I never had any success with getting the app to work but I didn't really care. Display is beside my coffee maker so that is the only chance I have to stop and look anyway😂
Back on August 16th 2021 when Topical Storm Fred made landfall, I recorded over 19 inches of rain in less than 12 hours with my WS2000. It was very close to matching my rain gauge. We got some heavy winds which I suspect may have caused a slightly lower that actual amount captured.
I have had several weather stations over the years but got tired of replacing them every 6 months to a year/Cheep Junk/Walmart and so i started doing my research and stumbled across ambient weather & i ended up Buying the ambient Weather ws 2902C last year & so far its ben really handy to have & works flawlessly Really glad i bought it i just wish i had bought it a lot sooner !
It depends on climate, but my WS-1400-IP is about to turn 8 years old in September and is still going strong! $150 in 2015. I have a 2902 (3.5yrs old), 5000 (2.5yrs), and Davis VP2 (3.5yrs) as well. The 5000 is actually my favorite. Absolutely love the 2902 though, I recommend it to everyone looking for a pws under $300. Enjoy! Personally I expect at least 4-5 years from my budget stations. But the beauty of the 2902/2000 is almost every part is replaceable individually, so if the thermo/hygro wears out (probably most common issue) you don’t have to replace the whole thing. I’m sure you are aware, but years ago Davis was really the only mainstream pws company who offered such a design

Awesome!!!!! You know a camera would be awesome on the pole. When storms move through you could add them on the end end of a video or do w storm video...or capture cool things that walk through by the house..
I'm thinking about upgrading my current hobbled-together station to the Falcon WS-8480 series...it has a fan inside to help keep it cooler in our hot climate down here.
I bought a 1.5" EMT like you suggested. Did you have to flip the bracket, that the U bolts attach to, around where the arch is facing away from the pole? There wasn't room and that's the only way mine would work, which made it difficult to tighten the nuts now flush against the L side and also harder to get it level on the pole...the harder I tightened it, the more it became crooked.
Some things of note, I have WS2910 which is very similar to the WS2902 it was my first one that lasted for many many years (I would guess be around 6 years) until the outdoor stopped sending the temperature. I ended up getting a WS2000 model. I found the outdoor unit will happily send details to both screens. So now i'm currently using 2 screens. I much prefer the WS2000 screen. As well as much more information on the screen, it is completely configurable from the screen, as well as from mobile app. The WS2910 I had to use mobile app to make changes. Something you mention in the video was the sunrise and sunset, that's on the screen, as well as quick min and max temps (without pressing buttons) plus the ability to add lots of other sensors (lightning, multiple air quality, multiple temp/humidity, multiple water leak). The unit itself will also keep history on it (if you put a SD card in. If I remember right, its roughly 1 year history per GB). Regarding the installation on the pole, I got mine level from the bubble on it, and I found level pole did not make level bubble. I did however only have a 1 inch pole that was mounted on the roof of my house. So maybe less issue with larger diameter poles.
You can add up to 7 or 8 sensors on the 2902 as well. The only one it's not compatible with that the 2000 takes is the lightning sensor. I think both are great units. I use the app enough that I couldn't justify the screen upgrade of the ws2000.
Great video, thanks! Does this unit offer the option to insert an SD card to record and extract data within the unit in case you don't have a connection to the display unit or Wi-Fi initially?
Lol and people keep getting upset when I don't respond to emails 🤣. Between hundreds of emails, comments and direct messages a day it's impossible to keep up.
LOVE my AW products. My 1400 is 8 years old and going strong! My climate is a bit more forgiving than some though, very wet winters but not a ton of humidity outside of winter. No salty air lol. Highly recommend the 2902, 2000 (this is a 2902 but the display is better), or the 5000 (no experience with anything cheaper than the 2902 so I won’t comment).
I went with an Ecowitt model without moving parts but I plan to add some additional sensors. I wanted one that worked with home assistant. For example I want to try a wind turbine so I need to put a wind sensor in various places to see where a turbine would fit best.
I’ve been using the 2092 for about three years now and I just purchased the 2000 yesterday. My biggest reason was because I do not like the display screen that I currently have. The 2902 also doesn’t let you add any sensors but the 2000 lets you add a ton of different sensors. I purchased the lightning sensor for mine and I’m just waiting for it all to get shipped. 2092 was fantastic but I just don’t like that you have to cycle through all of the fields to see individual data for example, if I want to see how much rain I got during a current rainstorm, but also how hard it’s raining I have to click through the fields. We also just went through a tropical storm and I loved the data!
I finally gave up on my AcuRite station. My first AcuRite was great for years. Moved up to an Atlas last year and even got the remote power supply to save going up on the roof to change batteries it would keep loosing signal every few days. No help from AcuRite so I have moved on.
