      True. My stepmom had a first year 2nd gen Sequoia (2008 model, same engine, transmission, and front end as a Tundra). And she had more issues going from 0-100k miles than I've had from 250k-400k haha

    Crazy to see how these old toyotas hold up, 400k miles and no major issues, no fancy displacement gimmicks, those 3ur are solid reliable trucks, a little outdated on the technology but will get you A to B every time. Drive this Tundra til you can, I am sure after that transmission change/rebuild, she deserves a chance to reach 1 Million on that odo. Great work and great video, cheers.

Well once it hit over 50mph, the truck experienced a torque converter shudder. I was bummed, but then I put the "shudder fix" and hasn't shuddered ever since and that was almost 10 years ago.

    2008 CM Limited 5.7 here, just rolled 280k. Have had no issues, just the regular fluid maintenance plus brake pads/rotors, one new rad and water pump at around 200k. I don’t baby my truck mechanically but I do maintain it very well. My transmission/tc/diffs were serviced by the original owner at 100k. At 200k I did the transmission fluid again, a simple drain and fill at a Toyota dealer. Then at 250k I did the fluid exchange method via the cooler line and open thermostat. Replaced all the fluid with Valvoline synthetic ATF. It shifts perfect and always has…plus I’ve done quite a bit of heavy towing as well. Engine gets 5k oil changes and always always always 5w30 Mobil 1. Has had 5w30 synthetic for nearly all its life. My bed floor started having a few rust spots a couple years ago, but I repaired it myself. Toyota coated the frame under a recall campaign…I keep it touched up with black cosmoline. No rust anywhere else on the truck. I had the fender lips done in linex about 10 years ago…it’s a 3/8 inch reveal…eliminates rock chips that rust. Interior is still mint…I have a good set of running boards and always use to grab handle to lift up and out of the truck…never sliding on the seat. 10 years ago I installed a usb connection that allows me to plug the phone in for music and control it via steering wheel controls…12 speaker JBL is still unrivaled in any other vehicle I’ve had or been in. These trucks are absolute gold. If any of these old girls have a chance at a million miles…mine is one of them that could challenge it. I get compliments and jaw drops all the time from people…they can’t believe it’s a 2008.

    Great video Jack. I've got 233k on my 5.7L, such a great vehicle I might get another one. Regarding the transmission, I would try using Valvoline Maxlife ATF (Synthetic Red) if the WS is feeling weird. It might not change it, but I can tell you it will shift more firmly or...confidently IMO with the Maxlife. I have been running it for about 50-60k on my Sequoia, same tranny/engine you have and same external cooler, towing quite a bit too. I also used Maxlife in my daughters Corolla and my Lexus RX 350...it was great in all of them.

      @JackAttak  26 днів тому +1

      Thanks for the info. I had a shop drain and fill the transmission at around 300k and I think they used that Valvoline ATF according to the receipt I got. Maybe I'll switch back to it next time and see if shifting improves 👍

    The thing to worry about having an older vehicle is it could get totaled out in an accident. Repairs can’t be more than 60% of the value of the vehicle. Luckily Toyota trucks hold their value well. I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport double cab with 154,700 miles that I bought new. I’ve been in 2 accidents in the last 17 years, and was surprised that my insurance company approved repairs on the 2024 accident . The body shop wanted $9100 for repairs, but my insurance company was able to get them down to $7500. The body shop values my truck at just over $12,000 and my insurance company values it even higher, so they approved the repairs. The guy that failed to yield while making a left hand turn totaled his vehicle. Another vehicle that was beside me driving in same direction got totaled also. Both of those vehicles were newer than mine, but sustained more damage.

    As for your leather, mine is perforated and was getting stiff and hard (not cracking or rough though) in my Highlander. I used "Chemical Brothers" Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. Spray it on, let it sit for a minute, rub it in with my hand then wipe it off with a soft cloth.. softened them right up!

    My 2011 with the 3ur has almost 180k. I'm the only one that's ever serviced the transmission which was when I bought it with 160k. Its had a hard shift into 2nd since I bought it which was slightly improved with the transmission drain and fill (I did it twice). I've noticed if I use sport mode surprisingly the shift into second gear is much smoother. I know these transmissions aren't the smoothest to begin with, not gonna stress it until I start having a real issue.

      My 2014 did that when new. I changed the oil and put 5w20 synthetic blend and it stopped. I like the Castrol GTX blend. I’m at 130k now. Runs better than new. I put 0w20 in a couple times in a couple different brands to experiment. Definitely hear the difference. I get 20 mpg running 70 mph on flat land with the blend in cool temps. About 18.5 mpg @ 70 in heat/humidity. Same thing with the 0w20 full synthetic. Mine is a 2wd extra cab. The 5w20 blend noticeably quiets the engine on mine. I tried 5w30 blend once, and it silenced the chatter completely. Ran good, but it did lose 1-1.5 mpg on the freeway. Got about 17-17.5 mpg.

    We know you at least changed your oil to hit 400k, typically if you don’t have rust problems at 200k , replace suspension, everything on accessory belt, injectors,coils plugs and wires. Usually around 300k interior starts to fail heater fans and such. I’ve had radiators last forever if they don’t have plastic end caps.

      Honestly that's not too surprising. It's counterintuitive but age and sitting is hard on vehicles too. I'm not sure what the first owner of my truck went through in the first 100k miles but it's possible they had issues with '07 being the first year of the 2nd gen

    • @JackAttak
      @JackAttak  26 днів тому +1

      Good question, I think I overpaid when I bought it 4.5 years ago but it was really clean and well taken care of except for the body damage to the rear. I paid $9k. Prices for older Tundras have come down in the last few years, so you could buy a good one with 200k miles for less money

    400,000 miles divided by 15.6 mpg (avg) = 25,641 x 3.50 per gallon is $89,743 spent on gas 💀
