    One thing I like about the VQ is that because of the greater displacement you can achieve the same hp levels with less boost, good for reliability and longevity.

      Exactly!!! He said himself he modified his VQ the wrong way & never got it right of course he going to chose 3.0 lol would his opinion be different if he supercharged or TT the VQ in the first place ?? I think it would! VQ is going to be more reliable in the long run period I'm sorry I just can't agree with him!! Its VQ all day 💯💯

      I had a 650whp 370z supercharged and it’s still all the same. Modifying these engines is always a gamble. There is no making power and reliable.

    • @videomaniac108
      @videomaniac108 2 роки тому +1

      @@EnthusiastPOV I think if you go that high, to 650 hp, there's no way to avoid a significant loss of reliability/longevity in that engine. Nissan states that you can go as high as 450 crank hp without needing to do any strengthening mods, so we may be looking at about a 5 psi boost level in manifold pressure as a limit for an engine that's to have a long life.

    Got a '17 Red Sport TwinTurbo. I've added a Burger cold intake, + a special MagnaFlow exhaust, then did an optimized Tune that maximizes overall Boost. A few other mods that I wont go into...but my RedSport TT now is pumping out closer to 500hp to the wheel so you can figure out the torque figures yourselves. Im a Porsche guy who has a GT2 RS so I get it; this Infi Q60RedSportTT is now a beast and the best daily driver I have. Better than my Targa and thats hard for me to say.

    Simple
    Vq37 more reliable, longer history than VR literally bulletproof, makes good power out of factory but expensive to mod even with tune you won’t push over 400hp with full bolt ons maybe if you build the internals you can get close to 400hp but it’s so limited unless you boost but that can get very expensive as well.
    VR Well it’s a newer engine, not as reliable, heatsoaking but makes great power when modded. It still has a long way to go and it’s going to get better or worst who knows. Also expensive to mod you for the money you make better power than the VQ with just simple bolt ons.

    I’m on the other side of the spectrum w my NA V8 on my FBO ISF. I love this car, but I’m looking at the q60 for my next car in a couple of years and I like to do my research beforehand (Did 2 years of research before pulling the trigger on the F). It was between the Q60RS and the RCF, but after reading up on the 3.0 engine and then coming to your videos, the RS is no longer in one of my choices, now between the 3.0 vs RCF, but with the money savings from the 3.0, I can use to match (if not exceed) the RCF’s 460 horse. And still have a good amount of money leftover. So thank you again for sharing your experience! If all goes through well, it’ll be my first Infiniti.

      That would be a great setup, but it would kick the GT-R's ass and Nissan would lose sales on it. Actually, I think a great setup for the Z would be to stick with a lightweight N/A V-6, or V-8, and go for a displacement increase to get hp levels to about 400 at the crank. I like the greater simplicity, reliability and lower weight of a N/A engine. Nissan did a great job in producing a very efficient and sophisticated V-6 in making the VQ37VHR, they could continue the refinement process on it for the next gen Z.

    I'm concerned with the possible problem of carbon coking on the intake valves and ports of the VR30DDTT due to its GDI system on a turbo engine. Would that necessitate something like a walnut shell blasting of the intake ports every 30K miles or so? I know that VW and BMW were having problems with this on their GDI turbo engines.

    I have a '13 Maxima and had an '03 M45 a while back. I want to move back to Infiniti and like you I am looking at the Q50 or Q60. I've been seeing some 2018 Q50 lower-end models coming in under $30K even with the 3.0t. (Not even remotely interested in the 2.0t) I was wondering why they are going for so cheap. Some 2014-2015 models (unless they have high miles) are still more expensive than the newer Q50s and I can't seem to find out why in my research. The biggest difference between the updated versions is the engine. So I'm wondering if that is the reason for the lower asking rate for the 2017-2018 models? Having had my Maxima for 3 years now, I know Nissan can build a very reliable naturally-aspirated V6. I'm not so sure about turbo engines. Now, with the low asking rate for the Q50 3.0t, I'm even more concerned. I know you haven't had the 3.0t too long but what is your opinion regarding reliability so far vs. the 3.7? My biggest concern is over the long haul. I plan to keep my next car for at least 5 or so years. Right now, the 3.0t engine is still fairly new so there's nothing to go by if it will go the distance like the naturally-aspirated ones have.
    EDIT: Let me clarify, all the Q50's I've been looking at are USED, even the 2018s.

    Sold my q50 fbo except for stock turbos on e50 but I did not liked the slow tranny which made it slow compared to other cars in same mods. Turbos started smoking when i added the full downpipes, and just to replace those suckers you need to drop the subframe with engine and tranny. Car made 490hp/550tq, if you are looking for a really fast car just get a supra, throw a downpipe and ecutek and you are set. Got myself a 370z and I really don’t miss the power and i know I won’t be spending 5k on mew turbos or replacing the freaking belt. Overall transmission and turbos are the biggest negatives.

