One of the best Phil Collins covers, as far as I'm concerned, and I've been a fan of his for 30 years. The track was recorded in 1989 during the But Seriously sessions, so the Two Rooms project was a long time coming. Steve Winwood is on the organ here.
HOw I miss this incredibly talented man, i love his style, rhythmic beats and songwriting, but his tributes.. his voice, his drums... a complete package to me. Phil if you ever read this... please come back... some of us really miss you!
f.....ing great version!!! love this great song, love both elton and phil, but toto's version still my favorite. listen the end of it, very carefully, piano, guitar (steeeeeve!) drums ans voice...amazing
HOw I miss this incredibly talented man, i love his style, rhythmic beats and songwriting, but his tributes.. his voice, his drums... a complete package to me. At the Genesis farm and doing the 'But Serious' album and Phil wanted to cut this for the Two Rooms tribute album to Elton and Bernie. Just Phil, Daryl Stuermer and Lee Sklar on the basic track. Phil did the piano part and then we cut the rhythm section with him drumming
@@helenespaulding7562 i mean.. he played on so many albums i annoy my friends with it like "hey, guess who's on bass on this song" "is it that santa claus dude again" "youre damn right, its lee sklar"
It seems like Phil's voice was right for this cover. I love it because it has lots and lots of power in it. I believe Phil has done Elton proud on this song.
Originally from the Two Rooms tribute to Elton John & Bernie Taupin from 1991, thankfully released again 2018 on the Phil Collins Plays Well With Others boxed set.
Not even his own song, but still one of the best things he ever did. I haven't listened to his solo songs for a long time and this one is now really one of my favourite. You Cant Hurry Love is a nice cover and not even a bad song, but compared to this? :D
Great cover done by a great artist. Cover of a perfect song, composed by a fantastic artist. Why some people have to ruin it with their stupid Phil-is-better-than-Elton remarks is beyond me.
@@ender26 I always felt Phil and Leland sounded best together on faster tempo bits like this has and the second half of Colours. Similar sounds, especially with The Phenix Horns joing in. I belive they were both recorded around the same time, so that might account for the similarities.
This isn’t a Phil Collins song in the first place. It is originally an Elton John song. This version was recorded for the “Two Rooms” album which was a tribute album for Bernie Taupin and Elton.
RadDudeski69 The "But Seriously" sessions, eh? I kind of figured that, from the subtle effect on his voice--that reverb thing he used on "Heat on the Street" and "Hang In Long Enough"--and the sound of that piano, the Yamaha Electric, which comes from the "Groovy Kind of Love" cover he did for "Buster."
Its from the Two Rooms album. Other good songs on the album are 'Philadelphia Freedom" by Hall & Oates, "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" by The Who, "Levon" by Jon Bon Jovi, "Rocket Man" by Kate Bush and "Bitch Is Back" by Tina Turner.
Checked in here a couple days after the tribute. Nice to know his music is getting saluted once again, but I like performances by his contemporaries. Phil came a long way from his days as the drummer in Genesis when this one came out.
I believe it's from the Elton John and Bernie Taupin Tribute album, "Two Rooms" (1991), but I'm not the person who uploaded this song though. If you haven't heard this album before, see if you can find some other tunes from it because it's really good. Especially George Michael's version of "Tonight". That's by far my personal fave from that tribute album, with this jam a very close second.
+Roger Nevez It's considered rare because the "Two Rooms" CD on which it originally appeared is currently out of print in the US and the reason why it is currently out of print is because the record label that originally manufactured it, PolyGram Records, was bought out by Universal several years ago and the guy who owns the copyrights to the CD and also financed the project, John Reid hasn't given Universal permission to manufacture and re-distribute the CD...yet. John Reid was also Elton's long time manager for many years.
Joshua Montague Not at mine. Public libraries are usually the first place to check for stuff that's out of print. After all, that's one of the main reasons why they're called libraries for, but a lot of people out there either don't know that or they see a library as some place with books they had to go and read back when they were in school since nearly all schools have libraries. The public libraries in some of the smaller communities however don't have the funding to acquire a music collection and until a few years ago, many even did not have computers or Internet. That was the main reason why Bill Gates, who was still running Microsoft at the time, started the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. My library benefited big time in their donations of computers to it. I've since volunteered many hours in it teaching workshops on how to use a computer. You probably wouldn't believe it, but there are still people out there who never even used a computer before.
The bass line here is fantastic.
Absolutely! It´s Leland.
oh man Elton John and Phil Collins... two legends!!!
Made in England.
Phil Collins brought us some great music

