    Hey guys! Thanks for being patient with uploads. My editor and me are trying to upload at least once a week, so stay tuned for that! @ 11:55, there is an error with the 2200G results. Correct results are as follows:
    Avg: 76.3
    1% Low: 61

      Definitely the 2200G

  • @LowSpecGamer

    That section of the CSGO benchmark with the smoke can draw a GTX 1060 to its knees in lowest settings. There is something about not just the smoke but amount of characters behind of it that draws all GPUs crazy.
    I had no idea you could still OC the iGPU on this thing. I know what I am going to be doing for the next few days, it might be a great video topic!
    Edit: Also important to note, if you live in a place with prices close to advertised retail priced, yeah the difference with the 2200G might not seem like much but since prices scale differently on other countries there are interesting case studies where the difference stop making as much sense!

    • @OzTalksHW
      @OzTalksHW  6 років тому +33

      It's interesting because $50 for double performance seems like a no brainer, but when $50 is 1/5th of your entire budget, it makes a big difference :P. Thanks for watching! I have some very early iGPU overclocking benchmarks, but I'd love to see an in depth analysis on the matter. Let me know how it goes and if you need any help :)

      You are right about the prices. In India, it is still a better option to buy 2200G, atleast for me. 200GE here is selling for 68$ and 2200G is selling for 106$.

  • @AdriansNetlis
    @AdriansNetlis 6 років тому +142

    $250 and $300 is 20% more price, while providing around 100% more performance.

    • @evers6214
      @evers6214 6 років тому +12

      Adrians Netlis True. But the argument could be made that the athlon with a $60 used gpu will outperform the 2200g on vega 8. Yeah the quadcore is faster but for gaming at this level the gpu is almost always the bottleneck. I could see an argument for both products depending on current needs and future upgrade plans. Love this channel how he compares stuff to help us decide which route to take

    • @greasystrangler6250
      @greasystrangler6250 6 років тому +12

      You'd probably be pretty hard-pressed to find a used videocard that handily bests the 2200G for $60. Your best option is hoping to find a used 1030, but it's a sigegrade at best, and you can basically guarantee someone overclocked it, if they're already unloading it.
      If you're considering used, you could just get an entire Haswell system for $300 with random gaming card that would blow this away as well.

      you can get 750 ti for that price, wonder how Athlon will perform...

    • @evers6214
      @evers6214 6 років тому

      Well, back in May of this year OZ did a video of brand new 750ti 2gb cards (not scam) being sold on Ali express for $60. the 750ti 2gb stomps the 1030, 2200g, and 2400g no problem. On Ebay used rx550 frequently go for $60 - $70 (including shipping) and beat the 2200g when paired with a modern cpu. Local markets like craigs list and facebook marketplace can occasionally have good deals on old hardware. One guy I saw just sold a RX 560 4gb nearby for $50. (I missed it I was too slow) Not everyone wants the risk and/or has the time to buy used hardware but it can be an option.

    • @AdriansNetlis
      @AdriansNetlis 6 років тому +1

      @@evers6214 RX 560 4GB for $50? Now that's a bargain.
      However, I believe that getting 2200G and then later saving up for GPU is optimal at those budgets.

      If I were running things at AMD I would start with a Samsung 8nm die with two enhanced Athlon cores connected by on-die Infinity Fabric. Each of the two “CCX” modules would have 2 CPU cores with Hyperthreading and Vega 8 graphics. The Ryzen 3 3100GX could have 4 fully functional CPU cores, 2 cores per module, with each module having Vega 7 graphics (one CU per module disabled) with the two Vega 7 GPUs in Crossfire mode. The Ryzen 3100G could have 4 CPU cores with Hyperthreading disabled and dual Vega 5 graphics in Crossfire mode. By severing the die in two across the on-die Infinity Fabric link, two Athlon 300GE parts with single channel DDR4 memory buses would be produced. These Athlon 300GE cores could be clock locked at 3.6 GHz with Vega 5 graphics.
      With the introduction of the Samsung 7nm process the Ryzen 3 3200G/3200GX cores could be introduced, with 8 CPU cores and Navi 10/15 graphics (Navi 16 with 6 or 1 CUs disabled). The 8nm parts could then all be Athlon 350GE parts with unlocked cores and Vega 6 graphics. If Zen 2 really does yield 13% higher IPC, and Samsung’s 8nm process yields a 25% increase in clock, this could result in Athlon 300GE having over 100% higher CPU performance and 93.75% of the graphics performance of Ryzen 3 2200g, with the main limitation being single channel DDR4 memory. Having said this, Ryzen 3 3200GX would have twice the CPU cores and a higher clock, as well as 2.5 times the GPU CU count, with Navi graphics instead of Vega, with just twice the memory bandwidth with dual channel memory. So dual channel Ryzen 3 3200GX would be even more bandwidth limited than Athlon 350GE.

