And it's only Tina and Rachel that received at least a solo, a duet, and lead in group number in competitions. And Roderick received a solo in invitational. If invitational's included, it would boost Roderick's time as well as Kitty and Spencer, they got a duet lol.

but like the fact that Kurt was an OG ND member, had a stellar voice, and yet the longest time he got to sing in New Directions (not as a warbler) was 16 seconds....like huh???
@@JustEdgeOfficial there where better voices then Kurt but of s3 team Kurt still is number 3 on male voices. its just when ya put whole team together Kurt ends up in middle of the pack. they acted like Kurt was best male singer in s1 he wasn't that belongs to Artie. like what was showed didn't match claims made in show. im still annoyed that Artie and Kurt never got duet as friends if Artie and Blaine as friends can do to duets 1 at competition(control is duet spoken words don't count) and no one flinch i don't see why Artie and Kurt couldn't get duet. actually in duets if done right in s2 been perfect time. Kurt was feeling lonely and whole Brittany situation that happened to Artie it just made so much sense for them sing friendship duet but nope they had go all weird and bring Rachel into things. Kurt had a beautiful voice, but many times the solos he would've shined on went to one of the girls, not to mention, they did a lot of ballads and pop songs, and Kurt's voice is made for theatrical, emotional numbers (Being Alive, Rose's Turn, As If We Never Said Goodbye, Defying Gravity, For Good). He could've been utilized better if they wouldn't have gave Rachel so many vocal solos (especially in early seasons). It was the same issue with Mercedes. She deserved competition solos, but instead, she was given power belts. Kinda disappointing, but I'm not shocked.
See what separates the New Directions from other show choirs like Vocal Adrenaline or the Warblers is that they clearly value all their voices equally. Oh wait
Well for vocal adrenaline they always used jessie and unique as the lead while the others where essentially backup dancers and the wablers literally only used blaine, sebastian, and hunter say what you will about new directions but out all the other important glee clubs they were the only ones with actual variety

Will set up the ND so the outcasts can shine but clearly showed favouritism when it came to who was going to sing a solo.
Absolutely shocked that Tina had more time than Mercedes. It’s not that Tina isn’t incredibly talented, she is, but she was also given practically no attention in the club and while Mercedes was underrated for the insane amount of talent she had, she was given plenty more credit than Tina. Also, Mercedes literally had her own girl group how did she not beat Tina in time 😂
That's because even if Mercedes is given more credits, except when she left the Glee club, she only sang high and powerful notes at the end of songs. That's impressive but doesn't last long. Tina, well... They did her dirty with Gangnam style but it gave her screen time
It's noticeable that Tina carried two songs (ABC & Gangnam) even though both are technically group numbers (Ryder and Kitty are backup for Gangnam), but she also has decent sections in the S4 and S5 songs. A lot of Mercedes's competition songs were often split between 3-6 people, and she'd often get adlibs.

I find it hilarious that Tina is No.4 and yet we all still agree she didn’t get enough solos. I totally agree with that by the way. I just find it funny that even a person that high on the rankings still got the short end of the stick. It’s even worse if you consider that she’s 3rd if you only count New Directions performances. And the majority of her time is from competitions where Rachel, Mercedes and Santana were not able to sing for New Directions for whatever reason.
Here’s what always bothered me about Rachel, not only did she had to have the solo/duet, but also a prominent lead in every group number, except for that one time in season 2. Like the group number part could showcased a different talent… but no!

All I can say is thank god for the trouble tones. If you take out Edge of Glory, Survivor, and what doesnt kill you: Britt- 48sec (16th to 21st) Santana- 2min 29sec (8th to 12th) Mercedes- 2min 36sec (6th to 11th)
Okay so every other group they mainly competed with basically consisted of a whole group of dancers and 1 singer. So the thing that could give ND the win was that they had pretty much ALL singers. But instead in s1-3 they decided to basically only showcase 1 voice while a bunch of singers attempted to dance in the background and not only that.. they also never showcased the 2 people who could actually dance🙃
This🙌 and even if Rachel did get a majority of the songs I don’t get why they couldn’t give Mike and brittany some kind of dance solo. I mean I know Rachel was mad that they were going to dance in front of her while she sang so maybe that’s why🙃lol the only time they got a dance showcase was when santana had a solo(aka the only other person in s1-3 who got a solo 🥲)
s3 sectionals group number was well set up as was regionals s3 group number. Man in the mirror and fly/i belive i can fly. s2 Valerie was dancing show case.
Rachel had a lesser amount of chances to sing aswell out of the og cast because she couldnt preform at sectionals in season 3 and she STILL beats everyone by a long shot
I mean Quinn, Brittany, Kurt and Puck only sang in 2 competitions I think, so I think Rachel having solos in every competition (despite those 2), it’s still unfair. Mike only sang in one tho.
the fact that rachel was 12 min ahead of blaine even though she didnt sing in 2 competitions, he was in the glee club for 1 season longer than her and was in the warblers as well (he sang all the competition numbers from them i think) is ridiculous
When I saw Rachels time I was SHOCKED. Also my all time favourite and for me the most memorable is sectionals s2, aka the one where Rachel doesn’t sing at all.
As a Tina fan, I was SHOOK she was 4th (and actually #3 not counting Blaine’s Warbler performances). Glad she finally got her leading lady moment in her senior year. I remember being so disappointed that she never sang in any competitions for her first two years, and then her first solo had to be Gangnam Style of all things. 😂

