    • @The_Man_In_Red

      APUs will not likely be hitting High settings in any nice looking modern AAA games but there's a reason they are legendary among budget builders! I used to play Skyrim & Borderlands 2 on an A8 APU :P
      If I had no choice today to buy a GPU (which thankfully I already have one) I would hands down camp the upcoming Ryzen 5 5600G listings in August. Plus with FSR coming out it has the potential to be a serious bang-for-your-buck chip and you have the option to upgrade to dedicated later on.
      Right now that's huge value especially considering it looks to achieve 1080p/60 at 100% resolution scale on a lot of games.

    • @thecasualcanuck4590
      @thecasualcanuck4590 3 роки тому +1

      @@The_Man_In_Red yeah I watch a lot of ETAPRIME and he's covered that APU pretty extensively. I'm lucky on the GPU front, I have a 2060 super, though I am waiting for a 30xx card at some point.

    • @The_Man_In_Red
      @The_Man_In_Red 3 роки тому

      @@thecasualcanuck4590
      I have a 2060 Super as well, great card for $400. Sadly with Nvidia software scheduler I'm losing about 10-15% performance with my R5 1600 which is a tad too slow for the card.
      I'll upgrade to whatever DDR5 system makes sense in 2023 and keep the 2060 Super for now.
      Tbh, 1080p/144Hz gaming isn't all that demanding once you get above a certain threshold. I don't need to upgrade right now, I just cap FPS at 85/120 depending on the game (lots of games don't look any smoother above 60 FPS anyway)
      But yah, so glad I grabbed the 2060 Super instead of waiting for a 3060 like I originally wanted to do haha.
      Unless you have a beast of a CPU (5600X or 8700k or better) I wouldn't worry overly much about upgrading your GPU to 3000 series unless you really need the FPS in 4K.

    • @thecasualcanuck4590
      @thecasualcanuck4590 3 роки тому +1

      @@The_Man_In_Red yeah I have a 3600x, and 1080p gaming is super easy, and I have a semi decent 144hz monitor. I'm mostly a console gamer, but I love tweaking stuff on pc, and building is a lot of fun. If I want to jump up to 1440p gaming then maybe I'll look for a 5600x, but I doubt I'll go that far anytime soon.

    5:57 I had a similar experience with Rage 2 on an i5-3570, 8GB ram, rx 460 2GB. I could get 40-60 fps at low setting 900p but 4 or 5 out of 10 times I loaded a save the game decided to run at 20 fps, forcing a restart of the game and sometimes a complete restart of my pc to fix it.

    I bought this APU durning the GPU shortage of 2017/2018. With the thought in mind I'd later pair with with a gpu when I could find one. Paired the APU with 8gb of fast ram (don't remember the MHz). LOL it was my first pc build. Later down the road I found an RX 570 for $120.00 came with a code for RE7R and I couldn't say no. Honestly for my first build it went well, and still going strong. I later added an SSD. For the money I put into my build. I'm happy with it.

    This was my main rig between 2019 and 2022. In 2020 my graphics card bit the dust, so I was on integrated for most of that time.
    Ditched it for a 5600x a couple months ago and built a spare parts HTPC around the 2200g. 3.85ghz (5% compared to stock boost) OC on the CPU and 1.6 ghz OC on the graphics (45% over stock) really help put it over the edge into playable territory in a lot of titles.
    I can see myself holding on to this thing for another decade or so, possibly its ultimate fate will be for me to underclock/uv it and deprecate it into file server or router duty.

    This was the CPU I picked for my first PC build. Put it together with a 1050ti and a stick of 8GB DDR4 3000 on an MSi board. Ran it for about a year or so before picking up a 1600AF and an extra stick of ram, which is now my current setup. The 2200 was able to handle what I threw at it quite well, all things considered, and paired well with the 1050 for 1080p in the games I was playing. Once I got the 1600AF was when the weakness of the GPU started to shine through.

    As a former 2400G owner, the extra threads helped with MMOs and other multiplayer games that would stress the CPU. The Vega 11 graphics doesn't perform any better than the Vega 8 found on the 2200G and the 4000G and 5000G series APUs. I think that's why AMD didn't bother going any higher than 8 units on them.