    @Midwest Hoonigan Great video. A shop has done a swap of the 3.7 to 3.0 on a 370Z and I'm researching on doing the same but my only concern would be difficulty with keeping AC and power steering since I'd like an OEM feel and experience with the car. With your experience with both platforms, would you say the two are distant relatives or is the layout almost identical with exception of the turbo and heat exchanger components?

      It's all about maintenance, always change the oil, transmission, rear diff,(front diff&transfer case/awd) & coolant at the proper intervals. Change spark plugs and timing chain/belts every 30k-60k. Just depends as each engine is different so keep up with the FSM. The VR30DDTT has a belt, the VQ has a chain. A belt doesn't necessarily mean it's inferior to a timing chain. The VG30DETT in the 300zxTT had a belt as well, its FWD variant the VE30DE has a timing chain. It's genuinely a little easier to replace timing belts as they have easier access since they are often changed more frequently than timing chains. It can be a p.i.t.a. to change a timing chain in a VQ. But it's not that difficult. A lot of ppl neglect to do this maintenance after their warranties are up. It's the one downside in purchasing a used car. For the most part you're more likely to have a better maintained engine with an Infiniti than a Z. The Z would likely be owned by someone a lot younger who beat it all to hell. Infiniti owners for the most part tend to be older and could afford to properly maintain the car even after the warranty was up. They also weren't racing everyone they could. I don't know about the VQ37VHR'S as I only have the 2nd gen VQ35DE. But mine is at 206k and it's as strong and reliable as ever. It was well maintained, I can only second guess when the timing chain was changed. The timing guide tensioners were it's weak point. But it should of been taken care of during the recall. Timing chains can last the entire life of the engine well past 200k. I figure my engine had everything replace between the 80k-120k range. If not, than it's still going strong. I just replaced valve covers and gaskets and there was no sludge on the inside of the covers. No burnt oil residue either. The cams looked great, rockers were clean, valve bodies clean,etc. When I took the plenum off it had minimal oil residue, which I eliminated any further build up with a catch can. The valves were surprisingly clean as well when I looked down the intake manifold. So my analysis was that it was taken care of fairly well. I could also tell that the majority of it's miles were all highway miles based off clues from the wear and tear of the interior parts. I'm highly confident that this engine will still have plenty of life left in it. I'm hoping I can get it to 300k as I don't plan on ever selling it. I'll eventually save up for a Q60 myself, and I'll do a swap for the G35X I currently have. I'd like a more unique sedan build. Only a few have done it for Formula D drifting events. Anyways Nissan's are highly reliable but so are just about any other platform. Well not all are built equal so I take that back. Then again it could also just be the luck of the draw. Could just end up with not necessarily a lemon,but just one that falls apart for whatever reason. I've had an 02 Z28 Camaro that was at 215k when I sold it. It was still running strong,but I babied that thing. Then I've also owned a 95 BMW M3 and it started falling apart on me at 165k. Which is why a lot of ppl are hesitant in purchasing such a high mileage vehicle. I don't even consider 80k to be high mileage. Anything under 160k is mid range for me. If they can provide maintenance records than hell yeah even better. You'll know that you'll get another 5-10yrs out of it if it's a Nissan. So if you get one that's under 70k, then you could have a reliable car for the next 10-20yrs easily. One things for sure, it'll definitely hold it's value. Hell I see 16yr old Infiniti G35s going for 3k-6k all day. They go for even more if they are 06-08 VQ35HR's.

    I generally agree with what’s said. However, having raced tuned turbo Q’s with my very mildly boosted G and after the Q’s initial half to car length lead out of the hole, my G will walk the Q badly. By around 200 ft I will have 2 cars on the Q. And I spent right around 2200 is all, for the mods for it. Plus, I don’t have to worry about reliability issues with this motor. I’m sure the new turbo 3.0’s will be reliable, but it’s not known for sure, yet.

      Even if the 3.7 has more power throughout the entire rpm range? Idk about having strong turbos up until i get to 4.5k rpms... I think 3.7 and then maybe adding a single turbo would be the BEST route considering it'd be like a best of both worlds... vq engine.... turbo.... reliability... all the goods 👍

  • @xRSAkingx
    @xRSAkingx 4 роки тому

    I hate people that complain about RPM. Dude... 450hp/tq is 450 hp/tq. The chevy LS is arguably the most popular engine swap and it rarely sees rpms above 7k and yet it is a serious performance contender.... just an example. Don't wanna upset anyone. But complaining about rpms is like complaining about a car that makes 400 hp/tq NA as opposed to a turbo car that makes 400 hp/tq turbo.