But for example I needed a new cable modem asap so looked up prices for Walmart and have 2 within 10 mins(15 if traffic is bad) of each other and there was a $12 dollar difference on the exact same Linksys modem from one Walmart to the other simply because that higher priced Walmart is near a hospital, smaller community college, and upper middle class suburb. it's all bullshit!

    The WD10EZEX is astonishingly quick and capable considering how little it costs. It's no SSD but feels much snappier than a lot of people might think possible from a spinning disk, it's also really quiet. I have one as a secondary disk and loading games off it is not all that much slower than loading them off my Samsung 850 evo. The reason for this is without doubt because the 1TB is the only drive in the "blue" range that is 7200rpm instead of 5200rpm. If you can stretch to that 1TB drive instead of the 500gb - even buying it second hand if you want to save some cash - you absolutely will not regret it.

    I can't see myself buying a setup like this for gaming, however it's almost time to upgrade the computers I built for my church's library several years back(3 of them), and these would make some really good solid basic computer for use with Xubuntu 18.04 64bit, as AMD is very well supported with the open source drivers in the kernel. So I hope you also give this system some Linux love to see how it stacks up for general use, and gaming.

      Terraria Heaven I've tried Arch, and Manjaro, but they are not really my thing, as i like an OS I can install, and not worry about without having to do much configuration afterwards, and for me Xubuntu is a good balance of lightweight performance(Unless we are talking Intel ATOM, or some the AMD E/C series APU's), and not having to do too much to get things up, and running after install, along with being friendly enough for people who have never used Linux, and in some cases where I just want to make it even more simple, and I have compatible hardware then I install Cloud Ready OS Home Edition(Chromium OS), set an admin account, and guest account, and no worries on my end unless they release an update that just borks everything from working proper. But that's the beauty of Linux different strokes for different folks.

      The 2200G is not really stable yet on Linux, because AMD had to rewrite substantial parts of their driver to accommodate the Raven Ridge CPUs. You need at least kernel 4.19 and so far I can't find anyone on the Web who managed to use Raven Ridge for 3D gaming. I think this Athlon counts as Raven Ridge too, which is a real shame, because otherwise it would be ideal for me.

    EDIT: Now I feel like a dick for pointing out one more small thing, the overwatch slide at 11:40 and (12:10) is a little misleading when you look at the athlon avg FPS and Ryzen 3 min FPS. They're the same, but the bar goes further on the Ryzen line, making the performance seem even better, contradictory to the numbers. :'D

      Randall Smith even the g4560 is slightly faster on cpu performance, but the g4560 still goes for the $70 range now. It’s also slower than the 200ge on gpu performance.

    Thanks for doing the budget stuff. Though I have built up to a mid-level machine now, I think it's deceptive to always focus on the most expensive side of things; it tells people that they can only have fun if they pay $1500 for some kind of mega-machine. Scrimping, saving, and building something cheap is an extremely satisfying experience, and it's fun to build up from there.
    It's fun to watch those more expensive build videos, though. Don't get me wrong. One day.

    The 2200g is only 80$ at Microcenter, not much point in getting this CPU unless you get it even cheaper or you don't care about gaming. For building a system that will not be doing heavy gaming or being put in any intensive situation (like web browsing), the 200ge is a great cpu if you just want something that's cheap, quiet and good enough for normal use. People do tend to overestimate how much you need from a CPU or computers in general.
    Great video as always!

