Also worth noting that if you are doing the 1st oil change, it is quite normal to find visible chunks of metal on the magnet and screens. As the bike goes through the 1st few oil changes, you should see visible metal particles reducing as engine is wearing in.
Rocky I would crack open the oil plug to create a faster oil dump before opening the 13mm nuts. Also, change those gloves constantly before handling the filters going back in. -Gladis Kravits your nieghbor
Nice job bud... great to know the torque values too. My fe 501 has been laid up for 2 years now.... will be dusting her off soon and this will be the first job before taking her out again. Thumbs up and a sub 🙂😎
Just changed the oil on mine, didn’t know I had to lay it on it’s side! I didn’t fill the filter with oil but I still filled the bike with 1.3 liters... am I low on oil now?
Well I busted out the tq wrench and set it to 11.1 foot lbs and there is no way that’s tight enough. I understand it’s all aluminum and you can’t get carried away but as much as these things vibrate they would be falling out.
Dumb question here.... But can somebody tell me what's the function of the allen head bolt beside the short screen plug ? And why we should not remove it ?
I have a brand new 2019 fe 501 with 2 hours on the motor and the check engine light came on. Is that normal as a reminder to change to motor oil after the first ride?
I'm not sure if it's still a problem for the '19's but I know some of the KTM/Husky's had ECU problems that would cause that but it's hard to say. Since it's so new I would definitely recommend calling the dealer you got it from and seeing if they know what's going on. In the mean time, I'd even go over all your grounds and check that they're secure. Sorry that doesn't help much but be sure to let us know hat you find out!
Hey Erick What kind of tires you recommend for the 501???? I honestly hate the stock ones lol, I m more like 90 /10 (dirt/road) Thank you and as always Great video man!!!
Wait ! They call this a dual sport bike? Change the oil every 15 hours ! ! ! So take this bike on a 3500 mile road trip and change the oil three times !!! So be sure to pack the oil and filters along with your sleeping bags and food ... I am impressed with the performance of the bikes and now I know why they are hi performance. HIGH MAINTENANCE !

i followed this pretty much to the T's .. the kit i got from you guys was very complete! Thanks for all the advices and all.
Glad the video was helpful! Thanks for the support.
Now this is how an oil change's supposed to be done, torque specs, proper cleaning thumbs up.
Thanks *Automatic Cool!*

Do not forget to slightly lube the oil filter seal before you push it into the place through 2" of oil! :)
good job, everyone always forgets about the Husky's!
Thanks for the video...gotta do that soon to my 2017 501 Husky. Laying the bike down seems a bit extreme...
Even when the manual states to do this, you still think it's extreme?
its a dirt bike.....it will be on its side eventually anyways

Did he clean that orange oil filter or put a new one?
That was perfect 😊
Thank you - very good

Nice video. Thinking about getting one of these.
Do it
6:17. Why oil the filter when you are submerging it IN oil?
Great video thanks!

Mine was recommended change first 2 to 3 hours then 15 hour intervals
You’re killing my knees on that tile.

cristian yankofsky I’ve been running Bridgestone battle cross 40’s bad ass tire, wears like iron and feels awesome
Basically the same for a 2019? Same filter sizes and all?
Thanks mate 👍
At 4:29 which way does he turn the bolt? Does he turn it clockwise or counterclockwise?
He is removing the bolt at 4:29 so that would be counterclockwise/left.
I don't lay down the bike, I fill that hole inside the filter with oil and put it back. It does the trick.
That may be just fine; but a note to anyone else reading: the official husqvarna owners manual calls for laying it on it's side and 1/3 filled.
Do you still need to change the oil so often if you only ride on the streets and not hard?
Not as much. They say up to 35 hr intervals if doing more adventure riding.
1.5 quarts per owner’s manual
The additional 0.3L was added in the oil filter housing, I figure.
Don't they make a tool to pull those filters out just wandering...
Not that we have seen. Most people have a set of needle nose pliers or snap ring pliers. They do the job.
so how many miles?
The service manual will give specifics for how often the oil should be changed. They will give a specific amount of hours before very change.
Easy peasy.. Now if I only had about 12k to spend.. lol
Is it me or the color scheme for 2017 was much better?
I’ve been asking myself that same question.
Its just you. //- 18 rider 😁
every 15 hours ? that woud be like every 2 ot 3 days on a road trip. Is that real ?
That's what Husqvarna recommends in the service manual!
@@rmatvmc wauw...that is not very convenient.

You don’t pronounce the name right 😂
Husk Varna not Husky Varna
Intuition may be a lost hope in today's society.
In Sweden it's pronounced Hus Kvarna :)
Per-Eric Haraldsson I pretty sure that’s how I say it ... Norther California
I hear Huska varna a lot.
