I just watched the manufacturer's UA-cam instructional video, and they should be ashamed. There were SO many great tips in Chris's video that they didn't show. Their repair was even visible after they fixed it! Lol Chris is awesome!!!
I know these kits exists, and I know they can be used for good results. But I guess to elaborate on what impressed me, is Chris's method of nicely explaining how it works and how to properly use the kit to it's full potential. Also how cheap it costs, when comparing to getting it done at a glass-shop, where most people would go to without a hint of research before dumping ~$150 for a repair (without insurance).
I've seen others, but this video is by far superior. Really appreciated seeing the differences between plate, tempered, and laminated glass. Friendly, encouraging delivery of great information! Thanks so much!
Sector Exactly, I actually just tried this method on my windshield but sadly it's been there too long and didn't disappear like in the video, but it's def a lot stronger than before
Chris, I was a windscreen technician for about 3 years for Autoglass in the UK. That chip came out better than some of the guys doing it for about 10 years. Also that kit you used had pretty much everything you need minus the UV bulb and glass polish. We used to have a vaccume pump and a specilised unit that you could load your repair resin in. I love your videos, keep up the good work!
immi111190 I was a tech for 4 years I was a bit sceptical but this video isn't too bad. Important note to remember is that you can't always see the full extent of the damage even after" flexing it" to open it up for the resin to flow. If your insurance doesn't cover it this isn't a bad method
Dude, I'm a diesel technician and I love watching your videos. The way you explain everything in detail and make repairing vehicles simplified for people who are on a low budget takes part of the stress away.
As a former firefighter, laminated windshields are great for saving you from flying glass, debris and of course as a structural component but man it is hard for cut even with windshield saws it takes a lot of energy to cut it out to get in, so keeping your windshield in tip top shape is crucial, good job Chris, keep up the good work!
Very helpful. 2 things to note (from the instructions: - at the step when you pull back on the syringe (to create a vacumm) leave it like that for AT LEAST 10min - At the step when you depress the plunger (to push the resin into the crack) leave the plunger depressed for AT LEAST 20 min Also if you dont have painters tape to catch any resin that might run down the windshield, you can also use a post it note. Just place the sticky side near the crack and fold up on the paper to make a spot to catch it. If you slowly fill the reservoir with resin so it just reaches the top, you most likely wont have any spilled resin anyway
ChrisFix License plates and plate frames will go up for sale on my website in a few days!!! They are awesome and as always I appreciate the support and hope you guys learn something new in this video! Thanks for the support! #ChrisFixDriftTeam
ChrisFix Accurately informative as always. Your channel has inspired me to do many of my own repairs. I drive a Hyundai coupé (Tiberon) any suggestions on repairing rubber trim over the window frame, it's cracked slightly. Anyone?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Chris . Best advice I can give from my experience to prevent the risk of a rock chip to your windshields not to drive too closely behind any vehicle with big tires that has no splash guards 💪
I remember thinking I wouldn't use this back when it came out lol. 5.5 years later and I just fixed my windshield for $10 after going to 2 of my past shops and finding them closed down. Thanks Chris! A couple of pro tips for any readers: The manual says to keep the syringe in vacuum for 10 mins, do it. Use a plastic razor instead of the metal one provided. The Pilkington glass on my Accord is very soft and the included razor started scratching it while removing the adhesive so I used my plastic one and didn't have any further problems (no ugly screeching sound either).
@@chrisfix Came back to this 1.5 years later after getting an even bigger crack. I was more patient this time and let the syringe sit for longer in each step and I was able to make the crack invisible! I actually ended up getting a better result than when I would go to the shop and for a fraction of the price too. Thanks again Chris!
Chris, I just repaired the crack in my 2017 Honda CRV windshield and used the same kit you used in the video, the results are amazing! I saved $138 over paying a pro and my repair even looks better than a previous one I had a pro do, thanks! YOU ARE THE MAN!

