    In this video, we show you how to change the oil and oil-filter in the new 2021 KTM 500 EXC-F bikes. Hint, there are three oil drain plugs and a trick to pre-filling the oil filter chamber.
    While the overall process is pretty similar to most dirt bikes, finding all three drain plugs was new for us with this bike. We also learned a handy trick to help keep oil on the top end for the first start after the oil change.

    Oil filter bolts are 10nm, side oil screen bolt is 15nm, side magnet bolt is 20nm and bottom screen bolt is 15nm. Like you said very low torque specs! Nice vid! 🤙🏻

      I barely tighten mine at all, because every single time they get SOOOOO tight I'm afraid of stripping something trying to remove them.

    And please tell me what that is on your ignition side cover?? And also for those who don’t have torx bits that’s just an 8mm on the filter cover... and I know what the manual says... but I just crank the engine over twice for 10 sec with the kill switch off and that primes the oil filter with out tipping it over and filling it

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  3 роки тому

      I've got the Acerbis engine guards on this bike. As for priming with the ignition, I would def not do that as I don't see that getting much oil into the top end. But to each their own.

      @@ExtremeSportsWannaBes I see where your going with this ...try this .. I did... do it how the book says ...put the filter in wait 30 sec... pull the filter out with the bike on the side and see how much oil is soaked in the filter and not in the housing.... then try it my way... pull the filter cover off and you will see the filter housing is full... but hey if your happy with they way you have been doing it ... rock out

    The "drain" bolt under the engine case is not a "drain" bolt. It holds a ball bearing or some such thing for pressure equalization in the engine case. Don't remove that bolt. It is not intended to be removed during oil change. Please consult your KTM manual.

      I disagree.

      You are talking about a different bolt. The one he removed in the video is required to be removed as per the KTM manual for an oil change.

    I cant take out the short oil screen and the head of the screw is stripped. How important is ti clean that ? I changed the oil, cleaned the long screen and changed the filter.

      Hi. If you mean you haven't had the bottom sump bolt out then I don't see how you've changed the oil as it drains from that ( lowest) point. The screens are necessary. A new sump bolt is under $10 and the old one will come out if you carefully drill it and use a reverse thread stud puller to unscrew it

      @@Bikesbikesbikes500 I removed the oil drain plug with the magnet on it that collects debries that was next to the long screen on the side. On the bottom there is a short oil screen that I couldn't remove.

      @@krissimon2502 not ideal mate. Either carefully drill and then unscrew the bottom bolt or if that's outside your comfort zone id get it done by a mechanic. It's a 5 minute job and not doing it could result in a MUCH more expensive one. Good luck

      Engine hours lag actual trail time. But in any case, an oil change takes 20 mins. I do mine every 15 to 20 cause I'm busy.
