Re: The controversy in the comments.
Wind speeds are indeed taken at an altitude of 10m above ground level in professional meteorology. This is "standard anemometer height." Nothing to do with "accuracy." Everything to do with consistency when comparing data from one site to another.
Few of us are concerned with such things in our lives. The actual wind at two meters, or "face height" might be of more concern than that at 10 meters. The take away . . . put your weather station where you want!

Thanks for your great video's on this weather station. You're reviews helped me to decide to get one. I am moving away from a troublesome Acurite 5-in-1 to a much better system and I can't wait to get it. I have subscribed to your channel in case I need help getting this working. But the fact you have had this unit virtually trouble free for five years where you had to clean out the spiders says this is the unit for me. Again thanks for the great videos on this weather station.
Best regards, Lisa
Glad I could help! Still love it!!!
For this price, the accuracy is quite good (the main problem is transmitting wind every 16 seconds and a very poor quality UV sensor). I noticed that after a long time in a humid environment, moisture accumulated inside the housing and this caused problems with readings after about 1.5 years. You can replace the unit regularly for little money or buy a better station at a higher price, e.g. Rainwise, Davis or similar.
Are you sure rainwise is the best? What about AmbiantWeather WS-5000?? I need a weather station for my rv
Im gonna get this for my dad, great video very helpful
Thanks for watching and your dad will love it
My rain gouge died at 2 years 3 months. I replaced it and then the out side humidity meter took a dump. Sorry i got rid of the Davis.
Thanks for update
Looks pretty good hope it is still holding up!!
yes, no problems except spider webs causing rain gauge and wind direction not to read.
My questions are,
1.can it be used during a hurricane?
2. How accurate are rain and wind speed measurement?
3.is it resistance to water?
4. What is the maximum wind speed can be measured through this?
5. Can i change Units to metric?
Great Questions.
1. maybe as long as the pole holding it stays and as long as its not a cat 3 or above.
2. I find the rain and speed very accurate.
3. The outside unit is outside year round and I have not had a problem with it yet. the inside unit is not weather resistant.
4. not sure I need to find my manual.
It is rated to 100 mph, but Many Ambient weather stations have recorded over this 100 mph wind mark.
I have been looking at this one. I have been waiting to get one but with all the crazy weather going on. I would rather have real time data.
Is there option to set hourly rain rate alarm?
One thing was confusing. You pointed to the small solar panel saying you think it charges the batteries then you show it's it take non-rechargeable batteries. My guess is the solar power directly powers it during the day and batteries at night it when there isn't enough power. Maybe that's why batteries can last so long.
Wow two years for that weather station it looks practically brand new compared to stupid accurate which would be yellowed within a year and then probably start cracking and failing I'm glad I switched to Ambient weather station I got the 5000 model with the Sonic animometer so I would not have to maintenance anything I still have yet to put it up though
Yeah this is a good one, I had no idea they made them this good. This is a good company. thanks for Watching!!!
Yeah I purchased the ws5000 and I am shocked and how much stuff you can add to make it truly a professional weather station
Oh and by the way the solar panel is to charge the internal rechargeable battery the batteries that you install is just battery backup
@@Road_Runner_1949 Yes, I am not using all that it can do. Thanks your Sharing your story!!!
@@Road_Runner_1949 Ok that makes sense. Thanks!!!
From the research I’ve gathered this seems like the best value for money. Did you have any connection issues? Some commenters in Amazon reviews said they were having problems, from my experience Amazon customers struggle to review specialized equipment. For example I don’t trust their reviews on PC parts because some people simply aren’t knowledgeable enough to use/review their equipment properly. Tangent aside, would it be smart to spend more money on the higher quality screen? Thanks for your time!
I love mine and its still working after 4 years. The app was a little tricky (not the best app) I made a video on how to connect it to wifi ua-cam.com/video/NXHHJ4UmAGE/v-deo.html
Hi I have basically the same weather station but all of a sudden the time is 1 hour behind. I have tried everything but asoon as it connects to the wifi the time is wrong. The DST icon doesn't seem to be active. Any ideas? Really frustrating now
Great down-to-earth review. Makes it look pretty easy! Did you have to calibrate or assemble anything or just take it out and and put it up?
I just got it out of the box and read the directions. Most times I don't read directions but this seemed kinda complicated. Setting up the wifi and the app was really tricky. it took me several times to figure it out. directions were not the best. I made a video just on how to set the app and wifi up. I am kinda mechanically inclined. I was the kid that set everyone's' VCR time and How To program your VCR when I was a kid.