Great video, Chris. I had my car inspected (Tx. Registration requirement). Some schmo asked me if I wanted the little chips repaired. I said okay, then he put a dab of super glue (or something of the like) on the chips and charged my insurance $75. It was a waste of money. The "repair" hardened and the resin faked off. Now I have to fix it on my own. Thanks for the video Chris!
Hey Chris I did your windshield repair last night with my car. Great advice on placing a blue tape under. When pulled the pedestal out, so much Resin came goshing out. The tape catch most and less mess. Your also right the UV Ray’s is needed. It’s cold here and I have it my garage. It had a hard time to cure and dry even after 6hrs.
I'm glad the tape trick worked out, and the more UV you can expose it to, the faster it will come out. Best thing to do is give it time if it's in your garage!
So much easier to use Chris' instructions and tips than the written instructions that come with the kit! Thanks for helping walk me through this and doing a pretty decent job.
1 hour of watching ChrisFix videos later, "Ok, my resin is done on the curing strip. But now I need to super clean my car, install a short throw shifter, and make my own console box."
I really enjoy the content of this channel, but there’s also little things that most people probably brush past that make me happy, such as instead of telling the viewers to like subscribe comment like most you tubers Chris is always super polite and never makes anyone feel forced into anything by saying things like “if you like the content, consider subscribing”. Used your video to do a repair on my windshield. I had seen an older video of yours, but I'm glad I saw this updated vid. Your tips and such were great. I used the Permatex kit that you had in an older video, and it worked great. I had a star crack from a rock, and the product worked outstanding. While there is a slight amount of "frosting" from where the impact was, all of the spider cracks and the small bulls eye are gone. Unless I knew where to look, there's no sign of a crack. Appreciate the help.
Great job! I just paid $40 for professional repair and it does not look anywhere that good. I wish I had done it myself but I had not seen this video yet. Thank you Chris!
Jeeps are structurally different compared to other cars. Also if you flip in a jeep you have a dedicated roll bar for a reason. Its to make up for the windshield folding.
Lots of comments already but saved me $900 for a repair on my Mercedes SL 550 (yes, they really wanted that much!!), that Why I'm leaving a comment and subscribed. Thanks, Chris!!!
I’ve watched several of these chip repair videos……yours is absolutely the most informative and has the best advice on getting a great result…..nice work!
Hey Chris, recently started watching your uploads and I’ve gotta say, they’re the best I’ve ever seen. I do all the work I can on my own vehicle, so I’ve been around the youtube mechanic market, and this subscribe out of all of my various subscriptions is the best one I’ve ever done. My girl and watch your uploads like a tv series, we love how complete and understandable your videos are. Thank you from another satisfied subscriber.
You are a lifesaver! my mechanic wanted at least $100 for this work and the final bill would have been even higher as usual .. now i can repair it myself thank you
Chris, I love your videos. I restored my headlights and detailed my older car following your instructions and it brought my old car back to life. My wife has a newer car and just got a chip in the window. I came straight here to look for the fix. I feel confident that I could use the resin repair kit, but there is no hole over the damage to her windshield. The exterior of the window is smooth above the damage (smooth on the interior as well). Your laminated glass demonstration helped me understand how this is possible. Is there a DIY fix for that?
Sometimes the crack or void will be so small, Only a few nanometers in with. So tiny and thin that not only can you not fill it with your finger nail, or a thumbtack like he shows in the video… But you can’t even feel it with the sharpest point of an X-Acto knife, Or even a fine sewing needle. But using the plunger and vacuum method duck… The resin will find its way down into the void. Maybe even heat that area of the windshield very gently and slowly with an air dry or small electric heater… or let it sit in the sun… The resin will get drawn into the void. Maybe wipe it all off really good, If you’re really having a trouble with penetration you could possibly even thin the resin. You could also use 99% alcohol and compressed air to degrease the outer perimeter… and it will also help not push any grease, wax, or other oily residue down into the void.
I've watched other videos on how to repair my chipped windshield and this one is definitely the absolute best one. Others still left a very noticeable crack, but this one lives up to it's title: the windshield does look like brand new. Thanks for the step by step instructions, and the little hints along the way that obviously make a huge difference in how well the chip goes away.
You'r channel is the only reason I stopped giving car to service and started maintaining myself on weekends as hobby. As a result I now have much more knowledge of the car, fun to maintain it and also save a tonn of money on the process!
2:50 the tempered glass is the student. The big hammer is the hard work you do for exam, and understand the lessons. Small hammer is one question that screw u up
Thank you so much! I'm just outside NYC and I was quoted $160 by Safelite which is just crazy because I know they do it for the insurance companies for less than half of that! I had a small chip that started to spread and I had very little hope for this product to actually work but it did. I never saw air bubbles with the vacuum and I blew out the plunger trying to add too much pressure but despite all of that it came out perfect. I applied a touch of heat with a heat gun on low during the vacuum and I knocked on the glass during both the vacuum and pressure phases. The slight heat and the knocking really seemed to get the resin in the crack. Thanks again!