Instantly this song is PERFECT in his voice. Brilliant
This is off the album Two Rooms, a tribute to Elton John with various artists singing Elton tunes. If you like Elton's music, then it's a must have...
I had it on cassette many moons ago!! Kate bush version of rocket Man is outstanding!!
Hall and Oates Philadelphia Freedom. Great Album
What a great cover!!!!!!! Wow! I love Eltons early work...great combination!
Wow this is such a Great Song fromsuch a Great Singer as well as the Greatest Drummer in this world ❤️
i love it. phil always put full emotion into everything that he sings.
incredible ...oh what an emotion for me to listen this song ...Phil is the best and the most completely musician ...that i EVER KNOW...
Phill Collins is truly fantastic, this version is a masterpiece
phil collins living legend!
Unreal! Heard Elton play this live and I'm a big fan of Phil's so this is a nice surprise!
Happy Birthday Phil!
I really don't know which one to run out of with Toto's, Phil's or Elton's are all unique, the truth is that Elton composed a HUGE song.
He kills the second verse! Love it
LOVE this version! Elton's original is awesome, but Collins takes it to a whole 'nother level
I love Elton’s original version, but honestly I have to say, I like Phil’s version better.
I just listened to Elton's version.
I feel like Phil Collins made the song sound like he was thee original artist.
Very good cover but Elton’s live version post vocal chord surgery is miles ahead of this.
I don't think so.
totally agree!
First time hearing this by Phil collins he did a wonderful job on this Elton and Bernie tune
This is a great interpretation of a great Elton John song. Phil you did it your way and did Sir Elton proud!
My favorite piano sound, the Yamaha CP-70 electric grand, as well as the signature drum sound!! :)
Ive wanted one for years. You can even play them in acoustic mode.
One of my favorite Bernie Taupin songs 👍❤️
thank you Phil and Elton!!!
I love this version.
Ponho o fone de ouvido e Ouço esra bela música que é acompanhada pelo Grande Baixista Leland Sklar, e sua técnica do som aveludado. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

he's back
Awesome ❤
Faithful and powerful. What a voice.
That's why Phil has sold over 300 million singles & Albums 💯👍Legend
Phil Collins has so many tracks, that are literally hidden gems, that it's amazing.
For sure but this is not his own song
Yes, but as @vp6941 said, this is a cover of an Elton John song for the “Two Rooms” tribute album.
Great version of this song. Elton should be proud of Phil's effort on this piece.
Phil has SOUL!
A great song by Phil. Not heard this one before.
it’s a cover of an elton john song!
It’s a cover. Originally by Elton John.
Phil Collins maravilhoso essa voz inconfundível divino apaixonante dimais 💟💟💟💟💟💟
Adoro essa música.....
That snare drum... LOVE IT!

The Cabbage Patch Kid of Rock. Without doubt one of THE best ever. Thank you Peter Gabriel for stepping down and letting this phenom step up!

