    Same process on my 2020 Husky FE501s, after the oil is drained I lay mine on it’s side and do the rest that way and it makes PRE filling the filter area super easy!
    Great video, great looking bike! Enjoy!

    Great video! I’m at this stage with my new ktm and appreciate this video. Take a 5 gallon bucket and cut down the height to where it fits just under the frame. Cut a U shaped slot for your hand to finished removing bolt by hand. I always made a mess with oil drain pans on the ground. No more with my handy dandy 5 gallon bucket.

    I use an oil filter removal tool it has a sharp end you pierce the filter end with then a self tapping screw goes into the hole. You thread it into the filter and slide it out

    Use some folded paper or cardboard as a funnel for the old oil to the drain pan. Nothing complicated, just fold, jam, drain. Keeps everything much cleaner.

    I have a question and I was hoping you could answer it for me. I just bought a 2020 ktm 500 exc-f and like the stock hand guards but I want to purchase the metal wrap around that fit the stock ktm hand guards. Do you know which ones I would need to purchase? I have fastway on my ktm 250xcf-w but wanted to keep the stock ones on my 500.

    I do enjoy your dry humor and your videos, but will offer one comment here. It is important to fill your oil filter. KTM suggests lying the bike on its side, as you later edited in, but say you don't do. An alternative many of us do is to fill the oil filter with oil before inserting it. The paper will appear wet, but it doesn't leak through without pressure. Not doing one of these techniques will result in there being no oil in the moving parts for some not insignificant number of seconds until the oil makes its way through the filter.

  • @Papparratzi
    @Papparratzi 18 днів тому

    Filling the oil filter cavity and soaking the oil filter is crucial for upper valve train lubrication. It takes quite a few seconds to get oil to the top end if you don’t pre-oil them. You’re better off not changing the filter if you’re going to do it that way.

    Who knows if you are supposed to check engine oil when the bike is hot or cold!?
    When it's cold it does not show up in the glass but when you warm it up then turn it off and check the oil it's right in the middle! So the oil expands when it gets hot.

    GREAT video. Your content has definitely impacted my decision making and bank account. As of Saturday, I am the owner of a 2021 KTM 500 EXC-F!!!! I am getting ready to do my first service. What are your recommendations or thoughts on using a crummy oil for the first change and then switch to synthetic? I have owned a 690 before and always used Motorex from the start but have heard that the 500's need to break in differently and there should be an additional 30mi break in before synthetic?

    • @mikeschlup5279
      @mikeschlup5279 4 роки тому +1

      And to make more confusing, a lot of the full synthetic stuff is hydro cracked GRP 3 base oil...just petroleum with more refinement. It is better..but still will not match a true synthetic, everything else being equal.

      Axell Hernandez I’ve riden the Honda. What are you looking to do? The Honda is a better road bike slightly. Has a nicer dash and more comfortable. It is all heavier and weaker. If you mainly do dirt and light road i would go KTM all day. But if yuh are doing more road and want more comfort with more weight then the Honda may be for you. Maybe you could road test them at your dealer. I’m sure you will feel the difference.

      Haven't ridden the KTM's but we have two 450L's and they are the smoothest dirtbike I've ridden on the street. Past experience cruising an XR400, XR650, and ancient XR500. To be fair we have Vortex ECU and Yoshi pipe and we are running nitro mousse's but on full knobbies. Simply put, there are no unpleasant vibrations through the pegs or bars doesn't matter the speed or RPM. My fear of tire squirm above 60mph gives out way before any other feedback from the bike.

    30 mile service! That's not even a tank of fuel worth of riding. Honestly that's absurd.
    Great channel, but KTM needs to get with the program. I 100% know for sure they would sell a lot more bikes if they had better mantaince schedules
    I agree when you get a new bike change the oil sooner then they say, i do the same thing but with that bike the next mantaince schedule is in the next 100 miles or less i bet. That's the crazy part.
    Wow that oil screen is filthy! That would make me nervous.
