting to do everything I want to before then. Everyone's life takes a different path, some people hit certain milestones in their 20s, others in their 50s. A mildly optimistic realist, my only hope is that I can hit those milestones someday, knowing I'm in no way guaranteed them. They don't have to come tomorrow, but I just hope at least that they happen. Probably the thing I miss most about being young is having no concept of how fast time really is and not being able to appreciate your own innocence. We always say when we're kids "I can't wait to be older". I even catch myself sometimes thinking "I can't wait to be living out on my own". I know the day will inevitably come and I'll be sitting there, wishing I could be home, go back, etc. I realize now that perhaps the thing I wish I could have back from being a child the most would be not being able to think too much. To feel that slowness of time, to be oblivious to the world, and to believe that everything will last as it is forever. You're told as a child that the world will have changes, but you don't have a concept of that because the few years you've been around, you've never seen any. Put some decades in the bank, and you can definitely admit that the world has changed during your life. If only our existence was a simulation on par with Groundhog Day.

Turned 40 this year. I identify with a lot here. Oddly, the one that hits home the hardest is the summer camp comments. I worked at a summer camp when I was 15, the year after I was too old to be a camper there. I had amazing experiences that summer. I did *not* go back the summer after, and at first regretted it, but then had what was an even more amazing summer, spent with the girl who would become my future wife. My life would absolutely have been different -- probably for the worse -- had I gone back again that summer. Completely random anecdote you probably didn't need, I realize. But the point is, I feel you. We're all experiencing this crazy stuff as we whizz by on this rock in space, and what you're saying resonates with a lot of us.
    Cheers.

I swear it was only like February not long ago, then winter rolled into spring, rolled summer, rolled into autumn, and then Christmas came out of nowhere and now it's all of a sudden the end of 2022.

Born in 1970. I've had similar thoughts recently: aging happens gradually, and parts of us age at different rates; and I feel young-ish mentally most of the time, but definitely not physically. I joke with my teenaged nephews that when I talk about the technological change in my lifetime, I must sound like I'm 100. My first three computers lacked a hard drive--a TI-99/4A, a Commodore 128, and a first-generation 8086 IBM PC clone. My fourth computer, a 286, had a 40-megabyte hard drive, which would not have held one music album's worth of MP3 files.

yeah time seems to fly, def the big advice i got early on was that eventually the body gets old in the 70s, so active hobbies should be enjoyed while they could be. I'm glad you're still using the treadmill and being active, that is very important to stay active approaching the 5-O. but don't be too discouraged by people calling you old at 50. 50 - 60 you can still be active and do physical activity. my dad even beat his college bench max at 48.

I certainly can attest to new experiences being helpful in terms of keeping my mind fresh. I recently went to Vegas a few weeks ago & I went to 3 casinos that I had not been to before or had not explored in detail on previous trips there. For example I explored in detail MGM Grand & found it to be absolutely awesome in terms of its size & the amount of things you can do there. I am hoping that my trip to San Jose/the Bay Area in mid February for a Kraken road game will be equally as helpful as I have never been to that part of the US before.

Younger people guess a minute's up after something like 30-40 seconds, whereas older people tend to let 80-90 seconds go by before they think a minute's elapsed and then they find out it's been longer than that. Add that up over a day/week/month/year and yes, that's the perception that time flies when we're old.

I definitely identify with this video. Some of my most vivid memories are from the summer of 1977, I was 11 years old and clearly remember standing in line with three of my friends(for several hours) to see a movie made by some guy named George Lucas, with a bunch of actors we had never heard of and Alec Guinness and nobody could understand why this guy was in a science fiction movie. That was also the summer that NY had a massive blackout in the middle of an ungodly heat wave, and a guy named David Berkowitz who had been running around shooting people sitting in parked cars at night was finally captured, among other things.....

You quickly realize after 50 that there are more days behind than ahead. So you start to prioritize what you’re willing to trade minutes, hours or days of your life for. 😉

"What is a yellow light", slow down...."What.....you get it. If you think you're old, I got you beat by 11 years (7/25/1962). You hit the nail on the head on just about everything regarding getting old. I just turned 60, and probably am older than all your subscribers. How many subscribers saw Bobby Orr playing in the 70's. I did many times. One time it was against Vancouver (Boston won). I grew up next to a pond and played hockey every day after school. Hockey is expensive and we were not rich, but I played youth hockey. My team was the North Stars. I remember watching the California Golden Seals on a black & White T.V. set with rabbit ears. Since California was so far from Boston the picture was blurry. I'll tell you, those days in the 70's were the best and I wouldn't trade them in for what's going on in the world today, that's for sure.

I’m turning 30 soon. I guess I would say that looking back in my childhood and twenties I won’t miss it. I’m writing my autobiography right now.

Time does go faster as you get older, because you are always busy, with work, family, etc. When your younger you find yourself being bored because there appears to be less to keep yourself busy. You are correct your body starts to break down when you reach a certain age.

A couple years behind you, spent most of my life in the US Northwest. Becoming more of a fuddy duddy every day as it relates to current things. Im actually going backwards to the music etc my parents liked.

At 63, yes the seasons fly by, the months seem to be over about the time you get over it being half way through. Except March. March is still a millions years long, waiting for spring.

fantastic video Shannon. the statement of keeping yourself busy w/ new ideas/experiences to have that newness for your memory to cling to, just so our memory has something to reference, cuts deep... it's near impossible to differentiate day to day now... your videos & discord are among the things that keeps my mind fresh, so thank you for that. keep up the great content... i really do appreciate all you do... happy holidays

Some things I hate about getting old are all the death amongst family and heroes of my youth, and the smallest of injuries taking forever to heal which slowly eats away at what I used to be physically motivated to do. So yes, the brain still thinks I'm 20, but the body says slow your roll, Grandpa.
