  • Full title reads: "Brooklands. Radio at 100 MPH! M.G. Team receive instructions by wireless whilst racing - for the first time - in Light Car Relay Race - and win easily."

    The Light Car Club International Relay Race - 22nd July 1933.
    Each car had to complete 30 laps before handing a sash over to a team mate. There were 29 teams entered.
    0:12 - 26A is Singer Team Captain F.S.Barnes & 25A is an MG.
    0:17 - Brooklands Timekeeper A.V.Ebblewhite flags off the starting cars according to handicap.
    0:25 - 18A is Freddie (Earl of) March in a Wolseley Hornet. 25A & 19A (C.E.C.Martin) are MGs. 10A, 14A ("Aldy" Aldington) & 15A (Hon.P.M.Thompson) are Frazer Nash. 16A is the McEvoy Special (M.A.McEvoy).
    0:37 - 9A is G.P.Harvey-Noble in a Salmson & 12A is a Lea-Francis Hyper.
    1:00 - Wireless car 19A is a stripped MG Magna, driven by Charlie Martin.
    1:24 - G.W.J.Wright runs to MG Magna 19B (the second wireless car).
    1:44 - The winning team captain Alan Hess in MG Magna 19C (no radio).

    Not to nitpick: Leon Duray (George Stewart) used two-way radio at Indianapolis in 1931. As he was driving his 16-cylinder supercharged TWO-stroke car, it's doubtful if he heard anything useful!