Thanks very much for a great video review as it really has helped me make a call on what to buy. You mentioned briefly about possibly being able to download the data as a CSV file for manipulating my own data. Is this possible with this Ambient Weather WS2902C station?
Two big negatives: No option to mount directly without the pole. With the temperature sensor situated internally within the station, readings will be highly inaccurate when in direct sunlight.
Actually, they won’t. That tiered device at the bottom of the main sensor array is a solar radiation shield. These PWS devices are meant to be mounted in direct sunlight for the most accurate readings.
These units typically run off solar power and use batteries for night/cloudy weather. They do not recharge batteries. Allegedly the ultimate lithium batteries last 2 to 3 years.
Some devices have trouble connecting to dual band access points/routers. Try turning off the 5 GHz band and see if that lets you connect. If so, you should be able to enable the 5ghz band after the connection is established.
@@speedlever thank you for the reply. I have tried that along with other tips and tricks I've seen around the internet and nothing is working. Eventually I think I'm going to go to a different weather station.
Nice video. Been searching online for reviews on weather stations, best Vid by far👍🏻. Curious though, living in Northern climate how does Station handle snowfall?
Andrew, did you look at the WeatherFlow Tempest? If you did, what were your thoughts, as it does a good deal, with sophisticated technology rather than physical movement.
I did, the big turn off for me was lack of display. Even thought I praise the apps, I do like a screen on my desk for quick reference. That was a highly suggested model.
I strongly considered the Tempest too, but the lack of a console and having a non user replaceable battery turned me off. I believe the solar panel on the Tempest does charge the internal battery, unlike the Ambient, but if the battery fails the whole device fails.
I bought the 2900 series, wish I had gotten the 2000 or even the 5000 series. My main reason for wanting either of these is expand-ability. I can't add the lightning detector, soil moisture sensors or pollution sensors to the 2900 series, but would be able to add them to the others. My rain gauge was WAY off as-shipped. It was only recording about 2/3 of what my manual gauges collected.
Interesting, my gauge is within a tenth of my manual gauge. I personally think the lightning detection is a waste, your phone is usually on you. That's where I want my lightning alerts.
Thank you for this video. I am kinda skeptical on how well the batteries are holding up on the sensors. If you mount that on a roof, let's say, it would not be very convenient to change cells every few months. Are they recharging with the solar?
No recharging, the solar cells are to provide power during the day. Batteries are for night and sunless days. The solar cells do not provide recharging capability. It is said to expect 2 to 3 years service life from ultimate lithium batteries.
I like that. It's really a lot nicer and more comprehensive than I expected. I can envision one in my future. Nice job reviewing too, Andrew. Now I'm curious, can the data be logged locally without any apps or network connections?
Yes I believe all sensors but the lightning sensor can be added. I know for a fact additional temperature monitoring can be had. The link in this video description is my Amazon affiliate link. Thanks!
Great video! I just ordered the WS 2000 model with the better screen and really excited for it to come. How do you like the station now that you owned it for a little while?
haaaaaaaa. Funny this video is one year old. The Mrs and I just got one of these models here in Livermore, Ca. What's your one year update with the unit, especially with the weather you all have had?
I've had the same station for 2 years. But I would like to go further, do you know of any program for Windows that allows you to view station data and configuration in real time? Thanks.
Thanks Andrew. The only thing I do not trust on these units is the Temperature. being out in the Sun will show a Higher Temp My Temp Sensor is in the Shade near the North side of the house. Mike M.
Late reply, but for the sake of those reading now, these are meant to be mounted in direct sunlight. The solar radiation shield on the bottom of the main sensor array protects from solar gain.
Oddly enough in a major hurricane last year we only got to 67 MPH. I am wondering if the trees all around blocked the wind and reading. The storm had extremely high winds.

Other reviews seem to confirm the rain gauge system is iffy at best in terms of accuracy, especially in heavy rain. The barometer's accuracy has been called into question as well (compared to higher priced systems). I think anything below a $200 price point is going to be a compromise in this regard, and not a huge issue for most people. Coming from an engineering background, however, I personally can't indulge any kind of measurement instrument that isn't 100 percent accurate at all times. I understand this is just hobby for most people using this particular station, but even as a hobby you're not ultimately getting accurate results and therefore inaccurate weather reporting, which kind of defeats the purpose. The Davis Instruments weather stations are about three times more expensive, but put out professional level readings at all times. I'd rather spend the extra money and live in the real world. ;)
Partially disagree with you on the rain. I have two manual gauges under this one and I check them all everytime it rains. Light to moderate rains they are always dead on. Extremely heavy rains only slight disagreement. For example we got over 4 inches in a single hour last week. After all rain was complete, my manual gauge showed 5.1 inches and my weather station showed 4.79. That's as far apart as I've ever seen them, but it was blowing sideways and flooding.
during the daylight hours it can run off the small solar panel since it doesn't consume very much power at all. During the night though it does run off the batteries. I've had my WS-2000 setup for around 2.5yrs now with the initial batteries still installed, if it was running solely off the batteries it would have needed a new set after 6mo or so.