      For any meaningful gaming you are looking at adding something like an RX550 or GT1030 to it to be truly playable, at which point the 2200g or 2400g become the far better bang for your buck being able to skip the graphics card entirely

    The Athlon 200GE Is GREAT imho!! This is the processor a teen can convince his/her parents/grandparents to buy because it's the cheapest option - yet it still has some (although limited) gaming capability. Intels integrated graphics still can't game for shit - and this one "sort of" can. You might not get the same computing power, but for most non-gaming/imageprocessing/and so on - users, this simply doesn't matter as long as it runs "the internet", "the word" and "the powerpoint" well - which this processor will. It shouldn't really be compared to the 2200G - but rather be seen as a "Ryzen 1 2000G". If you want to make the argument that this comparison is useful, I will return with "Yeah but the 2400G is about 50$ more" and then the next guy will go "Well for only about 50$ more you can get a Ryzen 5 1400 + a GT 1030" .... And you can keep going. The conclusion should instead be "holy shit you can get an APU that can ACTUALLY run games for 55$!!! Obviously - all your benchmarks should have been run in 720p (Overwatch and Fortnite)... since most of the people who buys a system like this most likely will only have a 720p monitor.
    Oh and all the people suggesting that "you can just get a used X on Y website" - stop talking nonsense. Most people will never buy used hardware, since most people aren't nerds like me - and you since you wouldn't be watching this if you weren't a nerd - and thus they want to be able to go back to the store and say "It's not working! Fix it!". You can't do that if you buy an I5 from l33thaxorsgamingsales420 on amazon. :-D
    Last but not least - Take a breather people and think about what a processor like this represents. This is a "cheap as chips" APU with an insanely low powerdraw (Thermal Design Power 35W) which can run games... now don't think about a CPU like this in a gaming PC... think about it in a 250-300$ laptop - or perhaps - tablet... Suddenly - it's not a "crappy underpowered gaming solution" but rather a laptop which can run your favorite games anywhere - for less that a mid tier graphics card... Oh and this is just the first version. I'm sure more will come with equally great power efficiency - but better performance - at least that's how it usually goes with AMD APUs.

      Currently the price difference at MicroCenter is only $30 more for the better 2200G. Thats hard to ignore. I heard great things about the 200GE and went to get one. Walked out with the 2200G. The power boost was hard to ignore.
      Edit: The price difference was actually smaller since I needed a CPU fan for the AM4 board. It was my first AMD build.

    One draw back that i noticed with the Athlon 200GE is that it turns your PCIE-3.0 X16 to a X4 so really the only options for a dedicated GPU is using something like a GT 1030 or RX 550.

    • @EvilTurkeySlices
      @EvilTurkeySlices 6 років тому

      You can put more in an x4 slot.

    • @EcksGamer
      @EcksGamer 6 років тому

      You do know it converts the x16 into an x4 right so you don't get the full potential of your dedicated GPU because as an example you could be using a 200GE with a GTX 1050 and i could be using a 3220 with a GTX 1050 and really i would out perform you because i am able to use most of what the GPU can handle.

    • @EvilTurkeySlices
      @EvilTurkeySlices 6 років тому

      Ecks Gaming Benchmark the 1050 will not be bottlenecked by an x4 slot, even the 1060 probably wouldn’t be.

    Have you tried making a budget gaming pc with a xeon X3440 like techyescity? Mobo's a bit expensive, but for a 15$ quad core processor and the access to cheaper DDR3. You could save yourself enough money to buy an older dedicated graphics card, and get better performance than the 2200g. I would definitely be interested in seeing the comparison. Especially if you can OC the X3440.
    Im also still upset we havent seen a more budget oriented Vega card...

That case is just terrible though, especially if you're looking to upgrade. I'd reccomend a Deepcool Tesseract for around $40 USD in the US or Silverstone Redline RL05 for around $60 AUD in Australia.

    I'm specing out a CPU/MB/RAM replacement for an AMD FX-8300 (eight core) system that I use for Fortnite and video editing. My budget is $500 for parts and tax. Unless I can get everything on sale, I might have to compromise on something. I'm leaning towards an APU for the low cost and a future home in my FreeNAS file server. Based on benchmarks, the 2200G could hold its own against the FX-8300. Would the 200GE with a Nvidia 1050 Ti 4GB video card be good enough for a few months?