Thanks for Watching and your kind Words!!!! How do you like it so far?
Can you make some new update soon about this weather station?
I have it and it is still working great. I have only had to clean out the rain gauge a couple times.
Great review,, well done
Thank you kindly!
I am in India
Wow🔥super
Amazing work
Thanks so much
@@JustADad you cab support me
How high is your weather station on that pole? Thinking about getting one for my father and mounting it on a deck post. Probably total of 10-12 feet off ground
yeah mine is about 10ft, that should be good, you have to get to it once in a while.
can we see a video on how the weather station connects to your phone? Thank you
Great Idea I will work on that. Thanks for watching and the Idea!!
is the ws still working?
Yes looking at it right now
You rain probably isn't accurate. It usually reads 10 to 17 % too much, but did you know you can calibrate it through the display? Also the newer model 2902C comes with a separate thermo/hygro sensor that you place over somewhere in the shade for more accurate readings!
Yeah its not in the best place
Just got one of these to keep track of the temp in the vineyard, don’t know how to set up the alarm to go off at a certain temperature I want it too
Thanks for Watching let me look into that.
Yes please thank you!
Great review.
What about forecast?
Does it tell you any for the next day, 3 days, week? Any forecast?
Thanks
No forecast Just current readings
@@JustADad thanks for the reply. I think on the model C it gives up to 48hrs forecast. But I might be wrong
Hello, does this record the data too?
Thank you for your informative video. I am looking at this particular device to purchase. I'm concerned about the tree in front of my house causing interference on wind speed. My wife wouldn't be happy if I cut it down so I won't go there, lol. I notice that you have a lot of trees on your land. Does it cause any problem of wind speed/direction accuracy from any particular direction? Thanks.
Yes I don't really get an accurate wind speed. wind direction is good. the speed it close enough for me, I love this unit and it is still working to this day
@@JustADad Thank you. I think I'm gonna get it.
Does this have to be hooked up to WiFi for it to work?
No just if you want to be able to see the weather on your phone or computer. It sets up its own network to talk to the outdoor sensor.
Does it require WiFi to function? We are off the grid but need some kind of weathering system.
No it does not require wifi. Only if you want to let the whole world see what temperature it is at your house or if you want to be able to see what the temperature is at your house if you are away and you use your smart phone. This will work great without wifi. Thanks for Watching and This unit has been really good, No problems other than spider webs on wind vane or leaves in the rain cup. Thanks For Watching!!!
@@JustADad maybe try putting some window screen over the rain gauge to keep leaves and maybe spiders out
I just bought one for $50 that is 2 years old about. How much longer u think it will last??
Mine is almost 3 years old and I don't see any signs that it is going bad. I still have the same batteries that came with it outside. This is well made and it should last. I just had to clean my rain gauge out because of spiders but other than that it has worked great.
@@JustADad When I bought mine, It was a little discolored from the sun and the rain cup had algae in it but I washed out with the hose and it works fine! I’m hoping I can get a few more years out of it!
@@longislandebooks I bet you will
whats the radio frequency from the station to the console
I will look, but I don't remember seeing that.
I cannot get the forecast feature to work
Sorry about that, is it connected to the internet?
@@JustADad It says it is, and the forecast shows details on my laptop.
Wouldn't last 5 Min in Australia, I can see the plastic has turned yellow from the UV, the UV in Australia is very brutal on anything plastic outdoors
Wow the sun really shines that much wow. yeah this is pretty cheap plastic but seems to do fine here in central USA. I guess this makes me appreciate where i live even more. We get to experience all 4 seasons. COLD, Hot, Spring, Fall. I bet you have to use hot pads to touch your steering wheel if you car sit out also. Thanks for sharing your story from Australia!!! I love to hear where everyone is from!!!
@@JustADad I have one in Australia, its fine
I have enjoyed my 2902A for about 2-1/2 years outside of two developments: 1) at the one-year mark, the rain assembly failed and had to be replaced, and 2) last week, the Temperature - Humidity sensor failed and cannot be replaced, requiring the entire array to be purchased for >$100. Reviewing scores of reviews only, an impressive number of reviews reports their 2902A failed at approximately 2-1/2 years. Like the great majority of these reviewers, I believe this lifespan is unacceptable, especially for a weather station in a temperate mid-Atlantic climate. Not certain if I will be continuing with ambient weather's product line, since spending ~$80 a year for parts and sensory array replacement is surely not a high-value proposition.
Thanks for Watching and those are some good points. Do you have another brand you recommend