The fact that Finn's actor auditioned with a drum solo, and still got second in this. Makes me think the "Kurt has a huge crush on Finn" storyline was a weird self insert by Ryan Murphy. Change my mind.
To be fair Cory was brought there to act, singing was not the main focus in his cast, and he did his thing. The drum thing was just to show that he had any kinda of musicality in him wich he did. He could more than carry a tune right from the beggining Somebody to love? and he improved a lot: Paradise by the dashboard light? But something that bothers me is how the producers invested in training his voice and not Heather and Harry or maybe even Mark, and how they casted Kevin who out shined him in every walking living way and pretend he wasn't better than Finn by miles
This video was really well done! I like how you made it clear how much each character sang, from which song, what episode it was performed in and how much from each song, as well as the seasons they performed in and the amount of songs. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And Rachel also skipped a competition in the third season. I was surprised by Sam in top 10 even though he wasn't in first season and he wasn't a regular in third season.
I can't believe that I literally missed Kurt's part because I skipped ahead less than 20 seconds. I thought you forgot Kurt for some reason, but no, it was the showrunners who did that anytime a competition was underway! And the fact that the majority of his songtime was from a single duet in his stint as a WARBLER rather than the New Directions...
Rachel was in every season 1-6, however, Tina, Brittany, and Artie were in more competition episodes than her because she was older than them and graduated before they did so she was in competitions seasons 1-3 and they were in competitions seasons 1-4. So, it is kind of crazy that even though they were in more comps than her, she still had a crazy overflow of time in the competition performances compared to everyone else.
Love how nobody had ten minutes of solos and then Rachel had fucking 20. Could’ve given Santana, Mercedes, Artie, Marley and literally everybody else like 30 seconds each of her solos and I bet they would’ve won more. Notice how solo songs for other characters are the most popular like Valerie and I am Telling You I’m Not Going Away while Rachel’s most famous is one she sings 40 other times through the show. I bet of all of her songs you can maybe name 5 and one of them is I Feel Pretty/Unpretty which is the only one that actually is memorable and it’s a duet, all of her solos are of her belting and it gets sooooo bland and forgettable after like 2 seasons.
I was thinking that the joke about Tina saying that she always be the customer girl and then i see that actually she was the 4th person that has more time in competitions LOL
tbh i think glee still did a great job highlighting other voices compared to how other shows/films gave emphasis on their characters overall. Without the comparison, however, the distribution isn't still obviously as well-rounded as it should be.

Rachel and Finn both had to much time. Rachel amount is ridiclous. and Finn should had less as others are better then him.

And Rachel also skipped a competition in the third season. I was surprised by Sam in top 10 even though he wasn't in first season and he wasn't a regular in third season.

I thought you forgot Kurt for some reason, but no, it was the showrunners who did that anytime a competition was underway! And the fact that the majority of his songtime was from a single duet in his stint as a WARBLER rather than the New Directions...

I cant decide whether or not I’m surprised that Rachel still managed to have an abundance of more time than members who were in more seasons than her
Rachel was in every season 1-6, however, Tina, Brittany, and Artie were in more competition episodes than her because she was older than them and graduated before they did so she was in competitions seasons 1-3 and they were in competitions seasons 1-4. So, it is kind of crazy that even though they were in more comps than her, she still had a crazy overflow of time in the competition performances compared to everyone else.

Love how nobody had ten minutes of solos and then Rachel had fucking 20. Could’ve given Santana, Mercedes, Artie, Marley and literally everybody else like 30 seconds each of her solos and I bet they would’ve won more. Notice how solo songs for other characters are the most popular like Valerie and I am Telling You I’m Not Going Away while Rachel’s most famous is one she sings 40 other times through the show. I bet of all of her songs you can maybe name 5 and one of them is I Feel Pretty/Unpretty which is the only one that actually is memorable and it’s a duet, all of her solos are of her belting and it gets sooooo bland and forgettable after like 2 seasons.