Nothing like 8 minutes of the same shot. WAY too long of an introductions. Could have said "after a long search and a little research, I decided to purchase this particular weather station." You also could skip the "I love weather" BS because I don't think people would invest in something if they didn't "love" what they are measuring. How about CLOSE UPS of what you're doing so we can SEE what you're talking about? And if something is "hard to see," make it EASY to see especially when it's something crucial as the actual mount of the device. Couldn't take any more than 8 1/2 minutes.
Got a better idea, how about you find a different channel that gives you the type of content and recording you desire instead of insisting someone else make content specifically for you.

Can additional sensors be added to the WS 2902? I'm looking to monitor multiple rooms in my home. Do you have affiliate links for these accessories?
Yes I believe all sensors but the lightning sensor can be added. I know for a fact additional temperature monitoring can be had. The link in this video description is my Amazon affiliate link. Thanks!
What is the purpose of drilling holes in the EMT Tube?
To bolt it to the post
Does the EMT conduit bend with the wind?
No and we went though a major hurricane last year.
What's the max wind speed it can handle ?
It's either 100 or 112mph, can't remember because I've looked at so many. I wish it was higher since I'm in a hurricane state.
The WS2902 max wind speed is 100 mph
@TKCL Davis vantage vue is supposed to go up to 150 mph.......but it cost more
@TKCL Davis vantage vue is supposed to go up to 150 mph.......but it cost more
Yeah that's the range I'd love to be in. Although I hope to never max mine out at 100 mph 😬
What does the wind factor setting do if you change it from 1.0 to .5?
I haven't messed with that.
@@TKCL are you also supposed to take the rubber out of the rain gauge to put the funnel in? Mine arrived today, it only took 2 days!
I honestly don't remember a plug being in my rain gauge, it needs to be an open hole.
Thx for sharing this. Which app do you use? Awnet app is brutal!
My radar on my phone. The Ambient network for the weather station.
Does it cost money / monthly fee to have this weather station on Weather Underground or on the Ambient Weather App?
Nope! There is a paid version of AWN, but it isn't required.
Great video! I just ordered the WS 2000 model with the better screen and really excited for it to come. How do you like the station now that you owned it for a little while?
Zero issues and I really enjoy the website/app.
What app do you use for lightning stokes?
My radar
haaaaaaaa. Funny this video is one year old. The Mrs and I just got one of these models here in Livermore, Ca. What's your one year update with the unit, especially with the weather you all have had?
Zero issues after all the hurricanes, heat and rain.
I've had the same station for 2 years. But I would like to go further, do you know of any program for Windows that allows you to view station data and configuration in real time?
Thanks.
I sure don't, sorry.
What does it do in a tornado or bad weather does it give warnings
You need a phone with location on for those kind of alerts. All this can do is alert you for settings you place.
Thanks Andrew.
The only thing I do not trust on these units is the Temperature. being out in the Sun will show a Higher Temp
My Temp Sensor is in the Shade near the North side of the house.
Mike M.
I can see that.
Late reply, but for the sake of those reading now, these are meant to be mounted in direct sunlight. The solar radiation shield on the bottom of the main sensor array protects from solar gain.
What is the max wind gust you ever recorded on this station? how was it like? just curious.
Oddly enough in a major hurricane last year we only got to 67 MPH. I am wondering if the trees all around blocked the wind and reading. The storm had extremely high winds.
@@TKCLin my opinion i feel like your station is pretty open. suprised it didnt read higher.
@@TKCL i also have the same weather station for over 9 months now and i like it alot. my max gust was 36.5 mph during a thunderstorm last summer.
mine is out for delivery as i type this. is your model the 'c' or 'd' version? are there any significant differences? tks, /guy
I got the C, not aware of the differences.
@@TKCL i found it later--it says the 'd' has easier setup. and it was fairly straightt forward as this replaced a netatmo and wunderground went easily enough but pws didn't like me trying to delete my old system and then name this one the same.
one thing i find confusing is that i set up the console display and found out the web page doesn't 'see' those settings. so essentially you have to set things up twice and those light touch buttons on the console drive me crazy--there's no way to hold it. but at least you don't have to mess with the console much.
i still have to find a way to mount it outside. right now it's on my porch railing way too close to the house. /guy
i'm ashamed to admit i did have to call them to find out how to remove the battery cover. :) pictures just don't do it for me and if i broke it i'd have been way bad off.
