That's definitely a diamond in the rough... But something tells me by the time you put your magical touch to her, she'll shine like a brilliant beautiful diamond! Good luck... Can't wait to watch your progress. TFS!!! 😊😅
Only a rebelliously creative person could come up with a solution like this! 😊 You are a gem Marie, always thinking outside the box and we all benefit from it. Thanks!
Love your passion for working on these beautiful old machines. I recently bought a 1923 Singer 128 with “La Vencedora” decals - needs some work. I’m so fascinated by the quality and workmanship of these old machines, so just owning it at this point makes me so happy. I really enjoy your videos!
I can't say I am surprised that you did this. Brava. BTW, that machine needs A LOT OF LOVE!!! No doubt, when you are finished with her, she will be gorgeous. Have a Happy Sunday.
The black ones are pretty tough to find too. Love your creative process JB weld makes black 2 part epoxy like material that might work for those missing plates….. great video.!
Great Video! That is a JB Weld I'm not familiar with. Great Ingenuity. To eliminate the bubbles you simple need a vacuum pot. A friend made one from an old pressure cooker to make acrylic cast jewelry.
Blow some hot air in the molded mix while still liquid and you will prooboably get rid of bubbles. It depends also on the type of epoxy you use. Check out there are lots of videos on this matter. Awesome idea of yours! Wish you success!
There are different resins that can be colored. If you're planning to make a bunch, Total Boat might be a good product to use. Smaller quantities of resin can also be found at hobby stores. You can use a lighter to pop the bubbles. You could also have a machine shop make metal ones on a CNC machine.
So, I bought a replacement skide plate for a 128, I think off of Amazon. It didn't quite fit, a little to wide. I decide to grind it down. Matching the angle, I figure the key was to do it in one steady and even pass. It worked perfectly.
You could buy metal from online metals and cut it out with a jewelers saw. File the edges smooth. Check the metal gauge before ordering. Or even a piece of nickel silver.
Use a heat tool to pop the bubbles. I've seen people use the embossing heat guns, torches with an actual flame, and people just breathing on it. Haven't seen anyone use a hair dryer, but I suspect it would work. You can color the epoxy with pigment powder too. 😊 sparkles.
Interesting attempts! So, the old slide plate worked but was missing its chrome? Grind the top surface smooth and epoxy your jar-lid prototype to the top? We live in tool-and-die country so my husband’s comment was manufacture a new one out of stainless. Options would depend on what is available in your area.
Brilliant! You never know till you try!
I love the aftermarket stitch length levers with reverse - they are very much a part of the history of the few machines that have them!

WOW 👏 Great idea. I am trying to rebuild two sewing machines. If you been able to rebuild a boat bobbin case please share . Thanks.
How about resin for the slide plate? Lots of pretty colors, sparkles, etc. probably right up your alley.
Very nice job
Maybe look into envirotex.

Now, you have to make the new plate rusty to match the old one.
I have a 201 1952 singer ( I think) that is missing a plate. Thanks!
I have a piece of stainless

I think they use envirotex on those wood restaurant tables.

The entire slide plate was missing!
Heck, sell those clear slide plates. Put an multi color led underside.
OOOh I like that idea with the led light