ChrisFix would you please consider making a video on how to restore convertible tops to there original condition. I have a mustang with a tan top and need your expertise! Im sure others will be thankful as well. You Da Man!!
As many of these kits as I imagine you’ve sold for them, I think you should get a percentage. Or at least a sponsorship. After watching this video I ordered a double kit. Followed your directions, didn’t even open the ones that came with it. It worked perfectly. I can spot them if I look very carefully but I’m calling it perfect. Thanks dude.
Great video - thanks! Some follow-up Qs: * At how many minutes into the 10 minute vacuum stage do you recommend starting to tap/knock the bubbles out? * At how many minutes into the 20 minute pressurizing stage do you recommend pushing the plunger in slightly more, to tap/knock the bubbles out? And then, how long to hold the plunger in (until the end of the 20 minutes, or just let it go back to the upper-notch lower pressure until the end of the 20 minutes?)? * I let the epoxy cure in the direct sun under the cure strip for 20-30 minutes. When I removed the cure strip, the epoxy underneath was not 100% hard. Still a little bit of viscosity. Is that ok? (Note: Seconds later, when removing the over-slop of epoxy (with my perpendicular razor) from the windshield around where the cure strip was, it seemed as all the epoxy was hard and able to be razored away like a fine dust) Thanks!
Thanks a lot! 1. You can give a few minutes before tapping the bubbles out! 2. Again, give it a few minutes to pressurize before pushing it in more, and do it until there isn't anything left in the chip, and just leave the plunger in it's position once you're done! 3. You should be fine conisering what happened but giving it a little more time to cure should harden that up if you ever have to do this again!
@@chrisfix Thanks for the replies, Chris! 1. and 2. When you say to "give it a few minutes" do you mean like 3-4 minutes in, or wait til near to the end of the vacuum and pressure stages? How many minutes into each stage would you recommend the bubble tapping? 2. When you say to leave the plunger it it's position once you're done, do you mean leave it in the upper notch position where the spring clip would hold it, or leave it in the position where you manually pushed it in beyond that upper notch position? Thanks!
I'd be hard-pressed to by find a better repair video of any kind on UA-cam - So nicely done - Clear, thorough and didn't waste any of the viewer's time - Subscribed !
What a coincidence! I just bought one of those kits and was going to do a chip repair on my car on the weekend. Glad to see this video pop up and some of these instructions will be super helpful. Thanks!
Wow Chris, 5,500 comments on Nov. 5th, 2020, but a lot of chipped windshields as they use gravel in Colorado instead of sand. This was an excellent description and Chris you nailed it. Not only in this glass structural, but most vehicle with front air bags (SIR) supplemental to the seat belt first, but engineers use the windshield to re-direct the passengers air bag toward the passenger. A pressure sensor in passengers seat turns on or off the right side if it senses more than 38-42 pounds! Your may vary, system must be working and no SIR service light on and the sensor is properly calibrated after servicing the air bladder, sensor, seat cushion foam, cover or addition of seat heaters. If in doubt, have it checked. It keeps insurance rates lower is the $900 air bag goes off because you bought a watermelon and seat belted it in the front seat!
+ChrisFix, Please do a series of videos giving an overview of the main systems in a car and their components. The electrical system The A/C system The front end etc. Like this post if you agree
I just fixed my windshield with the same kit you used god it was Perfect ! I even can’t find where my chip was thank you so much just saved 3000USD dollar my car is Mercedes
How did he save you $3000??? If you go to an auto glass shop, they repair chips for $35-$50 per chip. I had it done twice. Yes, it cost 3X more over doing it yourself, but the advantage is that your car is ready in 30 minutes (they have a VERY strong UV light to cure it), and it's done by a pro, so you don't have to worry about messing up. Because once you tried it and failed, there is no way to re-fix the same chip twice.
Man, you are the only channel in UA-cam to provide utmost detail with the process! Damn keep the great quality on details and keep posting more videos!
I had 2 chips on my 2014 regal GS windshield... Advance auto parts had the Permatex bullseye windshield kit for $13 after this video and instructions WOW!!! CHIPS ARE GONE THANK YOU.
Hi Chris, I'm a big fan. I've got one personal tip to share with you. After letting the bubbles settle and pulling out the syringe, it's even better to top off the pedestal again all the way to the top with more new resin to ensure that there is minimal air bubble being pushed back in when re-inserting the syringe. If you like this technique and add it to your video, I'd be very honored :)
There is actually an advantage to the tempered glass shattering into tiny pieces when hit. Although it would be bad to use on a windshield, it's great for the side windows because if it does break, it breaks into small enough pieces that you won't get injured by them if they hit you.
A word of warning to those doing this... Don't be like me and "tap" the glass so firmly you damage it further. I turned a bullseye chip into a spider crack the span of my hand from repeatedly thumping the glass from the inside too hard. Currently seeing if applying resin to the cracks and using saran wrap instead of the curing plate does it for me 😬
Watched this video last week and even didn't know this glass repair existed , as I had a chip in my wind screen i thought I'd try this out today and low and behold it works but I don't think I would have done as good a job if I didn't watch this video or even know it could be fixed by myself so thanks again Chris fix your the very best .