I found online set up aggravating.... Until I realized logging out and back in had everything saved and set up for me.
dope video bro i got one as well
Love mine!
Can you add PM2.5 to the inside display?
I do not know, you'd have to ask the manufacturer.
i got one as well
You should get in touch with white house on the hill and see how they blew up like they did and invite them on your channel
First! I finally did it! Lol!
I sure hate to say Cash got you 😬😬😬
🫣🫣🫣 sorry Mr Doug...... That's it you are first 🥇🏆... Congratulations 👏🎉 Mr Doug
@@TKCL nope Andrew I don't think 🧐🤔 that's correct.. look again my friend .
@cash5150 lol, it's the small things in life Cash! Lol!
@@dougdavis4439 very true Mr Doug. But if you look you are first today 🤘🏽
Do u have to have to use wifi Or can you use it as is
You do not and I meant to mention there is an exact version of this without wifi for about $50 cheaper.
Not first...... 🤷🏽♂️ Oh well I snooze I lose 😉😉
Great job!,
Amazing functionality especially when you consider
At least the pre configured guest network has the MOST BASIC of security settings enabled too help keep those $5 smart plugs and everything else that talks too a server in China 24x7 from seeing your cell phone on wifi, potentially even your logins and passwords too your bank accounts and everything else. The thing is your phone/computer does not talk directly to these devices locally rather it -The device and you - thru the app or web site are connected to a server run by the same company that made 10 million of these cheap unsecured devices that can be running 'malware' inside with complete access to the same LAN in your home as your computer that you do everything on.
☆☆ Placing these devices on the Guest Network is the BARE MINIMUM everyone should ALREADY be doing! ☆☆
Sorry for the rant but all of these incredibly inexpensive devices that we have all happily placed all over our homes are all made by/ controlled by/ constantly communicating with, the very same place threatening the USA with 8000 MPH missiles that can sink an aircraft carrier in ONE SHOT
ua-cam.com/video/hYbSFSOErSo/v-deo.html
All they have to do too cripple our internet communications is flip a switch, this is not a tin foil hat theory...
The sick part is this is EXACTLY WHY the DOD invented the internet in the FIRST PLACE!
ua-cam.com/video/Cut3D2JkcrQ/v-deo.html
Make sure the firmware on your Routers are up too date if owned - or have the carrier come out for free and swap your rented equipment if over ~2 years old.
Business and professionals require a physical or virtual firewall be placed between the LAN and WAN. Only personal responsibility will protect you, ignorance is bliss.
Good points, I've also kept mine private for obvious reasons.
I can’t seem to connect mine to WiFi
Mine was impossible to connect until I logged out and restarted my wifi router and computer. Logged back in and everything was working.
I just bought a WS 1965
I meant to bring that model up as well. They have a lot of options.

Hehehe “these nuts” right here 5:05
🤦
ive been running ambient for years. im on array 3. it wont connect to my 5g internet now. sucks.
Most devices like this require 2.4ghz connections, your router should have an option for setting up an extra network on that setting.
i have it set to dual band. set to 2.4 only? @@TKCL
I was expecting how did you connect with WIFI , as I am facing problem to connect with network. But you did not share anything about this
I had to exit the web browser and log back in before I could get it to setup correctly.
@@TKCL I am trying for a week. No use, first time it connected without any password. But when i am trying to connect it demands password to connect with console(not enter into setting with IP address)
@@aponraj1disable the 5 GHz band on your router and see if that allows you to connect. Once connected, enable the 5g band again.
Let's hope you don't need your weather station in any serious storms!
I'm sure it's going to see a few.
I got same model in April 2021 n this past weekend the outdoor temperature stopped working. Contacted AW support on Sunday n am still waiting on a response...Best wx station on the market, worst customer support ever
Oh no, hope they take care of it.
👍👍
Seem cool but not sure why it says solar powered but also requires normal non rechargable batteries.
Not solar powered, that's a solar receiving unit for radiation and other measurements.
@@TKCL OK that makes sense but the amazon description says "Power Source Solar Powered"
so it was a little confusing but that's on them not you.
Hmmmmmm..... They do make a external battery box, maybe that's it? 🤔
during the daylight hours it can run off the small solar panel since it doesn't consume very much power at all. During the night though it does run off the batteries. I've had my WS-2000 setup for around 2.5yrs now with the initial batteries still installed, if it was running solely off the batteries it would have needed a new set after 6mo or so.
@@atanisoftware ok now that makes even more sense
I don't know how you keep all these apps together but it must have something to do with your big head cuz the brain inside it must be enormous 👍😁🙏❤️

Can't always trust the lighting app on a phone
Or any electronic for that matter.

Just a heads up…their tech support is abysmal to the point of non-existent.
I hope I don't need it
Nothing like 8 minutes of the same shot.
