why do people pluralize the word tint?

In my state, cars can only have up to 35% on the side and back windows. Trucks/Vans/SUVs can have tint as dark as they want. It sucks.

Same and it doesn't make any sense that larger vehicles can have dark while smaller cars are 35%.
