  • Here's an overview of the Ambient Weather WS-2902C personal weather station. This station features pretty much all the common instruments you'll find in a quality PWS for a great price. The indoor console has a lot of features, including the ability to send weather data to sites such as Weather Underground. With this station, I'll be contributing to the growing PWS community, and I'll also be able to provide detailed weather information links in the description of future weather videos.

    Here's how to calibrate the relative pressure for your location: ua-cam.com/video/jyEz4l_4bKc/v-deo.html
    Before anyone asks, "watts per meter squared" is the same as "watts per square meter".

    I get my 2902C Ambient on Friday Dec 3rd. As for batteries I downloaded the user manual and states they do not recommend the rechargeable batteries. But I will be using the lithium batteries in the sensor. As well with the rain gauge you said it has some kind of coiled spring to eliminate debris getting inside. My last weather station was a Oregon Scientific. It had screen which fitted at the opening of the cup. So I will fashion some kind of other. Good video, thanks.

    How long did it take yours to accurately forecast???

    I understand that the 2902 works with Amazon Alexa. Are you able to ask Alexa for the outdoor temperature without it giving a long winded recitation of all of its readings? Sometimes, I just want to know the temperature and nothing else. If the answer is yes, I will buy one.

      I absolutely do not use Alexa or any personal assistants, so I could not tell you an answer on that.

      It does work with Alexis along with Google assistant

    How does the temperature do in the direct sun? I have an accurite and it's as much as 10 degrees higher in the summer than the actual temperature in the direct sun.

      temperature typically is supposed to be measured in the shade.

      @@cwood7240 How do you do that when this has the rain bucket built in. Can't be under trees.

    I'm not a super handy person, but my question is this. How do you install it? Can I get a pole to put it on and a post hole diggerr? If you put the unit on top how do you know its going to be level when you install the pole? Is that where the other level comes in? I know this probably sounds silly to some, but I literally have no clue.

    • @cubecompmtdx
      @cubecompmtdx  2 роки тому

      It comes with the needed hardware to mount it to a pole. The pole and other hardware used to mount the pole came from Lowe's. The unit has its own level built in, but when you can't see it, a regular level can be used to level out the pole.

    Do you need s different attachment to get the forecast on the screen have everything but that always just the sun

    • @cubecompmtdx
      @cubecompmtdx  2 роки тому +1

      It generates a forecast based off the barometric pressure. Not the most accurate.

    Why does mine predict sun when it’s raining outside? Anyone else have that problem?

    The rain gauge on these under reports. The wind direction arrow on the display is backwards.

    • @cubecompmtdx
      @cubecompmtdx  3 роки тому +2

      Mine reports rain pretty accurately when compared to two nearby WeatherFlow Tempest weather stations. Same goes for wind direction. If the sensor array is not leveled properly, your rain readings will be off. If the array is pointing the wrong direction (pointing S instead of N) your went direction readings will be backwards. Remember, wind direction is the direction the wind is *coming from* and not the direction it is blowing. If you have south winds, it means the wind is blowing from the south toward the north.

      I downloaded a compass app onto my phone and used my phone to direct the unit north. The side with the rain gauge faces north.

      Mine's still in service. I haven't even changed the batteries in the outside unit. It's been in service for over 3 years now.

    Hello lightning strike! You had better ground that damn thing pretty fast. Or you're going to see what lightning will do to your deck.

    • @boognish593
      @boognish593 2 роки тому +2

      It's a myth that metal rods attract lightening. At the voltage of lightening EVERYTHING is a great conductor no matter the material. It has more to do with height relative to other objects, It's proximity to other objects, shape, etc. Even if it were grounded....lightening does what it wants and flows to ground the way it wants. If it struck close enough to hit the pole....it's going to hit the house. The deck would be smoked either way. Counting on a tiny ground round/wire to direct that much energy to ground would be like thinking a sheet of card board will protect you from a hand grenade 1 foot in front of you.

    I have enjoyed my 2902A for about 2-1/2 years outside of two developments: 1) at the one-year mark, the rain assembly failed and had to be replaced, and 2) last week, the Temperature - Humidity sensor failed and cannot be replaced, requiring the entire array to be purchased for >$100. Reviewing scores of reviews only, an impressive number of reviews reports their 2902A failed at approximately 2-1/2 years. Like the great majority of these reviewers, I believe this lifespan is unacceptable, especially for a weather station in a temperate mid-Atlantic climate. Not certain if I will be continuing with ambient weather's product line, since spending ~$80 a year for parts and sensory array replacement is surely not a high-value proposition.