f.....ing great version!!! love this great song, love both elton and phil, but toto's version still my favorite. listen the end of it, very carefully, piano, guitar (steeeeeve!) drums ans voice...amazing
Can be found on a Elton John CD Two rooms along with other top artists covering his songs😁Love this version
This is from the Two Rooms cd. A collection of Elton John covers by various artists. This one is the absolute BEST!!!
A great album.
Kinda pissed, my dad use to have the album but we lost it while moving. And now it seems to be impossible to find the album
HOw I miss this incredibly talented man, i love his style, rhythmic beats and songwriting, but his tributes.. his voice, his drums... a complete package to me. Don't' forget, Steve Winwood on the B3.
Agree 💯 It's not often I see another Cherie that loves Phil Collins music as much as I do
No comparison. Phil blows Elton off the map with his cover...in every way. Rob December 20, 2020
ABSOLUTELY!!
Its quite good, but Eltons version ist better. Drums are not great in Phils version.
As timely now as ever. God save us from 2020.
We survived! Well most of us.
Incrível......
Love this!
Luv this cover it's been Collonised ✌️
Ladies and Gentlemen...Mr Steve Winwood on organ!
Aww mate
Steve winwood.
Best voice ever!!
It's such a beautiful instrument.. And of course wonderful playing!!
And the great Leland Sklar on bass. Crazy good musicians on this!

Looks great!
ILOVE THE MUSIC THE SONG AND THE SOUND AII TO PHIL💘💘💘💘👍

I bet Elton's chuffed.
Fantastic amazing cool …. Somebody knows about spotfy link to This song ?

Ladies and gentleman Mr Leland Sklar on bass guitar
Very astute.😊
amazing voice,and great song!
I agree, great arrengment!
Not even his own song, but still one of the best things he ever did. I haven't listened to his solo songs for a long time and this one is now really one of my favourite.
You Cant Hurry Love is a nice cover and not even a bad song, but compared to this? :D
I had no Idea, this is actually fantastic
this is definitely from But Seriously sessions. No doubt about this one. I like his cover on this song
its from an Elton John tribute album but it was just after "But Seriously..." if I remember well...
Sounds familiar that guy , whats he talking about,
Cool
First chord he hit is also Groovy Kind's first chord
Oh, very astute. :D
Nicholas Tosoni That meant to be a joke right? lol
No, no, I'm completely serious. "Astute" is a very good thing. It means, among other things, "insightful."
Nicholas Tosoni Hmm...new words for today. Excuse me for that. I'm Thai and I'm not a really good English user, perhaps. Haham
Sometimes I didn't know much of its meaning that I thought it was all sarcasm or something like that.
Epic
Great cover done by a great artist. Cover of a perfect song, composed by a fantastic artist. Why some people have to ruin it with their stupid Phil-is-better-than-Elton remarks is beyond me.
Whoa-you should hear the Genesis fans scream Peter’s better no Phil’s better!! 🤣
I like this version more than Elton's :)
I like the base on this one!
The legendary Leland Sklar. He played with Phil, Jackson Browne, James Taylor and countless others.
@@ender26 I always felt Phil and Leland sounded best together on faster tempo bits like this has and the second half of Colours. Similar sounds, especially with The Phenix Horns joing in. I belive they were both recorded around the same time, so that might account for the similarities.
Song about arson. Classic! A lot of songs have meanings that we don’t notice. Always something.
I would love to hear him cover Take me to the pilot tbh
Perhaps the greatest bass line from Lee Sklar
With the long instrumental breaks, this sounds more like Genesis than a Phil Collins solo.

Brilliant remake by Phil the maestro. Better than the original IMHO
sos y seras el mejor
I think it was a good move to use an electric piano instead of an acoustic one. It accommodates Phil's soft voice very well.
Lee, we love you and just to show you how much... here is a finger!! ^I^^ ^

absolutely love this versio. better than the original, in my opinion, but not as good as the Live In Australia version.
I love some of Elton's work, but this one is way better than original!
Phil Collins genius
Y'all Phil Collins can do NO WRONG!!!
It's this song on the But Seriously 2015 remaster
I like THIS almost better than Elton
Great song about arson.
Actually, it's just a great song 🙄

there are people who think Phil Collins is better than Elton John? That's just... wow.
I think you meant to reply to the other person but ended up replying to me instead. But yeah, Two Rooms is a very good album.
This version is better than the Toto version. But no one can top Elton's version
@VonSteiner Elton John wrote it...
Really good but not better than Elton's version.