Windshield is a structural component of your car
Me: drives jeep
Windshield: folds down
Jeeps are structurally different compared to other cars. Also if you flip in a jeep you have a dedicated roll bar for a reason. Its to make up for the windshield folding.

Heyy guys, ChipFix here, Ive made a chip fixing video every year for the last 4 years.

ChrisFix can you do a broken gas pump my dad has one it won't start
Danny De La Cruz he replaced a fuel pump on a video called "how to diagnose and replace a fuel pump"
I’ve watched several of these chip repair videos……yours is absolutely the most informative and has the best advice on getting a great result…..nice work!
I already know you had a blast breaking all that glass. I'm so jealous!
Chris, you are a master at teaching and showing how to DIY repairs. 😎👍🏼
That’s awesome! I’m glad you’re learning a lot and enjoying the videos!
Nice comment and name
You are a lifesaver! my mechanic wanted at least $100 for this work and the final bill would have been even higher as usual .. now i can repair it myself thank you
Nice one, as someone that fixes stuff like that everyday, it's really simple to do! As I call it, it's literally a waiting game!
There has to be a hole somewhere because that’s what starts the crack.

Perfect job! 👍
Anyone else get goosebumps when he scratched the glass with the razor ?
Nah that glas dosen't scratch
LUMPIS no
If you do not keep the razor blade straight up and down you can scratch it.
The sound of metal scraping on glass always gives me that weird feeling up my back.
@@techgeekwarren4504 Glass is a Mohs scale level 6 and razor blade is 5.5 so there is no scratches
11:07 I love how he explains literally EVERYTHING he is doing even though removing that tape is common sense at that actual moment of the repair.

Arthur Ericson you can find him in other people's videos, I'll link one if I can find it.
ChrisFix, have you done a video on clear film (paint, bumper) protection? Sorry I haven't had time to view all your videos.
This homie just taught me about glass
You learn something new every day
Great video - thanks!
Some follow-up Qs:
* At how many minutes into the 10 minute vacuum stage do you recommend starting to tap/knock the bubbles out?
* At how many minutes into the 20 minute pressurizing stage do you recommend pushing the plunger in slightly more, to tap/knock the bubbles out? And then, how long to hold the plunger in (until the end of the 20 minutes, or just let it go back to the upper-notch lower pressure until the end of the 20 minutes?)?
* I let the epoxy cure in the direct sun under the cure strip for 20-30 minutes. When I removed the cure strip, the epoxy underneath was not 100% hard. Still a little bit of viscosity. Is that ok? (Note: Seconds later, when removing the over-slop of epoxy (with my perpendicular razor) from the windshield around where the cure strip was, it seemed as all the epoxy was hard and able to be razored away like a fine dust)
Thanks!
Thanks!
I can see clearly now, the chip is gone- I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone- is the mark that made me cry. It's gonna be a bright, Sunshiny day!
You should make a song out of that. Sounds kind of catchy. ;-)

@@chrisfix what about a series about how to drive a car??
The fact that this was made 4 years ago and he still responds to peoples feedback shows he cares.
Awesome channel. I love how you explain everything in detail and give multiple ways of doing things. Thank you for your effort.
Thanks!

Man Chris always be explained and showing things well
+Saul R🈂 thanks! That's the goal. When you're done watching I want you to have a good understanding of what you need to do so you can do it yourself!
There is actually an advantage to the tempered glass shattering into tiny pieces when hit. Although it would be bad to use on a windshield, it's great for the side windows because if it does break, it breaks into small enough pieces that you won't get injured by them if they hit you.
It’s also easier to escape if you get trapped in the car!
A word of warning to those doing this... Don't be like me and "tap" the glass so firmly you damage it further. I turned a bullseye chip into a spider crack the span of my hand from repeatedly thumping the glass from the inside too hard. Currently seeing if applying resin to the cracks and using saran wrap instead of the curing plate does it for me 😬
Same thing happened to me
Watched this video last week and even didn't know this glass repair existed , as I had a chip in my wind screen i thought I'd try this out today and low and behold it works but I don't think I would have done as good a job if I didn't watch this video or even know it could be fixed by myself so thanks again Chris fix your the very best .
